  Lately, I've been working a lot in PHP and specifically within the WordPress framework. I'm noticing a lot of code in the form of: if ( 1 == $options['postlink'] ) Where I would have expected to see: if ( $options['postlink'] == 1 ) Is this a convention found in certain languages / frameworks? Is there any reason the former approach is preferable to the latter (from a processing perspective, or a parsing perspective or even a human perspective?) Or is it merely a matter of taste? I have always thought it better when performing a test, that the variable item being tested against some constant is on the left. It seems to map better to the way we would ask the question in natural language: "if the cake is chocolate" rather than "if chocolate is the cake".

• Black screen after installing Ubuntu 11.10

  I downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 one week ago and burned it to a CD. I installed it on my system which has a 1.5 TB hard. It installed successfully and I clicked on the restart button. The computer restarted and I chose the first option, which was to load Ubuntu. A black screen would appear with a cursor in top left hand side and I think the system was hung. I repeated this process by erasing the last Ubuntu install but I faced a similar problem. Can anybody help me?

  I'm developing a game using Box2D (javascript implementation - Box2DWeb), and I would like to know how I can pan the debug draw. I know the usual answer is - don't use debug draw, it's just for debugging. I'm not, however not all my objects are on the same screen, and i'd like to see where they are in the physics representation. How can I pan the debug drawing? As you can see the debug draw stuff, is show on the top left, but it only shows a small part of the world. • Certificate enrollment request chain not trusted

  I am working on a MSFT lab for Direct Access, and need to create a Web certificate. The instructions ask be to do the following: On EDGE1, click Start, type mmc, and then press ENTER. Click Yes at the User Account Control prompt. Click File, and then click Add/Remove Snap-ins. Click Certificates, click Add, click Computer account, click Next, select Local computer, click Finish, and then click OK. In the console tree of the Certificates snap-in, open Certificates (Local Computer)\Personal\Certificates. Right-click Certificates, point to All Tasks, and then click Request New Certificate. Click Next twice. On the Request Certificates page, click Web Server, and then click More information is required to enroll for this certificate. On the Subject tab of the Certificate Properties dialog box, in Subject name, for Type, select Common Name. In Value, type edge1.contoso.com, and then click Add. Click OK, click Enroll, and then click Finish. In the details pane of the Certificates snap-in, verify that a new certificate with the name edge1.contoso.com was enrolled with Intended Purposes of Server Authentication. Right-click the certificate, and then click Properties. In Friendly Name, type IP-HTTPS Certificate, and then click OK. Close the console window. If you are prompted to save settings, click No. In production, our company has overridden the Web Server template and it doesn't seem to be issuing certificates with the full CA chain. When I look at the issued certificate properties then both tiers of the 2 tier CA hierarchy are missing. How can I fix this? I'm not sure where to look outside the GUI.

• How can the original icons and fonts be restored in ubuntu 12.10?

  Recently i installed cairo-dock and changed the original ubuntu theme. then i uninstalled it. but the icons on the left side didn't restored into its original look. Somewhere I found a command sudo apt-get autoremove --purge light-themes sudo apt-get install light-themes After running this command the theme didn't changed but it seems that the font of the original ubuntu changed a little. I want the theme of ubuntu as it was when i newly installed it. Moreover, the alt+tab and some other key combination not working normally. please help.

  I have a Breakout game in which, at some point, I detect the collision between the ball and the paddle with something like this: // Ball class rectangle.Intersects(paddle.Rectangle); Is there any way I can get the exact coordinates of the collision, or any details about it, with the current XNA API? I thought of doing some basic calculations, such as comparing the exact coordinates of each object on the moment of the collision. It would look something like this: // Ball class if((rectangle.X - paddle.Rectangle.X) < (paddle.Rectangle.Width / 2)) // Collision happened on the left side else // Collision happened on the right side But I'm not sure this is the correct way to do it. • VNC Address Book - Window Invisible? Working as intended?

  I have VNC Server and VNC Viewer on the same PC with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Is VNC Address Book supposed to have a main application window? I can't tell if this is bugged or working as intended. When I start VNC Address book, it creates an item in the task list and also an icon in the notification area. If I click the task list item once, nothing happens. If I click again, it disappears from the task list but remains in the notification area**. If I right-click the icon on the notification area, there is an option 'open address book', which if chosen, creates the item in the task list again, with the exact same behavior. If I left or right click on the address book icon, I have ways to connect to servers in the address book. However I have no way to add/remove/edit servers in the address book. **Note that this behavior is identical to that of an application with a main window where there is an option to 'minimize to system tray / notification area'. Only here, no main window is visible, ever. If fixing this problem is beyond the scope of this site, that's fine, but at this point I have no real way to tell if the program is malfunctioning on my pc or if it is far more minimalist than I expected. There appears to be no forum on realvnc.com where I can ask about this, perhaps this is to prevent me from getting any help unless I pay to register?

