• Change the order of DNS lookup when connected in the VPN

  Hi, Using Windows 7 Pro here. I have my LAN network adapter with DNS server 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS). I also have OpenVPN client to connect to my company's network. If I type "nslookup" while disconnected from the VPN, I get 8.8.8.8 (from my LAN network adapter). If I type "nslookup" while connected in the VPN, I get the DNS IP from my company's network. That makes me think that when connected to the VPN all DNS's resolution are routed first to my company's DNS. How can I change this order, and make the DNS resolution be routed to 8.8.8.8 first, when I'm connected to the VPN? Thank you

• Report Builder 2.0 - Creating DataSet - User Not Authorized

  Hello, we are currently using SQL Server Reporting Services and we would like to use Report Builder so our customers can create reports themselves. I have created a User on the server. I have added this user to the SQLServerMSSQLUser and SQLServerReportServerUser groups. I have given this User db_datareader access to the required database and to the Reporting Services database. I've also tried giving the User db_owner access to the Reporting Services db's. And on the Report Manager, this User is a System_User, but has all access (every checkbox is checked). When I connect using Report Builder, I can select the Report Model to create a DataSource, but when I try to create a DataSet, I get the following error: An error occurred while connection to datasource 'DataSource1'. The details are: 'User Not Authorized'. Does anyone know what server permissions I forgot to set? I'm assuming it's a Windows permissions issue because I do not see any database login errors in the event logs.

• HTTP downloads slow - FTP of same file very fast - Windows 2003

  I am having some issues with download speeds on my site via http, i am averaging around 70kbps downloading a file that is around 70mb. But if i connect to my server via FTP and download the same file on the same computer / connection i am averaging about 300+kbps. I know my server has alot of connections at any one time, probably around 400 connections. My server has a 1gbps connection to the internet so there is plenty of bandwidth available, as proven with the FTP. I have no throttling of any kind enabled in IIS. • Strange IIS/Asp.net Exception Message

  I have a standard asp.net 2.0 application running on IIS 6. I have noticed some strange exception messages in the logs. They seem to be caused by random spam bots trying to submit forms. They are strange because the request string is huge and all the exception details in the event manager are messed up, they have been replaced with %21,%22, etc.. as seen in the screen shot. Is this some kind of exploit or just a bug in the asp.net exception handler/logger ? UPDATE: I traced the requests that are causing this strange log event to a bug in IE8 that causes it to request scriptresource.axd?d={html from page} as described in these links: MS Connect SO - Invalid Webresource.axd SO - IE8 Dropping Memory Pages I am still not sure why these requests would break the IIS log event like seen above, they are just long strings of jiberish being sent to the server, maybe someone reading this can shed some light on it.

• After installing Windows Phone 8 SDK, Connectify doesn't work

  Today I installed Windows Phone 8 SDK from the official site. After installing and a couple of restarts (it restarted the PC to enable Hyper-V), I opened Connectify. I use Connectify Hotspot to connect my iPod to the internet as I have an ethernet connection and no wireless router. The problem is that now, Connectify doesn't show WiFi in Share Over. The attached screenshot shows this. Previously, before I installed the SDK, it would show Ethernet and Wi-Fi. I would select WiFi and share my internet. Now, this is completely screwed. EDIT: I found out that the Microsoft Virtual Wi-Fi Miniport Driver has got disabled and I am not able to enable it again. Please advise. • A specific user is unable to log in to vsftpd

  I am setting up a new user let his name be ftpguy. He has access to only one directory /var/www/xxx. I have already chowned the directory so that he has write and read privileges. The user is also unable to login via ssh as I have disabled that by changing his shell to /sbin/nologin. Also, in vsftpd config, I have enabled the chroot_local_user. Now whenever I log in from ftp, i get an auth error. Connect socket #1008 to xxxxxxxx, port 21... 220 Welcome to blah FTP service. USER ftpguy 331 Please specify the password. PASS ********** 530 Login incorrect. I changed the password to something different several times, using the passwd command, nothing happens, i still the above error. However I am able to log in with my ssh creditals to my ftp server without any problems.(I do not use a key).

