  I know I can simply write to the CommandBandLayout regkey but since I don't know what format it is I'm having doubts if that is safe. Also, this answer suggest it's the wrong solution: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1239266/how-to-modify-commandbandlayout-reg-key-value But how can I change the order a bit? I have written an Internet Explorer Add-on and I've registered it by putting it in HKCU but by default it falls off the screen so users are having trouble finding it. I would like to make the bar wider or move the button back in the screen.

• Presentation with latex, changing the width in each frame

  Hello, In my presentation, I use "\usetheme{Warsaw}" and in order to increase the usable space in each frame, I use "\useoutertheme{infolines}". In this way, the bar at the bottom of each page is equally divided between author's name, title, and date and slide number. Is there anyway to change the width of each section? For example, I need more space for the title compared to author's name or date. Any comment is highly appreciated. • Getting progress status out of a class library method

  This app that I am doing uses a class library (if I dare call it that) to do the bulk of the work: 2 main methods in there (DoWork and UndoWork) use the other classes to achieve thier goal. Now that that works, I want to get out of the Console test enviroment and do a GUI. How would I get the status of say, the DoWork() method to update a progress bar? Should I multilate the class library (which currently works with the Console and Windows.Forms) to update? The problem with that is that I would surely have to make the class library use Window.Forms which will mess up the console testing apps (And there are lots of them - I tested all the way through, and then all together). Could you suggest some ideas, or places I can read up about ideas (the whole point of writing this this program is to learn, afer all)? Oh, by the way, suggestions like "foresight" or "planning" probably won't help here...(now, anywyay!) - But certainly will in future projects!

• AJAX: Statusbar: force update of UpdatePanel while function executes

  Hi Guys, I have a label inside an update panel which I wouldl ike to use as a status bar. Basically the user clicks a button which executes a main fucntion that performs a series of tasks. I'd like to inform the user as to the state of the function as it progresses e.g.: Stage 1: Retrieving data... Stage 2: Calculating values... Stage 3: Printing values... Stage 4: Done! I've tried updating the updatepanel directly from the function but it only updates the panel at the end of function (stage 4) and shows "Done!" (which I understand is how it should work). I've been looking into timers and threads to try and update the panel seperate to the main function but I thought I'd post here incase anyone has any better ideas? Thanks for any help in advance! • C# Processing Enter Key on Custom Container

  I am currently building a custom container control. Everything was going along smoothly until I hit a snag during testing. I noticed that the Enter key is not getting processed to the control that has focus inside the container. Everything else works as expected though. I am able to click the button with either the mouse or space bar, but enter does not want to get processed. After doing endless searches on container controls and processing the enter key I have come up with no solution. I tried returning Enter as true in IsInputKey(Keys keyData) and that didn't work. Neither did setting KeyPreview on the form. I have tried it with my custom button and .NET's standard button. Like I mentioned earlier, spacebar will trigger the desired effect. Please tell me what I am missing. There has to be an easy / stupid simple way to get Enter to process over to the active child control.

• How to load secure S3 images into Flex with temporary URLs

  I have some secure images on S3 that I need to load into Flex. I was expecting to be able to do this using signed temporary URLs but can't get it working. I know the URLs I'm generating are correct, because they load fine in my browsers' address bar. Moreover, Flex has no problem loading my images with a non-signed url when they are public, but as soon as I try signing the urls all the images fail, whether public or not. I've tried image.source = signedURL, image.load(signedURL), etc. If I try loading the file with URLLoader/URLStream, it looks like I'm getting the data OK, but I'm not sure how to translate those results to an Image control. Is this just an issue with the Image control not being able to recognize signed urls? Do I have to load the image from a byte array? What would that look like?

• preventing jCarousel form returning to begining position after loading page

  Hi all, i am using jCarousel as a menu in my website. there is a list of links there which is longer than its containing elements and jCarousel is used as a scroll bar to view that list. my problem is that whenever a link is clicked and a new page is loaded, jCarousel resets to its begining position thus sometimes an active link is no longer visible after the page reloads. any idea how i can make jCarousel focus on the specific active link? you can see an example of what i mean here: http://174.133.190.8/~goldarch/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=50&Itemid=57 (check out the menu on top) thank you all.

I am using the Codeigniter framework but I am not sure if the problem lies there. Also using %20 or just a space in the url bar produces no different results. • Suggestions for a very easy to edit CMS?

