• displaying .aspx and .aspx.cs files such that its not understood by the browser

  i have to give the user the option to upload his own aspx and aspx.cs files on to the server, adjust the hyperlink to point to a page which would do the following display the aspx and aspx.cs files code onto the page without actually rendering the code the browser should not understand anything, and while reading the files to display them the method be such that nothing is processed on the server regarding the code within the files to prevent from unnecessary problems many user would try to cause. i have tried many ways of displaying it but it ends up on displaying the actual comments instead of the code. please suggest with links to examples how to achieve the above. please note main concentration is on asp.net and c# using vs08, so j script and ready-made tools be avoided if feasible thank you all

• Subversion Repository Layout

  Most subversion tools create a default repository layout with /trunk, /branches and /tags. The documentation also recommends not using separate repositories for each project, so that code can be more easily shared. Following that advice has led to me having a repository with the following layout: /trunk /Project1 /Project2 /branches /Project1 /Project2 /tags /Project1 /Project2 and so on, you get the idea. Over time, I've found this structure a bit clumsy and it occurred to me that there's an alternative interpretation of the recommendations, such as: /Project1 /trunk /branches /tags /Project2 /trunk /branches /tags So, which layout do people use, and why? Or - is there another way to do things that I've completely missed?

  Hi all, I am using the latest Eclipse for Java EE & the latest JBoss Tools plugin. Now, I am working on some EJB 2.x code. I cannot find a way to generate the xdoclet-build.xml file like before. After some investigations, I begin to ask myself (and you) that is XDoclet still supported by the community: JBoss, Eclipse (WTP), etc. ? If yes, what is now the good way to use XDoclet to generate my old-style EJB Homes & Interfaces? Can XDoclet work using Java 5 style code? Thanks Alban.

• Configuration Log4j: ConsoleAppender to System.err?

  I saw that one of our tools uses a ConsoleAppender to System.err next to System.out in it's log4j configuration. Fragments of the configuration: <appender name="CONSOLE" class="org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender"> <!-- Log to STDOUT. --> <param name="Target" value="System.out"/> .... <appender name="CONSOLE_ERR" class="org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender"> <!-- Log to STDERR. --> <param name="Target" value="System.err"/> In Eclipse this results in double messages to the console, so I believe that is of no use, right? On the Linux server I see only one message to the PuTTY console, so where would that System.err message go to?

• Macros no longer working in VS2005

  I'm using VS2005 on Vista. I'm using some macros, but now they have suddenly stopped working. No error messages of any kind. I am not aware of having done anything that could trigger this. I have made sure that "Allow macros to run" is checked in Tools-Options-Addin/Macro Security. I have tried running the macros from a keyboard shortcut, from the Macro Explorer, and from the Macros IDE, all in vain: The little spinning icon displays shortly (<1 sec) and then disappears without the macro being executed. I have tried putting a breakpoint on the first line of the macro and then executing it from the main IDE, with no effect (the breakpoint isn't hit). I have tried the same from the Macro IDE: The state changes to "running", but the breakpoint isn't hit. I have to break the execution manually. Any ideas?

  My website uses a variety of technologies, such as JQuery, new CSS definitions (e.g., moz-selection, -webkit-user-select), etc. The site works perfectly with Google Chrome and Safari, but has some quirkiness in Firefox, IE, and some of the other browsers. I want to write a script to check for necessary browser features but, with several thousand lines of code and CSS definitions, I'm not certain which features I should be looking for. Is there some sort of online analysis (similar to how JSLint operates) that would tell me which features my script and CSS files need? Are there tools (like FireBug) that provide this info?

Now my question is, do you know any open source project that suit for a newbie programmer. What I mean is, the project does not have a large codebase, the project is very interesting and the project is written in C because I chose C language as their starting language but you can suggest other project made in other language. • Integration of Photoshop and MySQL

  I’m working to integrate Photoshop (CS4, local) with MySQL (Linux, remote), such that: a) image file information, data and meta data can be exported from PS into MySQL where same can be manipulated both manually and calculated, and then b) the MySQL fields can be referenced in Photoshop scripting for further automated image file manipulation, and c) the MySQL fields can be referenced for other purposes such as dynamic propagation of files and associated file data to a website, for example. I’ve spent many hours running searches for these concepts on StackOverflow, Google, and Adobe Support. I’m coming up empty, which leads me to believe that it’s not natively possible, and that I’ll need some middle language like PHP. Does anyone know if it’s possible for Photoshop and MySQL to bi-directionally share data? If so, how? If that’s not possible, what solution(s) might you recommend, in terms of specific tools/technologies that I can research further. Thank you.

