• What good technology podcasts are out there?

  Yes, Podcasts, those nice little Audiobooks I can listen to on the way to work. With the current amount of Podcasts, it's like searching a needle in a haystack, except that the haystack happens to be the Internet and is filled with too many of these "Hot new Gadgets" stuff :( Now, even though I am mainly a .NET developer nowadays, maybe anyone knows some good Podcasts from people regarding the whole software lifecycle? Unit Testing, Continous Integration, Documentation, Deployment... So - what are you guys and gals listening to? Please note that the categorizations are somewhat subjective and may not be 100% accurate as many podcasts cover several areas. Categorization is made against what is considered the "main" area. • Using Perl WWW::Facebook::API to Publish To Facebook Newsfeed

  We use Facebook Connect on our site in conjunction with the WWW::Facebook::API CPAN module to publish to our users newsfeed when requested by the user. So far we've been able to successfully update the user's status using the following code: use WWW::Facebook::API; my $facebook = WWW::Facebook::API->new( desktop => 0, api_key => $fb_api_key, secret => $fb_secret, session_key => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_session_key'), session_expires => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_expires'), session_uid => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_user') ); my $response = $facebook->stream->publish( message => qq|Test status message|, ); However, when we try to update the code above so we can publish newsfeed stories that include attachments and action links as specified in the Facebook API documentation for Stream.Publish, we have tried about 100 different ways without any success. • LinkBuilder.BuildUrlFromExpression not working anymore in .Net 4 / VS 2010 ?

  Hi, I recently migrating my ASP.Net MVC 1 application from VS.Net 2008 / C# 3.5 to VS.NET 2010 / C# 4.0. I massively used a builder to get URL strings from the strongly typed calls. It looks like this : // sample call : string toSamplePage = Url.To<SampleController>(c => c.Page(parameter1, parameter2)); the code is added as an extension to the default UrlHelper : public static string To<Tcontroller>(UrlHelper helper, Expression<Action<Tcontroller>> action) where Tcontroller : Controller { // based on Microsoft.Web.Mvc.dll LinkBuilder return LinkBuilder.BuildUrlFromExpression<Tcontroller>(helper.RequestContext, helper.RouteCollection, action); } The only problem of this, is the reference to Microsoft.Web.Mvc dll, but the gain in readability was worth it. Problem : it does not work anymore, return (null) whatever the parameters. Questions : is there a better way now to build links from an expression ? (yes I tried to google it without success) is there a trick to have the former LinkBuilder.BuildUrlFromExpression works ? I tried to recompile it into C# 4.0, but the problem is that it implies working on my own compilated version of System.Web.Mvc which is not an option. I'm currently trying to migrate to MVC 2 but I still have issues... Waiting for your suggestions...

• iPhone Inspiration Stories...

  So we have all heard of these overnight millionaires in the app store. We know it would be great, but somewhat unlikely to do ourselves. What I do know is, that learning and developing for the iPhone can sometimes be overwhelming. I continue to push on and learn more and more, even when my brain just cant take anymore I turn my mac on and read up on how to do new and different things I haven't done yet in my app yet. I would like to see a few post's of a common day developer's story and how their life has improved now that they are sitting up on the golden pedestal of an iphone developer. I look at these Dice.com jobs on think how nice it would be to be making that kind of money offered for an experienced iphone developer. Im on my way... and while I'm on that road i'd like to look over and see your story... Please include how you got into iPhone development and any apps you have out there and your success with them. • Issues integrating NCover with CC.NET, .NET framework 4.0 and MsTest

  I'm implementing continuous integration with CruiseControl.NET, .NET 4.0, NCover and MsTest. On the build server I'm unable to run code coverage from the Ncover explorer or NCover console. When I run where vstesthost.exe from the Ncover console it returns the Visual Studio 9.0 path and does not seem to pick up .net framework 4.0. I've followed instructions from this MSTest: Measuring Test Quality With NCover post with slight modifications for .net framework 4.0, without any success. • SignalR - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it?

