• Cannot find wireless driver for HP laptop

  I have an HP laptop (model: dv7-1267cl, Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium) and I cannot find the wireless driver for the laptop. I am need of a different version because my wireless connection under Windows is flaky and unreliable. I have problems printing to my wireless printer and logging in to and using several sites like reddit.com, phoenix.edu and facebook.com - I get several "page cannot be displayed" messages while using my wireless connection. I disable my wireless adapter and use an ethernet cable and it all works fine. I also used an Ubuntu Live CD to confirm that there is not a problem with the hardware. This is software/driver issue. The drivers were auto installed by the OS. The Device Manager shows the wireless adapter as Atheros AR5009 802.11 a/g/n WiFi Adapter. I have checked the HP website for my laptop and they do not have wireless drivers listed for that model wireless adapter. I have also checked with atheros.com and I do not see my model adapter on their list of available hardware. Device Manager lists the Hardware ID's for my adapter as: PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&SUBSYS_1381103C&REV_01 PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&SUBSYS_1381103C PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&CC_028000 PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&CC_0280 A search for the first Hardware ID turned up this question from experts-exchange.com. tl;dr A driver does not exist for that model adapter.

• Massive Memory Leaks?

  Hi, I seem to have huge memory leaks, which are confusing me. I'm running fusion 3.1 / Windows 7 on Snow Leopard. It's a clean install with all upgrades applied. I've given fusion 8GB on a 14GB machine. I've installed VS2008 & Eclipse in Windows 7. Nothing unusual. Inside Task Manager in Windows 7, my memory footprint stays reasonable, at <2GB. But in OSX, Activity Monitor shows the footprint of vmware-vmx to be much larger. It starts at 2 GB, which seems fine, but whenever I'm actually doing anything in Windows, vmware-vmx's footprint grows at a few MB per second. After 20 mins or so it's using ~10GB and everything grinds to a halt. Throughout this, Task Manager still says I'm only using 2GB. And whatever I do in windows seems to increase vmware-vmx's memory footprint. Even closing down an application seems to make it go up. So is this par for the course in fusion? I was previously using parallels 3 / Vista under Leopard, and it worked fine. I'd assumed my new fusion config would work better, but this makes it completely unusable. (And apparently I can't even ask tech support unless I buy a support package...) Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

• Windows 7 Not Recognizing Camera Nor iPhone as Camera

  I've been struggling with this one for a few days. I've recently upgraded an older computer to Windows 7 Home Premium. Neither my digital camera (A Canon SD1200IS) nor iPhone are ever detected as cameras, nor ever show up as accessable in Explorer. With the Canon camera, no driver is required. It's supposed to work with the default Windows 7 drivers. However, in the Control Panel's Device Manager, I'm always seeing a yellow icon next to the "Canon Digital Camera" device. I've uninstalled the device and let Windows attempt to reinstall, but it can never find a driver to install. With the iPhone, it's very similar. One big difference, though, is that iTunes can see the iPhone and back it up, etc. However, again when I go to the Device Manager, there's a yellow icon next to the iPhone. I've uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled, rebooted, deleted drivers, and let Window try to reinstall the driver, but it can never find the driver. So there seems to be some correlation that my machine can't detect cameras properly, and that it might be even a lower-level type of driver I'm struggling with. I know that USB however, does work, because I have have an external drive hooked into the machine. I've gone through the web and tried two hours worth of fixes, without success. I feel like if I can get the Canon camera detected, then the iPhone will be on it's way to being fixed too. BTW, I couldn't really find anything of use in the Event viewer. Any and all suggestions welcome.

  This is a counter-intuitive problem for me. I have a new Win 2003 server on a static IP address w.x.y.z. Tomcat 7, PostgreSQL 9.1, and Subversion are installed. All of it appears to be working fine from the server itself. We can also access the Tomcat manager, web applications, and run "svn ls svn://w.x.y.z/" from outside our network. However, when I try from another machine in the office, phpPgAdmin and svn cannot establish connections with the server. http://w.x.y.z:5432/phppgadmin cannot connect. The svn command from above returns: svn: E730061: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'svn://w.x.y.z/' svn: E730061: Can't connect to host 'w.x.y.z': No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Tomcat manager and the other web apps we have deployed work fine. Netstat -a from the server shows this: Proto Local Address Foreign Address State TCP SERVERNAME:3690 SERVERNAME:0 LISTENING TCP SERVERNAME:5432 SERVERNAME:0 LISTENING Windows Firewall was off, but just in case I also tried to enable it and open ports 3690 (svn) and 5432 (postgres). No change. I don't have access to the router/switch because it just doesn't work that way in Port-au-Prince and our sysadmin is on R&R. Is there anything that might be causing the problem from the server side?

