• Android app after update: crashes on Motorola Cliq with weird stacktrace

  So after updating my app on the market I am getting reports from motorola cliq-users that my app crashes on start. The stacktrace is below, and is not very helpful since it does not go trough my app! Unfortunately I have no access to a motorola cliq-phone by myself, and I have changed too many things in this update to know what is causing the trouble. • Fast Lightweight Image Comparisson Metric Algorithm

  Hi All, I am developing an application for the Android platform which contains 1000+ image filters that have been 'evolved'. When a user selects a photo I want to present the most relevant filters first. This 'relevance' should be dependent on previous use cases. I have already developed tools that register when a filtered image is saved; this combination of filter and image can be seen as the training data for my system. The issue is that the comparison must occur between selecting an image and the next screen coming up. From a UI point of view I need the whole process to take less that 4 seconds; select an image- obtain a metric to use for similarity - check against use cases - return 6 closest matches. I figure with 4 seconds I can use animations and progress dialogs to keep the user happy. Due to platform contraints I am fairly limited in the computational expense of the algorithm. I have implemented a technique adapted from various online tutorials for running C code on the G1 and hence this language is available Specific Constraints; Qualcomm® MSM7201A™, 528 MHz Processor 320 x 480 Pixel bitmap in 32 bit ARGB ~ 2 seconds computational time for the native method to get the metric ~ 2 seconds to compare the metric of the current image with training data This is an academic project so all ideas are welcome, anything you can think of or have heard about would be of interest to me. My ideas; I want to keep the complexity down (O(n*m)?) by using pixel data only rather than a neighbourhood function I was looking at using the Colour historgram/Greyscale histogram/Texture/Entropy of the image, combining them to make the measure. There will be an obvious loss of information but I need the resultant metric to be substantially smaller than the memory footprint of the image (~0.512 MB) As I said, any ideas to direct my research would be fantastic. I did some tests executing the code of my "show" method from a QMetaObject::invokeMethod stuff using Qt::QueuedConnection but nothing works properly. • Improving field get and set performance with ASM or Javassist

  I would like to avoid reflection in an open source project I am developing. Here I have classes like the following. public class PurchaseOrder { @Property private Customer customer; @Property private String name; } I scan for the @Property annotation to determine what I can set and get from the PurchaseOrder reflectively. There are many such classes all using java.lang.reflect.Field.get() and java.lang.reflect.Field.set(). Ideally I would like to generate for each property an invoker like the following. public interface PropertyAccessor<S, V> { public void set(S source, V value); public V get(S source); } Now when I scan the class I can create a static inner class of PurchaseOrder like so. static class customer_Field implements PropertyAccessor<PurchaseOrder, Customer> { public void set(PurchaseOrder order, Customer customer) { order.customer = customer; } public Customer get(PurchaseOrder order) { return order.customer; } } With these I totally avoid the cost of reflection. I can now set and get from my instances with native performance. Can anyone tell me how I would do this. A code example would be great. I have searched the net for a good example but can find nothing like this. The ASM and Javasist examples are pretty poor also. The key here is that I have an interface that I can pass around. So I can have various implementations, perhaps one with Java Reflection as a default, one with ASM, and one with Javassist? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• How do I bind an iTunes style source list to an NSTableView using Core Data?

  I have an iTunes style interface in my application: Source list (NSOutlineView) on the left that contains different libraries and playlists with an NSTableView on the right side of the interface displaying information for "Presentations". Similar to iTunes, I am showing the same type of information in the table view whether a library or playlist is selected (title, author, date created, etc). I currently have an NSArrayController connected to my NSTableView and was setting the fetch predicate based on what was selected in the source list. This works fine when selecting a library because I can just set the fetch predicate to filter by the "type" field in my Presentation Core Data entity. When I try to adjust the fetch predicate for the playlist however, it doesn't look like there is any way to set the fetch predicate because I've got a table in between Playlists and Presentations to keep up with the order within the Playlist. According to the Apple docs, these type of predicates are not doable with Core Data (it basically doesn't multiple inner joins). Below is the relevant portion of my Data Model. Is my data model setup incorrectly? Should I drop the NSArrayController and handle connecting the NSTableView up by hand? I'm trying to figure out if there is a simple fix, or really a design flaw.

