• Windows Media Center Missing?

  I'm running Windows Vista SP2 64-bit, but it was SP1 when I bought the laptop. It came with Windows Media Center, but I originally found no use for it, so I deleted the shortcut. Now I DO want to use it, and I can't find it anywhere. However, when I insert a DVD, the option to play it with Windows Media Center will appear, and it will launch Windows Media Center, so I must still have it on my system somewhere. My question is, where? Is there an easy way to just run the program using the Run window?

• How do I open multiple windows when Outlook 2010 starts?

  OS: Windows 7 64-bit App: Outlook 2010 32-bit Server: Exchange 2010 I'd like to modify Outlook's default startup behavior so that it shows both my Inbox and Calendar when I click my shortcut. I use both of them all day, and know how to just right-click the calendar and select "Open in New Window." I run my inbox on one screen and my calendar on another. I also configured my calendar to be the folder that opens by default when I start Outlook so I don't miss early appointments, but if I could somehow have BOTH open in two separate windows, that would be awesome. Is there a command-line interface or something that can accomplish this? Thanks in advance.

• vim: highlighting a search term without moving the cursor

  Using Vim, I sometimes find myself staring at a section of source code for a while and suddenly want some variable on the screen to pop out. That's easy: /<var> which highlights them all. My issue is that it more often than not the search shifts my window so I'm not looking at the source code from the same place. Even if it's only shifted a few lines, it's still throws me off since I need to take a few seconds to figure out where things have moved to. Is it possible to highlight a search term without moving the cursor to the next match?

• Windows 2008 Server Unable to activate with other methods

  I'm trying to activate windows 2008 server SP2 today since the activation trial is done. I do not have an internet connection with this server so I can not activate online, and with the other servers in this farm I've been able to run the slmgr -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx and then it would open up the activate by phone method and we would just activate that way. I say again, I don't have an internet connection so I can not do the online activate. If I do the slui 4 it brings up the activation window but show me other ways to activate is still greyed out. I've disabled the NIC on this Hyper-V server and I still can not get the other way to activate to show up... Anyone have any ideas? This computer is one of my AD servers so.. it being in notification mode kind of sucks. Thanks.

  I am looking for a utility to move windows around on a multiscreen (usualy dual screen) setup. So with a keybord shortcut (or mousclick) I would like to send a windows to another monitor. I am using this functionality a lot when I give presentations. I'll lookup something on my mainscreen and then send the window to the screen or beamer where others can see it. Its also useful when working or when I want to send a screen from my computer to the TV screen that is hooked up to the computer. I know two solutions for a) Windows b) Mac OS but none yet for Linux. I'll post my windows and Mac OS solutions as answer and would be interested in other opinions.

• How to set which IP to use for a HTTP request?

  This is probably a silly question. I'm doing some http requests using wget from the command line, and I want those connections to be made through one specific IP of the 4 IPs my server has. Those http requests go to one specific range of IPs so I only want those to be routed differently. The 4 interfaces in my server are eth0, eth0:0, eth0:1, eth0:2. I tried with the following command: route add -net 192.164.10.0/24 dev eth0:0 But when I see the routing table it says: Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 192.164.10.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 The interface is set to eth0 not eth0:0 as my command says. What am I doing wrong?

• Navigate to a virtual member from the member that overrides it

  Using visual studio, in the editor window, I am able to navigate from the usage of a member to the line and file where it is declared by pressing F12 while the cursor is over that member by or right clicking on the member and selecting "Go To Definition". I would like to find a way to navigate from an override member to the base class member that it overrides. For example, if I have the following class with one method public class SomeClass { public virtual void TheMethod() { // do something } } An I override that method somewhere else in the project or solution similar to the following public OtherClass : SomeClass { public override void TheMethod() { // do something else } } I want to navigate from the declaration of TheMethod in OtherClass to the declaration of TheMethod in SomeClass Is there a way to do this? I've found that I can find the definition of the member in the base class by pressing Shift + F12 (Find all References) and then looking through the list occurances, this works fine most of the time, since the list isn't usually that long but it would be much better to have a way to go there directly.

• Force Windows 8 to search indexed files

  When using search files in Windows 8 (win+f) I don't get expected results. For example, I installed VLC, it's in Program Files (86) folder, and that folder is selected for indexing. Search for files (win+f) gives 0 results. If I pin to start that exe, then it's found - but I don't want to do this, that's not the point. Where does it search for files? Is there any way to specify search locations? It doesn't use Indexing Options settings, at least it seams so. Also, searching from explorer window is kinda slow - I tried entering VLC.EXE in search box (when in c:\ root), and it takes some time to give correct results. It works, but it looks like it doesn't use indexing, rather scan all files/folders, which is slow.

• "Deny log on through Terminal Serivces" insists on "Everyone"

  We've got a standalone (non-domain) server where "Deny log on through Terminal Services" contains "Everyone" -- ok, we didn't want that, not sure how it got set, but whatever. We removed it ...and "Everyone" came back. Tried adding "Guest" to the deny list, removing "Everyone" ...which ended up with the setting containing "Everyone, Guest" Clearly there's another setting somewhere that's preempting this one, but it beats me which one. Any ideas? ("Everyone" is being shown as reset upon reloading the Local Security Settings window, so it's possible that it's not actually being changed in the underlying store, and just shows the change in the UI)

• Windows non-responsive during Remote Desktop connection

  This is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I use the command mstsc to establish a Remote Desktop connction to a remote server. The login window shows up, and while I'm entering the password the system almost freezes. Each character of the password takes 3 or 4 seconds to be accepted, and all other opened programs are not accessible. This behavior tends to happen only the first time I use mstsc. If I used it again moments later, everything is normal. Whar can be the cause of this problem?

