• Force SSL using 301 Redirect on IIS7 gets 401.1 Error

  I've got a site that is using an Execute URL in the 403.4 error page slot that calls a page named forcessl.aspx. Here's the contents of the file: strWork = Replace(strQUERY_STRING, "http", "https") strWork = Replace(strWork, "403;", "") strWork = Replace(strWork, "80", "") strSecureURL = strWork Response.Write(strSecureURL) Response.Redirect(strSecureURL) Catch ex As Exception End Try End If % This particular site gets a 401.1 error if https:// is not added to the url. I have several other sites using the same method that work fine and this one mirrors those in all ways that I can tell (folder permissions, etc). This new site is just a subdomain of the same domain that the other sites are using. The main domain has a wildcard SSL cert. What else should I check?

• HP Deskjet 720C USB printer doesn't finish

  I have an HP Deskjet 720C connected through a USB cable to an Ubuntu 12.04 laptop. When I plugged the printer for the first time into the fresh 12.04 laptop install, it auto-detected the printer correctly and choose the recommended drivers without a problem. The document print fine until they reach the end of the last page, then suddenly stop just about the end leaving the page unfinished. I have checked that the margins are the correct ones. I have the latest version of cups installed. I have also tried changing the options of usb-unidir-default and usb-no-reattach-default via lpadmin, but the printing stops even earlier. EDIT: It seems like the problem is with the last page. So if I am printing 3 pages, the first two work well but the last few lines in the last page are not printed. Any ideas?

• How to unlock files using handle.exe and process name?

  I tried Unlocker 1.9.1 but it doesn't work correctly for me on Windows7 (worked ok on Windows XP) and also I tried LockHunter 2.0.2.103 x64 and reported a bug but .... LockHunter actually unlocks the file from GUI but not from command line. So I want to use handle.exe by SysInternals to unlock one file "TestPro.log". I know the absolut path if it helps. I can list and all processes that locked the file by executing C:\Windows\system32>c:\edutester\progs\handle testpro.log java.exe pid: 2120 type: File 338: C:\Users\Public\TestPro \TestPro Automation Framework\Logs\TestPro.log java.exe pid: 1004 type: File 934: C:\Users\Public\TestPro \TestPro Automation Framework\Logs\TestPro.log What I need to know how to unlock the file using above info from command line automatically. No user intervention is possible. Windows 7 64bit Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

• Where to start? Server profiling tools

  So I have a website, users upload images, people view images etc. Simple enough. Lots of writes and reads everywhere. Its built in MySQL and PHP on Apache. We have one dedicated server. Right now we are getting hammered with unexpected press and users and our CPU cycle is out of control, slowing down the entire site. Off hand I am guessing its either the saving of the image to the disk, or the Mysql queries. What tools can I use to educate myself on what is happening and pinpoint the problem? How can I find out what is happening in detail in this time of crisis?

• ODI - Creating a Repository in a 12c Pluggable Database

  To install ODI 11g into an Oracle 12c pluggable database, one way is to connect using a TNS string to the pluggable database service that is executing. For example when I installed my master repository, I used a JDBC URL such as; jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=mydbserver)(PORT=1522)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=PDBORA12.US.ORACLE.COM)))   I used the above approach rather than the host:port:sid which is a common mechanism many users use to quickly get up and going. Below you can see the repository creation wizard in action, I used the 11g release and simply installed the master and work repository into my pluggable database. Be wise with your repository IDs, I simply used the default, but you should be aware that these are key in larger deployments. The database in 12c has much more tighter control on users and resources, so just getting the user creating with sufficient resource on tablespaces etc in 12c was a little more work. Once you have the repositories up and running, then the fun starts using the 12c features. More to come.

