• Transition from 2D to 3D Game development [closed]

  I have been working in the 2D world for a long time from manual blitting in windows to SDL to Python (pygame, pyopengl) and a bunch in between. Needless to say I have been programming for a while. So a while ago I started to program in OpenGL via C++ on my Mac. I then got a little intricate with my work after a while (3D models with skeleton structure and terrain development). After a long time of tinkering, I stopped due to the heavy work just to yield a low level understanding of how OpenGL works. Still interested in Graphics and Game Development I went on a search for a stable game engine with some features to grow on. Licence Requirement: Anything other than GPL (LGPL will do) OS Requirement: Mac & Windows Shader: GLSL or CG (GLSL preferred due to experience) Models: Any model structure with rigging (bone) support & animation I am looking at http://www.ogre3d.org/ currently and am starting to meddle around with some examples. However I am a little reluctant to spend a lot of time on it only to yield another dead end. So instead of falling down a spiraling black pit, I am posting my question to you guys to lead me in the right direction based on my requirements. How was your experience with the engine you recommend? Is it well documented? Does it have well documented examples? Any library requirements (Boost, libpng, etc)?

On the production enviroment this context is mapped to a directory outside tomcat dir using a context configuration <Context path="/userimages" docBase="C:/test/userimages"> </Context> And by this way is available in http://wwww.myhost.com/userimages/test.jpg How I achive the same on the development enviroment of the webapp (eclipse, tomcat7 maven plugin)? In other words I want the contents of that folder to be accessible through http://localhost:8080/userimages or http://localhost:8080/myapp/userimages

• How do file references within a PHP Objects work?

  I'm trying to create an PHP object that can load objects in other files on demand when needed. My problem is that when I reference the files based on file location for the class definition, it can not find the files. So file structure: /Test.php /os/os.php (extends kernel) /os/kernel.php /os/libraries/lib1.php /os/libraries/lib2.php /os/libraries/lib3.php In kernel.php, the libraries are referenced as 'libraries/lib1.php'. If I create an "os" object in Test.php. The lib files are not found.

  I need to map to create controller what must response to two urls: "http://localhost/api/controller?id=1" (where only id value can change) "http://localhost/api/controller/anotherId/someconst" (where anotherId is the only one changing part) i map it to such route: routes.MapHttpRoute("Test", "api/{controller}/{id}/{someconst}", new { controller = "Test", someconst = RouteParameter.Optional }); And have to methods in my controller: public void Get(int id) { ... } public void Get(int anotherId, string someconst ) { ... } It works...But it doesn't look nice...cause "string someconst" is not a param, it's just a const part of url. But if i remove "string someconst" param second url wouldn't work. Is it possible to map one controller to two routes to resolve this urls to make it clear without fake param which is a const in fact?

  I asked this question a few days ago but it seems to have gone cold fairly quickly. What I want to do is pretty simple and I can't believe someone hasn't figured it out. Solution needs to be JScript classic ASP. I am reading a file from a remote server and I want to process that (binary) file on my server and spit the results back to the client as XML. Here's a simplified version of what I am trying to do. This code runs, or will if the URL is filled in for your site. This test file is readbin.asp. It reads a file called test.bin, and writes the result to a stream. I used a stream because that makes it easier to read the file and parse the contents.   Hi, I need to call a function from a python script and pass in parameters into it. I have a test python script which I can call and run from java using Jepp - this then adds the person. Eg Test.py import Finding from Finding import * f = Finding() f.addFinding("John", "Doe", 27) Within my Finding class I have addFinding(firstname, lastName, age) However, I wish to be able to do this from within java. Can I change something so that the %.o: %.cpp is used when it needs to make build/widgets/apple.o ?

However, in Firefox (but not Explorer or Chrome) after you click the button and the text displays, the status bar continues to show "Transferring data from test.development..." which erroneously gives the user the belief that something is still loading. I've noticed that if you click on another Firefox tab and then back on the original one, the message goes away, so it seems to be just a Firefox bug that doesn't clear the status bar automatically. Is there a way to clear the status bar automatically in Firefox? or a way to explicitly tell it that the async loading is finished so it can clear the status bar itself? • Eclipse debugging "source not found"

  I just started using Eclipse so go easy on me ;). But when trying to debug a JUnit test case I get a dialog that states the the source is not found when I get to this line in the code in my test method: Assert.assertEquals(1, contents.size()); I know I should probably go and try and download the source from somewhere, but I really don't want to because I have no interest in stepping into the JUnit code. I have the JUnit runtime jar so Why does Eclipse expect me to have all the referenced tools source code in order to debug my own code (seems somewhat silly)? My main question is though, how can I tell Eclipse to skip this dialog when the source is not available and allow me to continue to debug my own code? [Edit] I've isolated the cause of this. It seems that Eclipse seems to think it needs the source when an exception is thrown by the internal JUnit code. In general is there anyway to tell it that it doesn't and just have it throw up an error dialog of some kind instead?