  Trying to create a Console application that is going to send data to a website. The website is built with Codeiginter framework, if that matters. When i'm running my Console application, i get the error that a connection could not be made, and that the machine refused it. Been watching some tutorials, but most of them are using Hubs etc, which imo i do not need for this simple task?. All i want to do is to send data to the website, one way. • How can I discover zeroconf (Bonjour) services on Android? I'm having trouble with jmDNS.

  I'm working with a Droid / Android 2.0.1 and encountering an issue apparently many people have: I'm unable to discover services using the one pure-Java zeroconf library I know of, jmDNS. (Apple's Bonjour, while it works on Linux and Windows Java, I believe would be harder to port to Android because of reliance on native code.) I can create services, but not discover them. I'm trying to make sense of what's going on. There is an ongoing issue report here; related to multicast and IPv6, but seems to be throwing users of jmDNS, too: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2323 Any idea why this person might be having success? See comment 22 in the bug report. (I'm new to SO, so can't post more than one URL.) I have tested their code, but without any luck. Has anyone successfully accomplished zeroconf service discovery on Android, using jmDNS or another library? Is it possible my discovery issue is related to the IPv6 multicast problem?

  Background I use a Tornado-like server with support for long-polls. Each web pages a user clicks around to sets up a long poll to the server like this: $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: "/mylongpollurl/", dataType: 'application/json', success: function(json) { // I do stuff here }, error: function(xhr, errText, ex) { // If timeout I send a new long-poll request } }); Problem I will now rely on data that I get from Fiddler monitoring all requests made from my browser (FF at the moment). Page 1 is loaded and the long poll request is made, now idling at server side. I click a link to page 2 and that page is loaded and setting up a long poll request, BUT the long poll request from page 1 is still idling at server side (according to Fiddler). This means that I will stack all long poll calls when clicking around the page, thus end up with lots of active connections on the server (or are they maybe sharing connection?) My thoughts - As it's a Tornado-like server (using epoll) it can handle quite a lot of connections. But this fact is not to exploit in my opinion. What I mean is that I prefer not to have a timeout on the server for this case (were the client disappears). - I know those stand alone pages better uses a common head and only swap content via ajax calls but this design we use today was not my call... - The best way to solve this would probably be to have the connection reused (hard to pull off I think) or closed as soon as the browser leaves the page (you click to another page). • Calling WCF service with parameter using jQuery

  I'm trying to call a WCF web service hosted by IIS using jQuery. I can call it fine without any parameters, and I can also call it fine with a GET request that includes my parameter, but as soon as I try to send in the request via POST, the call is failing. The web service is currently nothing but: [OperationContract, WebInvoke] public ValidationResultSummary TestValidateOn( object day) { return null; } I've set the parameter to object, to make sure the issue isn't something with type coercion. With a breakpoint in the web service, I know the call without parameters as well as the GET call with param succeeds; in the latter the expected value is sent up. The way things are now, I can use samples array and access each object and its properties as I normally would in any OOP code, which is very convenient, and everything works no problem, but I just wanted to make sure that I am not missing anything in my set up. I took the basics of combining Jquery's ajax with asp.net from Encosia side, and the response type wasn't mentioned there - I read it on another site and am I not sure how vital it is.

  Hi, I'm have a Silverlight 3 UI that access WCF services which in turn access respositories that use NHibernate. To overcome some NHibernate lazy loading issues with WCF I'm using my own DataContract surrogate as described here: http://timvasil.com/blog14/post/2008/02/WCF-serialization-with-NHibernate.aspx. In here I'm setting preserveObjectReferences = true My model contains cycles (i.e. Customer with IList[Order]) When I retrieve an object from my service it works fine, however when I try and send that same object back to the wcf service I get the error: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException was unhandled by user code Message=There was an error while trying to serialize parameter http://tempuri.org/:searchCriteria. The InnerException message was 'Object graph ...' contains cycles and cannot be serialized if references are not tracked. Consider using the DataContractAttribute with the IsReference property set to true.' So cyclical references are now a problem in Silverlight, so I try change my DataContract to be [DataContract(IsReference=true)] but now when I try to retrieve an object from my service I get the following exception: System.ExecutionEngineException was unhandled Message=Exception of type 'System.ExecutionEngineException' was thrown. InnerException: Any ideas?

