  • Mass renaming, *nix version

    I was looking for a way to rename a huge number of similarly-named files, much like this one (a Windows-related question) except that I'm using *nix (Ubuntu and FreeBSD, separately). Just to sum up, while using the shell (Bash, CSH, etc.) how do I mass-rename a number of files such that, for example, the following files: Beethoven - Fur Elise.mp3 Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata.mp3 Beethoven - Ode to Joy.mp3 Beethoven - Rage Over the Lost Penny.mp3 will be renamed like these? Fur Elise.mp3 Moonlight Sonata.mp3 Ode to Joy.mp3 Rage Over the Lost Penny.mp3 The reason I want to do this is that these collection of files will go under a directory named "Beethoven" (i.e. the filenames' prefix), and having this information on the filename itself will be redundant.

  • Problems using InfraRecorder to back up ISOs of certain CDs

    I've gotten into the habit of backing up my CDs as ISO files, just in case the discs should be damanged, lost, or destroyed. Using InfraRecorder, the process is pretty painless. Unfortunately, I have run into at least two discs that don't back up. I get the error message: Can't read source disc. Retrying from sector 252270 Sometimes this will appear repeatedly. One of the discs is my retail copy of Star Trek: Armada II; the other is disc one of DOOM 3. Both discs run flawlessly when I put them in the drive and let Windows AutoPlay them. Armada II appears as two tracks (one data, one audio) in InfraRecorder, and the error happens at the approximate track boundary. DOOM 3's first disc, however, fails much sooner (around sector 990) and appears as one solid data track. Am I simply using the wrong tools for this job? InfraRecorder is a nice free tool that I can run from my flash drive and use for most tasks of this type, but it does seem to have trouble with certain things. Ideally I'd like to hear about any workarounds people have found for this issue, but if I must switch tools I'm open to it (preferably other free tools).

  • BIOS and Windows cannot detect CDROM device

    Hello! I have a HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4521B dvdrom device and a big problem. Some days ago everything worked fine. A friend installed some software and then the drives in winxp has been marked as corrupt. I uninstalled the software, but still corrupt drives. The next step I have done was running the current software GCC-4521B101(E).exe. When I ran this software again, the drives was automatically updated, but still marked as corrupt (in the Device Manager), even if I did a reboot. And then the big mistake: once more I tried to run this software, but during the update process, the machine restarted and boom! The DVDROM device doesn't work anymore. The led doesn't blink and if I push the eject button, nothing happens. Also bios and winxp doesn't recognize the optical drive. Then I plugged an other optical drive and it worked, but my old drive seems to be dead. So, what happened and how to solve this problem? Please help. Regards!

    How would i enable Autoplay to prompt in Windows XP? I have tried the following things: right clicking the drive and selecting autoplay and have the radio button for prompt checked. I have tried Microsoft's autofix.exe as well. Neither have done the trick. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/CDROM there is an Autorun - REG_DWORD_0x00000001 (1). Thanks

  • Need to automount dvd or cdrom at fixed mount point in Ubuntu 11.04

    Ubuntu 11.04, by default, automounts a cdrom or dvd at /media/<vol_name>. I need to make the automounting system use a fixed name instead of the volume name for all CDs or DVDs inserted into this particular drive, e.g. "/media/op-drive0". A bit of searching turns up pretty much the same solution I used, successfully, on an older, gentoo box, which is to create an fdi file for hal, along the lines of the instructions at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=91450. This doesn't seem to work on this box. Other sources say to use the gnome-mount utility to set the mounting properties. Ubuntu 11.04 doesn't know about the gnome-mount program. Any ideas?

  • Removing specific part of filename (what's after the second dash) for all files in a folder

    I use the command line utility youtube-dl to download videos from YouTube and make mp3s from them with avconv. I'm doing this under Ubuntu 14.04 and very happy with it. The utility downloads the files and saves them with the following name scheme: TITLE(artist-track)-ID.mp3 So an actual filename looks like: EPIC RAP BATTLE of MANLINESS-_EzDRpkfaO4.mp3 Some other file names in the folder look like: EPIC RAP BATTLE of MANLINESS-_EzDRpkfaO4.mp3 Martin Garrix - Animals (Official Video)-gCYcHz2k5x0.mp3 Stromae - Papaoutai-oiKj0Z_Xnjc.mp3 At first, this was no problem. It didn't bother me while listening to my music in Rhytmbox. But when moving to phone or other devices it is pretty confusing to see a so long name, and some players, like the Samsung ones, treat that last part (id after second dash) of the name as Album or something. I'd like to create a bash script that removes what's after the second dash in the name for all files, so it'll make them like this: From: Martin Garrix - Animals (Official Video)-gCYcHz2k5x0.mp3 To: Martin Garrix - Animals (Official Video).mp3 Is it also possible to instruct youtube-dl to exclude the ID from now on? I am currently downloading with the command: youtube-dl --extract-audio --audio-quality 0 --audio-format mp3 URL

  • Nodejs: Change working directory when running node bin script

    I am trying to change the working directory when my nodejs script is run from a bin script. So simplified I have something like: #!/usr/bin/env node process.cd('/Users') When I then run this command like ./bin/nodefile it exits but stays in the same directory it started in. I have also tried shelljs, What is the best way to do this? I understand it's working but it's just in a separate process. Thanks.