• PHP Linefeeds (\n) Not Working

  For some reason I can't use \n to create a linefeed when outputting to a file with PHP. It just writes "\n" to the file. I've tried using "\\n" as well, where it just writes "\n" (as expected). But I can't for the life of me figure out why adding \n to my strings isn't creating new lines. I've also tried \r\n but it just appends "\r\n" to the line in the file. Example: error_log('test\n', 3, 'error.log'); error_log('test2\n', 3, 'error.log'); Outputs: test\ntest2\n Using MAMP on OSX in case that matters (some sort of PHP config thing maybe?). Any suggestions?

  I have a lot of apps that send email. Sometimes it's one or two messages at a time. Sometimes it's thousands of messages. In development, I usually test by substituting my own address for any recipient addresses. I'm sure that's what everybody else does, until they get fed up with it and find a better solution. I was thinking about creating a dummy SMTP server that just catches the messages and dumps them in a SQLLite database, or an mbox file, or whatever. But surely such a tool already exists? How do you test sending email?

We just cranked up the warning flags on gcc and found quite a few instances of these warnings and I'm curious what type of problems this may have caused prior to fixing them? Also, why is this a warning and not an error. How is gcc even able to successfully link this executable? As you can see in the example below, the executable functions as expected.   I understand there isn't a way to interrogate a users IE settings directly due to security reasons, but is there a way to derive this answer with some other mechanism? I would like to stop a user from using my site if the setting "Check for newer versions of stored pages" is set to "Never". Any suggestions? Is there a way I could test for this using javascript? An example of what I am trying to accomplish is this: While it is not possible to check IE settings to see if you are running a popup blocker, that is a way to "test" for a popup blocker via javascript. I am looking for something similiar but for the cache setting, not the popup blocker.

We have several WCF Web Services hosted and we need to cache certain values that can be persisted and fetched regardless of a client's session to a service. I am looking at the following technologies: Caching Application Block 4.1 WCF TCP Service using HttpRuntime Caching Memcached Win32 and Client Microsoft AppFabric Caching Beta 2 Our test server is a Windows Server 2003 with IIS6, but our production server is Windows Server 2008, so any of the above options would work (except for AppFabric Caching on our test server). Does anyone have any experience with any of these? This caching solution will not be used to store a lot of data, but it will need to be fetched from frequently and fast. Thanks in advance.

Android Apps Windows Phone is not the only app store that needs a boost.  But unlike Windows Phone, there is a very easy way to get a lot more apps on your Windows PC: BlueStacks.  Right now BlueStacks has 3 things going against it: its UI integration is a desktop app hack, it does not work on RT, and no one know about it.  All three could be fixed if Microsoft bought the company or pulled off the same thing.  The store can be designed to give preference to Windows Store apps but it closes a lot of holes quickly. The Desktop Experience Windows should switch between desktop mode and tablet mode automatically.  Laptops without touch and desktops should work a lot more like Windows 7.  The PC should boot to desktop and Metro apps should run in windows, like MetroMix.  A tablet should boot to the Start Screen by default and pretty much work the same way it does now in 8.1.  Touch laptops should give the user an in your face option on first boot to pick the experience.  And finally, the experience can be changed automatically if the PC is docked or has external monitors hooked up. Death of the Desktop This might seem completely opposite to the last feature, but its not.  I should have no need to ever see the desktop from Start Screen mode.  Every settings needs to be available, an amazing port of the file explorer is needed, and Office Metro must be released.  Desktop apps should also be able to run in full screen mode like other Metro apps.

  Alright so my terminology when it comes to C# isn't great, so I'll attempt to explain this with a small example. If you create a class which you are using within a PropertyGrid and you have the following values: class Test { public Point example { get; set; } } This will produce a PropertyGrid which has an expandable object "example" which has fields X and Y in order to create a "Point". I'm attempting to create an object "name" which has fields "firstname" and "lastname", so I have: class Test { public Name example { get; set; } } public struct Name { public string firstname { get; set; } public string lastname { get; set; } } This however isn't working as intended. I think I need to override some method(s) in order to get this working, however since I don't really have the terminology down for PropertyGrids it is difficult for me to find a solution.
