  • FileInputStream negative skip

    - by Peter Štibraný
    I'm trying to find more about history of FileInputStream.skip(negative) operation. According to InputStream documentation: If n is negative, no bytes are skipped. It seems that implementation of FileInputStream from Sun used to throw IOException instead, which is now also documented in Javadoc: If n is negative, an IOException is thrown, even though the skip method of the InputStream superclass does nothing in this case. I just tried that, and found that FileInputStream.skip(-10) did in fact return -10! It didn't threw exception, it didn't even return 0, it returned -10. (I've tried with Java 1.5.0_22 from Sun, and Java 1.6.0_18 from Sun). Is this a known bug? Why hasn't it been fixed, or why documentation is kept the way it is? Can someone point me to some discussion about this issue? I can't find anything.

  • Content type - Restlet

    - by DutrowLLC
    How do you set the content type in Restlet (version 2.0 for google app engine)? In this case, I'd like to set the content type to ""text/xml". I have: public class SubResource extends ServerResource { @Get public Representation get(Representation representation){ setStatus(Status.SUCCESS_OK); StringRepresentation sr = new StringRepresentation(getSomeXml()); return sr; } } I'm unsure even if it is a value that is set in the Representation, or if it is set from the ServerResource class the same way that the return code is. ANSWER: StringRepresentation sr = new StringRepresentation(getSomeXml()); sr.setMediaType(MediaType.TEXT_XML);

  • @OneToMany property null in Entity after (second) merge

    - by iNPUTmice
    Hi, I'm using JPA (with Hibernate) and Gilead in a GWT project. On the server side I have this method and I'm calling this method twice with the same "campaign". On the second call it throws a null pointer exception in line 4 "campaign.getTextAds()" public List<WrapperTextAd> getTextAds(WrapperCampaign campaign) { campaign = em.merge(campaign); System.out.println("getting textads for "+campaign.getName()); for(WrapperTextAd textad: campaign.getTextAds()) { //do nothing } return new ArrayList<WrapperTextAd>(campaign.getTextAds()); } The code in WrapperCampaign Entity looks like this @OneToMany(mappedBy="campaign") public Set<WrapperTextAd> getTextAds() { return this.textads; }

  • C#/Resharper 5 structural search, detect and warn if any non-virtual public methods on classes with

    - by chillitom
    Hi All, I'm using LinFu's dynamic proxy to add some advice to some classes. The problem is that the proxied objects can only intercept virtual methods and will return the return type's default value for non-virtual methods. I can tell whether a class is proxied or not based whether the class or any of it's method has an interception attribute, e.g. [Transaction] Is it possible to write a ReSharper 5 structural search that would warn if any non-virtual public methods are defined on a class with an interception attribute. E.g. Ok public class InterceptedClass { [Transaction] public virtual void TransactionalMethod() { ... } public virtual void AnotherMethod() { ... } } Bad public class InterceptedClass { [Transaction] public virtual void TransactionalMethod() { ... } public void AnotherMethod() // non-virtual method will not be called by proxy { ... } } Many Thanks.

  • JMS have javax.jms.InvalidDestinationException when client stop working

    - by Tran
    I use JMS for sending requests from a client to a server. My client sends a request to the server. While the server is working with my request, my client stops (network problem) before the server finishes. When the server is finished, it'll return to the client, but the server can't see the client which sent the request to server, at which point, the server will return an exception in log file. The exception is : javax.jms.InvalidDestinationException: Cannot publish to a deleted Destination: temp-queue://ID:PC0092-49463-1344231871819-0:0:9 [^] My question is: what do I need to do in this case? Can I catch or disable this exception? And how can I do it? (Sorry, If my english is not good.)

  • when to use the abstract factory pattern?

