• Hungry hungry BIOS: why do I have less than 4 GiB of memory?

  I thought I had 4 GiB of memory, but just to be sure, let's ask the BIOS about that: ?: sudo dmidecode --type 20 # dmidecode 2.12 SMBIOS 2.6 present. But I can't use all of it: ?: cat /proc/meminfo | head -n 1 MemTotal: 3913452 kB Somehow, somewhere, I lost 274 MiB. Where did 6% of my memory go? Now I know the address ranges in DMI are incorrect, because the ACPI memory map reports usable ranges well beyond the ending address of the second memory module: ?: dmesg | grep -E "BIOS-e820: .* usable" [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: [mem 0x0000000000000000-0x000000000009e7ff] usable [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: [mem 0x0000000000100000-0x00000000dee7bfff] usable [ 0.000000] BIOS-e820: [mem 0x0000000100000000-0x0000000117ffffff] usable I get pretty much the same info from /proc/iomem (except for the 4 kiB hole 0x000-0xFFF), which also shows that the kernel only accounts for less than 8 MiB. I guess 0x00000000-0x7FFFFFFF is indeed mapped to the first memory module, and 0x80000000-0xDFFFFFFF to part of the second memory module (a bunch of ACPI NVS things live between 0xDEE7C000 and 0xDEF30FFF, and the remaining 16-something MiB of that range are just 'reserved'). I guess the highest 0x18000000 bytes of the second memory module are mapped above the 4 GiB mark. But even then, there are two problems: 128 MiB (0x08000000 bytes, living somewhere between 0xE0000000 and 0xFFFFFFFF) are still completely unaccounted for. To note, my graphics card is on PCI-Express and (allegedly) has 1 GiB dedicated memory, so that shouldn't be the culprit. Did the BIOS screw up in moving the memory, leaving it partially shadowed by MMIO? Even with this mediocre explanation, I only 'found' 128 MiB. But /proc/meminfo is reporting a much larger deficit; where's the other 146 MiB? How does Linux count MemTotal?

• Apache not routing to tomcat on correct Virtual host

  We are looking at moving from Websphere to Tomcat. I'm trying to send traffic to tomcat from apache web server based on the virtual host directives in apache web server. After some playing around I have it sort of working, but I'm noticing that if I have a JKMount directive in the first VirtualHost in apache, all virtualHosts will send to the application server. If I have the JKMount in Virtual hosts further down in the configs, then only that VirtualHost works with the request. For Example, with the configs below here are my symptoms mysite.com/Webapp1/ -- I resolve to the proper application mysite2.com/Webapp1/ -- I resolve to the proper application (bad!) mysite.com/MonitorApp/ -- I resolve to the proper application mysite2.com/MonitorApp/ -- I resolve to the proper application (bad!) mysite.com/Webapp2/ -- I DO NOT get to the app (good) mysite2.com/Webapp2/ -- I resolve to the proper application Here's what my web server virtualhosts look like. <VirtualHost 255.255.255.1:80> ServerName mysite.com ServerAlias aliasmysite.ca ##all our rewrite rules JkMount /Webapp1/* LoadBalanceWorker JKmount /MonitorApp/* LoadBalanceWorker </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 255.255.255.2:80> ServerName mysite2.com ServerAlias aliasmysite2.ca ##all our rewrite rules JkMount /Webapp2/* LoadBalanceWorker </VirtualHost> we are running apache webserver 2.2.10 and tomcat 7.0.29 on Solaris10 I've posted an image of our architecture here. http://imgur.com/IFaA6Rh I HAVE not defined VirtualHosts on Tomcat. • Can't access apache from outsite my local network

  UPDATED: Now, when I type my external ip like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8079, i can access xampp defaults page. But the strange is that when someone else from outside my network, try to access it using the same ip, it doesnt work. I Think it should, because its the external ip. I'm getting crazy. I have tried for hours to access xampp defaults page from outside my local network. My ISP blocks port 80 and 8080. So I changed apache to listen to port 8079 Listen 8079 My local computer ip is 10.1.1.2 I can access the webserver, from any computer on my local network when I type http://10.1.1.2:8079 I also oppended the port 8079 on my modem, as the image shows bellow. (I think i did it right) When apache is running on my computer, if I test the port 8079 at http://canyouseeme.org/ i get the message "Success: I can see your service on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port (8079) Your ISP is not blocking port 8079" If apache is not running I get "Error: I could not see your service on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port (8079) Reason: Connection refused". So, it's clear that the port 8079 is oppened. But when I type xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8079 on google chrome for example, I get Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8079 What can I do to solve this, to allow apache to server the pages? I don't know what else I shoud configure. Please, help me. Thanks.

