  • Why won't my code work in Ubuntu Server 11.10? Is it because of gd library?

    - by Derrick
    I get this error when running the following code: No such file found at "widgets/104-text.png" I know that the code works because it works on my other non-ubuntu server. I do not know if it is gd library or what. I tried both the bundled version and the non-bundled and both do not make this code work. $con = mysql_connect("localhost","user","abc123"); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("satabase_name", $con); $productid2 = $this->product->id; $thename = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM pshop_product_lang WHERE id_product = '$productid2' LIMIT 1"); $thename2 = mysql_fetch_array($thename); $string2 = $thename2['name']; $string = (strlen($string2) > 25) ? substr($string2, 0, 25) . '/' . $gotimg110[id_image] . '-large_default.jpg', )); $pinguLayer3 = new ImageWorkshop(array( 'imageFromPath' => 'widgets/' . $productid2 . '-text.png', )); // resize pingu layer $thumbWidth2 = 150; // px $thumbHeight2 = 150; $thumbWidth = 400; // px $thumbHeight = 200; $pinguLayer2->resizeInPixel($thumbWidth2, $thumbHeight2); $pinguLayer->resizeInPixel($thumbWidth, $thumbHeight); // Add 2 layers on pingu layer $pinguLayer->addLayerOnTop($pinguLayer2, null, null, 'LM'); $pinguLayer->addLayerOnTop($pinguLayer3, 70, 25, 'MM'); // Saving the result in a folder $pinguLayer->save("widgets/", $productid2 .   • Removing occurrences of characters in a string

    - by DmainEvent
    I am reading this book, programming Interviews exposed by John Wiley and sons and in chapter 6 they are discussing removing all instances of characters in a src string using a removal string... so removeChars(string str, string remove) In there writeup they sey the steps to accomplish this are to have a boolean lookup array with all values initially set to false, then loop through each character in remove setting the corresponding value in the lookup array to true (note: this could also be a hash if the possible character set where huge like Unicode-16 or something like that or if str and remove are both relatively small... < 100 characters I suppose). You then iterate through the str with a source and destination index, copying each character only if its corresponding value in the lookup array is false... Which makes sense... I don't understand the code that they use however... They have for(src = 0; src < len; ++src){ flags[r[src]] == true; } which is turning the flag value at the remove string indexed at src to true... so if you start out with PLEASE HELP as your str and LEA as your remove you will be setting in your flag table at 0,1,2... t|t|t but after that you will get an out of bounds exception because r doesn't have have anything greater than 2 in it... even using there example you get an out of bounds exception... Am is there code example unworkable? Entire function string removeChars( string str, string remove ){ char[] s = str.toCharArray(); char[] r = remove.toCharArray(); bool[] flags = new bool[128]; // assumes ASCII! int len = s.Length; int src, dst; // Set flags for characters to be removed for( src = 0; src < len; ++src ){ flags[r[src]] = true; } src = 0; dst = 0; // Now loop through all the characters, // copying only if they aren’t flagged while( src < len ){ if( !flags[ (int)s[src] ] ){ s[dst++] = s[src]; } ++src; } return new string( s, 0, dst ); } as you can see, r comes from the remove string. So in my example the remove string has only a size of 3 while my str string has a size of 11. len is equal to the length of the str string. So it would be 11. How can I loop through the r string since it is only size 3? I haven't compiled the code so I can loop through it, but just looking at it I know it won't work. I am thinking they wanted to loop through the r string... in other words they got the length of the wrong string here.

  • Intern Screening - Software 'Quiz'

    - by Jeremy1026
    I am in charge of selecting a new software development intern for a company that I work with. I wanted to throw a little 'quiz' at the applicants before moving forth with interviews so as to weed out the group a little bit to find some people that can demonstrate some skill. I put together the following quiz to send to applicants, it focuses only on PHP, but that is because that is what about 95% of the work will be done in. I'm hoping to get some feedback on A. if its a good idea to send this to applicants and B. if it can be improved upon. # 1. FizzBuzz # Write a small application that does the following: # Counts from 1 to 100 # For multiples of 3 output "Fizz" # For multiples of 5 output "Buzz" # For multiples of 3 and 5 output "FizzBuzz" # For numbers that are not multiples of 3 nor 5 output the number. <?php ?> # 2. • Why is this beat detection code failing to register some beats properly?