• Internal Data Masking

  By default, the data in the product is unmasked for authorized users. If particular data within the object is considered a candidate for data masking then the masking capabilities with the product can be used to mask the data in an appropriate fashion. The inbuilt Data Masking capabilities of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework uses a number of configuration elements: An algorithm, of type F1-MASK, is specified to configure the elements of the data masking including the masking character, number of suffix characters left unmasked, characters to ignore in the string, the application service, security type and authorization levels applicable to the mask. A Data Masking Feature Configuration is created to define where the algorithm applies. The specification of the feature allows you to define the fields to encrypt using the configured algorithm. The algorithm can be attached to a schema field, table field, characteristic, search field and even a child record (such as an identifier). The appropriate user groups are then connected to the application services with the appropriate service types and level to indicate whether the masking applies to the user group or not. For example, say there is a field called CCNBR in the product which holds the credit card details. I would create an algorithm, say CCformatCC, to mask the credit card number with the last few digits as unmasked (as the standard in most systems dictate). I would specify on the Field Mask the following: field="CCNBR", alg="CMformatCC" On the algorithm CMfomatCC, I would specify the mask, application service, security type and the authorization level which users would see the credit card unmasked. To finish the configuration off and to implemention I would connect the appropriate user groups to the application service I specified with the security type and appropriate authorization level for that group. Whenever a user accesses the CCNBR field on any of the maintenance screens, searches and other screens that use the CCNBR meta data definition would then be masked according to the user group that the user was a member of. Refer to the documentation supplied with F1-MASK algorithm type entry for more examples of what is possible.

• How to run installation CD for second monitor?

  I am running ubuntu 14 off of a live USB. I have a second monitor that I would like to use while using ubuntu. It has an installation cd that you have to install before using, and when I click on the .exe file the Archive Manager tries to open it and says an error occurred while loading the archive. Thanks for the help. Edit: additional information It just doesn't show up when when I'm in the display settings area. I press the locate(name is probably something else) monitor button too. I know it needs the CD because when I was using it with Windows it didn't work until I went through the installation process on the CD. If ubuntu doesn't use .exe files is there a way to use the CD still? • Setting up 802.1X wireless connection on OSX

  I am an OSX user, I have Snow Leopard 10.6.5 and an updated AirPort. I am trying to connect to my university's wireless network, but it has a complex security that I am having trouble defining... Here there are instructions for connecting with Windows XP, Windows 7 and Linux. Can someone please instruct me what should I do to set up this network on my MAC? Thank you. P.S. I have had previous success in setting up this network, but I have no idea what I did that made it work. Since I updated my AirPort it worked only seldomly and very slowly... • Missing Wireless access point

  I have an: Ubuntu 12.04 with proprietary Boardcom STA Wireless driver installed BCM43224 802.11a/b/g/n wireless card TP-LINK TD-W8101G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router Yesterday before I went to sleep, I still connect to my wireless access point, this morning when I start my laptop I don't see it in the list - there are some neighbors listed but not mine. The WLAN is green, with my old Nokia E72, I still see my access point with 100% signal. I have tried to restart my laptop and turn the firmware off/on by the switch but no help. I have read the WirelessTroubleShootingGuide but I can do anything. • 12.10 visual performance using nvidia driver

  My fresh ubuntu 12.10 install is slow, not something extreme but dragging windows, switching workspaces and things like that are just slow and look horrible. it feels like the fps is dropping in a game. Doing some photoshop work in windows was even a relief! This effect gets worse if I connect my external monitor. My system is an intel pentium dual core T4500 with 4gb memory and a GeForce 8200M G/integrated/SSE2 graphics chip. Nothing fancy but should be able to run ok. My "experience" in ubuntu is set to standard. (MSI cr500 laptop) I've installed the nvidia drivers, tried current and experimental and the experimental drivers seem to perform a bit better but overall bad anyway. I set the mode to adaptive in the nvidia-settings tool and it goes to maximum setting directly and doesn't come back. Using htop I found out that compiz or the X server always use a few percent of my cpu, more than I think it should and the time consumed is 5:18 for compiz, 4:33 for /usr/bin/X and 2:41 for google chrome(about 30 tabs open so not too strange I think.) What can I do to increase the visual performance cause this makes me not want to use ubuntu in public!

