• How do I allow full brightness control on Unity?

  When I use the brightness changing buttons Unity changes the brightness by two levels each time to create a nice effect. However, I only have about 10 different brightness settings and so this effect has caused a reduction in brightness settings to 5. I change my brightness regularly to suit the lighting in the room I'm in, but am unable to do this so effectively now that the number of levels has been reduced. Is there any way of turning off this brightness effect and controlling my brightness setting more sensitively? Thank you for your time. EDIT: It may not be 2 levels it changes at a time but 3, I've worked this out as the brightness control panel allows you to set the brightness accurately and there seem to be a couple of settings that the button misses completely when I change the brightness with the buttons.

  I have a new laptop, It has the icon for toggling the touchpad on fn+f1 so I would like to assign this shortcut, I have a working script, and I can assign the script to any other combination, but it appears that ubuntu does not pick up the fn+f1 combination? how can I correct this? The other one is, My laptop has three extra buttons, Assist, Web, and Vaio. These map to Help, Homepage, and nothing respectively. the Web button is working perfectly. The assist button if I am setting up a keyboard shortcut for something it binds fine, but then pressing it does nothing? The Vaio button seems to not be listened to much like the combination I posted above. How can i correct the assist and Vaio buttons?

  Dell Inspiron 1210 mini Blank Screen on boot 12.04 If I mash buttons I get to a gray screen then the login screen and into the desktop but normally I turn on the laptop and I see a black screen with a cursor then a purple screen then it just goes black. I can hit ctrl alt F1 or F2 and get a prompt. I've tried using the poulsbo ppa driver script fix but that doesn't work. I don't knwo what to do now. I have the OS installed and when I did get into the OS by mashing buttons I installed updates and wireless adapter drivers. It works but if I reboot I jsut get to the black screen and have no idea what to do. What needs to be done so that I can just boot up and see the login screen!?

• I cannot change the screen brightness

  here's my problem: Ever since I installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my computer I haven't been able to change the screen brightness, it was always set to the maximum. I did take a look at this post: Decrease Backlight Below Minimum And it helped me resolved the issue with the unbearable brightness, however one problem persists: I cannot change it through "Brightness & Lock" or the function buttons (F2 and F3), when I press the buttons, the animation shows up but nothing happens. If it helps: I have an HP-dv6 6185la, it has an ATI Radeon 6770M HD card and an Intel HD Integrated Graphics Card It only detects the "Intel® Sandybridge Mobile" Thanks in advance.

• Framework for interaction between web-page and server-side script

  I want to make a web-page that will have several controls elements, among which there are elements like check-boxes, radio-buttons, "range selectors" (one can specify the min and max value, like it is done when you select range for prices in the online markets). The new values shall be sent to the "server-side", once changed (without any Submit buttons etc), and the "server-side" can return something (one or more numbers, etc). Does anyone know a good ajax-like framework that allows (with minimal adaptation / changes) to make such solution in an easy way? It will be good if the server-side of existing solution will be in Perl (not a big deal, but I know it much better than PHP or something else). Set of controls might change and depend on other parameter, so adding one extra element should not cause rewriting the whole thing. P.S.: I haven't working in this area for quite a while, so not aware of existing solutions in this area, and don't want to invent the wheel and write everything from scratch for something that already exist (at least, I hope so). • Google analytics - vistor path to specific site destination setup and monitoring?

  I have a website which I am using google analytics to track visitors and track our banner campaigns. We're are promoting 'Purchase Ticket' buttons on our website which push visitors to a third party website who sell and distribute our tickets. The url on all the 'Purchase Ticket' buttons are the same through out the site... Example: http://ticketmaestro.com/events/my-event-2012 In the analytic control panel, is it possible so set something up, where I create a path-to-destination using the above example url? ...and then after this is setup: I want to be able to monitor the path visitors are taking from when they reach the site - to when they click the 'Purchase Ticket' button. • Unity mouse input not working in webplayer build

Further testing revealed that it did work in Firefox. Rather than telling people to change their browser if they want to play, I want to make the button code work. How else can I get the buttons to know when they're being pressed if the built-in stuff isn't working?