  I need advice/suggestions. At my place of work - we have a large data set. We would like to server the data up as editable html pages. (Its mostly lists of simple text) We would like to add data, change it's order, update text etc...from the editable pages. It has to have a pretty low bar for usability and WYSIWYG is a must. The folks who will edit are not programmers by a long shot. We are not sure Wiki will work. It might have to do - but not sure. Changes have to be tracked and written back into the DB I am thinking some kind of open source CMS might work? Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal - something that can get us up and running pretty quickly. I really am open to suggestions - not sure where to begin on this one. Thanks all

• Toshiba Laptop Problem - Black Screen on Startup [using Win Vista]

  Hi guys, can anyone help me on my problem? I only see black screen after the startup.. It just shows the logo and the status bar upon start, then it goes black screen with moveable cursor. I tried alt+ctrl+del, but it doesn't work. I pressed shift 5 times and it makes a sound. I already removed battery and restarted it, but still the same. I can go to safe mode and scanned thru there. Still, desktop won't show up. Don't know what else to check? Been searching the net for solutions. Please help? :(

  My .ocx contains two ActiveX controls and I use both of them on one page. When user comes to page he gets two install confirmations for the same binary. After the first installation and page reload he gets one control displayed and “the website wants to run the following add-on...” yellow bar with control’s run confirmation for the other. I have only two possible solutions: Adding my CLSID’s to IE’s pre-approved control list, but I guess I cannot do it in the case of Non-Admin installation. Besides I consider this way as unreliable. Use the third control-container for hosting all other controls. It seems to my too complicated. Actually I’m not sure it can be done. Controls are used from the WEB, so I cannot use any administrative tools for installation. Is it possible to do all installation actions with one step without twice installation or run confirmation? Are there any “Best practices” for my case?

  I want to create a browser based game and I have a huge problem, the game can be easily hacked. The problem is at a page where you can go to "work", I store in a file the work ending date and the amount of money what you will receive after finishing the work. There are 4 type of works. The problem is that I use ajax to send to a php file the necessary information. The URL looks like this x.php?date=....&pay=.... The javascript part of the page calculates the date and the pay but if you simply enter in your URL bar x.php?date=anynumber&pay=99999 you will receive that 99999 dollars. What should I do ? And sorry for my bad english :)

  Hi, I'm working on a pure css menu that consists of four levels Level 1 and 2 are a dropline menu in style Levels 3+ are dropdown menus When you hover over a level 1 menu item, the level 2 menu displays directly below menu item you are currently hovering over. However if there are lots of menu items on level 2 then the level 2 menu goes off the screen and you see a horizontal scroll bar. What I want to happen is that if the menu is going to go off the screen I want it to get pushed to the left. For example, if the menu was 300px long, but there was only 250px between the level 1 menu item and the edge of the page, then the level 2 menu should not be placed directly under the level 1 parent, instead it should be 50px to the left. I use a nested unordered list for the menu.

  I'm creating a custom preloader for a Flex app and have noticed the following behavior: when loading, the progress bar goes to 100%, then down then back up, and so on until the app is finished loading. When I put a trace in the dowloadprogress listener, I see that while the app is loading, both bytesLoaded and bytesTotal increase, but not necessarily at the same time. • How to prevent the copying of text from a textarea?

  I have an online typing software, which I'm currently working on. In the typing software, all is running good but I have come across the problem of dishonest users who might possibly type the text into the textarea, copy it, then reload the page (therefore resetting the timer) and pasting it in straightaway. So I was thinking along the lines of using something like evt.preventDefault(); when javascript detects the pressing of the ctrl / cmd button. But then again I realized that the user could go to the menu bar to press copy. So is there a cross-browser method to do both methods of disabling?   I have an ASP.NET MVC application that uses Linq to SQL repositories for all interactions with the database. To deal with data security, I do trimming to filter data to only those items to which the user has access. This occurs in several places: Data in list views Links in a menu bar A treeview on the left hand side containing links to content Role-based security A special security attribute, inheriting from AuthorizeAttribute, that implements content-based authorization on every controller method. Each of these places instantiates a repository, which opens a Linq to Sql DataContext and accesses the database. So, by my count, each request for a page access opens at least six separate Linq to SQL DataContexts. Should I be concerned about this from a performance perspective, and if so, what can be done to mitigate it?

If i drop the url into the address bar of the browser all is fine, but is not triggered from the javascript tag? Any ideas?

• I can't seem to connecting any of my IBOutlets between IB and XCode.

  I created a new iPhone project using the built-in "tab bar" template. I put a few sliders, labels, textfields in the view. I added in needed code for: "IBOutlet, @property, @synthesize, and release" for the above UI objects. It saves and compiles without any errors or warnings. I try to hook-up my connections with control-drag, but don't see any of my IBOutlets appearing in the list. I can't seem to "connect" any outlets from IB to my code. (My IBActions all connect fine) What did I do wrong?
