  • eXML-PARSER output contains unwanted hash references

    So I wrote a parser routine to take one xml file and reparse into another one. This code I later modified to split a large xml file into many small xml files. I am having a problem with an output.   • Wildcard SSL Certificates with Exchange 2010?

    Is anyone using a Wildcard Cert with Exchange 2010 please? We currently have a bunch of individual whatever.domain.com SSL certificates and as several are expiring soon it would be an ideal opportunity to move to a wildcard certificate. At some point though we will be moving from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, and I've read conflicting reports over whether wildcard certs work with Exchange 2010 as many guides seem to recommend a UCC/SAN certificate. Our internal DNS domain name is the same as our external domain name. Godaddy look like good VFM given they allow use on unlimited physical servers. Thanks in advance.

  • How do I repair the corrupted files found by sfc /scannow? "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."

    After running chkdsk C: /F /R and finding out that my hard disk has 24 KB in bad sectors (log is posted below), I decided to run Windows 7's System File Checker utility (sfc /scannow). SFC showed the ff. message after I ran it: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log." Since the CBS.log file is too large, I ran findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt" (as per Microsoft's KB 928228 article) to only get the log text pertaining to the corrupt files. (log is also posted below) How do I troubleshoot and repair the corrupted files mentioned by sfc /scannow?   • Can I use OAuth for a SOAP web service?

    The standard HTTP Authentication for SOAP passed the password etc in cleartext,and I'm looking for an alternative, possibly a key based mechanism to authenticate web services in lieu of the password. OAuth is gaining a lot of popularity; would it be appropriate, and how would I implement it? Or perhaps there are other methods I should use. The project itself is relatively simple, with just a one or two methods to be exposed, but security is of the utmost importance.

  • Login without running bash_profile or bashrc

    So let's say one typoed something in their .bashrc that prevents him (or her) from logging in via ssh (i.e. the ssh login exits because of the error in the file). Is there any way that person could login without executing it (or .bashrc since the one runs the other), or otherwise delete/rename/invalidate the file? Suppose you don't have physical access to the machine, and this is the only user account with the ability to ssh in.   • VMWare Workstation Performance

    Hi there, awhile ago I upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 x64 from Windows XP 32 bit edition. However not before virtualizing the physical installation and I continue to run it under VMWare Workstation today. The performance on the resulting VM is just absolutely atrocious! I've done a lot of uninstalling stuff that's not longer needed since the machine is virtual in an effort to reduce RAM, but in general the responsiveness seems sluggish. I also run the Virtual Machine on it's own separate HD that is seldom used by the host OS. I'm just hoping for some general tips in increasing VMWare performance anywhere, thoughts? EDIT: Both of the below answers were excellent starting points for me. However I did like the selected answer's strategies on disk management. I am running the Virtual Machine in a separate external hard disk, likely I'm going to have to reconfigure somehow. Thanks all!

    I'm in the process of purchasing a Netbook for use while traveling. The included OS is XP, however, I would like to upgrade(?) to Windows 7. My question: Does a Windows Upgrade have the same physical footprint and performance as a full install? Does an upgrade leave behind non used files/resources that were originally included in XP? If so, are there ways to reduce this? I'm trying to reduce as much OS bloat as possible. Please let me know if my question is unclear. Thanks.     Hey guys, First of all, i have read the "millions" of post on this site and some blogs/forum post on other websites, and no answer is solving my problem. I'm my app, there's a possibility to import a txt or csv file with data. In the case of the error, the file contains 444 rows (file is 14,5 kB). When i try to send it to the server to process it, i get an QuotaExceedException, telling me to increase MaxReceivedMessageSize. So i changed it to a much higher value, but i'm still getting the same exception. I'm using the same exact items for client and server in system.servicemodel in my config file.   • Static Routes and the Routing Table