• Programmatically disable WiredHeadset

  Hi, I have an HTC Hero with a major issue. It thinks that the headset/headphones are plugged in. I sent it to HTC and they said there is water damage so no fix. I have tried toggleheadset, toggleheadset2. I've rooted my device and installed the Android 2.1 ROM. Now I found out that AudioManager.setRouting and .setWiredHeadsetOn(bool) have been deprecated and subsequently removed. I read a post somewhere about how you can create a wrapper for the AudioSystem class as the setRouting is still available there. I as of yet have not been able to figure out how to go about doing this as the AudioSystem class is hidden in the SDK and the code makes use of native functions. Does anybody know of a way to go about creating and implementing a wrapper for AudioSystem or of another way to disable the headset? P.S. I've cleaned out the headset port so there is no dust or anything sending false signals to the mainboard. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tyrone

• How can I find "People's Contacts" folders via Outlook's object model?

  I have some code that locates all the contact folders that a user has access to by iterating through the Application.Session.Stores collection. This works for the user's contacts and also all the public contacts folders. It also finds all the contacts folders in additional mailbox accounts that the user has added via the Tools - Account Settings... menu command. However, this requires the user to have full access to the other person's account. When a user only has access to another person's contacts, then that person's contacts show up under the "People's Contacts" group in the Contacts view. How do I find those contact folders that don't show up under Session.Stores? In order to see the other user's contacts folder without adding access to their full mailbox, click File - Open - Other User's Folder... from the Outlook menu. In the dialog box, enter the other user's name and select Contacts from the Folder type drop down list. Here's the code (minus the error checking and logging) I'm using to find a list of all the user's Outlook contact folders. I know this can (and maybe should) be done using early binding to the Outlook.Application type, but that doesn't affect the results. EnumerateFolders is recursive so that it searches all sub folders.   I am new to java(a real novice). I installed Java 1.7.0 in the following folder C:\Program Files\Java The environment variable which I set are CLASSPATH : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0\jre\lib\rt.jar; Path : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0\bin; JAVA_HOME : C:\Program Files\Java; I have presented here the class names which are in my system. • Why can't I wrap the ServletRequest when trying to capture JSP Output

  I am trying to dispatch in a servlet request handler to the JSP processor and capture the content of it. I am providing wrapper instances for the ServletRequest and ServletResponse, they implement the corresponding HTTPServletRequest/-Response interfaces, so they should be drop-in replacements. All methods are currently passed to the original Servlet Request object (I am planning to modify some of them soon). Additionally I have introduced some new methods. (If you want to see the code: http://code.google.com/p/gloudy/source/browse/trunk/gloudyPortal/src/java/org/gloudy/gloudlet/impl/RenderResponseImpl.java) The HttpServletResponse uses it's own output streams to capture the output. When I try to call request.getRequestDispatcher("/WEB-INF/views/test.jsp").include(request, response); With my request and response wrappers the method returns and no content has been captured. When I tried to pass the original request object it worked! But that's not what I need in the long run... request.getRequestDispatcher("/WEB-INF/views/test.jsp").include(request.getServletRequest(), response); This works. getservletRequest() returns the original Request, given by the servlet container. Does anyone know why this is not working with my wrappers?

