• One user always unsuccessfull in logging into the MFP via DSS

  We use HP M4345 MFP's here with the HP DSS software. All the users can log into the MFP except for one particular user. I haven't been able to find out why. We are leaning towards her active directory account might be goofed. However I hate to delete the account and recreate it as it will cause a lot of extra work. Looking for any advice before we have to proceed down that road.

• Adding FTP Users via Simple Control Panel

  I just got setup with CentOS yesterday through GoDaddy, and today I'm trying to get into the server and start setting up some of my projects. I'm able to get in through PuTTY just fine, but I'm not able to connect through FTP with the same (root) account. I'm using Simple Control Panel, and have ensured that "Enable Server" is checked beneathSystem Configuration > FTP. Further, I've checked, and double checked that my root password is correct when providing the FTP details. Is there some other common setting I'm missing here that will prevent me from getting connected to the server to begin transfering files?

  I have an OCZ Vertex LE 100GB drive. It's actually 128GiB of NAND flash, with a whopping 28%+ reserved for write combining. Most 128GiB drives are actually ~ 115GB usable (and marketed as 120GB or 128GB). There were rumors that the reserved fraction could be decreased on OCZ 100GB drives. Can anyone provide a link to firmware that does that, or an official statement that no such firmware exists? (NB: I recently installed the 1.24 firmware from the OCZ site, it didn't affect the capacity. Possibly because the rumors say the capacity change is destructive to existing content.) Of possible interest: flashing firmware was more of a pain than it should have been -- the tool didn't detect the disk until I booted an older Windows install off a secondary hard disk, I suspect the Intel SATA driver is the issue and tool only works with the msachi.sys driver.

  In oVirt (Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization) you can create a Virtual Machines Pool to allow your users to retrieve virtual machines from this pool.   I've got a remote appliance, and its disk IO seems to have locked up, trying to run anything that isn't already loaded results in errors like this: $ sudo shutdown -r 0 sudo: Can't open /var/lib/sudo/<machine_name>/0: Read-only file system sudo: unable to execute /sbin/shutdown: Input/output error I have SSH access to the appliance. I'm hoping that restarting the box will fix this (if not I have to go replace the box), but trying to restart it yields the above output. Anyone have any ideas???

• Cannot access shares via full domain name on Server 2008R2

  Hi, I have a strange issue. We have a 2008R2 PDC and BDC. I can join the domain fine and everything seems "normal". However, on some of the other 2008R2 servers, I am unable to do things like a gpupdate. When I try, I get an error that the clocks are wrong (they aren't) and that I don't have permission. So far, this has only affected our 2008R2 servers -- the Win 7 clients are fine. The really strange things is if I browse to: \\mydomain.lan\sysvol - I get the error. But! if I browse to: \\MYDOMAIN\sysvol - it works fine. I can also access the \hostname.domain\sysvol remotely for each of the DC's and it's fine. So in short, it appears the permissions are fine since I can access them all individually on the same account. It also seems unlikely it's on the server as most clients can access it fine. The only drama I have is when I try to use the full domain name (which of course gpupdate does) on a 2008R2 server. Also, it's not just sysvol...netlogon has the same issues too on the affected machines. Any ideas? Thanks! Drew

What am I doing wrong?

• Dnsmasq offering IP via DHCP, but nobody is accepting

  As clients connect the logs light up with DHCPDISCOVER(wlan0) and DHCPOFFER(wlan0) but the IPs being offered are not being accepted. Currently dnsmasq offers IPs on eth1 which works flawlessly.   I need to set up on my server automated daily SQL db backups (sql express, so no maintenance plans). To keep things simple I'm gonna use a backup solution (JungleDisk) that uses VSS to back up the DB file. SQL fully supports VSS and on requests freezes DB I/O, so I understand I'm taking snapshots. JungleDisk supports doing differential back up and compression, so it simplifies things and keeps the cost/bandwidth down. Is it enough to just backup up db file (mdf). Do I need to back up transaction log (ldf) file as well? I'm ok with losing a day's worth of work (since the last backup). if I go this route, what's the best way to restore the database? are there any issues with this approach I'm not aware of?

