  Does anyone have an experience with some discrete event simulation library that could be used in .NET (C#)? Despite the basic functionality for queing events and dispatching them, it would be fine to have some non-deterministic behavior (e.g. failures simulation). I have some tips and I am even considering to write my own, but first, I would like to collect some recomendations. Thanks.   This question is based on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/359424/detach-subdirectory-into-separate-git-repository Instead of detaching a single subdirectory, I want to detach a couple. For example, my current directory tree looks like this: /apps /AAA /BBB /CCC /libs /XXX /YYY /ZZZ And I would like this instead: /apps /AAA /libs /XXX The --subdirectory-filter argument to git filter-branch won't work because it gets rid of everything except for the given directory the first time it's run. I thought using the --index-filter argument for all unwanted files would work (albeit tedious), but if I try running it more than once, I get the following message: Cannot create a new backup. A previous backup already exists in refs/original/ Force overwriting the backup with -f Any ideas? TIA

• Drupal and Login Toboggan -- infinite redirect loop

  I'm getting a redirect loop when using Login Toboggan. It doesn't happen all of the time and I think I've narrowed it down to something with the session, specifically the active-tabs[last-active-href] value. Since it's intermittent, I was able to print out a session of a working copy and a non-working copy. Here are both: WORKS -- Array ( [active-tabs] = Array ( [last-active-href] = index ) ) toboggan/denied DOESN'T WORK -- Array ( [active-tabs] = Array ( [last-active-href] = user/register [user] = user/register ) [wantsEvents] = [wantsResources] = [wantsSupport] = ) toboggan/denied I've also noticed that if I comment out the following line the redirection loop stops (although no page loads): $return = menu_execute_active_handler('user/register'); Any ideas? I'm at my wits end.

• Lucene Analyzer to Use With Special Characters and Punctuation?

  I have a Lucene index that has several documents in it. Each document has multiple fields such as: Id Project Name Description The Id field will be a unique identifier such as a GUID, Project is a user's ProjectID and a user can only view documents for their project, and Name and Description contain text that can have special characters. When a user performs a search on the Name field, I want to be able to attempt to match the best I can such as: First Will return both: First.Last and First.Middle.Last Name can also be something like: Test (NameTest) Where, if a user types in 'Test', 'Name', or '(NameTest)', then they can find the result. However, if I say that Project is 'ProjectA' then that needs to be an exact match (case insensitive search). The same goes with the Id field. Which fields should I set up as Tokenized and which as Untokenized? Also, is there a good Analyzer I should consider to make this happen? I am stuck trying to decide the best route to implement the desired searching.

• How can I use Perl to grab text from a web page that is dynamically generated with JavaScript?

  There is a website I am trying to pull information from in Perl, however the section of the page I need is being generated using javascript so all you see in the source is: <div id="results"></div> I need to somehow pull out the contents of that div and save it to a file using Perl/proxies/whatever. e.g. the information I want to save would be document.getElementById('results').innerHTML; I am not sure if this is possible or if anyone had any ideas or a way to do this. I was using a lynx source dump for other pages but since I cant straight forward screen scrape this page I came here to ask about it! • Problem getting CodeIgniter working with WAMP

  I've been developing a project based on CodeIgniter on my MacBook Pro. For reasons I don't need to go into I've now had to move my work onto a PC running Windows XP. I've installed WAMP and brought my existing project into the www folder. Unfortunately, when I try and access the project via localhost it throws up include errors. It seems that for some reason the constants APPPATH and BASEPATH seem to be incorrect. I've checked the index.php file and it all seems ok. I've also downloaded a fresh version of CodeIgniter and placed that in my www folder. I can access the welcome message without any problems. Any ideas?

I mean copying the entire treeview, save that copy in a list. Then when the Undo action is requested decrement a specific counter of levels of undo and replace the actual treeview with the treeview that exist in the index positions of the list. if I do redo the same happens but lvls is incremented so i recover what come next. Every time that a modifications occurs in the treeview i need to save that copy and increment the lvl counter

• Optimizing MySQL statement with lot of count(row) an sum(row+row2)...

  I need to use InnoDB storage engine on a table with about 1mil or so records in it at any given time. It has records being inserted to it at a very fast rate, which are then dropped within a few days, maybe a week. The ping table has about a million rows, whereas the website table only about 10,000. My statement is this: select url from website ws, ping pi where ws.idproxy = pi.idproxy and pi.entrytime > curdate() - 3 and contentping+tcpping is not null group by url having sum(contentping+tcpping)/(count(*)-count(errortype)) < 500 and count(*) > 3 and count(errortype)/count(*) < .15 order by sum(contentping+tcpping)/(count(*)-count(errortype)) asc; I added an index on entrytime, yet no dice. Can anyone throw me a bone as to what I should consider to look into for basic optimization of this query. The result set is only like 200 rows, so I'm not getting killed there.

  I want to ignore the post form in the django's internatonalization. I am using the django-multilingual app, so I have different fields for different languages in the db. I come up with this idea: For each language, from the index.html page, redirect to a different url (e.g. /en/ or /de/ or /zh/). And each view of this urls, set the session according to the language like this: def set_lang_en(request): request.session['django_language'] = 'en' render_to_response("home.html") def set_lang_zh(request): request.session['django_language'] = 'zh-cn' render_to_response("home.html") Interestingly, this does the job, but if i refresh the page again after redirection (home.html). Why it is like this? And how can solve this problem either in my direction or other one?

• How do you design a database to allow fast multicolumn searching?

  I am creating a real estate search from RETS data, but this is a general question. When you have a variety of columns that you would like the user to be able to filter their search result by, how do you optimize this? For example, http://www.charlestonrealestateguide.com/listings.php has 16 or so optional filters. Granted, he only has up to 11,000 entries (I have the same data), but I don't imagine the search is performed with just a giant WHERE AND AND AND ... clause. Or is this typically accomplished with one giant multicolumn index? Newegg, Amazon, and countless others also have cool & fast filtering systems for large amounts of data. How do they do it? And is there a database optimization reason for the tendency to provide ranges instead of empty inputs, or is that merely for user convenience?

• Using indexes on/through a MySQL view

  We've got a MySQL table in which rows are never updated, but instead new rows are added and the old ones marked obsolete. Think Rails' acts_as_paranoid, but for every update. To make working with Rails sane, we've got a view which selects only the rows which are "current". That makes a much better "table" for our ActiveRecord model. The snag: our indexes aren't being used anymore. Queries on the view don't use the underlying tables' indexes. You can't add an index to a view. Without indexes, the app is unbearably slow. The only solution we've come up with is to build a materialized view, but that's a pain in MySQL because they're not natively supported. Is there a better way to do this?

• saving a records containing a member of type string to a file (Delphi, Windows)

  I have a record that looks similar to: type TNote = record Title : string; Note : string; Index : integer; end; Simple. The reason I chose to set the variables as string (as opposed to an array of chars) is that I have no idea how long those strings are going to be. They can be 1 char long, 200 or 2000. Of course when I try to save the record to a type file (file of...) the compiler complains that I have to give a size to string. Is there a way to overcome this? or a way to save those records to an untyped file and still maintain a sort of searchable way? Please do not point me to possible solutions, if you know the solution please post code. Thank you