• AJAX vs ActiveX/Flash for browser-based game

  I have been following the usage of JavaScript for the past few years, and with the release of extremely fast scripting engines (V8, SquirrelFish Extrene, TraceMonkey, etc.) the possibilities of JavaScript have increased dramatically. However, the usage share of Internet Explorer coupled with it's total lack of support for recent standards makes me want to drop a bomb on Microsoft's HQ, as it creates a huge amount of problems for any website. The game will need to be pretty dynamic client-side, with animations and other eye-candy things, but not a full-blown game like those that run directly in the OS using DirectX or OpenGL. However, this might be a little stretch for JavaScript and will certainly feel extremely slow in Internet Explorer (given that the current IE engine can be hundreds of times slower than SFX; gotta see what IE9 will bring), would it be better to just do the whole thing in Flash? I know this means requiring the plug-in AND I have no experience whatsoever with Flash (other than browsing YouTube :P). It also means I can't just output directly from PHP, I would have to use XML or some other format to pass data to it (JSON is directly integrated in JS and PHP can deal with it easily). Another idea would be to provide an alternative interface just for IE, though I don't know how (ActiveX maybe? or with Flash, then why not just provide it to all browsers) or totally not supporting it and requiring the use of other browsers, although this is plain stupid from a business perspective. So here am I, wondering what approach to take and thus asking for your advice. How should I build the client-side? AJAX in all browsers, Flash in all browsers or a mix (AJAX for "modern" browsers and something else for the "grandpa": IE).

• Custom view transition in OpenGL ES

  I'm trying to create a custom transition, to serve as a replacement for a default transition you would get here, for example: [self.navigationController pushViewController:someController animated:YES]; I have prepared an OpenGL-based view that performs an effect on some static texture mapped to a plane (let's say it's a copy of the flip effect in Core Animation). What I don't know how to do is: grab current view content and make a texture out of it (I remember seeing a function that does just that, but can't find it) how to do the same for the view that is currently offscreen and is going to replace current view are there some APIs I can hook to in order to make my transition class as native as possible (make it a kind of Core Animation effect)? Any thoughts or links are greatly appreciated! UPDATE Jeffrey Forbes's answer works great as a solution to capture the content of a view. What I haven't figured out yet is how to capture the content of the view I want to transition to, which should be invisible until the transition is done. Also, which method should I use to present the OpenGL view? For demonstration purposes I used pushViewController. That affects the navbar, though, which I actually want to go one item back, with animation, check this vid for explanation: http://vimeo.com/4649397. Another option would be to go with presentViewController, but that shows fullscreen. Do you think maybe creating another window (or view?) could be useful?

• How can I create a finger scrollable Textbox in WM 6.5?

  Hi everybody. I just noticed something weird in WM 6.5 emulators. Unlike 6.1 where finger panning kind of worked, the only way to scroll a Textbox appears to be through scrollbars. This behaviour is in contrast to what they have done for comboboxes: they are now gesture-friendly without the programmer's intervention. I.e. the user can select a choice from a standard drop down menu by panning and scrolling. Previously, you had to use the embedded scrollbar. The combobox's case implies that MS took some measures to provide standard gesture support for classic finger gestures, yet I cannot see something similar for textboxes. This makes me ask the following: Is there anything that can be done to make textboxes finger scrollabe easily? Note that I refer to managed .NET CF development. It is my understanding that in native development I could use the new Gestures API to achieve the scrolling effect. Yet, I am not sure if there is an easier and more straightforward method that I have missed.

  Hi all, I want to replace an old ISAPI filter that ran on IIS6. This filter checks if the request is of a special kind, then manipulates the header and continues with the request. Two headers are added in the manipulating method that I need for calling another special ISAPI module. • "Downloading" a computed value form JavaScript

  I'm hoping you can prove me wrong here (please, please, please! ;). I have a situation where I need to download encrypted data from a Server D (for "Data"). Server K (for "Key") has the encryption key. For security sake, I would really prefer that Server D never know the key that Server K knows. What I want is my client (e.g. your browser) to connect to Server D for the data and Server K for the key and doe the decryption locally so the unencrypted stuff never leaves your computer. I can do this fine for text areas in the dom by replacing the contents of the HTML. However, sometimes, I would like to do larger files that I stream to the file system. For instance, perhaps I want to encrypt a movie and decrypt it and stream the contents to the my video player. I am not a JavaScript guru by any stretch, especially when it comes to the edge cases of things like the security sandbox. For Small D, I can handle the decryption, but I don't know how to save the decrypted file. Large D seems problematic as memory runs out. Anybody have any ideas that don't involve native plugins? Thanks!

