• Sparc v440 unable 2 boot after recommended patch install

  After installing the October 2011 recommended patch bundle on a Solaris 10 the host fails to boot. The output is {0} ok boot SC Alert: Host System has Reset screen not found. keyboard not found. Keyboard not present. Using ttya for input and output. Sun Fire V440, No Keyboard Copyright 1998-2003 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved. OpenBoot 4.10.10, 8192 MB memory installed, Serial #54744555. Ethernet address 0:3:ba:43:55:eb, Host ID: 834355eb. Rebooting with command: boot Boot device: /pci@1f,700000/scsi@2/disk@0,0:a File and args: \ Evaluating: Out of memory Warning: Fcode sequence resulted in a net stack depth change of 1 Evaluating: Evaluating: The file just loaded does not appear to be executable. {3} ok If I do a boot -F failsafe the host come up and I'm able to mount the root device (ufs on /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0) and nothing appears broken, i.e I can see the logfiles from the patch install etc. Root device still have 1GB+ free. Only 2 kernel patches was installed from the patch bundle: 144500-19 & 147440-02. Any hints how to debug it further, etc.

• "A disk read error occurred" when booting XP disk image in VirtualBox

  I'm trying to boot an XP installation cloned into VirtualBox from a real drive. I'm getting the message A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart whenever* I try to boot the machine. * This is not strictly true: with AMD-V enabled, the boot process appears to not make it this far and instead hangs at a black screen with cursor. I created the VirtualBox image from the original drive using the following method: $ sudo ddrescue -n /dev/sdd sdd.img logfile # completed without errors $ VBoxManage convertfromraw sdd.img disk.vdi The original disk (and the image) contain a single NTFS partition with XP installed on it. The owner of the drive indicates that it did boot okay the last time the system made it that far. The (Pentium 4) system has a broken (enormous) heat sink, so at some point it failed to boot because it would quickly overheat and shut down. If I boot the VM from a live cd, I am able to mount its /dev/sda1 without any problems. I ran ntfsfix and didn't have any luck. I've read through the instructions on doing this. I didn't really follow them. For example, I didn't run MergeIDE before imaging because the machine was not bootable. However, the symptom of that problem seems to be quite different. The emitted message is contained in the volume boot record of the XP partition, which leads me to suspect that this is a problem with the core operating system bootstrap procedure, and not related to anything in the registry. I don't have an XP boot CD.

• Can't successfully run Sharepoint Foundation 2010 first time configuration

  I'm trying to run the non-GUI version of configuration wizard using power shell because I would like to set config and admin database names. GUI wizard doesn't give you all possible options for configuration (but even though it doesn't do it either). I run this command: New-SPConfigurationDatabase -DatabaseName "Sharepoint2010Config" -DatabaseServer "developer.mydomain.pri" -AdministrationContentDatabaseName "Sharepoint2010Admin" -DatabaseCredentials (Get-Credential) -Passphrase (ConvertTo-SecureString "%h4r3p0int" -AsPlainText -Force) Of course all these are in the same line. I've broken them down into separate lines to make it easier to read. • 3D Ray Casting / Picking

  Hi, I am not sure if I should post this link, but I feel this falls into game development just as much as it does math. I have a ray cast's far and near values and I am trying to calculate the end point of the ray so that I can either draw a line to show the ray, or render an object at the end of 3d mouse position. • iSCSI, failover and XenServer