    - by Quincy
    I made this SoundAnalyzer class to detect beats in songs: class SoundAnalyzer { public SoundBuffer soundData; public Sound sound; public List<double> beatMarkers = new List<double>(); public SoundAnalyzer(string path) { soundData = new SoundBuffer(path); sound = new Sound(soundData); } // C = threshold, N = size of history buffer / 1024 B = bands public void PlaceBeatMarkers(float C, int N, int B) { List<double>[] instantEnergyList = new List<double>[B]; GetEnergyList(B, ref instantEnergyList); for (int i = 0; i < B; i++) { PlaceMarkers(instantEnergyList[i], N, C); } beatMarkers.Sort(); } private short[] getRange(int begin, int end, short[] array) { short[] result = new short[end - begin]; for (int i = 0; i < end - begin; i++) { result[i] = array[begin + i]; } return result; } // get a array of with a list of energy for each band private void GetEnergyList(int B, ref List<double>[] instantEnergyList) { for (int i = 0; i < B; i++) { instantEnergyList[i] = new List<double>(); } short[] samples = soundData.Samples; float timePerSample = 1 / (float)soundData.SampleRate; int sampleIndex = 0; int nextSamples = 1024; int samplesPerBand = nextSamples / B; // for the whole song while (sampleIndex + nextSamples < samples.Length) { complex[] FFT = FastFourier.Calculate(getRange(sampleIndex, nextSamples + sampleIndex, samples)); // foreach band for (int i = 0; i < B; i++) { double energy = 0; for (int j = 0; j < samplesPerBand; j++) energy += FFT[i * samplesPerBand + j].GetMagnitude(); energy /= samplesPerBand; instantEnergyList[i].Add(energy); } if (sampleIndex + nextSamples >= samples.Length) nextSamples = samples.Length - sampleIndex - 1; sampleIndex += nextSamples; samplesPerBand = nextSamples / B; } } // place the actual markers private void PlaceMarkers(List<double> instantEnergyList, int N, float C) { double timePerSample = 1 / (double)soundData.SampleRate; int index = N; int numInBuffer = index; double historyBuffer = 0; //Fill the history buffer with n * instant energy for (int i = 0; i < index; i++) { historyBuffer += instantEnergyList[i]; } // If instantEnergy / samples in buffer < instantEnergy for the next sample then add beatmarker. while (index + 1 < instantEnergyList.Count) { if(instantEnergyList[index + 1] > (historyBuffer / numInBuffer) * C) beatMarkers.Add((index + 1) * 1024 * timePerSample); historyBuffer -= instantEnergyList[index - numInBuffer]; historyBuffer += instantEnergyList[index + 1]; index++; } } } For some reason it's only detecting beats from 637 sec to around 641 sec, and I have no idea why. I know the beats are being inserted from multiple bands since I am finding duplicates, and it seems that it's assigning a beat to each instant energy value in between those values. It's modeled after this: http://www.flipcode.com/misc/BeatDetectionAlgorithms.pdf So why won't the beats register properly?