    - by hguser
    Hi: I want to know when we need to use the abstract factory pattern. Here is an example,I want to know if it is necessary. The UML THe above is the abstract factory pattern, it is recommended by my classmate. THe following is myown implemention. I do not think it is necessary to use the pattern. And the following is some core codes: package net; import java.io.IOException; import java.util.HashMap; import java.util.Map; import java.util.Properties; public class Test { public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException, InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException, ClassNotFoundException { DaoRepository dr=new DaoRepository(); AbstractDao dao=dr.findDao("sql"); dao.insert(); } } class DaoRepository { Map<String, AbstractDao> daoMap=new HashMap<String, AbstractDao>(); public DaoRepository () throws IOException, InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException, ClassNotFoundException { Properties p=new Properties(); p.load(DaoRepository.class.getResourceAsStream("Test.properties")); initDaos(p); } public void initDaos(Properties p) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException, ClassNotFoundException { String[] daoarray=p.getProperty("dao").split(","); for(String dao:daoarray) { AbstractDao ad=(AbstractDao)Class.forName(dao).newInstance(); daoMap.put(ad.getID(),ad); } } public AbstractDao findDao(String id) {return daoMap.get(id);} } abstract class AbstractDao { public abstract String getID(); public abstract void insert(); public abstract void update(); } class SqlDao extends AbstractDao { public SqlDao() {} public String getID() {return "sql";} public void insert() {System.out.println("sql insert");} public void update() {System.out.println("sql update");} } class AccessDao extends AbstractDao { public AccessDao() {} public String getID() {return "access";} public void insert() {System.out.println("access insert");} public void update() {System.out.println("access update");} } And the content of the Test.properties is just one line: dao=net.SqlDao,net.SqlDao So any ont can tell me if this suitation is necessary?

  • ANDing javascript objects together

    - by Jonas
    I ran across this chunk of code (modified) in our application, and am confused to how it works: function someObject() { this.someProperty = {}; this.foo = { bar: { baz: function() { return "Huh?" } } }; this.getValue = function() { return (this.someProperty && this.foo.bar && this.foo.bar.baz && this.foo.bar.baz()) || null; } } function test() { var o = new someObject(); var val = o.getValue(); alert(val); } when you call the test() function, the text "Huh?" is alerted. I'm not sure how the result of getValue is returning that, I would've thought doing A && B && C && D would have returned true, rather than the value of D.

  • Resharper Split String literal

    - by Ismael
    I was not lucky in my 15 minutes googling. Maybe bad luck with good keyword? Why does the Resharper suggest spliting a string in function parameter? Example: From this: return PartialView("Categorias", lista); To this: return PartialView("Cat" + "egorias", lista); I checked documentation here: link And it says: Split string literal - Splits string literal into two literals. I want to discover why is this a good practice, what are the fundamental idealogic behind the scenes that achieved this practice. I don't want to do it without knowing why... Help is soooo appreciated.

  • Problem with type coercion and string concatenation in JavaScript in Greasemonkey script on Firefox

    - by Yi Jiang
    I'm creating a GreaseMonkey script to improve the user interface of the 10k tools Stack Overflow uses. I have encountered an unreproducible and frankly bizarre problem that has confounded me and the others in the JavaScript room on SO Chat. We have yet to find the cause after several lengthy debugging sessions. The problematic script can be found here. Source - Install The problem occurs at line 85, the line after the 'vodoo' comment: return (t + ' (' + +(+f.offensive + +f.spam) + ')'); It might look a little weird, but the + in front of the two variables and the inner bracket is for type coercion, the inner middle + is for addition, and the other ones are for concatenation. Nothing special, but observant reader might note that type coercion on the inner bracket is unnecessary, since both are already type coerced to numbers, and type coercing result is useless when they get concatenated into a string anyway. Not so! Removing the + breaks the script, causing f.offensive and f.spam to be concatenated instead of added together. Adding further console.log only makes things more confusing: console.log(f.offensive + f.spam); // 50 console.log('' + (+f.offensive + +f.spam)); // 5, but returning this yields 50 somehow console.log('' + (+f.offensive + +f.spam) + ''); // 50 Source: http://chat.stackoverflow.com/transcript/message/203261#203261 The problem is that this is unreproducible - running scripts like console.log('a' + (+'3' + +'1') + 'b'); in the Firebug console yields the correct result, as does (function(){ return 'a' + (+'3' + +'1') + 'b'; })(); Even pulling out large chunks of the code and running them in the console does not reproduce this bug: $('.post-menu a[id^=flag-post-]').each(function(){ var f = {offensive: '4', spam: '1'}; if(f){ $(this).text(function(i, t){ // Vodoo - please do not remove the '+' in front of the inner bracket return (t + ' (' + +(+f.offensive + +f.spam) + ')'); }); } }); Tim Stone in the chatroom has reproduction instruction for those who are below 10k. This bug only appears in Firefox - Chrome does not appear to exhibit this problem, leading me to believe that this may be a problem with either Firefox's JavaScript engine, or the Greasemonkey add-on. Am I right? I can be found in the JavaScript room if you want more detail and/or want to discuss this.

