  • referencing (this) in a function

    - by Sara Chipps
I have elements being generated by dynamic html, I would like to reference the particular href that is calling the function when one of many may be calling it. <a href="javascript:Foo(this)">Link</a> Does not work when I try to reference $(this). Is there another way to do this or do I have to make dynamic ids?

  • What is DEFAULT_CC in function declaration?

    - by humoeba
I'm relatively new to C, and am curious what this syntax means in a function declaration: int DEFAULT_CC foo(void) where DEFAULT_CC is probably defined somewhere else as: #define DEFAULT_CC "cc" Is this a direction to use a certain compiler or something?

Hello, In a C struct I have defined a function pointer as follows: typedef struct _sequence_t { const int seq[3]; typedef void (* callbackPtr)(); } sequence_t; I want to initialize a var of that type globally with: sequence_t sequences[] = { { { 0, 1, 2 }, toggleArmament }, }; And I keep getting error telling me that there are too many initializers. How to work it out?

  • keeping track of multiple runs of the same function, part 2

    - by qwertymk
This is related to this Anyway what I need is actually something slightly different I need some way of doing this: function run(arg) { this.ran = this.ran || false; if (!this.ran) init; /* code */ this.ran = true; } This works fine, I just want to make sure that this code works even when this in case it was called with call() or apply() Check this out for what I'm talking about, All of the calls after the first one should all be true, no matter the context

  • Closure vs Anonymous function (difference?)

    - by Maxim Gershkovich
Hi, I have been unable to find a definition that clearly explains the differences between a closure and an anonymous function. Most references I have seen clearly specify that they are distinct "things" yet I can't seem to get my head around why. Could someone please simplify it for me? What are the specific differences between these two language features? Which one is more appropriate in what scenarios?

  • Skin Object Tokens for DotNetNuke 5 - 8 Videos

In this tutorial we demonstrate how to use Skin Object Tokens in DotNetNuke v5 and above. Skin Object tokens are a new skinning method introduced in DotNetNuke 5 for adding tokens into a DotNetNuke skin. A Skin Object Token is a web user control, it covers skin elements such as the logo, menu, search, login links, date, copyright, languages, links, banners, privacy, terms of use etc. This new Object token method has been introduced into DotNetNuke with the idea of making it simpler to add a skin object into a DotNetNuke skin. The videos contain: Video 1 - Introduction to HTML Object Token Skinning Video 2 - Basic Styling of a Skin and Creating Multiple Content Panes Video 3 - Styling, Control Panel, Login and Register Skin Object Tokens Video 4 - Packaging, Installing, Testing and Viewing the ASCX Version of the Skin Video 5 - Viewing the Attributes for Skin Object Tokens, Logo Token, Search Token Video 6 - Breadcrumb Token, Text Token and Localization, Links Token Video 7 - More Skin Tokens and Token Replacement Video 8 - Demonstration of the Object Tokens and Bug Fixing Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.