• Cluster Core Resource state of Exchange 2010 DAG

  I have two Exchange 2010 servers in a DAG and a witness server to implement mailbox resiliency. The two Exchange servers are in two subnets and the Windows failover cluster therefore has two IP address resources. I now that Exchange uses "core functionality" of Windows Server failover clustering, but it does not use all features. My setup also seems to work, but if I run the validation in the Windows Failover Cluster Manager, it complains about one of the IP address resources being offline. However, I cannot bring this resource online, because the server complains that "the specified cluster node is not the owner of the resource, or the node is not a possible owner of the resource". If I "Simulate failure of this resource", it becomes offline and the other IP becomes online. I have the vague idea that Exchange might use the state of the IP resource to identify the Primary Active Manager, but I am not sure. As it is obviously important that failover really works, I would like to be sure. Therefore, my question is: Is it normal that only one IP address resource in a Exchange 2010 DAG failover cluster is active at a time? If not, how do I bring both resources online at the same time given the error described above?

• Restricting Access to Application(s) on Point of Sale system

  I have a customer with two point of sale systems, a few workstations and a Windows 2003 SBS Server. The point of sale systems are typically running QuickBooks Point of Sale and are logged in with a user who has restricted permissions / access (via Group Policy). Occasionally, one of the managers needs to be able to run a few additional applications -- including some accounting software. I have created an additional user for this manager, allowing them to login and access the accounting software. The problem is, it can be problematic to switch users on the system, as QuickBooks takes a few minutes to close (on POSUser) and then reopen (on ManagerUser). If customers are waiting, this slows things down drastically. Since the accounting software is stored on a network drive, it would be easiest if the manager could simply double click something, authenticate against the network drive / domain controller and then the program would launch. When they close the program, the session to the network drive would be lost and the program would no longer be accessible. Is there any easy way to do this? Both users are on a domain and the system is Windows 7. I just don't want to require the user to switch back and forth. In a worst case scenario, they forget to switch back and leave the accounting software wide open.

• Cutting Ubuntu to the bone for Virtualbox VM

  I've been looking around for a Linux variant which will install only the software I need rather than everything Ubuntu (for example) puts in by default. This is to create a virtual machine in Virtualbox which has bash, apache, python, perl, SQLite, openssh and a few other programs but nothing else. I'd prefer to go with Ubuntu if possible but another modern distro would do as well (I like using apt-get and yum rather than downloading/compiling etc). So far, I've tried: SuseStudio.com, which is probably the best so far. Pressing F4 to get the boot options on Ubuntu 9.10, but there is no minimal installation (I think there was once). Arch Linux, slightly confusing install procedure but I might go back and try again. Gentoo, started well but fairly soon the HD on the virtual machine went to 2Gb, even before the installation had started in earnest (I'd partitioned the disks is all). I realise there are various "small" Linuxes around like Puppy, Feather, DSL, etc, but they seem to be aimed at desktop users or as a techie's toolkit, and I want a small-as-possible server distro which can be managed with tools like apt or yum or similar. • VNC from Windows to OS X Lion: App stuck in fullscreen mode

  I'm connecting to a remote Mac through a Windows. ahh it gets more complicated than that. I'm sitting by my iMac. I use Virtual Box in it to launch Windows 7. In it I have a VPN connection to a remote Windows network, which allows me to use Remote Desktop to one of the Windows (Vista!) boxes over there. From that Vista box I VNC into a Mac OS X Lion. (Don't ask me why, but that Mac doesn't have a public ip which prevents me from accessing it in the first place.) So: OSXLion - (virtual)Windows7 - Windows Vista - OSX Lion That last Mac was recently upgraded from Snow Leopard. Now with Lion, sometimes apps run in fullscreen. Somehow I can't get out of that fullscreen. Normally you'd move the mouse pointer to the top of screen and a menu list bar drops down allowing you to reach the fullscreen button top right. Now, in my current setup that menu list bar never drops down on the remote Mac at the end of the line. Any ideas?

• What's needed in a complete ASP.NET environment?