  Hi, As part of our application we are using apache's xerces jaxp parser. When we deploy the application on weblogic9.2, we are getting the following error. org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'org.apache.cxf.wsdl.WSDLManager' defined in class path resource [META-INF/cxf/cxf.xml]: Instantiation of bean failed; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.BeanInstantiationException: Could not instantiate bean class [org.apache.cxf.wsdl11.WSDLManagerImpl]: Constructor threw exception; nested exception is java.lang.ClassCastException: org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl As per our analysis, i)The weblogic is trying to to load its own DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl which is present in weblogic.jar instead of apache's xerces. We tried the following to force the weblogic to load DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl from xerces i)we have added the following tag into weblogic.xml true ii)we have put latest versions of xalan in jre/lib/endorced folder. this didnt resolve our problem. ii) we have added entries in weblogic-application.xml webapp.encoding.default UTF-8 javax.jws. org.apache.xerces. org.apache.xerces.jaxp.* ii)Added the following entry in weblogic-application.xml <parser-factory> <saxparser-factory>org.apache.xerces.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl</saxparser-factory> <document-builder-factory>org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl </document-builder-factory> org.apache.xalan.processor.TransformerFactoryImpl iii)Added jaxp.properties to load DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl from xerces to the jre/lib and started the server.In this case, the weblogic didnt start. iv)Then we started the server first and then copied the jaxp.properties file during the run time when server starts.But no success None of the above worked for us. • WPF 4.0 Custom panel won't show dynamically added controls in VS 2010 Designer

When I run the application the static and dynamically added controls show up perfectly, but the dynamic controls do not appear within the visual studio designer. Only the controls placed declaratively in the XAML appear. I'm currently adding the dynamic control in the CreateUIElementCollection override, but I've also tried this in the constructor without success.   I am having a problem with PayPal IPN response. After payment is made by the customer, PayPal IPN returns this URL: www.mywebsite.com?orderid=32&tx=2AC67201DL3533325&st=Pending&amt=2.50&cc=USD&cm=&item_number=32 There are a couple of issues Post-back field names are undefined or missing. Thus I can get the INVALID message. I am not sure if my website does not read POST variables. When I looked at IPN history, it shows that each IPN has been sent with the complete url. Payment status keeps coming Pending. Does this issue cause the first issue? Thank you for your responses in advance. But I can't figure out how I can configure it so that when a session expires that the request is not redirect to an other page (expired-url) or displays a 'session expires' message. • XmlSerializer Deserialize failures

  I have wsdl from third party server. Method that i'm interested in returns XmlNode. My thought was wrap web methods and use XmlSerializer to return strongly typed objects. Returned xml looks like this (i removed soap headers): <Response xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:type="ResponseExt" xmlns="http://www.thirdparty.com/lr/"> <Code>0</Code> <Message>SUCCESS</Message> <SessionId>session_token</SessionId> </Response> Looked simple.   I installed the Feb 2010 WPF Toolkit as I'm interested in evaluating the AutoCompleteBox control and I'm having extremely limited success. I can get the control to work, but as soon as I try and set any of it's properties in XAML, I get the following: Unknown build error, 'Cannot resolve dependency to assembly 'WPFToolkit, Version=3.5.40128.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' because it has not been preloaded. When using the ReflectionOnly APIs, dependent assemblies must be pre-loaded or loaded on demand through the ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve event. I've been testing this on a blank WPF window in a new solution. I'm guessing I'm just missing a reference or something...
