• JSF/HTML - Add a Java applet to web page programmatically.

  Theres a web page I'm making which content is very dynamic and so I'm building it from inside the backing bean. I would like to add a Java applet to the web page but I could not find the JSF component type to correspond to the <applet> tag. So My questions are - What is the JSF component type for an applet? How did you find it? (For similar future searches) Thanks! P.S - Just to be clear. An example: <h:PanelGroup> would be HtmlPanelGroup as a java object.

• RSS feed without items

  I have webpage where I have a search page. I provide a "dynamic" RSS feed for search so that a user can subscribe to search results for any search term he likes. So I was wondering what is the standard (or best practise) way to do if that search term returns 0 results which means I have no "items" to put in the feed. Do I just return an empty feed (only including the meta data and no item elements). Or should I put some special item element in the feed with some "no results" text? edit: YouTube returns a feed without any item elements. If no-one can answer me I'll take it that this is the right way of doing it since I can't find any info elsewhere :)

• jquery ui-effects-wrapper causing havoc

  Hi all, I am using jquery-ui and at some point I use the show and hide functions quite heavily to animate changing images coming in and out. From some reason, after a few tries all of a sudden the controls on my page stop responding to clicks. After a bit of poking arround using firebug I discovered my page is filled with div's of the class ui-effects-wrapper. I have no idea why this happens or how to stop it. If I remove these divs I can no longer see the images I've been animating. Any ideas?

  If I have Map setup like: map.put("foo", "123"); map.put("bar", "456"); map.put("baz", "789"); then I want to do something like: for (String key : map.keySet().toArray(new String[0])) { // marshall out to .xml a tag with the name key and the // value map.get(key) } So what it will marshal out is something like: <map> <foo>123</foo> <bar>456</bar> <baz>789</baz> </map> Can I do this with some fancy JAXB annotations or is there something else that lends it self to dynamic element names?   Basically, how do I link an Outlook form and a C# back end? In VB you can write on the form Sub ButtonName_Click() Dim Recipients With Item.GetInspector.ModifiedFormPages("Message") Set Recipients = .Controls("To") End With End Sub which will fire whenever the button named "ButtonName" on the form is clicked and will set the variable Recipients to a string of whatever is in the To text box. Now I have a custom form, and I have a VS C# Outlook Add-in, and they're two separate things. I've got an event handler that can catch MailItem objects, but I don't know how to handle custom form button clicks or even how to access elements on the form. EDIT - Just to clarify, the custom form was created in Outlook and then its .ofs was imported into VS. Both Outlook and VS are 2010.

• dymanic columns in mysql tables?

  i want to add dynamic columns in a mysql table. but i dont know exactly how. i want to let the user add some columns (fields) in a thread. eg. let him add a integer field and a value (eg. price: 199) or a string field and a value (eg. name: teddybear). the user can add as many field/value-pairs as he wants. i thought i could create a many-to-many table: thread <- thread_field <- field thread: id, title thread_field: field_id, thread_id, value field: id, name is this a good structure? but in this way i have to set a specific column type of thread_field.value. either its an integer or a string. i want to have the possibility to have it dymanic, let the user choose. how can i do this? thanks!

• Assign the results of a stored procedure into a variable in another stored procedure

  The title of this question is a bit misleading, but I couldn't summarize this very well. I have two stored procedures. The first stored procedure (s_proc1) calls a second stored procedure (s_proc2). I want to assign the value returned from s_proc2 to a variable in s_proc1. Currently, I'm calling s_proc2 (inside s_proc1) in this manner: EXEC s_proc2 @SiteID, @count = @PagingCount OUTPUT s_proc2 contains a dynamic query statement (for reasons I will not outline here). CREATE dbo.s_proc2 ( @siteID int, @count int OUTPUT ) AS DECLARE @sSQL nvarchar(100) DECLARE @xCount int SELECT @sSQL = 'SELECT COUNT(ID) FROM Authors' EXEC sp_ExecuteSQL @sSQL, N'@xCount int output', @xCount output SET @count = @xCount RETURN @count Will this result in @PagingCount having the value of @count? I ask because the result I am getting from s_proc1 is wonky. In fact, what I do get is two results. The first being @count, then the result of s_proc1 (which is incorrect). So, it makes me wonder if @PagingCount isn't being set properly. Thank you.