• Friendly Intranet Addresses

  Relativly new to IIS. I'm attempting to set up multiple sites in my Intranet on one server. The server already has SharePoint Installed on it and has a binding *:80. So when I type //ServerName I get the home page of SharePoint. I get how that works. I set up a new site in IIS and set the Binding to *:30015. On a remote machine if I type //ServerName:30015 in a web browser, I get the new site. Awesome, working as intended. My Questions: Can/How do i set it up so that I can type //DivisionAppName or //Division.AppName and have it resolve itself to //ServerName:30015? Is this something I have to register with my Company's DNS server? I hope not, getting my corprate IT to assist is a nightmare. What I tried: I have added Bindings with the Host Name filled in with both DivisionAppName or Division.AppName and port 30015 but that doesn't seem to work.

• schroot build environment setup how to avoid bind-mount home

  The recent linux distributions such as Fedora and Ubuntu all use chroot environment to make the build. Because when making the build often it needs to install some special tools, and to install to the existing system. Using chroot avoids making any changes to the host system. To set up such a build environment, the first step is to make a chroot. I'm following the setup guide at https://wiki.debian.org/Schroot [wheezy-test] description=Contains the SPICE program aliases=test type=directory directory=/srv/chroot/test users=jsmith root-groups=root script-config=desktop/config personality=linux preserve-environment=true In the host on my setup the /home is on /dev/mapper. When schroot is entered, the same home is bind-mounted. Is there a way to avoid this? I prefer to use a different /home inside chroot. When changing the type from directory to plain, the binding is not performed. However that also loses /proc, /sys, etc. You'd have to manually bind-mount them. That does not seem to be a good solution. If a simple configuration change is unavailable, any idea where the script is for type=directory? Probably I'll manually modify the script. I'm trying to configure to put my website in "/home/websites/public_html/mysite.com/public" As I don´t have SELinux enable, how can I avoid the "403 Forbidden" that I get when trying to access the webpage?   Hello, Im having an issue getting json working with the struts-jquery-plugin-2.1.0 I have included the struts2-json-plugin-2.1.8.1 in my classpath as well. Im sure that I have my struts-jquery-plugin configured correctly because the grid loads, but doesnt load the data its supposed to get from the action class that has been json'ized. The documentation with the json plugin and the struts-jquery plugin leaves ALOT of gaps that I cant even find with examples/tutorials, so I come to the community at stackoverflow. My action class has a property called gridModel thats a List with a basic POJO called Customer. Customer is a pojo with one property, id. I have a factory that supplies the populated List to the actions List property which i mentioned called gridModel.   I have put my elasticsearch server behind a Apache reverse proxy that provides basic authentication. Authenticating to Apache directly from the browser works fine. However, when I use Kibana 3 to access the server, I receive authentication errors. Obviously because no auth headers are sent along with Kibana's Ajax calls. I added the below to elastic-angular-client.js in the Kibana vendor directory to implement authentication quick and dirty. There are quite a few posts available regarding that topic but it appears that in order to solve my problem, it would be necessary to to make some very granular configurations on apache and also make sure that the right stuff is sent from the browser. So I reconsidered the strategy and found a much simpler solution. Just modify the vhost reverse proxy config to move the elastisearch server AND kibana on the same http port. This also adds even better security to Kibana.   I followed exactly what I thought I understood the steps to be in the iPhone Programming Guide for specifying that my app requires telephony (I opened MyApp-info.plist, added a new key called UIRequiredDeviceCapabilties, set the key type to Dictionary, added a new row with key set to "telephony", type Boolean, value YES), and sent my app off to Apple. Lo and behold, eleven days later, I get a message from Apple that it's been rejected for not using the UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities key. WTF? How are you actually supposed to implement this?

  I have a UserControl with a templated grouped listbox with expanders and only want one expander open at any time. I have browsed through the site but haven't found anything except binding the IsExpanded to IsSelected which isn't quite what I want. I am trying to put some code in the Expanded event that would loop through Expanders and close all the ones that aren't the expander passed in the Expanded event. I can't seem to figure out how to get at them. • allow file download to all types of files

  hi i have given my user to upload nay types of files. But my problem is that how can i force user top just download any type of files? Since pdf, jpg and text files are directly viewable to browser. So i want that any type of file should be downloaded to view. Running on php Thanks Avinash
