  So I tried to install Wubi. On boot, when I select Ubuntu it starts then I get a purple screen then black screen. My monitor is like completely off. So then I have to hold down my power button and shut it off. I boot it up then held shift and typed in "nomodeset" after the second to last line, but then when it boot it went into the command prompt thing and just stopped after "checking battery" or something. This is my first time installing any linux distro. I want to install it alongside windows and dual boot it with wubi because that is easy and simple.   Oracle Communications Billing and Revenue Management (Oracle BRM) is the telcos industry´s leading solution intended for communications service providers. This post encourages to know BRM starting with the basics. History Portal was a billing and revenue managament solution to communications industry created by Portal Software. In 2006 Oracle acquired Portal Software and the solution was renamed BRM. Today Oracle BRM is the first end-to-end packaged enterprise software suite for the communications industry, however BRM is just one more product in the catalog of OSS solutions that Oracle offers. BRM can bill and manage all communications services including wireline, wireless, broadband, cable, voice over IP, IPTV, music, and video. BRM Architecture BRM´s architecture consists of 4 layers or tiers. Through these layers are the data, bussines logic and interfaces to connect graphical client tools.Application tier This layer provides GUI client tools enabling communication to other layers through open APIs. Some BRM client applications are: Customer Center Pricing Center Universal Event Loader Web Server BRM Billing Application Collections Center Permissioning Center Furthermore, this layer is where are provided real-time external events. Bussines Process Tier Although all layers are equally important, I think it deserves more atention because in this tier BRM functionality is implemented. All functions that give life to BRM are in this layer coded in C language called Opcodes (System Processes in the image). Any changes or additional functionality should be made here, so when we try to customize the product, we will most of the time programming in this layer (Business Policies in the image).Bussines Process Tier Features: Implements Portal system functionalityValidates data from the application tierModifies Portal behavior through business policies. Business policies can by customized.Triggers external systems using event notification. Object Tier This layer is responsible for transfer the BRM requests into database language and translate BRM requests into external system requests. Without it, the business logic (data from Bussines Process Tier) could not be understood by the relational database. Data tier Data tier is responsable for the storage of BRM database and other external systems databases. External systems include credit card, tax, and directory servers. Finally, It's important to note that BRM is designed to easily integrate with the following solutions:AIA 2.4 Siebel CRM E-Business Suite - G/L onlyCommunications Services Gatekeeper Oracle BI Publisher. Personally, I think that BRM could improve migrating client-server architecture to a fully web platform that works with Oracle Middleware like any product of the Fusion Middleware family.   Nowadays browsers and content management systems all have the plugin/module/addon/theme systems for users to extend at their own will. Developers can also submit plugin to share the plugin with others. The most famous examples are Firefox Addon and Wordpress Plugin Directory. I want to ask that if there is an open source web system specifically designed for this need - to host plugins? Not just one plugin, but all plugins for one software? Ideally it should allow developers to upload the plugin, have a public version for each update, and client software can check if there are any plugin available through the directory's API. As an example, a CMS can have one such directory to host/display theme files. Also is there a better keyword to describe this kind of system?

• Uninstalling dual boot Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Windows 7

  I tried Ubuntu and decided Windows 7 was good enough for me.I tried to uninstall it but in Disk Management in Windows 7, I can't find the partition for Ubuntu. There are HP_Tools, OS (C:), Recovery (D:) and SYSTEM partitions and are all NTFS. My HDD has 250 GB, but it shows only ~230 GBs. I'm confussed about what's going on, as I'm pretty sure I had Ubuntu installed, even booted into it a few days back. I even used EaseUS. Shows the same thing as Disk Management. I've made a Ubuntu Live USB. How do I get Ubuntu off my laptop? Thanks in advance.

  What software do sites like www.shopzilla.com, www.become.com, www.kelkoo.com etc.. use for the Pay-Per-Click product listing campaigns they offer for their retailers. I am asking what kind of software do they use to know that a certain retailer's products has been clicked 50 times or 100 times(and then the cost of the click is deducted from his money-account) etc... Can someone point me to those kind of softwares? EDIT *Some Explanation :: * In a site like www.shopzilla.com, retailers will upload thier products(list their products on the site). Anytime a buyer clicks on a product to go the retailer's website, an amount of money(say $0.20) is deducted from his account(the money he has deposited in his account with shopzilla). A retailer can see how many times buyers have clicked on his products and how much money remains in his shopzilla accounts. Am looking for such softwares that comparison sites like shopzilla uses to run this type of campaigns. I hope it is clear now.

