• C++ object in memory

  Hello. Is there a standard in storing a C++ objects in memory? I wish to set a char* pointer to a certain address in memory, so that I can read certain objects' variables directly from the memory byte by byte. When I am using Dev C++, the variables are stored one by one right in the memory address of an object in the order that they were defined. Now, can it be different while using a different compiler (like the variables being in a different order, or somewhere else)? Thank you in advance. :-)

  I have a SpecialisedRedBlackTree class that is templated. My Month class is not. In my Month class I have a private member which is an instance of SpecialisedRedBlackTree: SpecialisedRedBlackTree<Day> m_windSpeedTree; As you can see it will take the Day class/object (please correct me on any terms I get wrong). In my Month class, I have a method passing a method function pointer to this method: bool Month::CompareWindSpeed(Day a, Day b) { return ( a.GetData(WIND_SPEED_CODE) < b.GetData(WIND_SPEED_CODE)? true : false); } bool (Month::*myFuncPtr)(Day, Day); myFuncPtr = &Month::CompareWindSpeed; m_windSpeedTree.Insert(dayReading, myFuncPtr); But because I am passing a bool (Day, Day) pointer to a templated class expecting bool (T, T) T being part of this .... template Error 1 error C2664: 'SpecialisedRedBlackTree<T>::Insert' : cannot convert parameter 2 from 'bool (__thiscall Month::* )(Day,Day)' to 'bool (__cdecl *)(T,T)' Any advice?

• Is there an ORM with APIs to be used programatically?

  Hello. Neither did not get any response for my previous question, nor enough views :) So here I am now framing my query afresh. Is there any ORM that offers APIs to be used programatically? In my situation, a user will be helped through a wizard to define some entities. Thereafter those entites will be created in a database in form of tables (there will of course be some improvization). I need an ORM that offers APIs for modeling and creating entities during application runtime and not just during design time. Mine is a .Net application, therefore I was looking at Entity Framework. However, to me it looked tied to Visual Studio (I may be wrong also as I am new to it). Any recommendations? Or alternative point of view?

• Is there anything wrong with a class with all static methods?

  I'm doing code review and came across a class that uses all static methods. The entrance method takes several arguments and then starts calling the other static methods passing along all or some of the arguments the entrance method received. It isn't like a Math class with largely unrelated utility functions. In my own normal programming, I rarely write methods where Resharper pops and says "this could be a static method", when I do, they tend to be mindless utility methods. Is there anything wrong with this pattern? Is this just a matter of personal choice if the state of a class is held in fields and properties or passed around amongst static methods using arguments?

  iOS 4: I have entities in Core Data (using SQLite, which is a requirement) of: Request Response (which has a property personId) Revision Relationships are: Request <-- Revision Request <-- Response Revision <-- Response (e.g. each request may have many responses; each request/response pair may have many revisions) I'm trying to do a predicate to get all Responses with a given personId that have zero Revisions. Using: (personId == %d) && (Request.Revision[SIZE] == 0) in my predicate string gives me a runtime exception "Unsupported function expression Request.Revision[SIZE]" The documentation seems pretty sparse on aggregate functions, only noting that they exist, but with no syntax or examples. Not sure if it's my syntax or if the SIZE function really isn't supported in iOS.

  Is there a way to pass the current state of a function into another function in C/C++? I mean all the parameters and local variables by current state. For example: void funcA (int a, int b) { char c; int d, e; // Do something with the variables. // ... funcB(); // Do something more. } void funcB() { // funcB() should be able to access variables a,b,c,d & e // and any change in these variables reflect into funcA(). } The code is in bad shape if there is a need for funcB() kind of functions. But can it be achieved? This can help if someone is starting to re-factor a long method with multiple parameters.