  I have an iSCSI fail over implementation setup so if one of my storage units fails the other takes over immediately (it also runs the NFS shares). When fail over occurs, volumes are exported, the IP is switched to the other machine and the targets are reconfigured. The fail over of the storage system itself works just fine. I use NexentaStor for my filer. When I do a test (manual) fail over of my storage the following occurs: Note: I run the admin VM's on NFS and customer based VM's on iSCSI All NFS based VM's remain up and working perfectly through the failover and after All VM 's running on iSCSI eventually report the following: An error about not being able to write to a particular block An error about journaling not working Then the file system goes RO To get the VM's working again I have to do the following: Force shutdown of the "broken" VM's. Detach the iSCSI SR Re-attach the iSCSI SR Boot the VM on a different server (5 in my pool) If I don't boot on a different server I get this error "Internal error: Failure("The VDI <uuid&gt; is already attached in RW mode; it can't be attached in RO mode!")" The only way I have found to fix that error is to reboot the entire server it was running on previously which is obviously a huge pain. Currently multipathing is NOT enabled (but can be and the same thing still occurs). I have edited much of the /etc/iscsid.conf file to work with the timeout settings but to no avail. In short, my storage fails over properly but XenServer does not keep the connection alive. As a thought, the error that shows up in #4 above might be the ultimate cause and fixing that would fix everything? Any help would be appreciated more than you know.

• Ubuntu 12.10 - Windows 8 Dual Boot (Tried boot-repair) - Dual OS option not showing

  as title says, this is my first time trying ubuntu. I have been trying since last week with continuous googling and searching, but still no luck. I had win8 x64 installed before, then tried installing Ubuntu 12.10 desktop (dual OS option) I tried like 10 times already, everytime it's showing installation complete, but when i restarted and boot from my HDD, dual boot option is not showing, directly to win8 startup I installed win8 on C before. I had a 104gb free drive to install linux to (it's installed already.. but the dual boot option is now showing) In case it helps, Laptop Model : Acer Aspire 4752 Intel Core i3, 2.30GHz Ram 4GB 64 Bit OS - Windows 8 Pro with Media Center This is the url i got from the boot-repair http://paste.ubuntu.com/1407018/ (it's not win vista, thou it seems showing so in the link) Thanks a lot.. • Incorrect colour blending when using a pixel shader with XNA

  I'm using XNA 4.0 to create a 2D game and while implementing a layer tinting pixel shader I noticed that when the texture's alpha value is anything between 1 or 0 the end result is different than expected. The tinting works from selecting a colour and setting the amount of tint. This is achieved via the shader which works out first the starting colour (for each r, g, b and a) : float red = texCoord.r * vertexColour.r; and then the final tinted colour : output.r = red + (tintColour.r - red) * tintAmount; The alpha value isn't tinted and is left as : output.a = texCoord.a * vertexColour.a; The picture in the link below shows different backdrops against an energy ball object where it's outer glow hasn't blended as I would like it to. The middle two are incorrect as the second non tinted one should not show a glow against a white BG and the third should be entirely invisible. The blending function is NonPremultiplied. Why the alpha value is interfering with the final colour?

• Ubuntu 12.4 compiz - disable all compiz plugin - empty screen

  A friend of mine has installed on my new machine Ubuntu 10.4 (I have always been windows user and have no experience with Linux). I started to watch some tutorial about how to make 'Rotated Cube' using 'Compiz',but the cube appears in the form of a list (only two slides). I have thought this could be result of my video cards (only two - one from the processor and one from the motherboard) and they can not support this options. Anyway, I have decided to disable all compiz plugins and options because my friend has set some, and I started to think there is some misunderstanding between the plugins. After, that I got only empty screen(no menu, no icons, anything) and can do nothing. How to fix this? EDIT: When I remove the compiz stuffs (from the console), the menu is shown again. Then I install the compiz again (some of the effect are still not working). After restart or log out/in the menu is hidden again. I suppose that there are some settings that I've broken but they are saved somewhere in the system and remove the compiz do not deleted them and as a result they are activated after compiz is installed again and the PC is restarted?

• How often is CRL refreshed, and how to force it to be?