I have heard of no one who does. What are you for? - perplexedly wondered aged and wise DBA. At least that DBA thought she was aged and wise though each day tried to prove to her that she wasn't. - I know you. You are quite lazy. Why would you do additional clicks to move from window to window? From Tool to tool ? This is irritating, isn't it? I can run windows system commands, sql statements and much more from the same script, from the same query window! - I have all my tools that I‘m used to, I have Management Studio, Cmd, Powershell. They can do anything for me. I don’t need additional tools. - I promise you, you will like me. – the thing continued to whine . - All right, show me. – she gave up. It’s always this way, she thought sadly, - easier to agree than to explain why you don’t want. - Enable me and then think about anything that you always couldn’t do through the management studio and had to use other tools. - Ok. Google for me the list of greatest features of SQL SERVER 2012. - Well... I’m not sure... Think about something else. - Ok, here is something easy for you. I want to check if file folder exists or if file is there. Though, I can easily do this using xp_cmdshell … - This is easy for me. – rejoiced the feature. By the way, having the items of the menu talking to you usually means you should stop working and go home. Or drink coffee. Or both. Well, aged and wise dba wasn’t thinking about the weirdness of the situation at that moment. - After enabling me, – said unfairly forgotten feature (it was thinking of itself in such manner) – after enabling me you can use all command line commands in the same management studio query window by adding two exclamation marks !! at the beginning of the script line to denote that you want to use cmd command: -Just keep in mind that when using this feature, you are actually running the commands ON YOUR computer and not on SQL server that query window is connected to. This is main difference from using xp_cmdshell which is executing commands on sql server itself. Bottomline, use UNC path instead of local path. - Look, there are much more than that. - The SQLCMD feature was getting exited.- You can get IP of your servers, create, rename and drop folders. You can see the contents of any file anywhere and even start different tools from the same query window: Not so aged and wise DBA was getting interested: - I also want to run different scripts on different servers without changing connection of the query window. - Sure, sure! Another great feature that CMDmode is providing us with and giving more power to querying. Use “:” to use additional features, like :connect that allows you to change connection: - Now imagine, you have one script where you have all your changes, like creating staging table on the DWH staging server, adding fact table to DWH itself and updating stored procedures in the server where reporting database is located. - Now, give me more challenges! - Script out a list of stored procedures into the text files. - You can do it easily by using command :out which will write the query results into the specified text file. The output can be the code of the stored procedure or any data. Actually this is the same as changing the query output into the file instead of the grid. - Now, take all of the scripts and run all of them, one by one, on the different server.  - Easily - Come on... I’m sure that you can not... -Why not? Naturally, I can do it using :r commant which is opening a script and executing it. Look, I can also use :setvar command to define an environment variable in SQLCMD mode. Just note that you have to leave the empty string between :r commands, otherwise it’s not working although I have no idea why. - Wow.- She was really impressed. - Ok, I’ll go to try all those… -Wait, wait! I know how to google the SQL SERVER features for you! This example will open chrome explorer with search results for the “SQL server 2012 top features” ( change the path to suit your PC): “Well, this can be probably useful stuff, maybe this feature is really unfairly forgotten”, thought the DBA while going through the dark empty parking lot to her lonely car. “As someone really wise once said: “It is what we think we know that keeps us from learning. Learn, unlearn and relearn”.