  • Ugly thing and advantage of anonymos method -C#

    - by nettguy
    I was asked to explain the ugly thing and advantages of anonymous method. I explained possibly Ugly thing anonymous methods turning quickly into spaghetti code. Advantages We can produce thread safe code using anonymous method :Example static List<string> Names = new List<string>( new string[] { "Jon Skeet", "Marc Gravell", "David", "Bill Gates" }); static List<string> FindNamesStartingWith(string startingText) { return Names.FindAll( delegate(string name) { return name.StartsWith(startingText); }); } But really i did not know whether it is thread safe or not.I was asked to justify it. Can any one help me to understand (1) advantages of anonymous methods (2) Is the above code thread safe or not?

  • ORACLE using function parametes in where claus

    - by Gainder
    Hello, I have created a simple static function in oracle 10g to get the reference of an object based on his pk. STATIC FUNCTION getRef(nome IN VARCHAR2) RETURN REF folder_typ IS fl_r REF folder_typ := null; BEGIN SELECT REF(fl) INTO fl_r FROM folder_tab fl WHERE fl.nome = nome; RETURN fl_r; END getRef; This gives me an error because he could't fetch the row. If insted of WHERE fl.nome = nome; I write WHERE fl.nome = 'folder1'; insted of passing it as parameter it works. I think im not using the parameter in the right way. How can I use it?

Also when I close the spell checker the main form is back to normal. It seems like it is opening up Microsoft word then hiding the window, only allowing the spell checker to be seen. Please help.

  • Js/Jquery bind Datatable or Datalist

    - by Robin Rieger
    Scenario I have a input box for post codes. When you put in a postcode it makes a call to a web service and gets all the suburb names back and binds them to a list, like an input dropdown list. This works when I return a List<string> from the web service for just the names. No problem. The problem arises when I go to save the values to the db. When it gets saved I cannot save the name of the suburb in the suburb column in the db. I have to save the id of that suburb for the foreign key constraint. So then I changed the List<> thing slighty and cheated and returned the following. <ArrayOfString> <string>8213</string> <string>BROOKFIELD</string> <string>8214</string> <string>CHAPEL HILL</string> <string>8215</string> <string>FIG TREE POCKET</string> etc.... The reason for this is so I can have the value of the item in the drop down as the id and hence can save that in the code behind on save. To do this, I did the following: $(result).each(function (index, value) { var suburbname; var pattern = new RegExp('[0-9*]'); var m = pattern.exec(value); if (m == null) { suburbname = value var o = new Option(suburbname, suburbid); /// jquerify the DOM object 'o' so we can use the html method $(o).html(suburbname); $(document.getElementById('<%= suburb.ClientID %>')).append($("<option></option>") .attr("value", suburbid) .text(suburbname)); } else { suburbid = value } That works as well... the drop down only has name and the value for those is the number The problem....? I am making assumptions above which I don't like... I.e. that the name never has a number it, that the web service will always return the id first to set the id before running the add to the dropdown for the first time. It just feels wrong.... :S (thoughts?) So, if I change the web service to return a datatable, to out the following (which is what the whole query returns): <Suburbs diffgr:id="Suburbs1" msdata:rowOrder="0"> <SuburbID>8213</SuburbID> <SuburbName>BROOKFIELD</SuburbName> <StateID>4</StateID> <StateCode>07</StateCode> <CountryCode>61</CountryCode> <TimeZones>10.00</TimeZones> <Postcode>4069</Postcode> </Suburbs> Is there a way of acheiving the same as above in js/jquery. So when the user inputs the postcode the webservice returns the datatable and then binds it to the select with the SuburbID going into the value and the name going into the text??? Any other ways I could return the data from the web service to solve this? Note: essentially I need the option to look like this: <option value="8213">BROOKFIELD</option> I also thought I could make a second call to get just the id on the bind of the text... but I kind of want to only make one call.... Thanks in adance, Cheers Robin .net, C#, js, jquery, web service..... Solution with guidance from Billy The adding to the select using the other method below did not work, but my original way did once I had the correct variables so just used that.... The service returns: <ArrayOfMyClass> <MyClass> <ID>8213</ID> <Name>BROOKFIELD</Name> </MyClass> ... etc The js is: (note: it is onchange of the postcode input box. it runs a web service and then on success runs the following) function OnCompleted(result) { var _suburbs = result; var i = 0; $(_suburbs).each(function () { var SuburbName = _suburbs[i].Name; var SuburbID = _suburbs[i].ID; $(document.getElementById('<%= suburb.ClientID %>')).append($("<option></option>") .attr("value", SuburbID) .text(SuburbName)); i = i + 1; });