• Lots of pointer casts in QGraphicsView framework and performance

  Since most of the convenience functions of QGraphicsScene and QGraphicsItem (such as items(), collidingItems(), childItems() etc.) return a QList you're forced to do lots of qgraphicsitem_cast or static_cast and QGraphicsItem::Type() checks to get hold of the actual items when you have lots of different type of items in the scene. I thought doing lots of subclass casts were not a desirable coding style, but I guess in this case there are no other viable way, or is there? QList<QGraphicsItem *> itemsHit = someItem->collidingItems(Qt::IntersectsItemShape); foreach (QGraphicsItem *item, itemsHit) { if (item->type() == QGraphicsEllipseItem::type()) { QGraphicsEllipseItem *ellipse = qgraphicsitem_cast<QGraphicsEllipseItem *>(item); // do something } else if (item->type() == MyItemSubclass::type()) { MyItemSubClass *myItem = qgraphicsitem_cast<MyItemSubClass *>(item); // do something } // etc } The above qgraphicsitem_cast could be replaced by static_cast since correct type is already verified. When doing lots of these all the time (very dynamic scene), will the numerous casting affect performance beyond the normal if-else evaluation?

  I was looking for an InternalFrame for JavaFX. Apparently I it seems like there is no InternalFrame available. How does one create an MDI application with JavaFX? I have tried to simulate this behavior by using a custom Region that can be dragged around. Is that the way to go? What about typical window elements such as titlebar, possibility to resize etc. Do I have to implement that myself via custom controls? Thanks, miho

• how to protect an imported win32 dll into a .net application from memory issues

  I have a c# application that needs to use a legacy win32 dll. The dll is almost its own app, it has dialogs, operations with hardware, etc. When this dll is imported and used, there are a couple of problems that occur: Dragging a dialog (not a windows system dialog, but one created by the dll) across the managed code app causes the UI to not repaint. Further it generates a system out of memory exception from various ui controls. The performance is incredibly slow. There seems to be no way to unload the dll so the memory never gets cleaned up. When we close our managed app, we get another memory exception. At the moment we import each method call as such: [DllImport("dllname.dll", EntryPoint = "MethodName", SetLastError = true, CharSet = CharSet.Auto, ExactSpelling = true, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)]

• How to find the width of the div or check wheather horizontal scroll apeear or not?

  I want to print the page (div) if there is no horizontal scroll appear for that div. I have a div (1000px) with dynamic data which having property overflow:auto;. So, i want to print the div only if div's width is not getting crossed. to achieve this i used following method of a javascript var curr_width = parseInt(mydiv.style.width); But it gives 1000px; only althogh i can see horizontal scrollbar for the div. What should i do to achive this. Can i check wheather horizontal scrollbar is appear for the div or not. Any help is appreciated. NOTE:- i don't want to use any javascript library.

• Creating a Non-Databound Report in Winforms

  I am using Visual Studio 2008 and all the components that come with it as well as Infragisitics for Winforms. I need to design a label that will print to a label printer. None of the controls are databound and will most likely be set in code eg/Label.Text = "My Heading"; as there will be minimal information on the label. One piece of information is a barcode so I need the functionality to do that, I assume I can just set the font of the label to barcode and it will do its thing. Can I just add a Crystal Report to a form design it, set the label text properties in code, tell it what printer to print to and then call report.Print(); I've had a quick go and seems not as easy as I thought. How can I check if the HR tag is present between classes CTEMA and add one if not present?

Is it possible to build a polished, somewhat feature rich browser UI while being sheltered from the archaic environment of HTML and JavaScript?   I am trying to redirect a page reading the url from the config file. However, when I try this: <script type="text/javascript"> <%string redirectUrl = System.Web.Configuration.WebConfigurationManager.AppSettings["RedirectURL"];%> window.parent.location.replace("<%=redirectUrl%>"); </script> the alligator tags <% % are Not being highlighted, and when I run I get the following error in the yellow screen: the controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e. <% ... %>). The problem is that I can't figure out how to add an array.each to populate the options of the select field within the javascript without breaking the HAML indentation and causing errors. I want to move the map center and zoom into the area with most items. Naively, I can calculate the superposition of all the points, but I would like to remove the points that are very far from the mass of points from the calculation. • Way around ASP.NET session being shared across multiple tab windows

  I'm storing some value in an asp.net session on the first page. On the next page, this session value is being read. However if multiple tabs are opened and there are multiple page 1-page 2 navigation going on, the value stored in session gets mixed up since the session is shared between the browser tabs. I'm wondering what are the options around this : Query String: Passing value between the pages using query string, I don't want to take this approach since there can be multiple anchor tags on page 1 linking to page 2 and I can not rewrite the URLs of each tag since they are dynamic. Cookies??? In-memory cookies are shared across browser tabs too, same as the session cookie, rite ? Any other option?

Any ideas?