    This is very much a learning question if someone would be happy to explain a couple of concepts. My question is - the default routing table that exists in, in my case, a default Windows 7 install, what do each of the routes in the table do? Here is a screenshot: The 10.128.4.0 is just a route I've added while messing. I understand from a question I posted on Superuser the first route is just a default route that will route all traffic for any IP to my default gateway on my Interface in use. But what about the others? And how would the routing table handle a machine with multiple NIC's, perhaps connected to two different networks, or maybe even two NIC's on the same network so a VM can have a physical Network card instead of each VM sharing the hosts.     Our company has grown quite quickly and I am facing new tasks which I did not think I'd need to deal with. Recently we've come ot a point where we have 100+ Devices (Routers, Bridges, Computers, Laptops, VOIP Phones etc). The other day I was quite frightened when I asked for an inventory and no one had one. I want to start tagging all equipment and recording serials to begin tracking our inventory and ensuring we have a proper record of what equipment we have. Does anyone have advice as to how to go about 1. Convincing the higher ups why we need to do this and 2. What software or strategies might work? Keep in mind this is not for furniture, office equipment etc but IT specific equipment. I'm concerned over people 1. Stealing the physical devices and 2. Losing track of configuration data etc in case we'd need to do a wipe and restore

  • Multiple WAN interfaces in same subnet on Sonicwall NSA220?

I see a bunch of related questions, so I'm hesitant to ask, but: I have a situation where I have a Sonicwall NSA220 serving as firewall/router for two internal subnets to two external WAN connections. In some locations this is two separate ISPs. In others, it's the same ISP but with multiple circuits. The problem is that one ISP has been unable to provide unique subnets for each WAN interface. Is there any possibility that I might be able to bond the two WAN interfaces into a single virtual interface, and then use source-routing to get internal subnets communicating out the appropriate physical interface? Or even just use traffic-shaping to give each internal network appropriate shared bandwidth? I haven't found anything in the docs, but it seemed like it might be worth asking.   • Failures when copying between two external drives on the same controller

    I'm encountering a weird problem which is present both on Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04, on two different machines. When trying to copy between two external drives connected to the same USB controller, the transfer will randomly hang at some random time (after copying 300MB, 1GB, 10GB - it doesn't appear to depend on the dataset being copied). The hang appears to happen faster in 10.04. It appears to happen slower if both drives are connected to a hub. If the drives are connected to 2 distinct physical ports on the machine, the hang will be very fast. Hangs cannot be reproduced if: Data is copied from the first external drive to an internal drive, then to the second external drive Drives are connected to different USB controllers, for example the first one is connected to the built-in controller and the second one via an external PCMCIA controller. lspci says the first machine has an Intel ICH9 USB controller, the second an Intel ICH4. Is this a hardware problem, a kernel problem or a software issue? I used Nautilus when copying the files.

I note that the Mobile Intel® GMA 4500MHD shares the physical memory to process the graphics. now, the total available graphics memory can be up to 1,340 MB with a 32-bit operating system and 3 GB system memory or 1,759 MB with a 64-bit operating system and 4 GB system memory. I am considering investing in a 4GB stick to replace the 1gb stick bringing the total up to 6gb, mainly for an increase in graphics processing ability. Can anyone let me know what sort of power (if any over the 4gb) I could expect by upgrading to 6GB?

    I have a new HP Z800 Workstation, running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. The machine has 4GB of RAM -- windows reported 1.99GB available, 2GB was "hardware reserved". I added another 2 GB and windows reports that there is 6GB of physical RAM, but now 4GB is "hardware reserved". The BIOS sees the full RAM amount as well. The video card is an nVida Quadro FX 580, so it shouldn't be using any shared memory at all. whats going on? Z800 Specs are here.

  • VPN Connection causes DNS to use wrong DNS server

    I have a Windows 7 PC on our company network (which is a member of our Active Directory). Everything works fine until I open a VPN connection to a customer's site. When I do connect, I lose network access to shares on the network, including directories such as 'Application Data' that we have a folder redirection policy for. As you can imagine, this makes working on the PC very difficult, as desktop shortcuts stop working, software stops working properly due to having 'Application Data' pulled from under it. Our network is routed (10.58.5.0/24), with other local subnets existing within the scope of 10.58.0.0/16. The remote network is on 192.168.0.0/24. I've tracked the issue down to being DNS related. As soon as I open the VPN tunnel, all my DNS traffic goes via the remote network, which explains the loss of local resources, but my question is, how can I force local DNS queries to go to our local DNS servers rather than our customers? (i.e. I can ping any node on our network or the remote network). I've modified the PPTP connection properties to use the DNS servers 10.58.3.32 followed by 192.168.0.16, yet the query still goes to 192.168.0.16. Edit: The local resources that disappear are hosted on domain DFS roots, which might (or might not) be relevant.