• SQL SERVER – Simple Installation of Master Data Services (MDS) and Sample Packages – Very Easy

  I twitted recently about: ‘Installing #sql Server 2008 R2 – Master Data Services. Painless.‘ After doing so, I got quite a few emails from other users as to why I thought it was painless. The reason was very simple- I was able to install it rather quickly on my laptop without any issues. There were a few requests along with these emails sent to me, which regards to how to install MDS, as well sample databases. Please note that I am the admin of my machine and I installed this MDS as the admin as well. Talk to your network administrator to figure out the best suitable settings for better security of login users. Additionally, since MDS is only supported on a 64-bit machine, I had rebuilt my computer a week before with a 64-bit OS and 64-bit SQL Server to go with it. Here is a quick picture tour of the installation. First of all, go to your SQL Server 2008. Install self-extracted folder and find the .msi file for C:\1033_enu_lp\x64\setup\masterdataservices.msi. Once you clicked on the file, follow the image tour below. You can ask me any questions in case you are still confused with any of the steps of the installation. While searching the internet for a similar installation process, I have landed on the official blog of MDS team where they have many interesting posts about it. If any concept written on my posts are contradictory to the information on the official blog, I suggest that you should follow the advice of official blog. • New WebLogic Server 12.1.2 Installation and Patching Technology By Monica Riccelli

  WebLogic Server 12.1.2 has many new features, but the first new feature you are likely to notice is the change in installer technology. WebLogic Server and Coherence 12.1.2 are installed using Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) installer technology. We have also changed WebLogic Server patching technology from SmartUpdate to OPatch, the patching tool used to patch OUI installations. Note that installation and patching technology used for prior versions of WebLogic Server has not changed. The primary motivation for this change is to provide consistency across the Oracle stack. Prior to WebLogic Server 12.1.2, Fusion Middleware customers were required to use different technologies to install and patch, for example, Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) with WebLogic Server. Now users can perform installation and patching across products more efficiently by using the same technologies, and by using new installation packages that simplify installation of Fusion Middleware products with WebLogic Server. Check the YouTube video that describes how to install  WebLogic Server 12.1.2 using the  OUI installer. It's Time to go with the Ubuntu/Linux way for a better and faster tomorrow. Unfortunately in my country most Users/Business use Windows based Systems. As a Computer technician i want to learn and use both Systems and possibly introduce New users to more affordable Linux Based Systems. For now I want to create dual-boot or even triple boot layouts on my laptop machine Here's the layout in use now: * (C:) Windows 7 system partition NTFS - 284,89GB (Primary,Boot,Pagefile,Dump) * HP_TOOLS system partition FAT32 - 99MB (Primary) * (D:) RECOVERY partition NTFS - 12,90GB (Primary) * SYSTEM partition NTFS 199MB (Primary) Here's the layout I want to make. * (C:) Windows 7 system partition NTFS - 60GB (Primary) (sda1) * (D:) Windows data partition (user files) NTFS - 60GB(Extended or Primary)(sda2);wanna share with Linux * Linux root Ext4 - 10GB (Primary)(sda3) * Linux swap swap- RAM size, 3GB (sda4) * Linux home Ext4- 164,9GB (Extended)(sda5) Question 1: Is the layout that i want to make correct as the Primary and Extended Partition concerns ? • Printer ports missing from network printers, Windows 7 laptops

  Have an odd issue where users take their laptops home and back into the office with network printers that get mapped via a login script but fail to print. After tracking down a user with this problem I found that the print driver had no ports available to it. We've mapped network printers for this site all the time but only since the introduction of the Konica Minolta C220 Bizhub has this issue cropped up. The issue occurs with Windows 7 users and it takes them 2 /3 reboots to have the ports recreated. Should I be looking at the server for this or at the Windows 7 machines?

• ubuntu automount: only mounting drives as root?