  • glutPostRedisplay() does not update display

    - by A D
    I am currently drawing a rectangle to the screen and would like to move it by using the arrow keys. However, when I press an arrow key the vertex data changes but the display does refresh to reflect these changes, even though I am calling glutPostRedisplay(). Is there something else that I must do? My code: #include <GL/glew.h> #include <GL/freeglut.h> #include <GL/freeglut_ext.h> #include <iostream> #include "Shaders.h" using namespace std; const int NUM_VERTICES = 6; const GLfloat POS_Y = -0.1; const GLfloat NEG_Y = -0.01; struct Vertex { GLfloat x; GLfloat y; Vertex() : x(0), y(0) {} Vertex(GLfloat givenX, GLfloat givenY) : x(givenX), y(givenY) {} }; Vertex left_paddle[NUM_VERTICES]; void init() { glClearColor(1.0f, 1.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f); left_paddle[0] = Vertex(-0.95f, 0.95f); left_paddle[1] = Vertex(-0.95f, 0.0f); left_paddle[2] = Vertex(-0.85f, 0.95f); left_paddle[3] = Vertex(-0.85f, 0.95f); left_paddle[4] = Vertex(-0.95f, 0.0f); left_paddle[5] = Vertex(-0.85f, 0.0f); GLuint vao; glGenVertexArrays( 1, &vao ); glBindVertexArray( vao ); GLuint buffer; glGenBuffers(1, &buffer); glBindBuffer(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, buffer); glBufferData(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, sizeof(left_paddle), NULL, GL_STATIC_DRAW); GLuint program = init_shaders( "vshader.glsl", "fshader.glsl" ); glUseProgram( program ); GLuint loc = glGetAttribLocation( program, "vPosition" ); glEnableVertexAttribArray( loc ); glVertexAttribPointer( loc, 2, GL_FLOAT, GL_FALSE, 0, 0); glBindVertexArray(vao); } void movePaddle(Vertex* array, GLfloat change) { for(int i = 0; i < NUM_VERTICES; i++) { array[i].y = array[i].y + change; } glutPostRedisplay(); } void special( int key, int x, int y ) { switch ( key ) { case GLUT_KEY_DOWN: movePaddle(left_paddle, NEG_Y); break; } } void display() { glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT | GL_DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT); glDrawArrays(GL_TRIANGLES, 0, 6); glutSwapBuffers(); } int main(int argc, char **argv) { glutInit(&argc, argv); glutInitDisplayMode(GLUT_DOUBLE | GLUT_RGB); glutInitWindowSize(500,500); glutCreateWindow("Rectangle"); glewInit(); init(); glutDisplayFunc(display); glutSpecialFunc(special); glutMainLoop(); return 0; }

  • How can I make this script output each categories item per category [closed]

    - by Duice352
    Ok so here is the deal currently this script outputs all the products in a parent category as well as the products in the child categories. What i would like to do is seperate the output based on child categories. All the child categories are in the array $children and the string $childs. The parent category is the first array element of $children with the following ones being the actual children. The category names are stored in the database $result as " $cat_name ". I want to first Display the cat_name then the products that fall in that category and then display the next child cat_name and items, ect. Any suggestions of how to manipulate the while loop that cylcles through the rows? <?php $productsPerRow = 3; $productsPerPage = 15; //$productList = getProductList($catId); $children = array_merge(array($catId), getChildCategories(NULL, $catId)); $childs = ' (' . implode(', ', $children) . ')'; $sql = "SELECT pd_id, pd_name, pd_price, pd_thumbnail, pd_qty, c.cat_id, c.cat_name FROM tbl_product pd, tbl_category c WHERE pd.cat_id = c.cat_id AND pd.cat_id IN $childs ORDER BY pd_name"; $result = dbQuery(getPagingQuery($sql, $productsPerPage)); $pagingLink = getPagingLink($sql, $productsPerPage, "c=$catId"); $numProduct = dbNumRows($result); // the product images are arranged in a table. to make sure // each image gets equal space set the cell width here $columnWidth = (int)(100 / $productsPerRow); ?> <p><?php if(isset($_GET['m'])){echo "You must select a model first! After you select your model you can customize your dragster parts.";} ?> </p> <p align="center"><?php echo $pagingLink; ?></p> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="20"> <?php if ($numProduct > 0 ) { $i = 0; while ($row = dbFetchAssoc($result)) { extract($row); if ($pd_thumbnail) { $pd_thumbnail = WEB_ROOT . • Is there any gmap's api function to concatenate address string from AddressDetails structure?