  We have a ASP3.0 application with a few ASP.NET (2.0) dittys mixed in. (Our longtime goal is to migrate everything to ASP.NET but that's not important for this issue) Our current test/deploy workflow is like this: 1 Use notepad++ or VS2008 to fix a bug/feature (depending on what I have open) 2 Open my virtual test-server 3 Copy the fixed file over, either with explorer, or if I can be bothered to open it, WinMerge 4 Test that the fix works 5 Close the virtual test-server 6 Connect to our host with VPN 7 Use WinMerge to update the files necessary 8 Pray to higher powers that the production environment is not so different that something bombs. To make things worse, only I have access to my "test-server". So I'm the only one testing it. I really want to make this a bit more robust, I even have a subversion setup running. But I always forget to commit changes... And I don't even work in my checked out folder, but a copy of what is currently in production... Can someone recommend some good reading on deploying, testing, staging and stuff like that. I currently use VS2008 and want to use subversion or GIT (or any other free VCS). Since I'm the only developer, teamsystem is not really an option (cost-related). I have found myself developing an "improved" feature, only to find a bug in the same feature in the production system. And since my "improved" feature incorporated deleting some old functionality, I have to fix bugs directly in production... That's not a fun feeling... (I have inherited this system recently... So it's not directly my fault that it is like this ;) )

• How to limit SMTP delivery to hourly batches

  Moved over from StackOverflow. Sorry if you saw it there first In an effort to keep us from being labeled spammers by major ISPs (in addition to SPF records, privacy policies, CANSPAM compliance and the like) - I wanted to limit the amount of mail we send out an hour. Is this possible in W2K3 SMTP server? I was looking at outbound connection properties in the SMTP virtual server config screens...It's just not that clear if tinkering with those settings are going to do what I want. In a nutshell, I'd love mail being sent by this server to queue up and send for example, 5,000 messages every 10 minutes or so. Mail is being sent via ASP.Net. Also, I wouldn't be sending 1 million a day. Probably 30,000 tops - and doing that only a few times a month. I'm just trying to avoid a tidal wave of 30k going out in 1 minute and setting off every network spam monitoring alarm in North America. I know I could do it with a combination console app / scheduled job. My question was if there was an easier way to accomplish this with the Virtual SMTP Server settings on Win2k3 Is this possible?

• Explorer.exe keeps crashing during log in

  I have got a weird problem. My windows 7 has two user accounts (both are administrator). I can log in to one account and do all sort of work. But whenever I try to log in to other account, it shows a blank screen and a messagebox pops up with "windows explorer has stopped working". I can not run any program using runas command (from good profile) too. The task manager and runas programs all show same problem signature. I read the similar question and followed all the steps, but no luck. Later, I viewed the event log and found that, explorer.exe could not access a file. I checked the location but the file is there. The actual message is: Windows cannot access the file C:\Users\testuser\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Caches\{AFBF9F1A-8EE8-4C77-AF34-C647E37CA0D9}.1.ver0x0000000000000020.db for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program Windows Explorer because of this error. The question is, how can I resolve this issue? Should I just delete the file or replace it with another one to stop explorer.exe from crashing? offtopic: What is the content of this file and why it is necessary?

  In times immemorial, back in the day when men were men and blackberries still took AA batteries, we rolled them out to our users for our 100 person operation. At that time, there was no such thing as address list lookups, so we were forced to hack a bit. The ingenious hack we came up with was to mirror the GAL as a public folder and then synch up blackberries to that. While there have been a few downsides here and there, they have been mere annoyances. And our users, having grown fat and prosperous in the intervening years, have been used to seeing every single employee and department here listed on their hand-held automatically. Alas, it appears that Outlook 2010 breaks this functionality as Blackberry desktop manager is completely incompatible with it. Moreover, this presents us with an opportunity to change things for the better given that public folders are going away next time we upgrade exchange. So, we are in search of a tool or technique that will allow us to mimic current functionality--that is to: Push an essentially arbitrary list of ~100 contacts to blackberry address books Said list shall be centrally updated Without requiring desktop manager or exchange public folders. • The SSL certificate doesn't established

  situation following: Windows Server 2008 R2 platform. Certificate installation in the IIS Manager occurs successfully with *.cer file but if I refresh the manager (F5), the certificate vanishes from the list. And, respectively in the Bindings window, at https addition, the certificate is absent in the menu. Thus if to open certificates via the MMS console, it can be seen in the Personal store. Whether there is any possibility to make so that the web server could "see" this certificate or how to make so that it didn't disappear from the list? Prompt how to solve this problem, thanks in advance! P.S. The certificate is acquired in tawte. In total that to me provided, these are account data where it is possible simply with save-pastit the certificate in 2 options: PKCS#7 and X.509. Here is the manual I used. P.S.2 If Complete Certificate Request with *.p7b I get an error: Cannot find the certificate request that is associated with this certificate file. Acertificate request must be comleted on the computer where the request was created.