  • SQL Server Split() Function

    - by HighAltitudeCoder
Title goes here   Ever wanted a dbo.Split() function, but not had the time to debug it completely?  Let me guess - you are probably working on a stored procedure with 50 or more parameters; two or three of them are parameters of differing types, while the other 47 or so all of the same type (id1, id2, id3, id4, id5...).  Worse, you've found several other similar stored procedures with the ONLY DIFFERENCE being the number of like parameters taped to the end of the parameter list. If this is the situation you find yourself in now, you may be wondering, "why am I working with three different copies of what is basically the same stored procedure, and why am I having to maintain changes in three different places?  Can't I have one stored procedure that accomplishes the job of all three? My answer to you: YES!  Here is the Split() function I've created.    /******************************************************************************                                       Split.sql   ******************************************************************************/ /******************************************************************************   Split a delimited string into sub-components and return them as a table.   Parameter 1: Input string which is to be split into parts. Parameter 2: Delimiter which determines the split points in input string. Works with space or spaces as delimiter. Split() is apostrophe-safe.   SYNTAX: SELECT * FROM Split('Dvorak,Debussy,Chopin,Holst', ',') SELECT * FROM Split('Denver|Seattle|San Diego|New York', '|') SELECT * FROM Split('Denver is the super-awesomest city of them all.', ' ')   ******************************************************************************/ USE AdventureWorks GO   IF EXISTS       (SELECT *       FROM sysobjects       WHERE xtype = 'TF'       AND name = 'Split'       ) BEGIN       DROP FUNCTION Split END GO   CREATE FUNCTION Split (       @InputString                  VARCHAR(8000),       @Delimiter                    VARCHAR(50) )   RETURNS @Items TABLE (       Item                          VARCHAR(8000) )   AS BEGIN       IF @Delimiter = ' '       BEGIN             SET @Delimiter = ','             SET @InputString = REPLACE(@InputString, ' ', @Delimiter)       END         IF (@Delimiter IS NULL OR @Delimiter = '')             SET @Delimiter = ','   --INSERT INTO @Items VALUES (@Delimiter) -- Diagnostic --INSERT INTO @Items VALUES (@InputString) -- Diagnostic         DECLARE @Item                 VARCHAR(8000)       DECLARE @ItemList       VARCHAR(8000)       DECLARE @DelimIndex     INT         SET @ItemList = @InputString       SET @DelimIndex = CHARINDEX(@Delimiter, @ItemList, 0)       WHILE (@DelimIndex != 0)       BEGIN             SET @Item = SUBSTRING(@ItemList, 0, @DelimIndex)             INSERT INTO @Items VALUES (@Item)               -- Set @ItemList = @ItemList minus one less item             SET @ItemList = SUBSTRING(@ItemList, @DelimIndex+1, LEN(@ItemList)-@DelimIndex)             SET @DelimIndex = CHARINDEX(@Delimiter, @ItemList, 0)       END -- End WHILE         IF @Item IS NOT NULL -- At least one delimiter was encountered in @InputString       BEGIN             SET @Item = @ItemList             INSERT INTO @Items VALUES (@Item)       END         -- No delimiters were encountered in @InputString, so just return @InputString       ELSE INSERT INTO @Items VALUES (@InputString)         RETURN   END -- End Function GO   ---- Set Permissions --GRANT SELECT ON Split TO UserRole1 --GRANT SELECT ON Split TO UserRole2 --GO   The syntax is basically as follows: SELECT <fields> FROM Table 1 JOIN Table 2 ON ... JOIN Table 3 ON ... WHERE LOGICAL CONDITION A AND LOGICAL CONDITION B AND LOGICAL CONDITION C AND TABLE2.Id IN (SELECT * FROM Split(@IdList, ',')) @IdList is a parameter passed into the stored procedure, and the comma (',') is the delimiter you have chosen to split the parameter list on. You can also use it like this: SELECT <fields> FROM Table 1 JOIN Table 2 ON ... JOIN Table 3 ON ... WHERE LOGICAL CONDITION A AND LOGICAL CONDITION B AND LOGICAL CONDITION C HAVING COUNT(SELECT * FROM Split(@IdList, ',') Similarly, it can be used in other aggregate functions at run-time: SELECT MIN(SELECT * FROM Split(@IdList, ','), <fields> FROM Table 1 JOIN Table 2 ON ... JOIN Table 3 ON ... WHERE LOGICAL CONDITION A AND LOGICAL CONDITION B AND LOGICAL CONDITION C GROUP BY <fields> Now that I've (hopefully effectively) explained the benefits to using this function and implementing it in one or more of your database objects, let me warn you of a caveat that you are likely to encounter.  You may have a team member who waits until the right moment to ask you a pointed question: "Doesn't this function just do the same thing as using the IN function?  Why didn't you just use that instead?  In other words, why bother with this function?" What's happening is, one or more team members has failed to understand the reason for implementing this kind of function in the first place.  (Note: this is THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THIS POST). Allow me to outline a few pros to implementing this function, so you may effectively parry this question.  Touche. 1) Code consolidation.  You don't have to maintain what is basically the same code and logic, but with varying numbers of the same parameter in several SQL objects.  I'm not going to go into the cons related to using this function, because the afore mentioned team member is probably more than adept at pointing these out.  Remember, the real positive contribution is ou are decreasing the liklihood that your team fails to update all (x) duplicate copies of what are basically the same stored procedure, and so on...  This is the classic downside to duplicate code.  It is a virus, and you should kill it. You might be better off rejecting your team member's question, and responding with your own: "Would you rather maintain the same logic in multiple different stored procedures, and hope that the team doesn't forget to always update all of them at the same time?".  In his head, he might be thinking "yes, I would like to maintain several different copies of the same stored procedure", although you probably will not get such a direct response.  2) Added flexibility - you can use the Split function elsewhere, and for splitting your data in different ways.  Plus, you can use any kind of delimiter you wish.  How can you know today the ways in which you might want to examine your data tomorrow?  Segue to my next point. 3) Because the function takes a delimiter parameter, you can split the data in any number of ways.  This greatly increases the utility of such a function and enables your team to work with the data in a variety of different ways in the future.  You can split on a single char, symbol, word, or group of words.  You can split on spaces.  (The list goes on... test it out). Finally, you can dynamically define the behavior of a stored procedure (or other SQL object) at run time, through the use of this function.  Rather than have several objects that accomplish almost the same thing, why not have only one instead?