    - by Vadim
    Hello! I’am using Google Map’s GClientGeocoder for reversing map coordinates into string address. Exactly as shown in google’s example here http://code.google.com/apis/ajax/playground/?exp=maps#geocoding_reverse But, I would like to extract LocalityName (place.AddressDetails.Country.AdministrativeArea.Locality.LocalityName) from place.address. The straight way will be join all AddressDetails elements, excluding LocalityName. However order of the structure elements in final string representation is depends from geographical location. For example: Order for Australia city: ThoroughfareName + “, ” + LocalityName + “ ” + AdministrativeAreaName + “ ” + PostalCodeNumber + “, ” + CountryName Order for Russian city: CountryName + “, ” + PostalCodeNumber + “, ” + LocalityName + “, ” +ThoroughfareName Moreover PostalCodeNumber was not supplied in AddressDetails for the last example. Please, help!

  • ZF2 Zend\Db Insert/Update Using Mysql Expression (Zend\Db\Sql\Expression?)

    - by Aleross
    Is there any way to include MySQL expressions like NOW() in the current build of ZF2 (2.0.0beta4) through Zend\Db and/or TableGateway insert()/update() statements? Here is a related post on the mailing list, though it hasn't been answered: http://zend-framework-community.634137.n4.nabble.com/Zend-Db-Expr-and-Transactions-in-ZF2-Db-td4472944.html It appears that ZF1 used something like: $data = array( 'update_time' => new \Zend\Db\Expr("NOW()") ); And after looking through Zend\Db\Sql\Expression I tried: $data = array( 'update_time' => new \Zend\Db\Sql\Expression("NOW()"), ); But get the following error: Catchable fatal error: Object of class Zend\Db\Sql\Expression could not be converted to string in /var/www/vendor/ZF2/library/Zend/Db/Adapter/Driver/Pdo/Statement.php on line 256 As recommended here: http://zend-framework-community.634137.n4.nabble.com/ZF2-beta3-Zend-Db-Sql-Insert-new-Expression-now-td4536197.html I'm currently just setting the date with PHP code, but I'd rather use the MySQL server as the single source of truth for date/times. $data = array( 'update_time' => date('Y-m-d H:i:s'), ); Thanks, I appreciate any input!

  • iPhone SDK: Get GPS coordinates from Google Maps

    - by RaYell
    In an iPhone application I'm developing I need to get GPS coordinates to perform some actions based on the values received. Users should have two possibilities of giving the location: automatically from iPhone build-in GPS by finding a specific point on a map (Google Maps) I know how to user CLLocationManager to get current position coordinates and I know how to add Google Maps using JS API. What I would like to know if how can I get coordinates for a specific point on a map that user clicks. Is that possible with UIWebView or is there any other way of getting the values I need?

  • Example of [NSDictionary getObjects:andKeys:]

    - by eagle
    I couldn't find a working example of the method [NSDictionary getObjects:andKeys:] on Google. The only link I could find, doesn't compile. I provided the errors/warnings here in case someone is searching for them. The documentation says that it returns a C array. • jQuery to add vertical scroll bar for a fixed height div container

    - by Michael Mao
    Hi all: This is uni homework so sorry about :my password protected url Please enter usersame as "uts" and password as "10479475", without the wrapper quotes. It it almost completed, please follow simple steps to see where my problem dwells: step1: click on any continent highlighted on world map; step2: click on any city marked on continent map; step3: enter quantity ranging from 1 to 6 into the upper-right table; step4 : there you go, in the table below, once row is equal or greater than 3, then the size of table starts to "overlap" on top of the footer section and continues to grow, which is not what I want. I want to achieve the effect that the table size has a limited max-height, so once actual height exceeds the threshold, then I can have a vertical scroll bar so to "stack up" my table and not to break the overall structure. It turns out that my lazy initial design now gets myself stuck in a problem... Any suggestion and hint on how to get this?

  • Repository Pattern and Entity Framework.

    - by vitorcast
    Hi people, I want to make an implementation with repository pattern with ASP.NET MVC 2 and Entity Framework but I have had some issues in the process. First of all, I have 2 entities that has a relationship between them, like Order and Product. When I generate my dbml file it gaves me a class Order with a property that map a "ProductSet" and one class Product with a property that map wich Order that Product relates itself. So I create my Repository pattern like IReporitory with the basic CRUD operations and inside my controllers I implement the ProductRepository or OrderRepository. The problem occurs when I try to create Product and have to assign my Order on it, like ProductOne.Order = _orderRepository.Find(orderId); That operation gave me some strange behavior and I can't find out what is wrong with it. Thanks for the help.

