  • how to print map value in gdb

    - by Davit Siradeghyan
Hi all I have a std::map< std::string, std::string cont; I want to see cont[ "some_key" ] in gdb. When I'm trying p cont[ "some_ket" ] I'm getting this message: One of the arguments you tried to pass to operator[] could not be converted to what the function wants. I'm using GNU gdb Red Hat Linux (6.3.0.0-1.162.el4rh). Thanks

  • what type of bug causes a program to slowly use more processor power and all of a sudden go to 100%?

    - by reinier
Hi, I was hoping to get some good ideas as to what might be causing a really nasty bug. This is a program which is transmitting data over a socket, and also receives messages back. I could explain lots more, but I don't think this will help here. I'm just searching for hypothetical problems which can cause the following behaviour: program runs processor time slowly accumulates (till around 60%) all of a sudden (could be after 30 but also after 60 seconds) the processor time shoots to 100%. the program halts completely In my syslog it always ends on one line with a memory allocation (something similar to: myArray = new byte[16384]) in the same thread. now here is the weird part: if I set the debugger anywhere...it immediately stops on that line. So just the act of setting a breakpoint, made the thread continue (it wasn't running since I saw no log output anymore) I was thinking 'deadlock' but that would not cause 100% processor power. If anything, the opposite. Also, setting a breakpoint would not cause a deadlock to end. anyone else a theoretical suggestion as to what kind of 'construct' might cause this effect? (apart from 'bad programming') ;^) thanks EDIT: I just noticed.... by setting the sendspeed slower, the problem shows itself much later than expected. I would think around the same amount of packets send...but no the amount of packets send is much higher this way before it has the same problem.

  • Unable to change the value of the variable

    - by Legend
I'm using a discrete event simulator called ns-2 that was built using Tcl and C++. I was trying to write some code in TCL: set ns [new Simulator] set state 0 $ns at 0.0 "puts \"At 0.0 value of state is: $state\"" $ns at 1.0 "changeVal" $ns at 2.0 "puts \"At 2.0 values of state is: $state\"" proc changeVal {} { global state global ns $ns at-now "set state [expr $state+1]" puts "Changed value of state to $state" } $ns run Here's the output: At 0.0 value of state is: 0 Changed value of state to 0 At 2.0 values of state is: 0 The value of state does not seem to change. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong in using TCL. Anyone has an idea as to what might be going wrong here? EDIT: Thanks for the help. Actually, ns-2 is something over which I do not have much control (unless I recompile the simulator itself). I tried out the suggestions and here's the output: for the code: set ns [new Simulator] set state 0 $ns at 0.0 "puts \"At 0.0 value of state is: $state\"" $ns at 1.0 "changeVal" $ns at 9.0 "puts \"At 2.0 values of state is: $state\"" proc changeVal {} { global ns set ::state [expr {$::state+1}] $ns at-now "puts \"At [$ns now] changed value of state to $::state\"" } $ns run the output is: At 0.0 value of state is: 0 At 1 changed value of state to 1 At 2.0 values of state is: 0 And for the code: set ns [new Simulator] set state 0 $ns at 0.0 "puts \"At 0.0 value of state is: $state\"" $ns at 1.0 "changeVal" $ns at 9.0 "puts \"At 2.0 values of state is: $state\"" proc changeVal {} { global ns set ::state [expr {$::state+1}] $ns at 1.0 {puts "At 1.0 values of state is: $::state"} } $ns run the output is: At 0.0 value of state is: 0 At 1.0 values of state is: 1 At 2.0 values of state is: 0 Doesn't seem to work... Not sure if its a problem with ns2 or my code...

