Mobile Safari SVG Problem

I'm trying to get an SVG image to show up on my iPhone (or iPad) default browser, but I can't seem to get even just a rect to show up. Why do Java and C# not have implicit conversions to boolean?

Since I started Java it's been very aggravating for me that it doesn't support implicit conversions from numeric types to booleans, so you can't do things like: if (flags & 0x80) { ... } instead you have to go through this lunacy: if ((flags & 0x80) != 0) { ... } It's the same with null and objects. Every other C-like language I know including JavaScript allows it, so I thought Java was just moronic, but I've just discovered that C# is the same (at least for numbers, don't know about null/objects): http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/c8f5xwh7(VS.71).aspx Microsoft changed it on purpose from C++, so why? Clearly I'm missing something. Why change (what I thought was) the most natural thing in the world to make it longer to type? What on Earth is wrong with it?

Maven overlay with war not generated by maven

I'm pretty new to Maven, so I apologize if this is a newbie question. We are trying to integrate a 3rd-party app into ours. This 3rd-party functionality is delivered to us as a war file. As part of this integration, I want to add some extra jars and and a properties file. Googling around, I discovered overlays. However, in all the examples I've seen, it looks the the wars that are being overlayed, were themselves generated by Maven, and thus Maven can figure out dependencies, conflicts, etc. between the two. I'm just wondering if there's a way for me to overlay this 3rd-party war with this extra stuff I want. If so, what would that look like in the pom.xml?

Use of bit-torrent for large file download as an alternative to FTP

The company I work for procures large volumes of data and does this by subscribing to FTP locations. I was wondering if it is possible to download the same using a tracker, the major challenge is authentication of the users IMO. Most ftp servers we subscribe to have a restriction of the number of ftp connection attempts. Does any one here have any experience with this? Any advice is welcome. Edit To clarify, we subscribe to third party vendors and access their ftp location using credentials provided by them. The service is not exclusive to us, they do sell their data to several others. If we could be part of the swarm, the download rates would be pretty high without added penalty. The question is about the possibility of achieving this, so that we can put-forth a proposal in those lines. The vendors obviously wouldn't share data to non-subscribers, so that is a constraint.

Hello. I've got a new project, and currently I'm trying to set it correctly. But somehow I can't make my media files work. Here's my current setting : MEDIA_ROOT = os.path.normpath( '/home/budzyk/rails/fandrive/site_media/' ) templates setting work on the other hand : TEMPLATE_DIRS = ( "/home/budzyk/rails/fandrive/templates", ) Catalog with media files is ../fandrive/site-media/ so why it's not working ? How can I avoid causing memory leaks in Firefox?

It seems that there is a lot of information on memory leaks in IE and how web developers can avoid them, but I can't find much on avoiding leaks in FF. I've found lots of random tips on how end users can tweak their preferences, or tips for extension developers, but little on what I can do as a web developer to make sure my pages don't leak. Am I missing something? It seems lazy to just blame it on the user and say "you've got too many extensions". Or are the major patterns the same as in IE -- circular references and all that? Also, if anyone knows of any tools to troubleshoot leaks in FF, that would be great. Finding the heaviest of N objects using M scales

We have N objects and M scales. It's up to us what the objects are, and we need to position the objects on the scales so that it is undoubtful which is the heaviest object. For example, if we have 3 objects: "a", "b", "c" and 2 scales, one possible solution is "a" "b", "b" = "c" (here "a" is the heaviest). I need an algorithm which generates such solutions given N and M. Also let's assume that "a" is always the heaviest object. I've lost a few hours figuring out how to do it, but no matter what I figure out, there's always cases which I miss. For example, another solution is: "a" + "c" = 2 * "b", "a" "c".

Writing a script to bypass college login page

My college has a silly login page that requires you to download a whole bunch of garbage that a lot of us don't need (Norton Anti-virus, Antispyware software, etc.). We have to have them running to get on the internet on campus. Though, if you are on Linux, or at least set your user-agent to linux, the requirements are gone. We could easily use Firefox with the useragent switcher to bypass this, but it'd be nice to create a script that automates this. How would this be possible? I figure this could be written in python, and could grab the webpage with curl specifying a user agent? How would I go about posting the data back to the servers? Thanks

How to I get raw 'mouse' events with touch screens on Windows Vista/7?

Does anyone have a clue how to completely disable the touch/tablet 'magic' introduced in Windows Vista? When I follow the steps on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb969148(VS.85).aspx (both SetProp disable and WM_TABLET_QUERYSYSTEMGESTURESTATUS override) I succeed in stopping windows from treating press-and-hold as a right-click (it correctly gives me a WM_LBUTTONDOWN), but it also gives me a premature WM_LBUTTONUP (before I really let go of the screen). And there is also another problem: a click followed by a drag (down, up, down, move) is treated as a double-click (down, up, down, up, move). These issues occur with two very different touch screens (so it is not a hardware problem), and it never used to happen with Windows XP. This really bugs me. I would much rather have the raw input events like you have for normal mouse clicks. Any ideas?

I'm a developer (and therefore a tester) of a website. Our site accepts any JavaScript or HTML from an user but I haven't been successful in explaining the danger of it, as obvious as it is. So I would like to prove it by logging in as my boss to prove to him that there is definitely a real danger here. I think this will put down any of his arguments and let us move onto filtering content like this. (note this question is not about filtering, or other suggestions on JavaScript tricks) I already know how to steal the value of the document.cookie variable with AJAX and a PHP file, but once you have that string of name=value;name=value;..., how do you apply it to your own browser? This is programming related because I am asking about tools which will help me debug my web program.