  • XCOPY to remote server

    - by Max
    In order to improve the deployment / build process of my ASP.NET app, I would like to make a .bat that builds the current solution in release mode xcopy the files to a remote server Creating a release build via command line is easy. But how can I xcopy the files to the remote server? I think I have to map the remote destination to a network drive (?). However I could not connect to the remote server, although I have enabled file sharing for the folder on the server. Maybe the firewall is blocking the request? Which port should I open? Or is there another solution? EDIT Thanks for all the answers so far, but I probably need a step by step guide on how to set up the folder sharing on the server. I shared the folder, I opened up port 445 so that I can connect to the server but still, I cant connect from my local machine to the server in order to map the network path to a system drive.

  • How to use Parcel in Android?

    - by Mike
    I'm trying to use Parcel to write and then read back a Parcelable. For some reason, when I read the object back from the file, it's coming back as null. public void testFoo() { final Foo orig = new Foo("blah blah"); // Wrote orig to a parcel and then byte array final Parcel p1 = Parcel.obtain(); p1.writeValue(orig); final byte[] bytes = p1.marshall(); // Check to make sure that the byte array seems to contain a Parcelable assertEquals(4, bytes[0]); // Parcel.VAL_PARCELABLE // Unmarshall a Foo from that byte array final Parcel p2 = Parcel.obtain(); p2.unmarshall(bytes, 0, bytes.length); final Foo result = (Foo) p2.readValue(Foo.class.getClassLoader()); assertNotNull(result); // FAIL assertEquals( orig.str, result.str ); } protected static class Foo implements Parcelable { protected static final Parcelable.Creator<Foo> CREATOR = new Parcelable.Creator<Foo>() { public Foo createFromParcel(Parcel source) { final Foo f = new Foo(); f.str = (String) source.readValue(Foo.class.getClassLoader()); return f; } public Foo[] newArray(int size) { throw new UnsupportedOperationException(); } }; public String str; public Foo() { } public Foo( String s ) { str = s; } public int describeContents() { return 0; } public void writeToParcel(Parcel dest, int ignored) { dest.writeValue(str); } } What am I missing? UPDATE: To simplify the test I've removed the reading and writing of files in my original example.

  • What is the equivalent of memset in C#?

    - by Jedidja
    I need to fill a byte[] with a single non-zero value. How can I do this in C# without looping through each byte in the array? Update: The comments seem to have split this into two questions - Is there a Framework method to fill a byte[] that might be akin to memset What is the most efficient way to do it when we are dealing with a very large array? I totally agree that using a simple loop works just fine, as Eric and others have pointed out. The point of the question was to see if I could learn something new about C# :) I think Juliet's method for a Parallel operation should be even faster than a simple loop. Benchmarks: Thanks to Mikael Svenson: http://techmikael.blogspot.com/2009/12/filling-array-with-default-value.html It turns out the simple for loop is the way to go unless you want to use unsafe code. Apologies for not being clearer in my original post. Eric and Mark are both correct in their comments; need to have more focused questions for sure. Thanks for everyone's suggestions and responses.