  • dumping the source code for an anonymous function

    - by intuited
I'm working with a lot of anonymous functions, ie functions declared as part of a dictionary, aka "methods". It's getting pretty painful to debug, because I can't tell what function the errors are happening in. Vim's backtraces look like this: Error detected while processing function NamedFunction..2111..2105: line 1: E730: using List as a String This trace shows that the error occurred in the third level down the stack, on the first line of anonymous function #2105. IE NamedFunction called anonymous function #2111, which called anonymous function #2105. NamedFunction is one declared through the normal function NamedFunction() ... endfunction syntax; the others were declared using code like function dict.func() ... endfunction. So obviously I'd like to find out which function has number 2105. Assuming that it's still in scope, it's possible to find out what Dictionary entry references it by dumping all of the dictionary variables that might contain that reference. This is sort of awkward and it's difficult to be systematic about it, though I guess I could code up a function to search through all of the loaded dictionaries for a reference to that function, watching out for circular references. Although to be really thorough, it would have to search not only script-local and global dictionaries, but buffer-local dictionaries as well; is there a way to access another buffer's local variables? Anyway I'm wondering if it's possible to dump the source code for the anonymous function instead. This would be a lot easier and probably more reliable.

  • 'Hot code replace' not working -- Eclipse doesn't change any code on JBoss

    - by Bernhard V
Hello, fellow visitors! I'm currently experiencing a problem with 'hot code replace' not working on Eclipse Galileo and JBoss 4.2.3. Among other applications I'm running an exploded Java WAR on my local JBoss. The project from which it is build is managed by Maven. I build the project using the Maven goal war:exploded and then I copy that directory to JBoss with an ANT script. When I'm now running the application and set a breakpoint anywhere in the code, Eclipse properly halts at that line in the debug mode. But when I'm making a change to the source file and save it, Eclipse doesn't apply this change to the JBoss. For example, when I make a normal code line into a comment, the debugger still steps over this comment as if it was regular Java code. Or when I remove a line, the debugger seems to get out of sync with the file and starts stepping over parenthesis. But I'm not getting any 'hot code replace error'-messages either. It seems to me that Eclipse applies the changes to the source files, but doesn't apply it to the JBoss. Are there any special preferences that have to be turned on in order to make hot code replace work? Or are there any mistakes in how I build and deploy the application to the JBoss? I'd appreciate your help very much. Thank you. Bernhard V

  • Debugger ignores me.

    - by atch
Having code: Date::Date(const char* day, const char* month, const char* year):is_leap__(false) { my_day_ = lexical_cast<int>(day); my_month_ = static_cast<Month>(lexical_cast<int>(month)); /*Have to check month here, other ctor assumes month is correct*/ if (my_month_ < 1 || my_month_ > 12) { throw std::exception("Incorrect month."); } my_year_ = lexical_cast<int>(year); if (!check_range_year_(my_year_)) { throw std::exception("Year out of range."); } if (check_leap_year_(my_year_))//SKIPS THIS LINE { is_leap__ = true; } if (!check_range_day_(my_day_, my_month_)) { throw std::exception("Day out of range."); } } bool Date::check_leap_year_(int year)const//IF I MARK THIS LINE WITH BREAKPOINT I'M GETTING MSG THAT THERE IS NO EXECUTABLE CODE IS ASSOSIATED WITH THIS LINE { if (!(year%400) || (year%100 && !(year%4))) { return true; } else { return false; } } Which is very strange in my opinion. There is call to this fnc in my code, why compiler ignores that. P.S. I'm trying to debug in release.

  • Using Unit Tests While Developing Static Libraries in Obj-C

    - by macinjosh
I'm developing a static library in Obj-C for a CocoaTouch project. I've added unit testing to my Xcode project by using the built in OCUnit framework. I can run tests successfully upon building the project and everything looks good. However I'm a little confused about something. Part of what the static library does is to connect to a URL and download the resource there. I constructed a test case that invokes the method that creates a connection and ensures the connection is successful. However when my tests run a connection is never made to my testing web server (where the connection is set to go). It seems my code is not actually being ran when the tests happen? Also, I am doing some NSLog calls in the unit tests and the code they run, but I never see those. I'm new to unit testing so I'm obviously not fully grasping what is going on here. Can anyone help me out here? P.S. By the way these are "Logical Tests" as Apple calls them so they are not linked against the library, instead the implementation files are included in the testing target.

  • How do you debug a unit test in Xcode 3?