  Hello guys, there are three (open) questions about the internationalization of GWT, I have: 1) Is it a (huge) performance issue, to use only "Messages" for constant and parameterized text (that's possible), where you would use both "Messages" and "Constants" usually? 2) Is there a way to specify the original text in the source code, whose translations can then be specified somewhere? (e.g. Translate("Hello") in the source code and than in a properties file for e.g. spanish: Hello = ¡Hola!) 3) Do you know any translation-tools, which generate the properties and interfaces for you?   Building on another SO question, how can one check whether two well-formed XML snippets are semantically equal. All I need is "equal" or not, since I'm using this for unit tests. • Visualize compiler warnings

  I'm looking for a way to visualize compiler warnings and remarks, by annotating or otherwise showing which lines cause a report. This is much like a modern IDE like NetBeans or Eclipse already does, but I'd like to take output from several compilers (and other static code analysis tools) at once, and create one single annotation in order to get a better overview. The rationale is that we've seen some problems go completely undetected by, say, Visual Studio 2005, but accurately detected with a proprietary ARM compiler, and vice versa. Cross-referencing warnings could potentially locate problems better, but doing so completely manually is infeasible. Have you heard of such a tool? Could an open-source IDE like Eclipse be extended to use several compilers at once, or has it already been done?

• Testing installation package in OpenSolaris

  Testing my "configure - make - make install" installation package on OpenSolaris, I found that all required files are placed to expected locations. usr/local/bin contains myprogram file. If I type in command line: /usr/local/bin/myprogram, it is working. However, typing "myprogram" without path does not work. Is /usr/local/bin directory included in OpenSolaris executable path? If not, why autoconfig tools place my executable to this directory? Installation package is created in Ubuntu.

• VSTS 2008 Load testing, Is it any good?

  I have already spent couple of weeks trying to use this tool to generate some webtest and load test. But every day it throws a weird problem for which I do not find anything in document. examples: Hidden variables (_lastfocus) not found in the context error. Today, all of sudden it is now refusing to run some of the webtest which are part of the test mix in my load test run (is working fine with another load test). Are enterprise level, expensive tools are only good? (like loadrunner, silkperformer etc).

  We've run into some problems with the static initialization order fiasco, and I'm looking for ways to comb through a whole lot of code to find possible occurrences. Any suggestions on how to do this efficiently? Edit: I'm getting some good answers on how to SOLVE the static initialization order problem, but that's not really my question. I'd like to know how to FIND objects that are subject to this problem. Evan's answer seems to be the best so far in this regard; I don't think we can use valgrind, but we may have memory analysis tools that could perform a similar function. That would catch problems only where the initialization order is wrong for a given build, and the order can change with each build. Perhaps there's a static analysis tool that would catch this. Our platform is IBM XLC/C++ compiler running on AIX.

• How do you measure latency in low-latency environments?

  Here's the setup... Your system is receiving a stream of data that contains discrete messages (usually between 32-128 bytes per message). As part of your processing pipeline, each message passes through two physically separate applications which exchange the data using a low-latency approach (such as messaging over UDP) or RDMA and finally to a client via the same mechanism. Assuming you can inject yourself at any level, including wire protocol analysis, what tools and/or techniques would you use to measure the latency of your system. As part of this, I'm assuming that every message that is delivered to the system results in a corresponding (though not equivalent) message being pushed through the system and delivered to the client. The only tool that I've seen on the market like this is TS-Associates TipOff. I'm sure that with the right access you could probably measure the same information using a wire analysis tool (ala wireshark) and the right dissectors, but is this the right approach or are there any commodity solutions that I can use?

A company called Plaxo has a widget that does exactly what I am looking for, BUT: They only support a limited number of data sources (I am most interested in ACT, Salesforce, Outlook, and QuickBooks), and They only support e-mail addresses. • How to view Mercurial changeset changes using a GUI diff tool

  We use both Examdiff and Kdiff3 to view Mercurial changes. Just add this to .hgrc: [extdiff] cmd.kdiff3 = cmd.examdiff = C:\Program Files\ExamDiff Pro\ExamDiff.exe And then you can type hg examdiff or hg diff3 to see a complete diff of all your changes. What I would like is to do the same to see a "before and after" of files for a given changeset that was checked in by someone else. I know you can type hg log to see all changesets and then hg log -vprXX to see a text diff, but that's too hard for my GUI preferring eyes. Anyone know how to the equivalent with the GUI tools?