• Windows 7 Networking Problem

  Hello, I'm on a Windows 7 Computer with an additional Win7 computer and an XP computer and I keep getting an error: 0x8007046a: "Not enough server storage is available to process this command" when I try to connect to a share on the Windows XP Computer. The Windows 7 Computers talk fine as far as HomeGroup, etc, but no dice with XP shares. Additionally this is in a workgroup. I have searched countless forums including TechNet, tried IRPStackSize, DhcpNodeType, and Uninstalling/Reinstalling File and Printer Sharing for M$ Networks. Any help is much appreciated.

• How can I create an external SSL wrapper/tunnel page for an insecure webpage behind a firewall?

  I have an security cam with a built-in webpage inside my home network. That camera is using basic HTTP authentication instead of SSL. I want to be able to access the camera's webpage from outside my network, but I don't want to open an unencrypted video stream to the outside world. Right now, I'm doing some cumbersome ssh tunneling where I bounce off an ssh server like: ssh -N -L 9090:CAMERA_IP:80 [email protected] and then I connect to my web page like: http://localhost:9090 But this is a pain. Now, gentle reader, I beseech you to tell me how I can use linux (Ubuntu) to get a fully encrypted SSL connection to my internal web page without the hassle of creating an ssh tunnel each time. I believe I can use stunnel, but I'm not sure of the command.

• Is there a way to set access to WMI using GroupPolicy?

  From various documentation it appears that to change WMI access you need to use WMI to access the running service and modify specific parts of the tree. Its kind of annoying changing 150,000 hosts using the UI. And then having to include such changes in the process of adding new hosts. Could write a script to do the same, but that needs to either connect to all those machines live, or be distributed for later update say in an startup/install script. And then you have to mess around with copying binary SD data from an example access control. I've also found you can change the wbem/*.mof file to include an SDDL but I'm really vague on how that all works at the moment. Am I just missing some point of simple administration?

• Archive Recorded Show from DVR

  IF I have an AT&T U-Verse DVR, is there a way to copy the information off the DVR to an PC for Archiving/burning to a DVD? I know that I could connect the A/V outs on the DVR to the A/V inputs on a DVD Recorder, or to a capture card on a PC, and Play the show, and record in real-time on the DVD or PC, but if the show is say a World Cup Game, this would take 2-3 hours per. My thought is that the DVR is just a HardDrive, and the files have to be stored in an digital format, it should be possible to do a copy of some sort. I'm currently recording all of the WC games, but if I don't watch them right away, I'm concerned that I will push other programming that the rest of the family has recorded out, making me unpopular at home. Note, I'm talking about archiving for personal use, not redistribution or anything.

• Why does the Java VM process eat up more RAM then specified in -Xmx parameter?

  I have multiple servers running CentOS 5.4 and only one application running on Java VM. I've configured the Java VM with the following arguments: java -Xmx4500M -server -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -XX:NewSize=1024m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote=true The machines I'm running the VM on has 6 GB RAM and no other applications running. After a while, the java process starts to hit the swap space really hard, I get this info out of the top command: 7658 root 25 0 11.7g 3.9g 4796 S 39.4 67.3 543:54.17 java On the other hand, if I connect via JConsole, it reports the Java VM has 2.6 GB used, 4.6 GB commited and 4.6 Gb max. java -version returns: java version "1.6.0_17" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode) Why is the Java VM expanding so much past it's allocated heap size? And where does that memory go, if it's not reported in JConsole?

• Is span monitoring on Cisco ASA 5520 possible?