  • adding child nodes to a treeview control in wpf,c#

    - by ebhakt
    Hi , i have implemented a treeview control on a buttonclick event like this: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; using System.Windows.Data; using System.Windows.Documents; using System.Windows.Input; using System.Windows.Media; using System.Windows.Media.Imaging; using System.Windows.Navigation; using System.Windows.Shapes; using System.Collections.ObjectModel; namespace TaxonomyTreeview { /// /// Interaction logic for Window1.xaml /// public partial class Window1 : Window { ObservableCollection _TaxonomyCollection = new ObservableCollection(); public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); } private void Window_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { } public ObservableCollection<TaxonomyData> TaxonomyCollection { get { return _TaxonomyCollection; } } private void SelectedTaxonomyChanged(object sender, RoutedPropertyChangedEventArgs<Object> e) { TaxonomyData taxo = taxonomytree.SelectedItem as TaxonomyData; if (taxo != null) { MessageBox.Show("" + taxo.Tid); } } public class TaxonomyData { private string _name; private string _tid; public string Tid { get { return _tid; } set { _tid = value; } } public string Name { get { return _name; } set { _name = value; } } public TaxonomyData(string name, string tid) { Name = name; Tid = tid; } } private void populate_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { taxonomytree.Items.Clear(); TaxonomyCollection.Add(new TaxonomyData("Taxonomy1", "1")); taxonomytree.Items.Add(TaxonomyCollection[0]); } } } The xaml code is : <TextBox Height="23" Margin="20,9,0,0" Name="startvid" VerticalAlignment="Top" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Width="120" /> <TextBox Height="23" Margin="165,9,151,0" Name="endvid" VerticalAlignment="Top" /> <Button Height="23.78" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Margin="0,8.22,11,0" Name="populate" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="115" Click="populate_Click">Populate</Button> <TreeView HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="20,53,0,144" Width="120" Name="taxonomytree" ItemsSource="{Binding Window1.TaxonomyCollection}" SelectedItemChanged="SelectedTaxonomyChanged"> <TreeView.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=Name}" /> </DataTemplate> </TreeView.ItemTemplate> </TreeView> </Grid> As i want to display, the structure in a hierarchy , i want to know what is the best method to add a child node to this Please help

  • Is it possible to have CommandManager requery only specific WPF command instead of all?

    - by aoven
    I'm trying to implement a highly responsive UI for my MVVM application, so I've chosen to have all command handlers automatically execute in a BackgroundWorker so they don't block the UI. But at the same time, I don't want the user to be able to execute the same command while it is still executing in the background. The solution seems obvious: When Executed handler is invoked, have the CanExecute handler return false Start the BackgroundWorker async When BackgroundWorker finishes, have the CanExecute handler return true again. Problem is, I need to notify WPF after step 1 and again after step 3 that CanExecute has changed and that it should be required. I know I can do it by calling CommandManager.InvalidateRequerySuggested, but that causes CanExecute handlers of all other commands to be requeried as well. Having a lot of commands, that's not good. Is there a way to ask for requery of a specific command - i.e. the one that is currently being executed? TIA

  • WCF method that updates object passed in

    - by Georgia Brown
    Am I correct in thinking that if I have a WCF OperationContract takes in an object and needs to set a property on that object so the client gets the update, I need to declare it to return the object. e.g. given a datacontract: [DataContract] public class CompositeType { [DataMember] public int Key { get; set; } [DataMember] public string Something { get; set; } } this will not work with WCF: public void GetDataUsingDataContract(CompositeType composite) { composite.Key = 42; } this will work: public CompositeType GetDataUsingDataContract(CompositeType composite) { composite.Key = 42; return new CompositeType { Key = composite.Key, Something = composite.Something }; }

  • Searching documents by tag using the Scribd API is no longer returning expected results.

    - by George
    Recently I have encountered an issue with Scribd where searching via Scribd API (docs.search) for documents by tag is no longer working. This has been working (for over 6 months) to return a number of documents that I have tagged with "fdsafetyandprevention" (accessible here http://www.scribd.com/tag/fdsafetyandprevention). Just recently my search via the API has stopped working. Note that test searches such as @tags "selfhelp" as described in the Scribd documentation DO work. Could my issue be related to caching or the age of my documents and Scribd choosing to not return them in search results? I have been using scribd.php (http://www.scribd.com/developers/libraries) to interface with the API using $scribd-search(@tags "fdsafetyandprevention", 20, 0, "all"). I am following the Scribd documentation for docs.search and advanced help (http://www.scribd.com/developers/search_help). Help greatly appreciated. George.