  I'm sharing the /mount dir with smb so users on my network can access use drives added to my linux box. Users are able to read files but not write, modify or delete files or directories. I'm using ubuntu 10.04 server edition with halevt installed for usb auto mounting. Afaik halevt is automounting the drives to /media/ but the drives are showing up as: drwxrwxr-x 1 root root 20480 2010-12-29 20:40 disk drwxrwxr-x 1 root root 24576 2010-12-21 17:20 Sparta mount gives me: /dev/sda1 on /boot type ext2 (rw) /dev/sdb1 on /media/disk type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,sync,allow_other,blksize=4096,default_permissions) /dev/sdc1 on /media/Sparta type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,sync,allow_other,blksize=4096,default_permissions) When I umount the drives, the folders /media/disk and /media/Sparta are both removed. I tried changing the permissions with chown to nobody:nogroup but it doesn't work (which I assume is because they are ntfs drives).

• Windows / Apache / PHP CPU at 100% under small load

  I have a Windows box loaded with Apache 2.2 and PHP 5.2. It runs great if only a few users are on it at a time, but under load testing (50 users for test #1), the CPU climbs up to 100%. Nearly all of this CPU usage comes from httpd.exe. I currently have PHP set up via php5_module, but one of the first things I plan to try next is to use FastCGI instead. Is FastCGI better at handling multiple connections? Any other ideas on what might be causing Apache to run so high?

• Is Tax Localization a good use for Workflow Foundation?

  Scenario: We have both Winforms and MVC code that is being used to work on a nation wide multi-user platform that does lots of logistics for lots of users. Tax rules change per state and even per city or county. These tax rules make a huge difference for our industry. The other issue is that rules can change based on legislation. The system will have to handle cases where before a date it works one way and then different after that date. This changeover will need to be entered into the system and tested before that date comes. Proposed Solution: Use Workflow Foundation to create a time based system where our users can change and add rules that change the way taxes are calculated. Question: I have not used Workflow Foundation and searching has returned books to look at but not a lot of examples of people using this technology successfully. Is my scenario a good use of Workflow Foundation?(I think so.) If you have any experience with Workflow Foundation, any tips on making this work well?

• File Sharing: User-created folders are read-only to others on Mac 10.6 Server

  Hi there We recently got a new Mac Mini Server with 10.6 Server on it. It has two 500GB volumes, one of which [Macintosh HD2 the extra one other than the boot disk] we are using to share our work files. I have added a user account for each user in the Users pane on Server Preferences, and all our staff (users added to the system) are added to a new group, called toolboxstaff. Now, when a user creates a new folder on this volume, folders are created with read-only access for everyone else besides the owner. How do I set it that when a user creates a folder, it creates it with RW access for the toolboxstaff group? Thanks in advance.

• Create Webmin user for an EC2 Instance

  I've setup an Amazon EC2 Instance, using the Ubuntu 12.04 AMI (ubuntu/images/ebs/ubuntu-precise-12.04-amd64-server-20120424 (ami-a29943cb)), and I'd like to get Webmin working (so I can setup a DNS). After following the installation instructions on Webmin's site, the installer says I can login with any username/pass of a user who has superuser access. The problem is that the EC2 instance only has 1 user "ubuntu", which can only login using SSH keys -- not a password! I've tried creating users manually and I can't login as those users (even via SSH), so I think it might be a permission thing provided by the AMI. Does anyone know the best way around setting up a login to my webmin?

  Hello, I know there is landscape from canonical, but it has some $$ costs. Als there is webmin, and it can be used as a cluster management tool. Also there is m23, probably the most usable and interesting peace of manager software. But, what would you suggest to install and use on following configuration: 1) 100 desktop users, against an AD with quest authentication services installed. (ubunt8.04,9.04,9.10,10.04) 2) 50 servers (debian sid, lenny , ubuntu 8.04 and 10.04) We work on different software, so each group of persons need different configurations, each server has different pourposses, nothing is clusterized. And we have a good enough backup software. • Whew.... what a week!