• How should a small company administer their web server?

  We currently have our website hosted by a small company that is actually a reseller for Rackspace. They act as our server administrators. They configured the servers, handle the backups, if there is a problem, we call them and they fix it. We are growing and want to move away from our shared server to either a cloud or dedicated server. I am thinking cloud myself but I am open to either. The current company doesn't seem to want to offer us anything more than a shared hosting plan. I looked into cloud solutions at vps.net, with them I would have to be the server administrator myself. I am the website programmer but administering the server is outside my comfort zone. vps.net does have a $99/month plan for Pro-Active Managed Support but I am not sure if this is the equivalent on a server admin that is there when you need them. We could hire someone in house, but I think that would be overkill for our needs. I am not exactly sure what we need, I do know we need as close to 100% uptime as we possible can. and we need the ability to add/remove/change the server configuration/software/etc. when needed (though changes shouldn't be very often once everything is setup right). Can someone point me in the right direction? What do other companies do?

I'd like to know if these particular features can slow things down such that they shouldn't be left on round-the-clock. • How do I get the Grub menu back after installing Windows on a separate disk?

  Tried sudo grub-install on sda1 but it complained about being a BAD IDEA. I had to install windows for a work related issue so I used a separate disk (I had used it for ubuntu on this computer, but bought a bigger disk so installed ubuntu on that and left the old one in in case I needed an old file). Windows installed fine but overwrote Grub. So if I choose the Ubuntu disk to boot first in BIOS I get a blank screen. I googled and followed this advice: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows However, when I get down to this section: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/0d104aff-ec8c-44c8-b811-92b993823444 /dev/sda1 I get this: Attempting to install GRUB to a partition instead of the MBR. This is a BAD idea… --recheck does nothing. Any ideas?

• Doubts regarding the behaviour of 'autoremove' command and '--auto-remove' flag

  After reading several man pages and forums, I thought that running 'apt-get autoremove' without any following argument removes all unused dependencies left on the system, while running 'apt-get autoremove xxx' removes xxx together with its unused dependencies. However I found this to be not true. Running 'apt-get autoremove xxx' not only removes xxx together with its unused dependencies, it also removes all other unused dependencies. So I tried to run 'apt-get remove --auto-remove xxx', thinking that this would remove only xxx and its unused dependencies. To my surprise, this also removed xxx, its unused dependencies and all other unused dependencies. Is this the intended behaviour of the commands or a bug? Is there any quick way to remove xxx and its unused dependencies without removing other unused dependencies?

• Ubuntu 12.10 - VirtualBox not sharing internet with guest system

  I went from ArchLinux to Ubuntu on my dev box. I use VirtualBox to test web sites on Windows and IE. I have my Windows 7 VirtualBox image running on Ubuntu's VirtualBox. Back with ArchLinux, internet worked "out of the box" on the Windows boxes. I left the default options on the box's Network Options (NAT). The Windows machine shows as "connected to ethernet" but reports: The dns server isn't responding So I can't access Internet from there. I tried searching for Ubuntu's official docs but they seem pretty outdated. I tried using my old boxes from Arch (which boot normally but have no internet) and creating a new box from Ubuntu itself, but still get the same results. Update: I'm using VirtualBox 4.1.18 from Ubuntu's repository (apt-get install virtualbox).

Also, it will be very useful if I am able to "cut" only part of the new screenshot and save it as a new image.   As the title implies, I want a Button class with an OnClick event handler. It should fire off connected events when it is clicked. Here's the example I have: As you can see in top and bottom left images regardless of the side the of the green car which red car is penetrating the MTV for the red car still remains as a negative number also here is the same example when the front of the red car is facing the opposite direction the number will always be positive. When the red car is past the half way through the green car it should switch polarity. I thought I'd compensated for this in my code, but apparently not either that or it's a bug I can find. • No password is complex enough