  I have a web service running under IIS 7 that requires an X509 client certificate. I know that the server that it rus on needs access to DigiCert.com in order to be able to get the CRL (Certificate Revocation List). There is a need to change our proxy so I am attempting to investigate the impact of doing so. I have removed the global proxy settings using the command netsh winhttp proxy refesh, and also deleted the CRL cache using the command certutil -URLcache CRL delete. However, after doing this, all calls to the web service still succeed. This suggests to me that I am missing something here. So; If the CRL cache is cleared and the server has no way of refreshing the CRL, why do web service requets not return http 403?. I have been unable to find adequate information from googling nor from my colleagues. The reason I want it to fail is that I will not be confident that the new proxy settings work until I can see it broken first, if that makes sense. I would also like to be able to force the CRL to be refeshed in order to ensure that the new proxy settings work

  Why ISO/ANSI didn't standardize C++ at the binary level? There are many portability issues with C++, which is only because of lack of it's standardization at the binary level. Don Box writes, (quoting from his book Essential COM, chapter COM As A Better C++) C++ and Portability Once the decision is made to distribute a C++ class as a DLL, one is faced with one of the fundamental weaknesses of C++, that is, lack of standardization at the binary level. Although the ISO/ANSI C++ Draft Working Paper attempts to codify which programs will compile and what the semantic effects of running them will be, it makes no attempt to standardize the binary runtime model of C++. The first time this problem will become evident is when a client tries to link against the FastString DLL's import library from a C++ developement environment other than the one used to build the FastString DLL. Are there more benefits Or loss of this lack of binary standardization?

• Synching folders other than the default Ubuntu One folder doesn't seem to work on Windows

  I have installed Ubuntu One on two machines - one Windows 7 and one Windows XP. I have added a folder from the computer using the "Add Folder" button on the Windows 7 machine. The Ubuntu One dialog box tells me that file synch is finished and up to date. I now have two problems. If I log on to my Ubuntu One account on the web, I can see what appears to be a LINK to the synched folder - I cannot open the folder and see the contents. This is what I see in the Files page of my Ubuntu one account: ~/Documents/Computing/Test On the second machine, after synching is complete, I see the folder but NOT the contents. The folder is EMPTY. Can anyone provide a solution as to a) what is happening and b) how do I get this folder to synch properly on the other locations?

When I tried to extract the registry file, though, Windows jumped in the way and said “No”. This made sense as registry files are dangerous things in the hands of the ignorant. So I clicked the link to see if it would tell me how to get at the reg file but found the result less than helpful.   I have a number of pages on my website that only administrators can access and access to these pages is given if a querystring value if found and correctly set. For example: http://www.mydomain.com/show-daily-statistics?key=abc The above link will show the content of the page but anything else such as the below will not: http://www.mydomain.com/show-daily-statistics Now I was thinking about what to do if search engines and/or non-admin users somehow land on these hidden pages. I can of course either change the status code of the page to 404 or else 301 redirect to: http://www.mydomain.com/404-error What's the best solution in respect to Google and SEO?

• Does WebDAV even work on IIS 7? I say nay

  I've tried every configuration from the top 10 stack overflow and server fault results for WebDAV 405 on IIS (for verb PROPFIND and PUT). I'm running server 2008 SP2. Followed all the instructions here. I'm no stranger to configuring servers. This has gotten nowhere after 8 hours. Confirmed system.webserver in applicationhost.config: <add name="WebDAV" path="*" verb="PROPFIND,PROPPATCH,MKCOL,PUT,COPY,DELETE,MOVE,LOCK,UNLOCK" modules="WebDAVModule" resourceType="Unspecified" requireAccess="None" /> Port 443 with basic auth, same issue. Tried port 80 with windows auth. Broken. (405) Windows authentication. Check. Added authoring rules for default site and application. Check. Not the firewall. Check. added "Desktop Experience" role feature Tried HTTPS with Basic Authentication on port 443. Does not work. No other services are running like Sharepoint. Check. confirmed user has read/write NT level permissions for the folder/virtual dir tried net use * http://localhost /user:MYDOMAIN\me myPass get error 1920, if I don't authenticate I get error 67 confirmed I'm not applying filtering to WebDAV: <requestFiltering> <fileExtensions applyToWebDAV="false" /> <verbs applyToWebDAV="false" /> <hiddenSegments applyToWebDAV="false" /> 405 - HTTP verb used to access this page is not allowed. The page you are looking for cannot be displayed because an invalid method (HTTP verb) was used to attempt access. SHOULD I JUST GIVE UP?