• int considered harmful?

  Working on code meant to be portable between Win32 and Win64 and Cocoa, I am really struggling to get to grips with what the @#$% the various standards committees involved over the past decades were thinking when they first came up with, and then perpetuated, the crime against humanity that is the C native typeset - char, short, int and long. On the one hand, as a old-school c++ programmer, there are few statements that were as elegant and/or as simple as for(int i=0; i<some_max; i++) but now, it seems that, in the general case, this code can never be correct. Oh sure, given a particular version of MSVC or GCC, with specific targets, the size of 'int' can be safely assumed. But, in the case of writing very generic c/c++ code that might one day be used on 16 bit hardware, or 128, or just be exposed to a particularly weirdly setup 32/64 bit compiler, how does use int in c++ code in a way that the resulting program would have predictable behavior in any and all possible c++ compilers that implemented c++ according to spec. To resolve these unpredictabilities, C99 and C++98 introduced size_t, uintptr_t, ptrdiff_t, int8_t, int16_t, int32_t, int16_t and so on. Which leaves me thinking that a raw int, anywhere in pure c++ code, should really be considered harmful, as there is some (completely c++xx conforming) compiler, thats going to produce an unexpected or incorrect result with it. (and probably be a attack vector as well)

• Best way to test a Delphi application

  I have a Delphi application that has many dependencies, and it would be difficult to refactor it to use DUnit (it's huge), so I was thinking about using something like AutomatedQA's TestComplete to do the testing from the front-end UI. My main problem is that a bugfix or new feature sometimes breaks old code that was previously tested (manually), and used to work. I have setup the application to use command-line switches to open-up a specific form that could be tested, and I can create a set of values and clicks needed to be done. But I have a few questions before I do anything drastic... (and before purchasing anything) Is it worth it? Would this be a good way to test? The result of the test should in my database (Oracle), is there an easy way in testcomplete to check these values (multiple fields in multiple tables)? I would need to setup a test database to do all the automated testing, would there be an easy way to automate re-setting the test db? Other than drop user cascade, create user,..., impdp. Is there a way in testcomplete to specify command-line parameters for an exe? Does anybody have any similar experiences.

• Escaping colons in hibernate createSQLQuery

  I am confused on how I can create an SQL statement containing colons. I am trying to create a view and I am using (notice the double colons): create view MyView as ( SELECT tableA.colA as colA, tableB.colB as colB, round(tableB.colD / 1024)::numeric, 2) as calcValue, FROM tableA, tableB WHERE tableA.colC = 'someValue' ); This is a postgres query and I am forced to use the double colons (::) in order to correctly run the statement. I then pass the above statement through: s.createSQLQuery(myQuery).executeUpdate(); and I get a: Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.exception.DataException: \ could not execute native bulk manipulation query at org.hibernate.exception.SQLStateConverter.convert(\ SQLStateConverter.java:102) ... more stacktrace... with an output of my above statement changed as (notice the question mark): create view MyView as ( SELECT tableA.colA as colA, tableB.colB as colB, round(tableB.colD / 1024)?, 2) as calcValue, FROM tableA, tableB WHERE tableA.colC = 'someValue' ); Obviously, hibernate confuses my colons with named parameters. Is there a way to escape the colons (a google suggestion that mentions that a single colon is escaped as a double colon does NOT work) or another way of running this statement? Thanks.

• OpenCV and iPhone

  Hello, I am writing an application to create a movie file from a bunch of images on an iPhone. I am using OpenCv. I downloaded openCv static libraries for arm(iPhones native instruction architecture) and the libraries were generated just fine. There were no problems linking to them libraries. As a first step, i was trying to create a .avi file using one image, to see if it works. But cvCreateVideoWriter always returns me a NULL value. I did some searchin and i believe its due to the codec not being present. I am trying this on the iPhone simulator. this is what i do...