  • Multi-statement Table Valued Function vs Inline Table Valued Function

    - by AndyC
ie: CREATE FUNCTION MyNS.GetUnshippedOrders() RETURNS TABLE AS RETURN SELECT a.SaleId, a.CustomerID, b.Qty FROM Sales.Sales a INNER JOIN Sales.SaleDetail b ON a.SaleId = b.SaleId INNER JOIN Production.Product c ON b.ProductID = c.ProductID WHERE a.ShipDate IS NULL GO versus: CREATE FUNCTION MyNS.GetLastShipped(@CustomerID INT) RETURNS @CustomerOrder TABLE (SaleOrderID INT NOT NULL, CustomerID INT NOT NULL, OrderDate DATETIME NOT NULL, OrderQty INT NOT NULL) AS BEGIN DECLARE @MaxDate DATETIME SELECT @MaxDate = MAX(OrderDate) FROM Sales.SalesOrderHeader WHERE CustomerID = @CustomerID INSERT @CustomerOrder SELECT a.SalesOrderID, a.CustomerID, a.OrderDate, b.OrderQty FROM Sales.SalesOrderHeader a INNER JOIN Sales.SalesOrderHeader b ON a.SalesOrderID = b.SalesOrderID INNER JOIN Production.Product c ON b.ProductID = c.ProductID WHERE a.OrderDate = @MaxDate AND a.CustomerID = @CustomerID RETURN END GO Is there an advantage to using one over the other? Is there certain scenarios when one is better than the other or are the differences purely syntactical? I realise the 2 example queries are doing different things but is there a reason I would write them in that way? Reading about them and the advantages/differences haven't really been explained. Thanks

  • Object Oriented Design Questions

    - by Robert
Hello there. I am going to develop a Tic-Tac-Toe game using Java(or maybe other OO Languages). Now I have a picture in my mind about the general design. Interface: Player ,then I will be able to implement a couple of Player classes, based on how I want the opponent to be,for example, random player, intelligent player. Classes: Board class, with a two-dimensional array of integers,0 indicates open,1 indicates me,-1 indicates opponent. The evaluation function will be in here as well,to return the next best move based on the current board arrangement and whose turn it is. Refree class, which will create instance of the Board and two player instances, then get the game begin. This is a rough idea of my OO design, could anybody give me any critiques please,I find this is really beneficial, thank you very much.

    - by Eric
Hello, I'm using Sharepoint 2010 Object Model. I'm trying to retrive the content of a Custom List. Everything works fine except if when I try to retrieve a Choice Field. When I try to retrieve the choice field, I got an PropertyOrFieldNotInitializedException exception... Here is the code I'm using: ClientContext clientContext = new ClientContext("https://mysite"); clientContext.FormsAuthenticationLoginInfo = new FormsAuthenticationLoginInfo("aaa", bbb"); clientContext.AuthenticationMode = ClientAuthenticationMode.FormsAuthentication; List list = clientContext.Web.Lists.GetByTitle("mylist"); CamlQuery camlQuery = new CamlQuery(); camlQuery.ViewXml = "<View/>"; ListItemCollection listItems = list.GetItems(camlQuery); clientContext.Load(listItems); clientContext.ExecuteQuery(); foreach (ListItem listItem in listItems) { listBoxControl1.Items.Add(listItem["Assigned_x0020_Company"]); } Thank you for you help! • SQL SERVER – Find Weekend and Weekdays from Datetime in SQL Server 2012

    - by pinaldave
Yesterday we had very first SQL Bangalore User Group meeting and I was asked following question right after the session. “How do we know if today is a weekend or weekday using SQL Server Functions?” Well, I assume most of us are using SQL Server 2012 so I will suggest following solution. I am using SQL Server 2012′s CHOOSE function. It is SELECT GETDATE() Today, DATENAME(dw, GETDATE()) DayofWeek, CHOOSE(DATEPART(dw, GETDATE()), 'WEEKEND','Weekday', 'Weekday','Weekday','Weekday','Weekday','WEEKEND') WorkDay GO You can use the choose function on table as well. Here is the quick example of the same. USE AdventureWorks2012 GO SELECT A.ModifiedDate, DATENAME(dw, A.ModifiedDate) DayofWeek, CHOOSE(DATEPART(dw, A.ModifiedDate), 'WEEKEND','Weekday', 'Weekday','Weekday','Weekday','Weekday','WEEKEND') WorkDay FROM [Person].[Address] A GO If you are using an earlier version of the SQL Server you can use a CASE statement instead of CHOOSE function. Please read my earlier article which discusses CHOOSE function and CASE statements. Logical Function – CHOOSE() – A Quick Introduction Reference:  Pinal Dave (http://blog.SQLAuthority.com) Filed under: PostADay, SQL, SQL Authority, SQL DateTime, SQL Function, SQL Query, SQL Server, SQL Tips and Tricks, T SQL, Technology