• Managing arbitrary user permissions under PureFTPd

  I need to provide an FTP service that needs to be web-managed in the simplest way possible. My customer wants to create folders and users, and give them read only or read/write access arbitrarily. For example: The folder 'Documents' should be read only for several users, writable for internal users, and invisible for the rest. The folder 'Pictures' should be read only for journalists, writable for associates, and invisible for the rest. The folder 'Media' should be read only, writable or invisible for arbitrary users specified on the admin. There could be a large number of users and folders. I can't find a good way to accomplish that. I thought that I could give each user a home folder and put symlinks for the folders he has read access to, and make the user part of the folder's group when he has write access too, but now I think that this wouldn't work, because with PureFTPd (or ProFTPd) I can only specify the virtual user's mapping to a system user, and only one GUID for each virtual user. My approach requires that I could specify several GUIDs for each user (one by each folder he has write access to). I need to start programming this admin and I still don't know wich approach would work, if any. ¿Any ideas?

• Setup Firefox to save .pages as .zip automatically

  What do I want to do? I would like Firefox to save files with the .pages extension as .zip files automatically. Scenario You are browsing through your emails and you notice your friend just sent you an email with a file attached (a .pages in this example). Unfortunately, you have a laptop that runs Windows. Your friend continues to send tons of emails with .pages files attached and you are tired of manually saving the files as a .zip file. Ultimately, you would like Firefox to be set up so that the download/file manager recognizes the .pages extension and automatically converts it to a .zip file. What have I done? I have saved files manually by selecting save as "All Files" and setting the extension to .zip. I've gone through Firefox and their documentation and have not found anything on how to complete this task. Why am I doing this? To save time (only a few seconds, not the main reason). I would like to setup a simple solution that "converts" a file automatically without having to recall steps on how to achieve the task manually (for clients who aren't exactly tech savvy). So that clients with Windows can access the files. IMPORTANT NOTE: I am not trying to save the web page, rather an Apple document equivalent to Microsoft Word. UPDATE: The really easy method would be to save one file, right click it, choose properties and open all .pages files up with WinRAR (or any other program that extracts files from a compressed folder). For the sake of learning, I am going to "neglect" this method and continue to do some research on Firefox add-ons. I would still like to have Firefox or the download manager to do the bulk of the work for converting the file.

  I'll try keep it short. Here's the scenario: We have employees all over the world performing similar work i.e. research, generating powerpoint slides, word documents, graphics, etc. Many times a lot of this previous work can be reused for another future project. The current arrangement is email and phone calls which as you would agree is quick if you know where to look but otherwise archaic and very very inefficient. So I am looking for software that will allow me to do the following: Tag files e.g. an investor presentation on cellphone usage in kenya would be tagged investor, cellphone, kenya Manage references e.g. if we read something on the internet, should be able to paste that link in some fashion and tag it as above. Preferably cloud based so that it can be accessed by anybody and additionally would be nice (though NOT must) to have access levels (director, manager, everyone) A nice interface that non technically savvy folks can warm up to ;) A desktop app would be handy so that people don't always have to click upload or something A tree based system is inefficient in this case because content is usually linked across branches and also people might not quite agree on one format of a tree. Tagging works around this very nicely. What I have considered so far: Evernote (for its more professional look) Springpad (for its versatility with content) Mendeley (this is a research manager and in some ways ideal, but i fear its limited to PDFs) The goal is that when somebody wants to look for a document, they don't have to ask a colleague, they can just search with keywords and all relevant information shows up.   My mail server (Ubuntu 10.04) uses mysql for virtual domains, virtual users. For some reason, mysqld has started refusing connections from localhost. I see these in the mail server log: Oct 6 00:31:14 apollo postfix/trivial-rewrite[16888]: fatal: proxy:mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual_domains.cf(0,lock|fold_fix): table lookup problem and: Oct 7 13:39:15 apollo postfix/proxymap[25839]: warning: connect to mysql server 127.0.0.1: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 0 I also get the following in auth.log: Oct 6 22:33:31 apollo mysqld[31775]: refused connect from 127.0.0.1 Telnet to the local port: root@apollo:/var/log/mysql# telnet localhost 3306 Trying ::1... Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. Connection closed by foreign host. root@apollo:/var/log/mysql# I am not sure why this started happening, but there was a disk failure in a RAID 1 pair a bit earlier that day. So it's possible I have a damaged config file or something. But mail was working for at least an hour after the drive event, so who knows for sure? phpmyadmin works fine, and the databases themselves look like they're intact. I think/believe that selinux and iptables are disabled and not running. So ... why is mysqld refusing connections from localhost? What should I check? What processes might cause this if a .conf file or possibly a binary was damaged? Which other log files might contain clues? I've enabled "general logging" in /etc/mysql/my.cnf, but I get no interesting or informative entries there. Thanks, m00tpoint