  From what I have read, you can use the switchport monitor command on ASA 5505's to setup a Span port due to the back of the ASA actually being a switch. On my 5520, I do not see the switchport command listed when issuing a ? via the CLI. How do people monitor traffic on non-5505's? My goal is to connect our IDS/IPS device that is running is promiscuous mode to a Ethernet port on the 5520 to monitor WAN traffic. I do not want to have to pass the WAN traffic through a switch as it would require me to get two (for redundancy) STP/switchport capable switches. • Squirrelmail got error after installation whm

  Just now installed whm/cpanel, created some accounts, created mail account in one of them and entered squirrelmail to check the mail. • Connecting a Samsung Galaxy S3 in Ubuntu 13.04

  In 13.04, whenever I connect an Android device, one of three things happens: 1 . It mounts successfully (maybe once out of 3 attempts) 2 . It fails to mount with the following error message: Oops! Something went wrong. Unhandled error message: Unable to open MTP device 3 . This one occasionally happens: Unhandled error message: No such interface `org.gtk.vfs.Mount' on object at path /org/gtk/vfs/mount/1 Regardless of activity (even when successfully mounted) it will continuously spam the following error message: Unable to mount SAMSUNG_Android Unable to open MTP Device '[usb:003,00x]' where x seems to be an arbitrary number below 10 and continues counting up with each new error message until the device is unplugged. I've also just noticed that even if it mounts successfully, it unmounts after about 30 seconds and starts spamming the error message above. The Android device is unlocked, always on and fully charged. ADB seems to function normally. Any suggestions? Further info: this happens on both a stock Samsung S3 and an Xperia Arc S running a custom AOSP based ROM. I've also tried the steps outlined in this Stack Overflow answer, but the problem persists. UPDATE: After doing a dist-upgrade (May 8th 2013), the Xperia Arc S on AOSP ROM now mounts and behaves normally. The S3, however, still behaves as described above. UPDATE: After careful observation, ABD does not, in fact, behave normally. If the error message above appears while sending an app to the device, the attempt is aborted with an error message saying that the device is unavailable.

• Can't change Hyper Terminal Hardware Settings

  Anyone here any good with Hyperterminal? Am having a nightmare trying to use it at work to update our telephone extensions. The company who supply our PABX box have told me that XP does strange things to Hyperterminal and that I should use Win2k. Which I did with the same result. I have narrowed the problem dowwn to the Hardware Settings for the connection in Hyper Terminal. No matter what I set (and I need 7E1) it defaults back to 8N1. Has anyone seen this behaviour before and know of a simple way around it? (Apart from buying a more expensive commercial version of Hyper Terminal, as suggested by our support people). Edit: I should point out I have to connect via a phone line so a direct serial connection is not an option. Cheers Tim

  I've installed "Client for NFS" on my 32-bit Windows Vista Ultimate. However, I can't find it in the start menu, and can't find any documentation on how to use it. How do I connect to a NFS share using "Client for NFS"? Can I map it to a drive letter? How do I choose connection options, such as my uid/gid, mount as read-only, port number, etc? Ideally I would like to map a NFS share using the command line. You may also suggest alternatives to "Client for NFS".

• Bluetooth Headset pairs and appears in Sound Devices, but shows as Disconnected?

  I recently got a TrueBlue TB-100T3 and tried pairing it with my computer (Windows 7 64-bit). At first it paired but would not appear under Sound Devices. I updated my Broadcom Bluetooth drivers here: http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php Now my headset appears in both Playback and Recording, but shows as Disconnected. The device is on, paired, and appears under Device Manager as having no problems. I right-clicked and installed both the Hands-free Telephony and Headset services. • Opening an oracle database crashes the service

  I am experiencing a weird issue with Oracle where the service started fine after a crash. The database mount went fine as well. However, when I issue alter database open; command, the database does not open, gives a generic cannot connect to the database error & crashes the service. Oracle support has not seen this issue before so it's pretty scary. The fact that there are no logs that give any leads as to what could be causing this is also scary. I was wondering if good folks over at Server Fault had seen something like this or have some insights on things that I could try. It's Oracle 10g running on Windows Server 2003. Thanks, Ashish

• Howto print from dumb terminals with local print server and remote hosted RDP

  We have essentially a remote office with about 5 dumb terminals. The terminals are connecting to our office directly over a wireless link. What I want to do is connect all their printers onto a print server. But since the remote office is not actually allowed to see our LAN (since they are actually another company) we don't want a full on open VPN tunnel set up. Naturally the RDP traffic passes through a firewall. Is there an easy way to set up the RDP server so that it can see a print server on a remote LAN?