  I have one user in my AD domain who seems to not be able to self-select a password. I may have another one, but they're on a different enough password-expiration schedule that I can't remember who it is right now. I can set a password via ADU&C just fine, but when he tries it via C-A-D he gets the "doesn't meet complexity" message. Figuring he was just doing something like 'pAssword32', I did some troubleshooting of my own and sure enough it doesn't want to take a password that way. He's one of our users that habitually uses a local account and then maps drives using his AD credentials so he doesn't get the your password will expire in 4 days, maybe you should change it prompts, so he's a frequent "my password expired, can you fix it" flyer. I don't want to keep having him set it via ADU&C over my shoulder every N days. I'm just fine setting temp passwords of 48 characters of keyboard-slamming and letting him change it something memorable. My environment is at the Windows 2008 R2 functional level, and I am using fine-grained password policies. In fact, I have two such policies: For normal users (minimum length, remembered passwords) For special utility accounts The password complexities I've tried match both policies for length and char-set selection. The permissions on the User object themselves look normal, SELF does indeed have the "Change Password" right. Is there some other place I should be looking for things that can affect this?

Yukon Optima 88E8059 [PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller with AVB] (rev 11) After system being suspended the sky2 driver loads but does not enable the NIC. I have noticed that it happens when PC is left suspended for longer period of time (few houres) Trying to reproduce it I have tried to load the sky2 driver with 'modprobe sky2'. Unfortunately typing 'ifconfig -a' for the onboard ethernet adapter does not list the driver once the sky2 driver is loaded. I have searched internet and I found some information about a bug in kernel. Hovewer it was reported in 2010 so I hope it has been fixed. • CMD/ADB - Autorun script to search, copy, and paste a file from android system to flash drive

  I've looked around and can't find anything that answers my question. This is my first question, so any tips or thoughts are welcome, as well as an answer :p As explained in title, i want to create a script that launches, finds a file on android phone, copies it, and pastes it to a flash drive. As of right now, it's a mix of multiple tutorials, trial and error, and I'm at a point of giving up. As of right now, I have a flash drive, loaded with three scripts. Then run this scrip. Yes i'm trying to pull the database to copy all my email contacts. I use launch.bat, which then makes file.bat invisible due to the invisible.vbs script. What would i need to do now to have the file searched for and copied to the flashdrive? Thanks in advance, i'll be glad to answer any questions if theres any :p just remember that i'm not exactly a tech expert haha EDIT* Cleared junk of prior edits. Quote from Wikipedia Starting from scratch I'm starting from scratch with a project that I recently finished because I found the code to be too tightly coupled and hard to refactor, even when using MVC. I will be using MVC on my new project aswell but want to try and avoid the pitfalls this time, hopefully with your help. Project summary My issue is that I really wish to keep the Controller as clean as possible, but it seems like I can't do this. The basic idea of the program is that the user picks wordlists which is sent to the game engine. It will pick random words from the lists until there are none left. Problem at hand My main problem is that the game will have 'modes', and need to check the input in different ways through a method called checkWord(), but exactly where to put this and how to abstract it properly is a challenge to me. I'm new to design patterns, so not sure whether there exist any might fit my problem. If object A needs info from object B, how is it supposed to get this without losing too much cohesion? As suggested in the comments, models should hold all business logic. However, as objects should be independent, where to glue them together? Should the model contain some sort of "index" or "client" area which connects the dots? Edit: So basically what I should do for a start is to make a new model which I can more easily call with oneliners such as $model->doAction(); // Lots of code in here which uses classes! How about the method for checking words? Should it be it's own object? I'm not sure where I should put it as it's pretty much part of the 'game'. But on another hand, I could just leave out the 'abstraction and OOPness' and make it a method of the 'client model' which will be encapsulated from the controller anyway. Very unsure about this.

• Is it possible to transfer Google Authorship?

  Is it possible to transfer Google Authorship from one account to another? Scenario: I have user A who is a legitimate Google Author in my WordPress site. When I search the 'keyword' in Google, his name and photo will show up in the search result. One day A left the company, so we don't want to use his name again as an author, and transfer it to another person which is B. Technically speaking, I can just alter the display name and Google+ Profile URL of A to B. And then I probably can notify Google of the changes happening. But what will happen then? Will Google get confused and think that I'm doing scam? Is doing this action even correct in the first place?

• Solving programming problems or contributing code?

  What are the best skills to develop for a college graduate?? Should one spend hours/days trying to solve problems on codechef or topcoder or contribute code to open source organizations? My personal experience says solving problems teaches you how to make optimal code and learn new programming techniques (which someone else has researched and made available) to solve problems, whereas contributing to open source teaches you how to organize code (so others can work on it), use coding conventions and make "real" use of what you have learnt so far, blah blah!! Also another thing to note is that many companies are hiring today based on one's problem solving skills (Is this something I should worry about?) P.S.