• Cant kill process on Windows Server 2008!! - Thread in Wait:Executive State

  I hope someone can help me with our issue we are having. We have a major issue with a process that we can not kill and the only way to get rid of the process is to reboot the machine. I have tried killing it from the normal task manager but no joy. I have tried killing it using the taskkill /F command from a command prompt and no joy. The command reports as sucessful but the process remains. I have tried to start task manager with system rights by calling "psexec -s -i -d taskmgr" and attempting to kill the process but no joy I have tried killing it from Process Explorer but again the process remains. I have tried creating a scheduled task that runs under the SYSTEM name to kill the task but that also does not kill it : schtasks /create /ru system /sc once /st 13:16 /tn test1 /tr "taskkill /F /PID 1576" /it Nothing I do will kill this process. Even logging off and logging back on will not kill this process. Using Process Explorer I notice that there is on stubborn thread that is in the Wait:Executive state. I have tried to kill this thread using Process Explorer but again no joy. We are using Windows Server 2008 R2 64-Bit. The server is brand new and windows is freshly installed. Now heres the thing. We have brought two identical servers from Dell with the same specs and the same OS installed and I can not replicate this issue on the other server. Only on this server, under certain circumstances does this server process hang and can not be restarted! I have also changed the compatability mode by setting it the process to "Windows 2003" but this has not helped. I have noticed in Process Explorer that DEP is turned on but im not sure this has got any bearing on the issue ot not. Please, can someone help??

  I have three SyncMaster 932a monitors I want to use with two Radeon X1600/X1650 cards under Linux. I am running X.org X Server 1.6.0, as provided by Ubuntu's Wubi installer. After turning off mirroring, I ended up with this xorg.conf: Section "Monitor" Identifier "Configured Monitor" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Monitor "Configured Monitor" Device "Configured Video Device" SubSection "Display" Virtual 2560 1024 EndSubSection EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" EndSection The left monitor had a menu bar and a task bar, the center monitor was just desktop, and windows would maximize to the current monitor. The third monitor and second graphics card weren't being used at all. Windows cannot be dragged from the first two monitors to the third monitor. Also, maximizing in the left or center window fills both monitors. I also tried adding Option "Xinerama" "true" to the ServerLayout section. X11 wasn't able to start up. I want to: Allow moving windows along all three monitors. Maximizing only fills the current monitor. Either have menu/task bars on only the left monitor or all three monitors How can I make this possible?

• Codec Problems with trying to edit videos with VirtualDub

  So, I'm a little frustrated. According to this post and various other internet sources, virtualdub is supposed to allow users to quickly split and join video files. I am using windows 7 64 Bit and the latest version of VirtualDub (64-bit). I have tried to edit various movie files, and each attempt at editing various files I have done has not worked for me. AVI file A.avi won't load, saying that it can't located the Decompressor for the "FMP4" format. I have tried this solution and this one, and neither of them work. I have tried setting the VFW Decompressor for 'Other MPEG4' setting to XVID or LIBAVCODEC. There is no change in Virtual Dub. AVI file C.avi will load in Virtual Dub, but any attempt to split it gives me an error that I don't have XVID codecs installed. I've attempted to install the proper codecs (Shark's Windows 7 Codecs, CCCP) with no change. AVI file C.avi will load, and it will split, but won't split using the "Direct Stream Copy" claiming the compression algorithm is incompatible. I tried the "Fast Recompress" option and it created a 27GB file out of what was supposed to be about a 300-400MB file. Can someone please give me some insight into what I'm messing up?