Detect if an assembly is available

I'm implementing an installer in Java, that is supposed to download and install an application for non-privileged users in Windows (from XP and up). The application is written in C++, and depend on the usual VC runtime-libraries (msvcm90.dll and friends). In order to save bandwidth, I want to avoid downloading the VC redistributables if they already are available for the user. I do however have a problem finding a reliable method to detect if an assembly is installed. If the assembly is missing, I will deploy it as described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms235291%28VS.80%29.aspx So the question is simply how to detect if a (any) assembly is installed on the machine. It's no requirement that this can be done from Java. I can easily write a small probe in C++ and link it statically for the task. jgaa

The mybb_userfields is the table that contain custom profile field data that they are able to customize & change in their profile. Now, all I want to do is display all users in rows with the custom profile field data that they provided in their profile(which is in the mybb_userfields table) How can I display these fields correctly together? For instance, p0gz is a male,lives in AZ,he owns a 360,does not know his bandwidth & Flip Side Phoenix is his team. How can it just be like "p0gz-male-az-360-dont know-flipside phoenix" in a row~???

VS 2008 - Procedure to ship C#/WPF solution to ensure compatibility

I am attempting to collaborate on a C#/WPF project with another developer remotely via e-mail; and although the code compiles perfectly when it leaves, my collaborator has not been able to compile the code on his side. We are both using VS 2008 Version 9. This is the first time trying to work with someone else on an application and I was hoping that someone would advise me if there are any suggestions to obtain and ensure compatibility between the two of us? Additionally, is there a recommended procedure to prepare the solution for shipment (ie. just zip up the solution folder? export the application? etc.)? Thanks very much.

Hello I am trying to insert a value in a one IDENTITY column Table in SQL Server CE 3.5. I Tried the following: INSERT Target DEFAULT VALUES INSERT Target (ID) VALUES (DEFAULT) INSERT Target (ID) VALUES () But none of them worked. This is the SQL command I used to create the table (Using SQL Server Management Studio): CREATE TABLE Target( ID int NOT NULL IDENTITY (1, 1) PRIMARY KEY ); Microsoft help site (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174633%28SQL.90%29.aspx) mentions that DEFAULT values are not valid for identity columns however they do not mention any alternative. They mention something about uniqueidentifier and ROWGUID but I have not been able to make it work. I would appreciate any pointers on how to solve this problem or links to documentation about valid sql commands for sql server CE. Thank you

Alternative to Dispatch for ASP?

Hi there, we've recently stumbled across the excellent Dispatch for ASP deployment plug in. It looks great apart from one thing: It doesn't work with Visual Studio 2010, at least for us, anyway. (It's supposed to work fine.) (Yes, we've tried everything: We've managed to get Dispatch working for another FTP site, but not the main one we regularly deploy to. We have managed to connect to our main site through FileZilla FTP, so the site itself is configured correctly. All settings have been triple checked, but the software still throws up weird errors (always to do with its internal libraries).) So does anyone know of any other comparable FTP-based, deployment plug-ins for Visual Studio?

Filter Empty Directories in Package Explorer View

Is there a way in eclipse to filter/hide empty directory trees in the package explorer view? This is different than filtering directories like '.svn' or maven's target, or filtering empty packages. It's more trying to clean up empty directories trees that show up as a result of filter rules. Context- We have a generic project in our workspace that uses filters to ignore non text based files(mp3s, jpgs, etc). It allows us to quickly edit our files in eclipse. The problem is because of the filters there are a lot of empty folders present. If eclipse can ignore any empty folders due to filters it would make the project cleaner.

BeautifulSoup Parser Confusion - HTML

I'm trying to scrape some content off another site and I'm not sure why BeautifulSoup is producing this output. It is only finding a blank space inside the match, but the real HTML contains a large amount of markup. I apologize if this is something stupid on my part. I'm new to python. How do I download an attachment from an annotation using client-side JScript?

I'm trying to provide a link to the attachment of a note through the client-side JScript. The standard MS-made Notes component does this through the following url: [serverurl]/[appname]/Activities/Attachment/download.aspx?AttachmentType=5&AttachmentId={blahblahblah}&IsNotesTabAttachment=1&CRMWRPCToken=blahblahblah&CRMWRPCTokenTimeStamp=blahblahblah The problem is that I don't know how to get the Token or TokenTimeStamp, so I'm receiving an Access Denied error ("form is no longer available, security precaution, etc"). The only other way I can think of doing this is through the OData endpoint, but that would at best get me a base64 string that I still would have translate into a filestream to give to the browser (all of which seems like it would take forever to implement/figure out). Access outer class from inner class: Why is it done this way?

So most of us know how to access an outer class from an inner class. Searches with those words give oodles of answered questions on that topic. But what I want to know is why the syntax is the way it is. Example: public class A { private class B { public void c() {A.this.d();} } public void d() {System.out.println("You've called d()! Go, you!");} } Why is it A.this.d()? It looks like this is a static field of class A, but... * am confused * Forgive me if this is a repeat; like I said, searches with those words give how-answers.

what are your biggest complaints about TFS as source-control?

I've used TFS for about 18 months now and I'm really not excited about it. It seems like the worst of the current versions of SCMs on the market. I think this thread will help people decide if TFS is for them vs. other source control systems. While TFS does a lot more than that, I think that source control is so critical to software development that any system (or combination thereof) that you pick needs to consider source control first. So, feel free to sound off. Maybe it'll make us feel better and be informative at the same time.