• A function where small changes in input always result in large changes in output

  I would like an algorithm for a function that takes n integers and returns one integer. For small changes in the input, the resulting integer should vary greatly. Even though I've taken a number of courses in math, I have not used that knowledge very much and now I need some help... An important property of this function should be that if it is used with coordinate pairs as input and the result is plotted (as a grayscale value for example) on an image, any repeating patterns should only be visible if the image is very big. I have experimented with various algorithms for pseudo-random numbers with little success and finally it struck me that md5 almost meets my criteria, except that it is not for numbers (at least not from what I know). That resulted in something like this Python prototype (for n = 2, it could easily be changed to take a list of integers of course): import hashlib def uniqnum(x, y): return int(hashlib.md5(str(x) + ',' + str(y)).hexdigest()[-6:], 16) But obviously it feels wrong to go over strings when both input and output are integers. What would be a good replacement for this implementation (in pseudo-code, python, or whatever language)?

• PHP functions wont work with String object, but works with it typed manually

  Hi, I'm trying to strip tags from a text output coming from an object. The problem is, that I can't. If I type it manually like "<p>http://www.mylink.com</p>", it works fine! When doing echo $item->text; it gives me the same string "<p>http://www.mylink.com</p>"; Doing var_dump or even gettype, gives me a string(). So, I'm sure its a string, but it's not acting like it, I tried several functions preg_replace, preg_match, strip_Tags, none worked. • Where should I put contextual data related to an Object that is not really a property of the object?

  I have a Car class. It has three properties: id, color and model. In a particular query I want to return all the cars and their properties, and I also want to return a true/false field called "searcherKnowsOwner" which is a field I calculate in my database query based on whether or not the individual conducting the search knows the owner. I have a database function that takes the ID of the searcher and the ID of the car and returns a boolean. My car class looks like this (pseudocode): class Car{ int id; Color color; Model model; } I have a screen where I want to display all the cars, but I also want to display a flag next to each car if the person viewing the page knows the owner of that car. Should I add a field to the Car class, a boolean searcherKnowsOwner? It's not a property of the car, but is actually a property of the user conducting the search. But this seems like the most efficient place to put this information.

  I am trying to create (4) Select elements within a form element. Each select element has a different number of options. So if a user click one option on Select #1 and then click another option on Select #2, after hitting submit they will be taken to www.blah.com/option1/option2 page which will display the filtered results. Or they can chose an option from all 4 select menus and be taken to option1/option2/option3/option4 page. The categories are all related .Select #1 is a category, Select #2 is a subcategory of 1, Select #3 is a subcategory of #2 and Select #4 is a subcategory of #3. A great example would be on (LINK) http://www.safavieh.com/rugs (LINK) except only four Select elements. I would also like to add the "Reset" button next to "Submit." I know I need to construct a function in my header and use onSubmit attribute within the form but other than that I am unsure of what's involved so I'm hoping someone could point me in the right direction.   Hello, I'm writing (well, completing) an "extension" of Java which will help role programming. I translate my code to Java code with javacc. My compilers add to every declared class some code. Here's an example to be clearer: MyClass extends String implements ObjectWithRoles { //implements... is added /*Added by me */ public setRole(...){...} public ... /*Ends of stuff added*/ ...//myClass stuff } It adds Implements.. and the necessary methods to EVERY SINGLE CLASS you declare. Quite rough, isnt'it? It will be better if I write my methods in one class and all class extends that.. but.. if class already extends another class (just like the example)? I don't want to create a sort of wrapper that manage roles because i don't want that the programmer has to know much more than Java, few new reserved words and their use. • php OOP function declarations

  I'm a big fan of OOP in php, but i feel like defining class methods gets disorganized so fast. I have a pretty good background in OOP in C++, and i am pretty comfortable with how it is handled there, and am curious if there are ways to do it similarly in php. To be more specific, here is what i mean. I like how in C++ you can define a class header (myclass.h) and then define the actual details of the functions in the implementation file (myclass.cc). Ive found that this can easily be replicated using interfaces in php, but i havent found a good solution for the following: I like to organize my code in C++ in different files based on how they are accessed, so for example, public methods that can be called outside of the class would be in 1 place, and private methods would be organized somewhere else - this is personal preference. Ive tried to define class methods in php like: private function MyPHPClass::myFunction(){ } when the definition isnt directly inside the class block( { } ), but i havent had any success doing this. Ive been through all of the pages on php.net, but couldnt find anything like this. Im assuming that there is no support for something like this, but thought i would ask anyway. thanks