  • highlighting words at the end of a word

    - by fusion
    i'm not sure how i could have phrased the title better, but my issue is that the highlight function doesn't highlight the search keywords which are at the end of the word. for example, if the search keyword is 'self', it will highlight 'self' or 'self-lessness' or 'Self' [with capital S] but it will not highlight the self of 'yourself' or 'himself' etc. . this is my highlight function: function highlightWords($text, $words) { preg_match_all('~\w+~', $words, $m); if(!$m) return $text; $re = '~\\b(' . implode('|', $m[0]) . ')~i'; $string = preg_replace($re, '<span class="highlight">$0</span>', $text); return $string; }

  • MemoryStream, XmlTextWriter and Warning 4 CA2202 : Microsoft.Usage

    - by rasx
    The Run Code Analysis command in Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate returns a warning when seeing a certain pattern with MemoryStream and XmlTextWriter. This is the warning: Warning 7 CA2202 : Microsoft.Usage : Object 'ms' can be disposed more than once in method 'KinteWritePages.GetXPathDocument(DbConnection)'. To avoid generating a System.ObjectDisposedException you should not call Dispose more than one time on an object.: Lines: 421 C:\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\Songhay.DataAccess.KinteWritePages\KinteWritePages.cs 421 Songhay.DataAccess.KinteWritePages This is the form: static XPathDocument GetXPathDocument(DbConnection connection) { XPathDocument xpDoc = null; var ms = new MemoryStream(); try { using(XmlTextWriter writer = new XmlTextWriter(ms, Encoding.UTF8)) { using(DbDataReader reader = CommonReader.GetReader(connection, Resources.KinteRssSql)) { writer.WriteStartDocument(); writer.WriteStartElement("data"); do { while(reader.Read()) { writer.WriteStartElement("item"); for(int i = 0; i < reader.FieldCount; i++) { writer.WriteRaw(String.Format("<{0}>{1}</{0}>", reader.GetName(i), reader[i].ToString())); } writer.WriteFullEndElement(); } } while(reader.NextResult()); writer.WriteFullEndElement(); writer.WriteEndDocument(); writer.Flush(); ms.Position = 0; xpDoc = new XPathDocument(ms); } } } finally { ms.Dispose(); } return xpDoc; } The same kind of warning is produced for this form: XPathDocument xpDoc = null; using(var ms = new MemoryStream()) { using(XmlTextWriter writer = new XmlTextWriter(ms, Encoding.UTF8)) { using(DbDataReader reader = CommonReader.GetReader(connection, Resources.KinteRssSql)) { //... } } } return xpDoc; By the way, the following form produces another warning: XPathDocument xpDoc = null; var ms = new MemoryStream(); using(XmlTextWriter writer = new XmlTextWriter(ms, Encoding.UTF8)) { using(DbDataReader reader = CommonReader.GetReader(connection, Resources.KinteRssSql)) { //... } } return xpDoc; The above produces the warning: Warning 7 CA2000 : Microsoft.Reliability : In method 'KinteWritePages.GetXPathDocument(DbConnection)', object 'ms' is not disposed along all exception paths. Call System.IDisposable.Dispose on object 'ms' before all references to it are out of scope. C:\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\Songhay.DataAccess.KinteWritePages\KinteWritePages.cs 383 Songhay.DataAccess.KinteWritePages In addition to the following, what are my options?: Supress warning CA2202. Supress warning CA2000 and hope that Microsoft is disposing of MemoryStream (because Reflector is not showing me the source code). Rewrite my legacy code to recognize the wonderful XDocument and LINQ to XML.

  • Implicit and Explicit implementation of interface.

    - by Amby
    While working on a upgrade i happened to come across a code like this. interface ICustomization { IMMColumnsDefinition GetColumnsDefinition(); } class Customization : ICustomization { private readonly ColumnDefinition _columnDefinition; //More code here. public ColumnsDefinition GetColumnsDefinition() { return _columnDefinition; } ColumnsDefinition ICustomization.GetColumnsDefinition() //redundant { return GetColumnsDefinition(); } } My question is: Is there any need/use of 'explicit' implementation of interface in this piece of code? Will it create any problem if i remove the method (explicit implementation of interface) that i have marked "redundant" above? PS: I understand that explicit implementation of interface is very important, and it can be used when we need to give access to a method at interface level only, and to use two interface with same signature of method.