• How to store etckeeper repositories on a central server via git

  Hello, I would like to have one central git repository for all my servers' etckeeper .git repos. Here the suggestion was to use a file in /etc/etckeeper/commit.d, which basically looks like this, assuming that a git repo had been set up in somedir on somehost: #!/bin/sh cd /etc git push faruser@farhost:somedir The problem with this is, that it would be really nice to have all servers in the same repo on the central server. I tried git push faruser@farhost:somedir/server1 but that failed. As you can see, I've never worked with git before ... • VirtualBox VM running web server not accessible via external IP

  I have a Windows 7 machine running VirtualBox with an Ubuntu guest. The guest has a Bitnami LAMP stack installed. I have the guest configured for Bridged networking, and I can access the guest web server just fine from other machines on my LAN using the guest's IP. I'm trying to configure port forwarding so that I can access the web server from outside my LAN. (The router is a 2WIRE model as I'm on ATT's UVerse). I've set up port forwarding for ports 80 and 443 to the guest's IP in a similar manner to how I had them set up for my previous, physical web server, which worked just fine. However, I cannot seem to access the new, virtual web server using my external IP on the forwarded port. I suspected Windows Firewall issues on the host, but disabling it didn't solve the issue. Anyone have advice on what I should try next? EDIT: I've now attempted disabling the firewall on the guest with sudo ufw disable -- that doesn't seem to help either. However, after checking the router's port forwarding in more detail I may see the problem. My VM is named "linux" and in the router's configuration pages it shows up inconsistently. Sometimes it reports with a valid LAN IP and other times it doesn't show up with any IP. Even when it shows the correct IP the router indicates that it is disconnected. Could this be an indication that the 2WIRE router doesn't play well with VirtualBox's bridged networking mode?

• Dell docking station / Windows 7 not detecting HannsG JC199D via DVI

  I have a laptop running Win7 that I use with a Dell docking station. I'd used it with XP for a couple years running dual monitors from the docking station, one from the VGA and one from the DVI. After upgrading to Win7, the monitor that's on the DVI out is not detected, using "rigorous detection" or otherwise. I've switched the cables to verify that it's not the monitor at fault-- but I can't find any info on why the monitor wouldn't be detected. I've got the latest and greatest Nvidia drivers installed (at least, as far as Windows update is aware). Leaving the laptop lid partly open does allow Windows to detect the laptop's native screen as well as the VGA monitor, but never the DVI. The monitors are HannsG JC199Ds. Any ideas? Thanks!

  I have a somehow complicated problem I am trying to solve. I've used the following .htaccess directive to enable some sort of Pretty URLs, and that worked fine. • Forward Hostname via my router to another PC for debugging

  Hi, My web service runs on for example: http://mydomain.com/mywebservice.asmx. This works great, but I have a PDA application which I want to debug it synchronising through this web service. Currently the only way I can do this is to debug the webservice running on the actual server which is far from ideal. What I would like to do is for any device connecting on my wireless network, if it requests mywebservice.asmx for this to forward the request to my development PC and for IIS to then handle the request and allow me to debug in Visual Studio. So device on the network that requests the hostname: mywebservice.asmx will his this PC.. I am at a loss to set this up on my router (Zoom ADSL X6), this is massively out of my scope but any help would be much appreciated

• Very slow connection to xserve via afp or smb

  Help. File transfer and connection speed to our Xserve are painfully slow from newly purchased iMacs. The Xserve is only used as a file server, its running 10.4.11. The problem seems to be only happening on brand new iMacs running 10.6.3. When connected either over afp or smb copying files is many times slower than usual. Other machines on the network running either 10.4 or 10.5 have a normal connection speed. To try to rule out OS incompatibility I connected the new iMac running 10.6 to another computer running 10.4 over the network. The file transfer speed was fast as normal. So it seems the problems lies with the X serve (maybe). The afp logs either access or error don't show anything unusual. One thing that did look different was when the imac was connected to the Xserve the user had its id listed as its IP address. The other machines connected, had the id of broadcasthost. I also noticed that when connected from the new iMac I can only see one of the mirrors. When any other computer connects both mirrors are shown. Tried a restart of the Xserve but the problem persists. Thanks in advance for any advice

I assume I need to install some type of codec pack. I'm looking for suggestions on a codec pack that I can easily deploy through a Win2003 server to WinXP clients. Ideally, this codec pack shouldn't break anything else and be easily removed if need be.

  It seems that all the wireless laptops in the office have disconnected and are unable to reconnect to the wifi after a terrible storm caused some power interruptions. Troubleshooting actions Verify wireless broadcasting is up With each laptop i ended up flushing their dns cache on Win 7 (ipconfig /flush ) Performed an ipconfig /all to see what the new ip is Made sure password was correct Reset the router (multiple times) restarted each laptop. Tried connecting wirelessly Am i missing some small detail ? Network information The router is a linksys/cisco WRVS4400N router. Supports a lot of fancy features i don't know how to use. However, when I embed it within a Page, I get a broken image icon. However, all browsers treat it as a download. Conversely, this image, which was made the same way, works fine when I embed it within a Page.
