• Porting Django's templates engine to C

  Hi folks, I recently wrote a simple and tiny embedded HTTP server for my C++ app (QT) and I played a little bit with Ry's http-parser and loved it. This guy is crazy. So I told to myself: "Hey! Why not port the django template engine to C?" That'd be awesome! I know, it won't be an easy task (not at all, I know) but I'd really love to implement this. So I came here for inspiration, ideas, opinions... I'd really love to have some pointers on the subject, ideas, what is already done, which major problems I'll encounter (and how to solve them) - How not to reinvent the wheel... anyway, you got the idea :) Thanks a million times! P.S. Simple code snippets, and links to tools and libs are very welcome! P.P.S. I'm already aware of grantlee, I took a look into its sources. Well... that's C++ and its specific to Qt.

• JQuery "Any Row" Picker

  Hi All, I'm looking for a generic "Row Picker" for JQuery. We've all seen the cool "Picker" tools like date pickers, color pickers, time pickers, etc, where you click in a text box and a little calendar or color palate or clock or something comes up. You select something (like a date) and the text box is then populated with a value. I really need an all-purpose "row picker" where you can populate something (a table, divs, etc) with some rows of data (say a list of timezones). This would be linked to a text field and would pop up when the user clicks in the field. They would click a row (say a timezone), and the timezone id would be passed back to the field. Anyone know of anything that does this? Thanks!

• Wordpress custom pages CMS

  Hi guys, I'm considering Wordpress as my CMS platform for a client site I'm doing at the moment. However, I need to create a couple of custom 'modules'. One of these modules is a form that people will be able to complete and have a quote, and once submitted, in a special place in the Wordpress panel (like a menu or something), there will be a listing of all the submitted quotes (just fetching it from a table in my database). Another one is to manage a cafeteria menu, so the client can add a different meal to each day of the week. I know perfectly how to do this kind of things using some kind of MVC framework and doing it 'by-hand', but I'm just wondering if this would be possible to do with WP and if yes, what kind of tools I'll have to use. • Linking IronPython to WPF

  I just installed VS2010 and the great new IronPython Tools extension. Currently this extension doesn't yet generate event handlers in code upon double-clicking wpf visual controls. Is there anyone that can provide or point me to an example as to how to code wpf event handlers manually in python. I've had no luck finding any and I am new to visual studio. • Using GLOrtho to view Side, Front, Top perspectives of a 3D scene

  Dear all, I'm building a game level editing app as part of a university project. In my application I have multiple viewports, a Perspective viewport and three orthographic views all setup to view the same scene. I've successfuly setup the orthographic views and can translate and scale them to mimic scrolling and zooming. Unfortunately, I'm having one problem - my scene still contains 3 dimensions, so objects viewed in orthographic mode of certain depths are clipped when they fall outside of my clipping volume. Most 3D authoring tools or level editors allow you to view all objects in orthographic mode regardless of depth. I guess what I need to do is scale my scene in the appropriate dimension so that all values lie between 1 and -1, is there a straightforward way of going about this? Basically I have to extract the requirements of jobs like required education, skills or any development tools etc. I'd store these requirements in the database and then further use these in my application. For example '1' AND 1=1-- Should break down into tokens like [0] => [SQL_STRING, '1'] [1] => [SQL_AND] [2] => [SQL_INT, 1] [3] => [SQL_AND] [4] => [SQL_INT, 1] [5] => [SQL_COMMENT] [6] => [SQL_QUERY_END] Are their any at least lexers for SQL that I base mine off of or any good tools like bison for C# (though I'd rather not write my own grammar as I need to support most if not all the grammar of MySQL 5)

• What helpful tactics have you employed to keep your development team on-track?

  I realize that this is a subjective question, so I've marked it as a community wiki. I think that it is pretty specific to programming teams, though, so I've posted it here as opposed to somewhere else. I'm leading a small game development team (four people) as a side project. We are a disjoint team, with everyone in different places, but we do have some of the mainstays of an organized team. Source Control Continuous Integration Bug Tracking Document Workspace Regular Meetings Calendar / Schedule How do you keep your small, disjoint teams on-track? I tend to agree with Joel's opinion about when and how to micromanage and know that my team is motivated, but it can be easy to fall off-course when everyone isn't connected in a physical way and doesn't see what other people on the team are doing. Suggestions, feedback, or criticisms are welcome! Edit: I'm managing the team; I'm not looking for automated tools or anything to do my job for me, just ideas for approach or process that might help everyone feel more "connected" and involved.