  Last week was a busy week for the UPK and Tutor teams at Oracle. It started with the the Collaborate Conference in Las Vegas and ended with our first UPK and Tutor Customer Advisory Board (CAB) meeting at Oracle HQ. The Collaborate Conference is a yearly event sponsored by three of the largest Oracle User Groups. • Oracle Applications User Group (OAUG) • Independent Oracle User Group (IOUG) • Quest - International User Group The User Groups are completely user run organizations with Oracle participation. If you've never attended a conference, time to start planning for the 2011 event in Orlando! If that's out of your reach, there are many regional and industry user groups that meet on a regular basis. They offer a great way to get involved, network with other users, and increase your knowledge around the Oracle applications. For a list of groups near you, check out the Oracle User Group Center. I'll add that the biggest meeting of Oracle users is at the Oracle Open World Conference in San Francisco in September, where we will have many UPK & Tutor focused development and customer sessions. More information on Oracle Open World will be forthcoming over the next few months. We hope to see many of you there! The CAB was a first for the UPK and Tutor team. Although we speak with customers regularly, this gave us an opportunity to meet in a more formal setting to discuss industry trends, business issues, and the direction of the products. Members serve a 2 year term and are required to attend 2 meetings per year, one in person, one via phone. We have some tweaking to do to our meeting format (most members wanted it to be longer!), but the overwhelming consensus was that it was a great success. There were many experiences and ideas shared and the wheels of the UPK and Tutor Development teams have been turning ever since. I'm sure you will see some of these discussions result in new product features over time. What a great week!

• Downloading Python 2.5.4 (from official website) in order to install it

  I was quite hesitant about whether I should post this question here on "StackOverflow" or on "SuperUser", but finally decided to post it here as Python is more a programming language rather than a piece of software. I've been recently using Python 2.5.4 that is installed on my computer, but at the moment I am not at home (and won't be for about two weeks from now), so I need to install the same version of Python on another computer. This computer has Windows XP installed – just like the one that I have at home. The reason why I need Python 2.5.4 is because I am using “Google App Engine”, and I was told that it only supports Python 2.5 However, when I went to the official Python page for the download, I discovered that certain things have changed, and I don’t quite remember where exactly from that site I had downloaded Python 2.5.4 on my computer at home. I found this page: http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.5.4/ Here is how it looks: (If you can’t see it here, please check it out at this address: http://brad.cwahi.net/some_pictures/python_page.jpg ) A few things here are not clear to me. It says: For x86 processors: python-2.5.4.msi For Win64-Itanium users: python-2.5.4.ia64.msi For Win64-AMD64 users: python-2.5.4.amd64.msi First of all, I don’t know what processor I am using – whether mine is “x86” or not; and also, I don’t know whether I am an “Win64-Itanium” or an “Win64-AMD64” user. Are Itanium and AMD64 also processors? Later it says: Windows XP and later already have MSI; many older machines will already have MSI installed. I guess, it is my case, but then I am totally puzzled as to which link I should click as it seems now that I don’t need those three previous links (as MSI is already installed on Windows XP), but there is no fourth link provided for those who use “Windows XP” or older machines. Of course, there are these words after that: Windows users may also be interested in Mark Hammond's win32all package, available from Sourceforge. but it seems to me that it is something additional rather than the main file.   Hi, I'm running a small wireless network (6 to 10 users) on a Lynksys WRT54G with tomato firmware sharing an internet connection. I don't want the users to download files with bittorrent (mainly used) and other p2p apps. I've also found some solutions about lowering p2p traffic priority using QoS. I really need to BAN p2p traffic. Does anyone know how to setup some rules to deny that kind of traffic ? I've tried to setup an Access Restriction Rule: But it's not working at all ...

• Assembly load and execute issue

  I'm trying to develop Assembly code allowing me to load and execute(by input of the user) 2 other Assembly .EXE programs. I'm having two problems: -I don't seem to be able to assign the pathname to a valid register(Or maybe incorrect syntax) -I need to be able to execute the other program after the first one (could be either) started its execution.