  • Hard-drive will randomly fail to load GRUB. Booting a live USB/CD fixes the issue temporarily

    I am running 12.04 64-bit and am dual booting with Win7, for full disclosure, although I suspect that has nothing to do with my problem. Occasionally the boot-loader(GRUB) will fail to load and I will be presented with a black screen with a single blinking line. There is no apparent pattern although I suspect there is one and it is related to a program I am running. This has happened to me eight out of ten power cycles now and I can fix it consistently, however, I have no idea why it happens. My current fix is to boot a live CD (I've tried both KNOPPIX and Ubuntu with the same result) and that's it. Somehow booting with the live CD is enough to "wake-up" my hard drive. I then reboot and GRUB magically appears again. So what is going on? Is it possible that a program is corrupting my MBR and the live CD is restoring it? How can I narrow down the possibilities? Thanks. Additional: This is still a problem. I'm convinced now that it is not hardware related as I've spent the last month and several boot cycles on Windows without a hiccup. Recently when I started using Ubuntu again the problem started again. I am more interested in figuring out what is going on rather than actually fixing the problem. Are there any tools, logs, etc. I can use to unravel this mystery?

  • Processing file uploads before object is saved

    I've got a model like this: class Talk(BaseModel): title = models.CharField(max_length=200) mp3 = models.FileField(upload_to = u'talks/', max_length=200) seconds = models.IntegerField(blank = True, null = True) I want to validate before saving that the uploaded file is an MP3, like this: def is_mp3(path_to_file): from mutagen.mp3 import MP3 audio = MP3(path_to_file) return not audio.info.sketchy Once I'm sure I've got an MP3, I want to save the length of the talk in the seconds attribute, like this: audio = MP3(path_to_file) self.seconds = audio.info.length The problem is, before saving, the uploaded file doesn't have a path (see this ticket, closed as wontfix), so I can't process the MP3. I'd like to raise a nice validation error so that ModelForms can display a helpful error ("You idiot, you didn't upload an MP3" or something). Any idea how I can go about accessing the file before it's saved? p.s. If anyone knows a better way of validating files are MP3s I'm all ears - I also want to be able to mess around with ID3 data (set the artist, album, title and probably album art, so I need it to be processable by mutagen).

    I have 3-4 years worth of notes on proper Teradata deployment across multiple operating systems.   The topic that is too large to cover succinctly in a blog entry.   I'm trying something new:  document a specific situation, consolidate the facts, document diagnostic procedures and then clone the structure to cover other obiee deployments (11g and other operating systems). Until the icon below is removed, this blog entry may be revised frequently.  No construction between June 6th through June 25th. Getting started obiee 10g certification:  pg 24-25 Teradata V2R5.1.x - V2R6.2, Client 13.10, certified 10.1.3.4.1obiee 10g documentation: Deployment Guide, Server Administration, Install/Config Guideobiee overview: teradata connectivity downloads: ( requires registration )solaris odbc drivers: sparc 13.10:  Choose 13.10.00.04  ( ReadMe ) sparc 14.00: probably would work, but not certified by Oracle on 10g I assume you have obiee 10.1.3.4.1 installed; 10.1.3.4.2 would be a better choice. Teradata odbc install requires root for Solaris pkgadd Only 1 version of Teradata odbc can be installed.symbolic links to the current version are created in /usr/lib at install obiee implementation background database access has two types of implementation:  native and odbcnative drivers use DB vendor client interfaces for accessodbc drivers are provided by the DB vendor for DB accessTeradata is an odbc interface Database. odbc drivers require an ODBC Driver Managerobiee uses Merant Data Direct driver manager obiee servers communicate with one another using odbc.The internal odbc driver is implemented by the obiee team and requires Merant Driver Manager.     I downloaded the XAMPP .run file from Apacheandfriends but the installation isn't working for me.   • C# WinForms: How to load an image, then wait a few seconds, then play a mp3 sound ?

    Hello everybody, (after pressing a button) i would like to show an image (using a picturebox), wait a few seconds and then play a mp3 sound, but i dont get it to work. To wait a few seconds i use "System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000)". The problem is, the image alway appears AFTER the wait time, but i want it to show first, then wait, then play the mp3... i tried to use "WaitOnLoad = true" but it doesnt work, shouldn't it load the image first and the continue to read the next code line ?? Here is the code i've tried, that doesnt work: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { pictureBox1.WaitOnLoad = true; pictureBox1.Load("image.jpg"); System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000); MessageBox.Show("test"); //just to test, here should be the code to play the mp3 } (i also tried loading the image with "LoadAsync" and put the code to wait and play the mp3 in the "LoadCompleted" event, but that doesnt work either...) would be very nice if somebody helps me

    I'm very new to flash and as3 design patterns. But I can read and write as3 quite ok, i've created small widgets with that. I've developed several web sites using php and also python. Now for a educational cd-rom project i'm working on, i've basically designed all templates (A home page, a generic page with navigation and a sidebar - kind of like a wordpress blog). I have all the data for the cdrom on word files, which i intend to place on xml files. My question is what is the best way to start a project like this? Can anyone guide me to a template or something that can be used for kickstarting this? kind of like a wordpress (without the admin)? Or am i on this all wrong? Can someone please help

    I have a variable MediaElement variable named TestAudio in my Silverlight app. When I click the button, it plays the audio correctly. But when I click the button again, it does not play the audio. How can I make the MediaElement play a second time?     I started my emulator with ./emulator -trace profile -avd emulator_15. I then tracked down the trace files to ~/.android/avd/rodgers_emulator_15.avd/traces/profile, where there are six files: qtrace.bb, qtrace.exc, qtrace.insn, qtrace.method, qtrace.pid, qtrace.static. I can't figure out what to do with these files. I've tried both dmtracedump and traceview on all of the files, but none seem to generate any output I can do anything with. How can I view the proportion of time taken by native method calls on Android?