    - by Dov
I followed Apple's instructions to set up Unit Testing in my project. I followed the directions for making them dependent, so the tests run with every build of my main project. This works, and when my tests pass the application runs; when they don't, I get build errors on the lines of the unit tests that failed. I would like, however, to be able to step through my application code when the tests are failing, but can't get Xcode (3.2.5) configured properly. The project is a Mac project, not iOS. I tried the instructions here and here, but execution never stopped at the breakpoints I set, neither in the the unit test code or in my application code. After following the first set of instructions, the breakpoints I set turned yellow with blue outlines, and I don't know what that meant, either. What do I need to do to step through my tests?

  • cannot override sys.excepthook

    - by Mert Nuhoglu
I try to customize behavior of sys.excepthook as described by the recipe. in ipython: :import pdb, sys, traceback :def info(type, value, tb): : traceback.print_exception(type, value, tb) : pdb.pm() :sys.excepthook = info :-- >>> x[10] = 5 ------------------------------------------------- Traceback (most recent call last): File "<ipython console>", line 1, in <module> NameError: name 'x' is not defined >>> pdb.pm() is not being called. It seems that sys.excepthook = info doesn't work in my python 2.5 installation. What should I look into? Any suggestion? Thank you

  • How do I track down the source of a KVC exception: this class is not key value coding-compliant for

    - by sam
I get this error when I try to run my app: 2010-04-29 13:49:01.355 MyApp[56123:207] *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSUnknownKeyException', reason: '[<MyViewController 0x5112b10> setValue:forUndefinedKey:]: this class is not key value coding-compliant for the key toolbar.' MyViewController used to have an IBOutlet called 'toolbar' that connected to a UIToolbar object in a nib. I decided I no longer needed the toolbar or the nib so I removed them from the project. But Xcode seems to still want to refer to 'toolbar'. Where might the reference to toolbar be if I no longer use a nib? I can synthesize a dummy 'toolbar' property to appease Xcode, but I want to avoid this kind of ugly hack.

  • Visual Studio: What happened to the "Break when an exception is unhandled" option?

    - by Adrian Grigore
Hi, As far as I remember, Visual Studio (both 2008 and 2010) used to have an option to break either on thrown exceptions or on unhandled exceptions. Now when I bring up the Exceptions dialog (Ctr+Alt+E), it just offers to break when an exception is thrown: http://screencast.com/t/NDk3NDYxZD I've tried resizing to the columns in that dialog, but that did not help. Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

  • How to Debug XAML Parsing Errors in Silverlight?

    - by Nick Gotch
I run into the following issue semi-regularly: I make changes to XAML or some resources used by it and when I go to load up the Silverlight project in debug mode it only gets as far as the spinning Silverlight-loading animation. I've tried attaching the VS08 debugger to the process but it doesn't do anything at this point (works fine once I'm in the Silverlight but not before.) From previous experience I've noticed this happens when there're problems with the XAML or the resources in it but my only solution so far has been to dissect the code line-by-line until I spot the problem. Is there an easy way to debug/diagnose these situations? UPDATE I found this question with some help, but it still doesn't provide a good way to debug these types of issues.

  • What is private bytes, virtual bytes, working set?

    - by Devil Jin
I am using perfmon windows utility to debug memory leak in a process. Perfmon explaination: Working Set- Working Set is the current size, in bytes, of the Working Set of this process. The Working Set is the set of memory pages touched recently by the threads in the process. If free memory in the computer is above a threshold, pages are left in the Working Set of a process even if they are not in use. When free memory falls below a threshold, pages are trimmed from Working Sets. If they are needed they will then be soft-faulted back into the Working Set before leaving main memory. Virtual Bytes- Virtual Bytes is the current size, in bytes, of the virtual address space the process is using. Use of virtual address space does not necessarily imply corresponding use of either disk or main memory pages. Virtual space is finite, and the process can limit its ability to load libraries. Private Bytes- Private Bytes is the current size, in bytes, of memory that this process has allocated that cannot be shared with other processes. Q1. Is it the private byte should I measure to be sure if the process is having any leak as it does not involve any shared libraries and any leak if happening will be coming from the process itself? Q2. What is the total memory consumed by the process? Is it the Virtual byte size? or Is it the sum of Virtual Bytes and Working Set Q3. Is there any relation between private bytes, working set and virtual bytes. Q4. Any tool which gives a better idea memory information?

  • how to see my managed objects on the stack?

