• APC (PHP Cache) Uptime 0 minutes, not caching

  My goal is to implement APC for opcode cache for a drupal 6 production site. I have so far tested APC with several php files with and without including other php files with include_once. Also tried to tweak the apc.ini values for shm_size, apc.include_once_override and apc.stat. Restarted apache every time. Resulting in apc.php not showing any changes in any values. I tried to set (with chown and chgrp) apache as the owner of the apc.php file and some test php files resulting in 500 server error. Is there a way to check if the file permissions prevent the apc stay running? I'm tremendously grateful for any suggestions or help.

  I am searching for a good, light weight, open source, full text search engine for php. I came across a number of options like Lucene, Zend Lucene, Solr etc but at the same time I also find out many people suggesting Sphider for small/medium side websites. I looked at shipder website a lot but unable to find out how to use it as a Full Text Search Engine.If anybody worked on it could help me to figure out whether it supports full text search or not. I tried: Dolphin, DZOIC-Handshakes, elgg, Oxwall, SocialEngine, and some plugins for wp and other cms. I don't need much, just: groups, chats, forums, profiles, PM, photos, pages, comments, search, statistics. Most of which included in pretty much every CMS out there... but not all... So, what good solutions there are? Also I don't mind paying some money (i guess no more then 200$), but I'd prefere if it was a free open source engine. Of course it should be php+mysql based.

• Authorizing a module in a framework

  I've been studying PHP frameworks and I've been looking for how you would go about properly authorizing a module for classes, methods, and database actions. For example, lets say I want a framework that includes different modules from different programmers: Some core class may require special access, not all modules should have access to every core class unless authorized to. I do not want one module to be able to call another module's class/method if it is not supposed to be able to. I also don't want a security flaw in one module to be able to affect another module's database tables. I suppose an easy way to go about this is have a database table for authorization to consult, but I doubt that is the best way to go about this. I'd appreciate any advice or pointing me in the right direction for some reading.

  There is a two-dimensional array describing a HTML table. Each element of the array consists of: the cell content rowspan colspan Every row of this two dimensional array corresponds to <td> cells of a <tr> of the table which my software should generate. I need to "reverse" the array (interchange vertical and horizontal direction). Insofar I considered algorithm based on this idea: make a rectangular matrix of the size of the table and store in every element of this matrix the corresponding index of the element of the above mentioned array. (Note that two elements of the matrix may be identical due rowspan/colspan.) Then I could use this matrix to calculate rowspan/colspan for the inverted table. But this idea seems bad for me. Any other algorithms? Note that I program in PHP.

I know it might sound stupid, as a Jr developer I did 2 interviews they didn't went so well and I am very interested in this position part of my question is like a big lack of confidence so to make it short should I tell them about where is the error and how to fix it? • mp3 file streaming/download - apache server memory issue

  I have a website, in which users can upload mp3 files (uploadify), stream them using an html5 player (jplayer) and download them using a php script (www.zubrag.com/scripts/). When a user uploads a song, the path to the audio file is saved in the database and i'm using that data in order to play and show a download link for the song. The problem that i'm experiencing is that, according to my host, this method is using a lot of memory on the server, which is dedicated. I have a table of venue information (name, address, etc...) that our events happen on. Separately, I have a table of the actual events that are scheduled (an event may happen multiple times in one day and/or over multiple days).   Wow, I started my search this morning and didn't think it would be so difficult to find. I'm just tired of spending hours putting together simple html forms in dreamweaver. I'm an enthusiast web developer mostly focused on php and mysql. I hate CSS and HTML and I'm looking for a simple program that will put a form together for me where I can then completely embed the form into my site. I'll do all of the programming to attach it to my database I just need the form and images. I've looked into jotform, wufoo, 123forms etc but it seems like they all want to keep my form on their servers in one way or another. It looked like jotform had a developers version but $450 bucks is a little steep for a part timer like me. Is there no simple software out there that will throw a nice stylized form together for me?