• SPARC T4-4 Delivers World Record First Result on PeopleSoft Combined Benchmark

  Oracle's SPARC T4-4 servers running Oracle's PeopleSoft HCM 9.1 combined online and batch benchmark achieved World Record 18,000 concurrent users while executing a PeopleSoft Payroll batch job of 500,000 employees in 43.32 minutes and maintaining online users response time at < 2 seconds. This world record is the first to run online and batch workloads concurrently. This result was obtained with a SPARC T4-4 server running Oracle Database 11g Release 2, a SPARC T4-4 server running PeopleSoft HCM 9.1 application server and a SPARC T4-2 server running Oracle WebLogic Server in the web tier. The SPARC T4-4 server running the application tier used Oracle Solaris Zones which provide a flexible, scalable and manageable virtualization environment. The average CPU utilization on the SPARC T4-2 server in the web tier was 17%, on the SPARC T4-4 server in the application tier it was 59%, and on the SPARC T4-4 server in the database tier was 35% (online and batch) leaving significant headroom for additional processing across the three tiers. The SPARC T4-4 server used for the database tier hosted Oracle Database 11g Release 2 using Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) for database files management with I/O performance equivalent to raw devices. The PeopleSoft HRSS benchmark kit is a Oracle standard benchmark kit run by all platform vendors to measure the performance. It's an OLTP benchmark where DB SQLs are moderately complex. The results are certified by Oracle and a white paper is published. PeopleSoft HR SS defines a business transaction as a series of HTML pages that guide a user through a particular scenario. Users are defined as corporate Employees, Managers and HR administrators. The benchmark consist of 14 scenarios which emulate users performing typical HCM transactions such as viewing paycheck, promoting and hiring employees, updating employee profile and other typical HCM application transactions. All these transactions are well-defined in the PeopleSoft HR Self-Service 9.1 benchmark kit. This benchmark metric is the weighted average response search/save time for all the transactions. The PeopleSoft 9.1 Payroll (North America) benchmark demonstrates system performance for a range of processing volumes in a specific configuration. This workload represents large batch runs typical of a ERP environment during a mass update. The benchmark measures five application business process run times for a database representing large organization. They are Paysheet Creation, Payroll Calculation, Payroll Confirmation, Print Advice forms, and Create Direct Deposit File. The benchmark metric is the cumulative elapsed time taken to complete the Paysheet Creation, Payroll Calculation and Payroll Confirmation business application processes. The benchmark metrics are taken for each respective benchmark while running simultaneously on the same database back-end. Specifically, the payroll batch processes are started when the online workload reaches steady state (the maximum number of online users) and overlap with online transactions for the duration of the steady state. Key Points and Best Practices Two Oracle PeopleSoft Domain sets with 200 application servers each on a SPARC T4-4 server were hosted in 2 separate Oracle Solaris Zones to demonstrate consolidation of multiple application servers, ease of administration and performance tuning. Each Oracle Solaris Zone was bound to a separate processor set, each containing 15 cores (total 120 threads). The default set (1 core from first and third processor socket, total 16 threads) was used for network and disk interrupt handling. This was done to improve performance by reducing memory access latency by using the physical memory closest to the processors and offload I/O interrupt handling to default set threads, freeing up cpu resources for Application Servers threads and balancing application workload across 240 threads. • Can resizing images with css be good?

  After reading Is CSS resizing of images still a bad idea?, I thought of a similar question. (too similar? should this be closed?) Lets say you need to use 10 different product image sizes throughout your website and you have 20k-30k different product images, should you use 10 different files for each image size? or maybe 5 different files and use css to resize the other 5? Would there ever be combination that would be good? Or should you always make separate image files? If you use css to resize them, you will save on storage (in GBs) but you will have slight increase in bandwidth and slower loading images(but if images are cached, and you show both sizes of the image would you use less bandwidth and have faster loads?) (But of course you wouldn't want to use css to resize images for mobile sites.)

  Database .NET is an awesome tool that allow us manage several database in simultaneous (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, etc). What lead me to install this tool was an problem that must be shared by must developers. Tools like SQL Server Management Studio consume to many resources, and if you don't have a decent computer you'll get problems in performance, and that's my case! With Database .NET we can access an SQL Server for example, and make several actions to database (crud operations, manage procedures, etc).Of course that this tool can replace the use of SQL Server Management Studio for example!  But it's really usefull if  you just need to perform small operations because it consumes many fewer resources. • Usb WiFi dongle pluggin in doesnt create wlan0 interface

  I use D-Link DWA-110 WiFi usb dongle. It used to be working well, but after some config changes I broke something and now when I plug the dongle in I see it in lsusb output, but wlan0 isn't created and the led on the dongle doesn't light. • Rapid Planning: Next Generation MRP

  MRP has been a mainstay of manufacturing systems for 40 years. MRP evolved from simple inventory planning systems to become the heart of the MRPII systems which eventually became ERP.