  I'm considering developing a medium-size project for a client in IronPython. It's a pretty straightforward replacement for an existing system I've been supporting for several years, so the specification is quite well defined and understood. This is my first significant IronPython and .Net project so I'm expecting a bit of a learning curve. I was going to use SharpeDevelop, but I can purchase VisualStudion 2010 for a reasonable price and whilst I understood that IronPython Tools for Visual Studio 2008 were not so good, I haven't seen anything about the update for 2010 yet. Has anyone used either or both of these in a reasonable-sized commercial environment and do you have any recommendations? (and I'm aware of this question, but this is specifically about VS2010)

• How to organize asp.net mvc project (using entity framework) and a corresponding database project?

  I recently switched to vs2010 and am experimenting with asp.net MVC2. I am building a simple website and use the entity framework to design the data model. From the .edmx file, I generate the database tables. After a few iterations, I decided that it would be nice to have version control of the database schema as well, and therefore I added a database project into which I imported the script that is generated from the datamodel. As a result, I have to generate the sql every time that I change the model and redo the import. The database project automatically updates the database. Although the manual steps to generate the sql and the import are annoying, this works pretty well, until I wanted to add the standard tables for user accounts/authorization etc. I can use the framework tools to add the necessary tables, views etc. to the database, but as I do not want to have them in the .edmx model I end up with a third manual step. Is anybody facing similar issues?

• Automated testing of a website for IE7 javascript errors?

  This week I decided to add a new element to a javascript array by copying a similar one from a previous line; unfortunately I forgot to remove the comma so the end result was something like var a = [1, 2, 3,]. The code went live late Friday afternoon just before everyone left for the week-end, and it completely broke everything in Internet Explorer 7 (and lower I assume) since it's such a great browser. Since there was no one to read emails (week-end) it went unnoticed for quite a while, and I really don't want something like this to happen again (especially in my code).. This is not the first of weird IE7 problems; I was wondering if there was a way to automatically test key pages looking for javascript or css errors, or really anything that IE8 would output in its new console in development tools. If there isn't, what do you usually do? You test the website after every change with all the browsers you support? (Something I'll do from now, at least for IE, if there is no way to run automated tests)

• How do I properly load the jQuery fullcalendar plugin in a hidden div

  I'm using the jQuery tools tabs to divide my page into tabs. One of those tabs contain a jQuery Fullcalendar. Because I load JavaScript last in the page for speed and to avoid flash of unstyled content, I hide the initially unseen tabs using display:none. When doing this, the fullcalendar doesn't render properly. It shows the proper buttons, but until I press the today-button, no calendar is shown. If I allow it to render into a visible div, it displays properly. I can work around this using the tab-select events to render the calendar or by moving the calendar and tab scripts to the head, but I'd rather if there was a more proper solution.

  I have the following code in a project that write's the ascii representation of packet to a unix tty: int written = 0; int start_of_data = 3; //write data to fifo while (length) { if ((written = write(fifo_fd, &packet[start_of_data], length)) == -1) { printf("Error writing to FIFO\n"); } else { length -= written; } } I just want to take the data that would have been written to the socket and put it in a variable. to debug, I have just been trying to printf the first letter/digit. I have tried numerous ways to get it to print out, but I keep getting hex forms (I think). The expected output is: 13176 and the hex value is: 31 33 31 37 36 0D 0A (if that is even hex) Obviously my C skills are not the sharpest tools in the shed. Any help would be appreciated.

I see the idea behind unit testing, and I'm coding an silverlight application much in the blind right now, and I'd like to write some unit tests to kind of be sure I'm on the right path. I'd like to be able to use the SL4 vs 2010 silverlight unit test project template, to keep it simple and not use external tools. So what I need an answer for are questions like: what are the methods of unit testing? what are the differences between unit tests, and automated unit tests? How do I meaningfully unit test in silverlight? What should I be aware of while unit testing (in silverlight) ? Also should I implement some kind of IRepository pattern in my silverlight app to make unit testing easier?

  On Firefox, I click Tools, Addons, Extensions, Greasemonkey, Options, select my user script, click Edit, change the source code, reload one of the included pages, but the script is the unchanged version. On User Scripts, logged in, I click my username, Script Management, my script's name, Admin, Edit Code Online, change the source code, click save, the link to the install page, install and the script is the changed version. How did you turn on Live Editing? While following Greasemonkey tutorials, this feature is not working... Are you going to use the "works on my computer" excuse? Should this be on the Stack Overflow sister site Super User?