    - by smwikipedia
I use SOS.dll in VisualStudio to debug my C# program. The program is as below. The debug command is !DumpStackObjects. class Program { static void Main() { Int32 result = f(1); } static Int32 f(Int32 i) { Int32 j = i + 1; return j; <===========BreakPoint is here } } After I input the "!dso" command in the immediate window of Visual Studio, the result is as below: OS Thread Id: 0xf6c (3948) ESP/REG Object Name Why there's nothing? I thought there should be the args i and local variable j. Thanks for my answering my naive questions...

  • Event Handlers Not Getting Called? - wxWidgets & C++

    - by Alex
Hello all, I'm working on a program for my C++ programming class, using wxWidgets. I'm having a huge problem in that my event handlers (I assume) are not getting called, because when I click on the button to trigger the event, nothing happens. • what is stack overflow

Back in the days as freshmen in University, when programming in C on Unix machines, a "stack overflow" error on run-time would occur causing a lot of thought on what went wrong. What exactly is "stack overflow" in programming? What are the possible reasons for its appearance? Can it occur in all programming languages? Does it have other names?

Few days ago all was ok: when I started my web-site with Silverlight 4.0 application with F5 in Visual Studio debugger was connecting to Silverlight automatically, but now it doesn't. I've tried to attach manually from "Debug"-"Attach to process" with "Attach to" option set into "Silverlight code" value. But my breakpoints are still "disabled"... Why? How can I resolve that? Thanks.

  • ruby-debug19: Can't get working with Ruby 1.9.1p376

    - by tk-421
Hello, I'm trying to use ruby-debug19 with Ruby 1.9.1p376 but am getting the following error: test.rb:2:in `require': no such file to load -- ruby-debug19 (LoadError) from test.rb:2:in `<main>' Here's test.rb: require 'rubygems' require 'ruby-debug19' Here's the output of "gem list": *** LOCAL GEMS *** ruby-debug19 (0.11.6) (etc.) So running "ruby test.rb" generates the above error. Am I doing this wrong? I thought this was the correct way to run ruby-debug19 (by including the gem and adding "debugger" statements) and haven't been able to find any articles/posts with the same problem. I am using RVM but the above output is all under the same version of Ruby ("ruby -v" shows 1.9.1p376 as expected, and the gem list output is specific to that version and not the OS X system-installed version 1.8.7).

  • Why is Visual Studio 2008 stuck in debug mode when compiling

    - by Mark
I have a .NET project that for some reason gets stuck in debug mode. I've changed the compile mode from debug to release in the toolbar, but my project ends up in the debug directory anyway. Seems like VS is not updating the SLN file or something. Please help! The reason I am asking about this is because it seems that there are weak references "ENCList" clogging up memory when my program runs, and they seem to be created when .NET apps are compiled in debug (or so says other sources I've found online). -Mark

  • How to get the stacktrace in a mobile device?

    - by Daniel Moura
I'm getting a NullPointerException in a Nokia S40. I want to know what is causing this exception. The device shows: NullPointerException java/lang/NullPointerException This error only occurs in the device, running in the emulator the application works fine. I use microlog to debug my application. But the application works fine if the log is enabled. Is there a way to get the stack trace when I get this NullPointerException? I don't need all details like the line number just which method cause this exception. UPDATE: I installed the same application in another Nokia S40 and the same error didn't occur. Nokia 2660 - error Nokia 6131 - no error UPDATE 2: Somehow I find what was causing the NullPointerException. import javax.microedition.lcdui.Canvas; import javax.microedition.lcdui.Graphics; public class OuterClass extends Canvas { private Config config; public OuterClass() { this.config = new Config(); } public void paint(Graphics graphics) { HelperClass helper = new HelperClass(this.config); helper.doStuff(); } public void dispose() { this.config = null; } public class Config implements IConfig { public int getSomething() { // ... } } } public class HelperClass { private IConfig config; public HelperClass(IConfig) { this.config = config; } public doStuff() { config.getSomething(); // Here is thrown NullPointerException } } In some situations a thread is started and call the OuterClass.dispose() before the helper.doStuff() causing the NPE. I think when I enabled the log it made the thread slower and helper.doStuff() was called when I expected it to be called.