• How do I prevent the Sleep button from locking the screen

  My keyboard has a Sleep button. I defined a shortcut in System Settings, Keyboard Shortcuts own settings (or similar), so that the Sleep buttons runs a script. That works. But since my upgrade to Oneiric, something also locks the screen (in the same way the screen is locked when I press Ctrl+Alt+L). Can I disable that behaviour? What's the name of that lock screen? I tried hiding gnome-screensaver and /etc/acpi/ and I looked in gconf-editor /apps/gnome-power-manager/buttons. I didn't find anything related in dconf-editor.

• Toshiba Portege M400 screen rotation not working under Windows 7 x64

  I have installed Windows 7 on my Toshiba Portege M400. This in itself was relatively tricky.* However, the button utilities aren't quite working for me. One of the buttons tries to launch the Toshiba Assist program, which doesn't appear to be available under Windows 7 for the M400, but this I can live without. More important is that the screen won't rotate as it is supposed to when you hold the "cancel" (X in a circle) button on the bezel. The PC is set to run "C:\Program Files (x860\Toshiba\Toshiba Rotation Utility\phtrot.exe". There is a "trot.exe" file in the same directory (the former appears to be to cause slightly different behaviour when rotation is done by press and hold). Neither of these programs rotates the screen either by using the buttons or from the command line. The screen is rotating normally when switching from tablet to laptop mode, so there does not appear to be an inherent problem with rotation. I'd just like to be able to use the buttons on the side of the screen to change the screen orientation. Windows XP used to have a "setrot" utility to do this, but that seems to have gone in Windows 7 Thanks for your help. *Just in case anyone comes looking for how to do this, you need to extract driver files from http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/util_raid_os2007252a.exe, which does not seem to be listed among the available files for the m400. This executable contains the SATA interface drivers that will need to be loaded by the installer before it can see your hard disk drive. It needs to be unpacked and the files copied to a USB key which they can then be loaded from in the install process. The utilities etc. for installation post windows install are all available from the Toshiba USA support website.

• Excel controls not visible for certain users

  One of the users of an Excel program I've written is having a weird problem. None of the control objects (Command Button, ComboBox, etc.) are visible to him when he opens the file on his laptop. He is using Excel 2003, the same version I used to create the program, and enables macros using the pop-up when the file loads. I have Googled this, and have found these people who seem to be having the exact same problem, with various versions of Excel. Unfortunately, none of their questions were answered. I can't really explain it any better than this user: If I enter design mode and pull a control from the control toolbar onto a sheet all I see are the drag handles. When not in design mode I have to feel around with the mouse and can click the button which executes the button click code correctly and opens another sheet where again I have to feel around for the buttons to return me to the original sheet. The button I managed to click is now visible but as soon as I click anywhere on the sheet it disappears. I have verified that the visible property of the buttons is set and that the Show All Objects on the Options View tab is selected. If I pull buttons from the Forms toolbar onto a sheet they are visible. If I try to find Objects using F5 when not in design mode Excel reports no objects on the sheet. So, Super Users, can you help? UPDATE: Thanks for your replies, but much like the person in the ozgrid link, the problem has gone away. Not sure why it went, but I can confirm that the user rebooted again and also started up other Excel files that didn't contain controls in the interim. Perhaps that fixed it, or maybe it'll be back again. I'll keep udating with progress, and close if the problem doesn't reoccur for the next few days. Thanks again.

  I'm on learning ruby and I took a already done IRC-Bot from the web which just connects to a given serven and not much more. Then I added some features (in my case I try to implement a voting where to eat lunch). Now these work fine so far but I don't know if the ruby script does something wrong or there is something wrong with the IRC-server. • Adding button to jqGrid top toolbar

  Looks like the default toolbar for jqGrid is always at the bottom. Buttons like Next/Prev page and the dropdown to select the number of rows per page will always show at the bottom of the grid. I found a way to add a custom top toolbar and push custom buttons into it. What a really need is a way to add default functionality (like paging) to the top of the grid, instead the bottom.

For example, on the opening screen of my game, I would like to place buttons for "Play Now", "Instructions", etc, right on top of the canvas. I am required to set the tab order to move to the next field but since there's a button on the up-down arrow, the browser will go through those buttons first then move to the next textbox field. How do you set the jquery to detect the next visible textbox/dropdown/etc input field and move to that on pressing the tab button instead of running through the buttons near it?