  • Stored Procedure call with parameters in ASP.NET MVC

    - by cc0
    I have a working controller for another stored procedure in the database, but I am trying to test another. When I request the URL; http://host.com/Map?minLat=0&maxLat=50&minLng=0&maxLng=50 I get the following error message, which is understandable but I can't seem to find out why it occurs; Procedure or function 'esp_GetPlacesWithinGeoSpan' expects parameter '@MinLat', which was not supplied. This is the code I am using. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.Mvc; using System.Web.Mvc.Ajax; using System.Data; using System.Text; using System.Data.SqlClient; namespace prototype.Controllers { public class MapController : Controller { //Initial variable definitions //Array with chars to be used with the Trim() methods char[] lastComma = { ',' }; //Minimum and maximum lat/longs for queries float _minLat; float _maxLat; float _minLng; float _maxLng; //Creates stringbuilder object to store SQL results StringBuilder json = new StringBuilder(); //Defines which SQL-server to connect to, which database, and which user SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(...connection string here...); // // HTTP-GET: /Map/ public string CallProcedure_getPlaces(float minLat, float maxLat, float minLng, float maxLng) { con.Open(); using (SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("esp_GetPlacesWithinGeoSpan", con)) { cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text; cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@MinLat", _minLat); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@MaxLat", _maxLat); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@MinLng", _minLng); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@MaxLng", _maxLng); using (SqlDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { while (reader.Read()) { json.AppendFormat("\"{0}\":{{\"c\":{1},\"f\":{2}}},", reader["PlaceID"], reader["PlaceName"], reader["SquareID"]); } } con.Close(); } return "{" + json.ToString().TrimEnd(lastComma) + "}"; } //http://host.com/Map?minLat=0&maxLat=50&minLng=0&maxLng=50 public ActionResult Index(float minLat, float maxLat, float minLng, float maxLng) { _minLat = minLat; _maxLat = maxLat; _minLng = minLng; _maxLng = maxLng; return Content(CallProcedure_getPlaces(_minLat, _maxLat, _minLng, _maxLng)); } } } Any help on resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

  • bing maps cost money?

    - by lior
    hi I am building a new web site in asp.net, and im newbie with using maps. For my web site i will need the following functionality: display a map of specific location. display route map between two or more location calculate distance between 2 locations. I found most of the functionality at the Bing Maps interactive SDK site: and it works fine. My questions are: does it cost money to use this SDK ? for the third task, i understand that i will have to use MapPoint Services. (is there another way??) does it code money to use it? I will really appreciate it if you dont send me links, cause my english is not the best one... thanks a lot

  • One-to-one Mapping issue with NHibernate/Fluent: Foreign Key not updateing

    - by Trevor
    Summary: Parent and Child class. One to one relationship between the Parent and Child. Parent has a FK property which references the primary key of the Child. Code as follows: public class NHTestParent { public virtual Guid NHTestParentId { get; set; } public virtual Guid ChildId { get { return ChildRef.NHTestChildId; } set { } } public virtual string ParentName { get; set; } protected NHTestChild _childRef; public virtual NHTestChild ChildRef { get { if (_childRef == null) _childRef = new NHTestChild(); return _childRef; } set { _childRef = value; } } } public class NHTestChild { public virtual Guid NHTestChildId { get; set; } public virtual string ChildName { get; set; } } With the following Fluent mappings: Parent Mapping Id(x => x.NHTestParentId); Map(x => x.ParentName); Map(x => x.ChildId); References(x => x.ChildRef, "ChildId").Cascade.All(); Child Mapping: Id(x => x.NHTestChildId); Map(x => x.ChildName); If I do something like (pseudo code) ... HTestParent parent = new NHTestParent(); parent.ParentName = "Parent 1"; parent.ChildRef.ChildName = "Child 1"; nhibernateSession.SaveOrUpdate(aParent); Commit; ... I get an error: "Invalid index 3 for this SqlParameterCollection with Count=3" If I change the parent 'References' line as follows (i.e. provide the name of the child property I'm pointing at): References(x => x.ChildRef, "ChildId").PropertyRef("NHTestChildId").Cascade.All(); I get the error: "Unable to resolve property: NHTestChildId" So, I tried the 'HasOne()' reference setting, as follows: HasOne<NHTestChild>(x => x.ChildRef).ForeignKey("ChildId").Cascade.All().Fetch.Join(); This results in the save working, but the load fails to find the child. If I inspect the SQL Nhibernate produces I can see that NHibernate is assuming the Primary key of the parent is the link to the child (i.e. load join condition is "parent.NHTestParentId = child.NHTestChildId). The 'ForeignKey' specified appears to be ignored. I can set any value and no error occurs - the join just always fails and no child is returned. I've tried a number of slight variations on the above. It seems like it should be a simple thing to achieve. Any ideas?