• Create mp3 previews from wav and aiff files

  I would like to create a program that makes mp3s of the first 30 seconds of an aiff or wav file. I would also like to be able to choose location and length, such as the audio between 2:12 and 2:42. Are there any tools that lets me do this? Shelling out is OK. The application will run on a linux server, so it would have to be a tool that works on linux. I don't mind doing it in two steps - i.e. a tool that first creates the cutout of the aiff/wav, then pass it to a mp3 encoder.

• NetBeans ("6.8" and "later") - UML support?

  Hello, I wanted to download the "UML plugin" to NetBeans through the "Tools/Plugins" but I didn't find the plugin there. Then I read in many articles that the "NetBeans UML plugin is not supported anymore" :-( . Then I discovered that there exists some "NetBeans SDE" tool that supports the UML in NetBeans and there exists the "Comunity Edition" of that tool which is free, but only for "non-commercial" uses - so it's not open-source - and so I don't want to use it. So I would like to ask, if Sun (or whoever else who officially maintains (or maintained in the past) the NetBeans UML plugin) is not going to support the UML plugin to NetBeans anymore and if so, is there any "open-source" UML plugin which is supported in version "6.8" and "later" and if so - which? • Cannot Debug Unmanaged Dll from C#

  I have a DLL that was written in C++ and called from a C# application. The DLL is unmanaged code. If I copy the DLL and its .pdb files with a post build event to the C# app's debug execution dir I still can't hit any break points I put into the DLL code. The break point has a message attached to it saying that "no symbols have been loaded for this document". What else do I have to do to get the debugging in the dll source? I have "Tools-Options-Debugging-General-Enable only my code" Disabled. The DLL is being compiled with "Runtime tracking and disable optimizations (/ASSEMBLYDEBUG)" and Generate Debug Info to "Yes (/DEBUG)"

• How to monitor and maintain my grails application in live/production environment?

  It is the first time I have ever launched live a website (with Grails web framework under Amazon EC2 platform and Cloud Foundry) and I realized quickly that I am not ready for monitoring and maintening correctly my application in production mode (fortunately the website is accessible to a very limited number of users) . The issues I have faced so far are: Cannot change my views. I need to redeploy my application I have no monitoring. I don't know who is connected, when do they sign in / sign out... Redploying my application (upload WAR + deploy) takes at least 30 minutes. I don't know how to restart my Tomcat server without a redeploy through Cloud Foundry ! ... So, my question is very simple: What tools (including grails plugins) and methods can you recommend me for taking me out from my current blindness?

  How do I generate hibernate domain classes from tables with annotations at field level? I used Hibernate Tools project and generated domain classes from the tables in the database. The generated classes have annotations on the getter methods rather than at the field level. Kindly advice a way to generate domain classes that have the fields annotated. • Best way to auto-restore db on an houlry basis

  Hello, I have a demo site where anyone can login and test a management interface. Every hour I would like to flush all the data in the SQL 2008 Database and restore it from the original. Rae Gate sql has some awesome tools for this, however they are beyond my budget right now. Could I simply make a backup copy of the database's data file, then have a c# console app that deletes it and copies over the original. Then I can have a windows schedule task to run the .exe every hour. It's simple and free... would this work? I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2 Web edition I understand that red gate is technically better because I can set it to analyze the db and only update the records that were altered, and the approach I have above is like a "sledge hammer".

  My Visual Studio 2005 is a French one, installed on a French OS. All the exceptions I receive during debug or runtime I obtain also in French. Can I however do something that the exceptions messages be in English? For goggling, discussing etc. I tried the following: Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo("en-US"); throw new NullReferenceException(); obtained Object reference not set to an instance of an object. This is, surely, cool... but, as I work on a French project, I will not hardcode forcing Thread.CurrentUICulture to English. I want the English change to be only on my local machine, and don't change the project properties. Is it possible to set the exceptions language without modifying the code of the application? • Can't use ProcessWindowStyle.Minimized to start Firefox instance minimized?

  I'm having trouble using Process.Start with Firefox. I want to start a new instance of Firefox in a minimized window. The following works fine with Internet Explorer, notepad, etc.: ProcessStartInfo p = new ProcessStartInfo(); p.FileName = "iexplore.exe"; p.Arguments = "http://www.google.com"; p.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Minimized; Process.Start(p); This opens IE in a new, minimized window. Good, just what I want. If I try the exact same thing but instead supply Firefox in the p.FileName, it opens Firefox in a "normal" window, rather than minimized. I've tried various changes to arguments, also have tried examining my local Firefox settings (under Tools/Options) with no luck. I'm sure I'm just missing something simple, but can't figure out what it is. If anyone can help me with getting Firefox opened in a minimized state it would be greatly appreciated!
