• Percentage calculation around 0.5 (0.4 = -20% and 0.6 = +20%)

  I'm in a strange situation where I have a value of 0.5 and I want to convert the values from 0.5 to 1 to be a percentage and from 0.5 to 0 to be a negative percentage. As it says in the title 0.4 should be -20%, 0.3 should be -40% and 0.1 should be -80%. I'm sure this is a simple problem, but my mind is just refusing to figure it out :) Can anyone help? :)

• Calculation route length

  Hi, I have a map with about 80 annotations. I would like to do 3 things. 1) From my current location, I would like to know the actual route distance to that position. Not the linear distance. 2) I want to be able to show a list of all the annotations, but for every annotation (having lon/lat) I would like to know the actual route distance from my position to that position. 3) I would like to know the closest annotation to my possition using route distance. Not linear distance. I think the answer to all these three points will be the same. But please keep in mind that I don't want to create a route, I just want to know the distance to the annotation. The steps to calculate the anomalies are following: Monthly premature departures from the long-term (1991-2007) average are obtained. Then standardized by dividing by the standard deviation of monthly temperature. The standardized monthly anomalies are then weighted by multiplying by the fraction of the average temperature for the given month. These weighted anomalies are then summed over 3 month time period. Can you please help me?

  I am working with a distributed application communicating over GPRS. I use UDP packets to send business data and ICMP pings to verify connectivity. And now I have a problem with calculating a traffic for which I will be charged by the provider. I have to consider following factors: UDP payload: that is obvious. UDP overhead: UDP header + IP header = 8 + 20 bytes. ICMP echo request without data: IP header + ICMP payload = 28 bytes. ICMP echo reply: as in 3. Above means that for evey data packet I am charged for payload + 28 bytes and for every ping 56 bytes. Am I right or I am missing/misunderstanding something?

I have two tables, first is ws3600, which holds columns (Date, PressureREL, TemperatureOUT, Dewpoint, ...). Then I have second table, called maxday, which holds columns like DatePressureREL, PressureREL, DateTemperatureOUT, TemperatureOUT,... Now as you can see from an example, I update each column, the question is, is there a faster way? I am asking this, because I am calling MAX twice, first to find the Date for that value and secondly to find the actual value. Now I know that I could write like that: SELECT Date, PressureREL FROM ws3600 WHERE PressureREL = (SELECT MAX(PressureREL) FROM ws3600 WHERE Date >= '" + Date + "') AND Date >= '" + Date + "' ORDER BY Date DESC LIMIT 1 That way I get the Date of the max and the max value at the same time and then update with those values the data in maxday table. But the problem of this solution is, that I have to execute many queries, which as I understand takes alot more time compared to executing one long mysql query because of overhead in sending each query to the server. If there is no better way, which solution beetwen this two should I choose. The first, which only takes one query but is very unoptimized or the second which is beter in terms of optimization, but needs alot more queries which probably means that the preformance gain is lost because of overhead in sending each query to the server?

What am wondering is if there is a faster way for me to calculate the hash of the file? Maybe by doing some multithreading? I used a another script to check the use of the CPU second by second and I see that my code is only using 1 out of my 2 CPUs and only at 25% max, any way I can change this?   Hi, I am trying to duplicate a feature that exists in Multimate (Ashton Tate) word processor. Yes, the one that hasnt been supported for 20 years! If I can duplicate this one feature I can get all the users off MM and onto Word. The thing that MM does really easily is that there is a function key that they can press at any time that will - - jump the cursor from the paragraph they are writing over to the right hand side - create a numeric field - allow them to enter a number into the numeric field - return them to the left hand side to start a new paragraph What MM also does is automatically total the numeric fields on each page and create a subtotal in the page footer. it also creates a total for the entire document and puts this in the footer of the last page. I would like to duplicate this feature in word with a macro, but have no idea where to start. Any suggestions or code would be great, thanks, will.

The question is , Regular expression is the right candidate for do so (or) is there any other way to achieve it?