• Customizing scrollable plugin with prevpage and nextpage over the image? (see mock up)

  Hi, I am implementing a scrollable for a portfolio gallery. (scrollable = scrollable plugin from http://flowplayer.org/tools/index.html ) There will be one item visible at a time. By default, scrollable positions the prev/next buttons outside of the image area and clicking on the current image advances the scrollable content. I would like to have the prev/next render within the image area. I would like to have an image caption appear when mousing over the lower part of the image.   I have IIS 6.0 on Windows Server 2003. I installed .Net 3.5 and 4 beta 2. "Normal" asp things are working (perfect). But when I try to navigate to my service (/myServer/MyService.svc) I got a 404. Page not found. To be exact, I got a 404 2 "Web service extension lockdown policy prevents this request." I used ServiceModelReg.exe /ia to make sure that the extension I known and I checked the configuration using: admin-Tools, iis, home-tab, configuration, executable-box, and there: extension: .svc, path: c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v4.0.210... verbs: all verbs So everything seems ok. But I still get a 404-2

• sproutcore or cappucino for web app development?

  I recently found out about the sproutcore and capuccino frameworks for web app development as proper MVC approach to creating Desktop-like applications. As far as I could understand, the main difference between the two frameworks is that Cappucino abstracts away the HTML+CSS+Javascript to Objective-J - a new programming language developed be the creators of Capuccino that adds OO capabilities to Javascript, whereas Sproutcore uses HTML5,CSS,Javascript. After lots of pondering, I thought it's probably best to go with technologies we know, so I downloaded the Sproutcore tools and did the tutorials, and I have to say I was very impressed. Just the kind of thing I was looking for, for organizing a complex web app. However, I just stumbled across the following link: http://charlesjolley.sys-con.com/node/1341228 in which Charles Jolley (the creator of Sproutcore) syas that he's tired of waiting for the HTML5 and ECMAScript5 specs to get finalized, and announces that from version 1.1 onwards they will be switching to Objective-J ! So now the question is - what will actually differentiate Sproutcore and Capuccino - and which one should I choose now? Kind Regards Swami

  Hi all My Delphi app has created a squence called frame_001.png to frame_100.png. I need that to be compiled into a movie clip. I think perhaps the easiest is to call ffmpeg from the command line, according to their documentation: For creating a video from many images: ffmpeg -f image2 -i foo-%03d.jpeg -r 12 -s WxH foo.avi The syntax foo-%03d.jpeg specifies to use a decimal number composed of three digits padded with zeroes to express the sequence number. It is the same syntax supported by the C printf function, but only formats accepting a normal integer are suitable. My command line is now: ffmpeg.exe -f image2 -i c:\temp\wentelreader\frame_%05d.jpg -r 12 foo.avi But then I get the error: [image2 @ 0x133a7d0]Could not find codec parameters (Video: mjpeg) c:\temp\wentelreader\Frame_C:\VID2EVA\Tools\Mencoder\wentel.bat5d.jpg: could not find codec parameters What am I doing wrong? Alternatively can this be done easily with Delphi?

  Hi, recently I discovered that "executing" a C program as a release build instead of a debug build optimizes the code and makes it run much faster. This is accessed through project properties configuration manager menu. I would like to know if this feature is the same in the professional version and the express edition of MVS 2010 in terms of speed optimization. I have the express edition. Also, I would like to know if C programs run with the same speed as in both the professional and express editions.   If I want to use the name baz defined in package foo|bar|quz, I've several choices: provide fbq as a short name for foo|bar|quz and use fbq|baz use foo|bar|quz|baz import baz from foo|bar|quz|baz and then use baz (or an alias given in the import process) import all public symbols from foo|bar|quz|baz and then use baz For the languages I know, my perception is that the best practice is to use the first two ways (I'll use one or the other depending on the specific package full name and the number of symbols I need from it). I'd use the third only in a language which doesn't provide the first and hunt for supporting tools to write the import statements. And in my opinion the fourth should be reserved to package designed with than import in mind, for instance if all exported symbols start with a prefix or contains the name of the package. My questions: what is in your opinion the best practice for your favorite languages? what would you suggest in a new language? what would you suggest in an old language adding such a feature?

  Hello Dynamics CRM gurus :) My boss asked me to do a research on available CMSes on market because cms we are using currently is rather a mess. For me as a .NET developer it would be great to choose and implement Dynamics CRM because of extensibility and perfect integration with .NET environment and well-known tools. All marketing blahbla sounds great but I'd like to know about common DISADVANTAGES, ISSUES concerning this system. The most important is how it is performing in a company with about 150 concurrent and very active users. I heard that is't really slow comparing to competitors system.