  I'm trying to build libmemcached with SASL support on OS X Mountain Lion. • Custom keyboard map is causing issues with stuck keys

When I hit Control_R and Mode_switch at the same time (happens a lot by accident), the Mode_switch key gets into a 'stuck' state, all letters I type afterwards come out in their umlaut form as if Mode_switch is pressed. I can unstuck the Mode_switch by again hitting Control_R and Mode_switch at the same time, but that leaves Gnome in a broken state where it doesn't react to my Gnome keyboard shortcuts any longer. The key presses themselves are still registered by the window manager as one can see changes in the applications (cursor in Gnome Terminal will turn into an unfilled rect, as if the application lost focus), but don't trigger the bound action. Does anybody have a clue what could be causing this? Or does anybody has an idea how I could debug this? xev doesn't seem to help here, as it is reporting normal KeyPress/KeyRelease events, even when the key is stuck. Also the Gnome key bindings don't get reported at all when its in the 'broken' state. I assume they are captured by the window manager before they even reach xev. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome and Metacity, I have disabled all OpenGL related effects, so Compiz shouldn't interfere. Some general info on which applications are involved in Gnomes key binding handling would be helpful as well, as I assume its metacity, but restarting metacity doesn't fix the issue.

• GUI interfaces to ATI card behave weirdly out of the box and after updates.

  My Lenovo W500 came with an ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 and both the Catalyst control center software and Vista display manager display four monitors. What's really annoying is the behaviour. My two active displays (laptop display + my external monitor) are always #s 3 and 4 respectively which doesn't make sense. This is out of the box. Additionally dragging & dropping is jumpy and displays #1 and 2 (always inactive because they don't exist to the software) are often preventing me from dragging #3 and 4 to the rightmost side. They also auto-snap to weird positions and certain sensible positions like position one directly over top of the other are not possible. The exact same annoyances are present when using the Windows Display manager too. In other words the interface is crap and I'm looking for a fix that's not wishing I had gone with nVidia instead. I've updated drivers, and Catalyst control centre. Have latest Windows and AMD/ATI updates. Any thoughts? • virtualbox instances dedicated-server with custom dnsmasq

  I have dedicated server where I planned to run virtualbox virtual machines. Since the VMs are managed with vagrant/chef I may end up with many different ones. I thought it would be a great idea to deploy a dnsmasq on the server, which is going to dynamically assign the ip addresses to the VMs. Since each Vagrant/Chef recipe is configured to set the VM's host name I can find/reference the appropriate VM by the host name. Finally, the entire infrastructure is not directly accessible via internet, so the dedicated Server is the OpenVPN host. On the Dedicated Server I don't see the vboxnet0 interface but VirtualBox is installed without GUI. Accessing of virtual boxes via ssh works fine. Did I miss smth? DNSMasq must serve the local VMs only, otherwise there is a chance that local DNSMasq start to serve other server's on the network, what I don't want. Because I don't see vboxnet0 I tend to use no-dhcp-interface=eth0 config option. Are there any thoughts on that despite, the fact that a second NW-card (which is not the case), might start serving DHCP-Requests? How should I config the VM's network interface that I am able to access it via OpenVPN and resolve the hostnames using the DNSMasq. I think it should be the host-only network card. Should I do bridging in the OpenVPN config or is it sufficient to use routing.

• vmware esxi 5, cant create snapshots and consolidate fails, how to delete old or consolidate redo logs?

  I have a VM that seems to be working ok, but when VMWare DR (or I) tries to create a snap shot, it fails, and when I view the summary page of the VM it has a warning at the top showing that the disks need to be consolidated. So I go to snapshot manager for the VM and choose consolidate (in snapshot manager, there are no snapshots actually listed by the way). If fails with this error: This virtual machine has 255 or more redo logs in a single branch of its snapshot tree. The maximum supported limit has been reached, creating new snapshots will not be allowed. To create new snapshots, please delete old snapshots or consolidate the redo logs. If I browse the data store (which has plenty of free space, 2 TB and this vm is under 40gb), in the vm folder, I do in fact see a bunch of files, numbered all the way to 0255: myvm-000255-ctk.vmdk myvm-000255-delta.vmdk myvm-000255.vmdk How can I clean all this up? Is there an SSH command line command or can I delete some of the files safely? Thanks!