  • Binding Contents of a ListBox to Selected Item from Another Listbox w/JSF & Managed Beans

    - by nieltown
    Hi there! I currently have a JSF application that uses two listboxes. The first, say ListBox1, contains a list of manufacturers; each option comes from the database (via a method getManufacturers in a class called QueryUtil), is populated dynamically, and its value is an integer ID. This part works so far. My goal is to populate a second listbox, say ListBox2, with a list of products sold by the manufacturer. This list of products will come from the database as well (products are linked to a manufacturer via a foreign key relationship, via a method getProducts in my QueryUtil class). How do I go about doing this? Please bear in mind that I've been working with JSF for under 24 hours; I'm willing to accept the fact that I'm missing something very rudimentary. Again, I've been able to populate the list of manufacturers just fine; unfortunately, adding the Products component gives me java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: argument type mismatch faces-config.xml <managed-bean> <managed-bean-name>ProductsBean</managed-bean-name> <managed-bean-class>com.nieltown.ProductsBean</managed-bean-class> <managed-bean-scope>request</managed-bean-scope> <managed-property> <property-name>manufacturers</property-name> <property-class>java.util.ArrayList</property-class> <value>#{manufacturers}</value> </managed-property> <managed-property> <property-name>selectedManufacturer</property-name> <property-class>java.lang.Integer</property-name> <value>#{selectedManufacturer}</value> </managed-property> <managed-property> <property-name>products</property-name> <property-class>java.util.ArrayList</property-class> <value>#{products}</value> </managed-property> <managed-property> <property-name>selectedProduct</property-name> <property-class>java.lang.Integer</property-name> <value>#{selectedProducts}</value> <managed-property> </managed-bean> com.nieltown.ProductsBean public class ProductsBean { private List<SelectItem> manufacturers; private List<SelectItem> products; private Integer selectedManufacturer; private Integer selectedProduct; public ProductsBean() {} public Integer getSelectedManufacturer(){ return selectedManufacturer; } public void setSelectedManufacturer(Integer m){ selectedManufacturer = m; } public Integer getSelectedProduct(){ return selectedProduct; } public void setSelectedProduct(Integer p){ selectedProduct = p; } public List<SelectItem> getManufacturers(){ if(manufacturers == null){ SelectItem option; plans = new ArrayList<SelectItem>(); QueryUtil qu = new QueryUtil(); Map<Integer, String> manufacturersMap = qu.getManufacturers(); for(Map.Entry<Integer, String> entry : manufacturersMap.entrySet()){ option = new SelectItem(entry.getKey(),entry.getValue()); manufacturers.add(option); } } return manufacturers; } public void setManufacturers(List<SelectItem> l){ manufacturers = l; } public List<SelectItem> getProducts(){ if(products == null){ SelectItem option; products = new ArrayList<SelectItem>(); if(selectedPlan != null){ PMTQueryUtil pqu = new PMTQueryUtil(); Map<Integer, String> productsMap = pqu.getProducts(); for(Map.Entry<Integer, String> entry : productsMap.entrySet()){ option = new SelectItem(entry.getKey(),entry.getValue()); products.add(option); } } } return products; } public void setProducts(List<SelectItem> l){ products = l; } } JSP fragment <h:selectOneListbox id="manufacturerList" value="#{ProductsBean.selectedManufacturer}" size="10"> <f:selectItems value="#{ProductsBean.manufacturers}" /> </h:selectOneListbox> <h:selectOneListbox id="productList" value="#{PendingPlansBean.selectedProduct}" size="10"> <f:selectItems binding="#{ProductsBean.products}" /> </h:selectOneListbox>

  • Chaining multiple MapReduce jobs in Hadoop.

    - by Niels Basjes
    In many real-life situations where you apply MapReduce, the final algorithms end up being several MapReduce steps. I.e. Map1 , Reduce1 , Map2 , Reduce2 , etc. So you have the output from the last reduce that is needed as the input for the next map. The intermediate data is something you (in general) do not want to keep once the pipeline has been successfully completed. Also because this intermediate data is in general some data structure (like a 'map' or a 'set') you don't want to put too much effort in writing and reading these key-value pairs. What is the recommended way of doing that in Hadoop? Is there a (simple) example that shows how to handle this intermediate data in the correct way, including the cleanup afterward? Thanks.
