  My main objective is to create a User Interface in order to provision(change the status: activate, deactivate, or suspend) modems. I have received a SOAP developer's guide to the specific type of modem that helps out with the specific values that I need to pass into Iridium's WSDL but I cannot figure out how to do this from a webpage I have created using HTML/CSS, and PHP? I have been told by others that I need to know the portal. I have no idea what that means. I am a beginner programmer who has learned programming for this project. Any suggestions as to how to pass my data into the provisioning API?

  I have been researching on open source software for an online grocery shop project. I have now narrowed by search to .NET based nopCommerce and the PHP based PrestaShop shopping carts. My plan is to acquire an open source shopping cart and hire a local developer to customize it to our local needs & as per our requirement. I'm now wondering whether I should have a developer start the whole project from scratch, or use an open source software such us PrestaShop or nopCommerce which can then be customized?   I have list of video files (loaded from database), each with start and end time of requested interval: # file begin end v1.mp4 1:01 2:01 v2.mp4 3:02 3:32 v3.mp4 2:03 5:23 And I need to create single video file containing these intervals: [0:00]---v1---[2:00]---v2---[2:30]---v3---[5:50] I preffer usig ffmpeg, since it is installed on server. Caller program is written in PHP. It is easy to cut one input to one output (argument escaping removed for clarity): exec("ffmpeg -ss $begin -i $input_file -ss $begin -c copy $output_file"); I there any easier way than executing ffmpeg for each interval and then execute it once more to concatenate prepared clips together? I really do not like to have a lot of temporary files or dealing with complex process handling.

  I want to write a php code to be embedded in drupal7 module. I want to call a procedure which can copy the newly generated data in local mysql database to the remote mysql database. When data is inserted in tables 'A' of my local data base it should be copied to the specific table 'B' of the remote mysql server's database. Table 'A' is on local host. • After changing web host, I get a 'file does not exist' error

  I run a WordPress blog, and have recently changed web hosts. When changing web hosts, I copied all files and exported/imported the database etc as explained by lots of tutorials found easily on Google. The blog home page works fine. What goes wrong: When I click on any link from the home page, the browser gets stuck in a redirect loop. Looking at the error log, I see: File does not exist: /usr/local/apache/htdocs/index.php The directory /usr doesn't even exist for my website - so perhaps this is looking for a file that was present using my old Web Host and is no longer present with my new web host? What is going on, and how might I resolve it?

  I have built a website using PHP and MySQL and now I am looking for a hosting service. I am expecting about a 1000 users registering and about 5-10k pageviews/day in a week's time. So which host should I opt for? It will let users submit contents of type blobs and submit around 10 pictures per users.   Is curl something that's not expected to be installed on servers? I'm working for a small development shop and 99% of the problems that I'm having is regarding curl. Most of the projects that I'm working on involves calling a web API. Most web API's suggests using curl by default since you have to pass in a POST data in the request. Every time I complain to my senior that the server that I'm working on doesn't have curl installed the excuse that I'm always getting is that curl is not needed you can always use file_get_contents. So the question: is curl something that's not expected to be installed on servers that runs PHP, should I always develop using file_get_contents and not curl? Are there any advantages of using file_get_contents over curl or vise versa? If it helps, the context here is wordpress plugins, shopify apps, drupal modules and other bits of code that a lot of people can install.

• Opensource package for securly allowing users to log in and provide information

  I have a site written in mostly php and html. I also have a sql database of personal information like names and addresses. I would like my users to be able to log in to my website with a login I can email or snail mail to them, and view and edit their information on my database. Users can currently enter information online I and store it in my database but they can't view or edit stored information. I can add the code to do this, but when I give users the ability to view information I suddenly have a lot more security concerns. Is there an open source package to deal with allowing users to do something like this? Or is there an established convention for this? I know this is a pretty basic question, and there might be some good literature about it that I have yet to find, so if someone can just point me in the direction of some of that information, or better yet give me firsthand some information about this that would be great.

• Strategies for removing register_globals from a file

  I have a file (or rather, a list of about 100 files) in my website's repository that is still requiring the use of register_globals and other nastiness (like custom error reporting, etc) because the code is so bad, throws notices, and is 100% procedural with few subroutines. We want to move to PHP 5.4 (and eventually 5.5) this year, but can't until we can port these files over, clean them up, etc. The average file length is about 1000 lines. I've already cleaned up a few of the low-hanging fruit, however the job took almost an entire day for 2 300-500 line files. I am in a quagmire here (giggity). Anyway, has anyone else dealt with this in the past? Are there any strategies besides tracing backwards through the code? Most static analysis tools don't look at code outside of functions - are there any that will look at the procedural code and help find at least some of the problems?

I can write small functions, I can export and import information from a database and I can make a website. I don't know OOP principles and I don't know about objects and classes.   We have a unique situation (at least for me, first time seeing this). We have a web form where accountants can fill in requests and that part is taken care of. But after their login we redirect them to a third-party website where we need more information from them. The process is crazy right now since we have to give our account login info to all people filing with us. • Using implode, explode etc.. on one line vs separating them into multiple lines with meaningful variable names

  I see a lot of people coding in PHP being rather proud if they manage to write a complicated one line statement that does clever things. But what is the advantage? It is not only harder to keep in once head while writing, but makes code much less readable. In my opinion reading short statements, if well written, can be like reading an essay, while complicated one liners can potentially make me pause and think for much longer then it would take for the coder to simply separate them into meaningful units. Am I wrong in thinking this? How would you go about proving your point to another programmer regarding this?

Solutions provided there are not helping and scripts not interesting. I'm looking for a booking system that support infinite number of hotels/rooms/pricingschemes. There should be unlimited number of hotel owner/users, who can access control panel and set availability for their hotel. Or create seasonal prices and adjust them. I should be able to have 15% booking fee paid through credit cart. I can work on integration with my system, it just needs to have correct APi/functionality to support this. I love wordpress so if there are some nice plugins for that, I'm open for suggestions. But this is not a must. It should be php/mysql based as I'm not good at anything else :)

  Zend's Coding Standard Naming Convention says Functions in the global scope (a.k.a "floating functions") are permitted but discouraged in most cases. Consider wrapping these functions in a static class. The common wisdom in Python says practically the opposite: Finally, use staticmethod sparingly! There are very few situations where static-methods are necessary in Python, and I've seen them used many times where a separate "top-level" function would have been clearer. (Not only does the above StackOverflow answer warn against overuse of static methods, but more than one Python linter will warn the same.) Is this something that can be generalized across programming languages, and if so, why does Python differ so from PHP? If it's not something that can be generalized, what is the basis for one approach or the other, and is there a way to immediately recognize in a language whether you should prefer bare functions or static methods?