  Has anybody written a bash function to add a directory to $PATH only if it's not already there? I typically add to PATH using something like: export PATH=/usr/local/mysql/bin:$PATH If I construct my PATH in .bash_profile, then it's not read unless the session I'm in is a login session -- which isn't always true. If I construct my PATH in .bashrc, then it runs with each subshell. So if I launch a Terminal window and then run screen and then run a shell script, I get: $ echo $PATH /usr/local/mysql/bin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:.... I'm going to try building a bash function called add_to_path() which only adds the directory if it's not there. But, if anybody has already written (or found) such a thing, I won't spend the time on it.

SQL SERVER 2005 :- Installed correctly without any error, but when I opened Management studio, it is not showing any server name, I tried to put systemName , systemName/Sqlexpress. Visual Studio 2008: After 8-9 minute of successful installation , I received a error in installing & I had no more option other than closing the installer window. I really don't have any idea about installing it in Windows 7. Please help Thanks in advance.

  I have a 250GB HDD for my system and a 60GB SSD using a SATA port. I installed most of my applications on the SSD. There's a strange thing though. I can not change the default open-with program to a program which is on the SSD. I think it may be caused by permission so I gave my user a 'full control' permission on the security tab in disk properties. But changing permissions is not work. After I choose an application (I've tried Notepad++, Sublime, 7Zip, etc.), nothing is added in the below window: Also, if I install 7Zip on my machine, the right click menu items can not be added.

  There are a few common issues reported when starting weblogic server using scripts. 1. User is not able to access weblogic console. 2. After a few days/hours weblogic server stops abruptly. 3. When user closes putty, they are not able to connect to weblogic server anymore. 4. When user closes windows command prompt, they are not able to connect to weblogic server anymore. 5. Weblogic is started using startManagedWebLogic.cmd/startManagedWebLogic.sh. By default, WebLogic Server does not run in background mode, so after you close the window the process finishes as well.   My small laptop has a small keyboard, which lacks a Pause/Break key. Ctrl-Alt-Break toggles Full Screen mode in Windows Remote Desktop. Without a Break key, how can I enter Full Screen mode? I know I can exit fullscreen mode with the mouse. Maximizing the window doesn't help. This matters more on small laptops because the screens are small (so you need all the real estate you can get) and because the keyboard lacks dedicated PgUp/PgDn and other dedicated keys (so I can't easily use the RDP alternatives like Alt-PgUp).

  Do you prefer keeping your Taskbar hidden but still need to keep watch on what time it is? Now you can keep track of the time without the Taskbar using the Date Today extension for Google Chrome. A Look at Date Today with Different Themes This extension does one thing and does it well…it provides you with an “active icon” clock that will let you view the time and date in two fashions. The first is by hovering your mouse over the “Toolbar Clock Button”… And the second is by clicking on the “Toolbar Clock Button” to view an enlarged version. Here you can see the extension in use with five different themes to get an idea of how it might look with the theme that you are currently using. It does stand out very nicely with brighter or darker colored themes.   If you’re doing any work with networking, you probably need to know the name of your computer. Rather than diving into Control Panel, there’s a really simple way to do this from the command prompt. Note: If you haven’t already, be sure to read our complete guide to networking Windows 7 with XP and Vista. To see the hostname… all you have to do is type hostname at the command prompt. Go figure, eh? The same thing works in Linux or OS X, though you can see that most of the time the hostname is part of the prompt anyway. Note: you can also change the hostname by simply typing “hostname <newhostname>”. Of course, the easiest way to see your computer name in Windows is to just hit the Win+Break key combination, which will pop up the System pane from Control Panel.   If you want to change it instead, you can always change your computer name easily through Control Panel. • Ubuntu 11.10 w/ Cinnamon - Icons are gone and pictures do not display

  I'm new on this site and new to using Ubuntu and all. I currently have Ubuntu 11.10 and Cinnamon along with it. I've recently downloaded only a few applications, like the Adobe shockwave as well as a few games. After the downloads, the icons for the windows (the close, minimize, and maximize) are nothing but streaks of colours, and now just plain black, picture previews in my picture folder is gone, some icons on the panels are missing, and icons in the control center are gone. I'm sure more are gone, but that's the ones that I see often. I'm not sure what caused this to happen?? Please get back to me soon! I'm worried about what has happened. ): This is my only laptop to get online. I have no other way besides the library but that takes too long.. EDIT: Okay, I had asked my sister for some help and she helped me restore my minimize, maximize, and close button but I still haven't figured out how to show the icons in the cinnamon dock (which I have set at the top of the window) and how to have my pictures show up again. All of my pictures are just blank and I can't even preview them. They still have their file names but that is it. I'm not sure what has happened. I haven't downloaded any new apps as of the new edit.

• How to resolve problematic vnc/xming clipboard interaction?

  I often have both a VNC client window and several X windows open (via Xming) at the same time on my Windows XP desktop. When this happens, the X windows, especially emacs and firefox, often lock up or behave erratically. I am pretty sure I have narrowed this down to contention over the clipboard. I wasn't really able to find any options controlling this behavior in either Xming or VNC. Is there a solution to this problem? Right now, I have to close VNC when I am actively using emacs...

In particular, I couldnt understand what was the purpose of cat my.fifo | nc remotehost.tld 10000 In my case, I have a process running and waiting for input. how can I send input to that process using named pipes? I've tried echo 'h' > /proc/PID/fd/0 it just displays 'h' on the process' window.