  When users enter my website example.com, their "preferred" language is detected and they are redirected (using a 301 Moved Permanently redirection) to example.com/en/ (for english), example.com/it/ (for italian), etc. It works perfectly, but when I analized my website with the Google Page Speed tool it gave me the following advice. Many pages, especially mobile pages, redirect users to a different URL, for instance from www.example.com to m.example.com. Making this redirect cacheable by the user's browser can speed up page load times for repeat visitors to a site. And later it says We recommend using a 302 redirect with a cache lifetime of one day. The redirect should include a Vary: User-Agent header as well as a Cache-Control: private header. So my questions are, how can I do a "cacheable" redirection in PHP?   I am trying to get my head around object oriented programming as it pertains to web development (more specifically PHP). I understand inheritance and abstraction etc, and know all the "buzz-words" like encapsulation and single purpose and why I should be doing all this. But my knowledge is falling short with actually creating objects that relate to the data I have in my database, creating a single object that a representative of a single entity makes sense, but what are the best practises when creating 100, 1,000 or 10,000 objects of the same type. for instance, when trying to display a list of the items, ideally I would like to be consistent with the objects I use, but where exactly should I run the query/get the data to populate the object(s) as running 10,000 queries seems wasteful. As an example, say I have a database of cats, and I want a list of all black cats, do I need to set up a FactoryObject which grabs the data needed for each cat from my database, then passes that data into each individual CatObject and returns the results in a array/object - or should I pass each CatObject it's identifier and let it populate itself in a separate query.

• Maximum file size for iFrame in IE7

  I've got a "super secure" javascript downloader* that I wrote, and it usually works alright. But I noticed, while trying to download a 90 meg file with it on a client's machine that on IE7, it's getting hung up about 1/3rd of the way through. I've never tried to send a file that large through the iFrame and it works fine in other browsers. Is there a size restriction on files that IE7 can read in an iFrame? * It's really just a PHP line that sets header("location: http://someplace/downloadbigthing.exe"); after it does some logging and verification.

  I'm building a content management system, and need advice on which theming structure should I adopt. A few options (This is not a complete list): Wordpress style: the controller decides what template to load based on the user request, like: home page / article archive / single article page etc. each of these templates are unrelated to other templates, and must exist within the theme the theme developer decides if (s)he want to use inner-templates (like "sidebar", "sidebar item"), and includes them manually where (s)he thinks are needed. Drupal style: the controller gives control to the theme developer only to inner-templates; if they don't exist it falls back internally to some default templates (I find this very restrictive) Funky style: the controller only loads a "index.php" template and provides the theme developer conditional tags, which he can use to include inner-templates if (s)he wants. Among these styles, or others what style of template system allows for fast development and a more concise design and implementation.

I am aware of the logic problems with all of these items, Ie. if one person deletes something, do you persist this change to other users, collisions, etc. I am looking for just any book or scholarly work, or even words of wisdom to address common issues. when to detect changes of data with hashes, vs modified dates, or combination. how do address consolidation of sequential ID's originating on different client nodes (can be sidestepped in my context, but it would be interesting.) dealing with collisions (is there a universally safe way to do so?). general best practices. how to structure the actual data transaction (ask for whole list then detect changes...)

It has been really tiring and boring due to code-repetition. Code repetition was vast on form handling functions in controllers.So in my last project , i developed a general form input handling function.This lead a realisation that it could get even faster by more automation. • Updating Pages after migration of website

  My web site was coded in Coldfusion and over the years has obtained a good ranking. I recently migrated the front-end to a Wordpress site and wanted to know what is ideal way of updating Google and the various search engines of of the updates. For example, the home page of index.cfm is no longer valid since it's index.php. I've submitted an updated sitemap.xml file to Google. I'm sure my site will slip some while the search engines re-index my site but I'd like to try and minimize this as much as possible with the holidays coming up (my site is a service oriented site that caters to people who travel during the holidays). Right now, the old .cfm pages are still online but are re-routed to the appropriate Wordpress page (for example, about.cfm is now routed to /about/ using a cflocation tag.). Not sure if I should pull down the .cfm pages all together or leave them in place until the new pages are picked up by the search engines. Any advice would be helpful.

I mean, in access with desktop with more than 800px of screen, the page load fully; In mobile devices, or even in desktop with less than 800px, not load some content.