  I'm using Simple Framework for my recent project, and there is a problem with the date headers generated by the system. I can get my local time from Date class correctly, but setDate method of Simple's Response class sets date in milliseconds and when i do that by calling System.currentTimeInMillis, dates in response headers are incorrect. is there any way to solve this problem with Simple Framework? If not, what can i do except calling set method with a date string? Thanks in advance... EDIT: Date in the headers are in wrong timezone. And i also tried Calendar.getInstance().getTimeInMilis() method.

  I'm utilising some 2d / 3d tracking data (provided by pfHoe) to help integrate some 3d models into the playback of some 2d video. Things are working.... okay... but there's still some visible 'slipping' of the models against the video background and I suspect this is may be because the XNA CreatePerspective helper method isn't taking into account some of the additional data supplied by pfHoe such as independent horizontal / vertical field of view angles and focal length. Would anyone be able to point me towards some examples of constructing view matrices that include such details?

  Hi I have successfully setup paypal IPN on my site and its working fine. From my paypal account I have set options to ass shipping and tax calculations(only if it's Iowa). But the only issue is, on the paypal checkout page it's asking me to enter the "Ship to Zipcode" manually...if I enter and update only then the net payable is getting updated with the shipping and tax charges. Is there any variable via which I could send the ship to zip code which will work directly on the cart and make it auto calculate the charges and show it? I have tried both "zip" and "address_zip" variables. None of them worked. By the way I have multiple items on my cart so I am using the "cart" transaction type. Thanks in advance for your help.

  With .NET, I have "Thursday, April 10, 2008 1:30:00 PM" and I want "dddd, dd MMMM, yyyy h:m:s t", "6:09:01 PM" and want ""hh:mm:ss tt", "Fri 29 Aug" and want "ddd d MMM", and so on. It seems I should be able to use DateTimeFormatInfo in some way. I figured I can format the date with each pattern returned by GetAllDateTimePatterns, and when the original date string and the formated date string match then I have the format. Yet, I want to generate custom formats, not the standard formats. I want the format string. I do not want the date. I have both the DateTime value and the formatted string value for the date. I need <formatString> as in ToString(<formatString>).

• Excel UDF calculation should return 'original' value

  Hi all, I've been struggling with a VBA problem for a while now and I'll try to explain it as thoroughly as possible. I have created a VSTO plugin with my own RTD implementation that I am calling from my Excel sheets. To avoid having to use the full-fledged RTD syntax in the cells, I have created a UDF that hides that API from the sheet. The RTD server I created can be enabled and disabled through a button in a custom Ribbon component. The behavior I want to achieve is as follows: If the server is disabled and a reference to my function is entered in a cell, I want the cell to display Disabled If the server is disabled, but the function had been entered in a cell when it was enabled (and the cell thus displays a value), I want the cell to keep displaying that value If the server is enabled, I want the cell to display Loading Sounds easy enough. Here is an example of the - non functional - code: Public Function RetrieveData(id as Long) Dim result as String // This returns either 'Disabled' or 'Loading' result = Application.Worksheet.Function.RTD("SERVERNAME", "", id) RetrieveData = result If(result = "Disabled") Then // Obviously, this recurses (and fails), so that's not an option If(Not IsEmpty(Application.Caller.Value2)) Then // So does this RetrieveData = Application.Caller.Value2 End If End If End Function The function will be called in thousands of cells, so storing the 'original' values in another data structure would be a major overhead and I would like to avoid it. Also, the RTD server does not know the values, since it also does not keep a history of it, more or less for the same reason. I was thinking that there might be some way to exit the function which would force it to not change the displayed value, but so far I have been unable to find anything like that. Any ideas on how to solve this are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Che EDIT: By popular demand, some additional info on why I want to do all this: As I said, the function will be called in thousands of cells and the RTD server needs to retrieve quite a bit of information. This can be quite hard on both network and CPU. To allow the user to decide for himself whether he wants this load on his machine, he or she can disable the updates from the server. In that case, he or she should still be able to calculate the sheets with the values currently in the fields, yet no updates are pushed into them. Once new data is required, the server can be enabled and the fields will be updated. Again, since we are talking about quite a bit of data here, I would rather not store it somewhere in the sheet. Plus, the data should be usable even if the workbook is closed and loaded again.
