• How do i generate random data with RSA?

  After loading my RSACryptoServiceProvider rsa object i would like to create a key for my AES object. Since i dont need to store the AES key (i only need it to decrypt on my prv side) i figure i dont need to store it and i can generate it with my public key. I thought doing rsa.Encrypt(byte[] with 4 hardcoded bytes); would generate the data i need. It turns out everytime i call this function even with the same data i get different results. So theres no way for me to recreate the AES key if its different everytime. How can i generate data with RSA in a way that i can recreate anytime i need?

  i just installed MAMP on this iMac and the rubygems but when i run: sudo gem install mysql — –with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config gives me Building native extensions. This could take a while... ERROR: Error installing mysql: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby extconf.rb mkmf.rb can't find header files for ruby at /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/ruby.h Gem files will remain installed in /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/mysql-2.8.1 for inspection. • Database that accesses a website.?

  Hi Guys What application should I use that is able to automatically access a website to gather information? Basically I have a database that completes calculations for me; however I have to manually gather the parameters from a website and input these into my database. What I would like is have an application that will take my input say the name of a product, access the website, add this name into a search box on a website, complete the search and then extract the desired information from the web page returning the results to my application to complete the calculation thus presenting me with the result. This is a little out of my depth but I’m willing to learn no matter how complicated the software. Cheers for your help.

Edit: All but asked question, so to be technical: How can I search the index and have it not return files from the vti folders? Switching to use an ixsso query object is possible, but i'd rather avoid it for this particular instance.

  If I have a 32 bit two's complement number and I want to know what is the easiest way to know of two numbers are equal... what would be the fastest bitwise operator to know this? I know xor'ing both numbers and check if the results are zero works well... any other one's? how about if a number is greater than 0?? I can check the 31'st bit to see if it's greater or equal to 0..but how about bgtz?

• After upgrading to 2.6.35-24 kernel, why does adb no longer list devices?

  When I first installed Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit, I was able to see a physical Android device (connected via USB) in the Android Device Chooser (launched from Eclipse). But, after upgrading my kernel from 2.6.35-22-generic to 2.6.35-24-generic, no devices are listed any more, and I am unable to see any results when running adb devices like so: $ ./adb devices List of devices attached $ I have tried booting in the previous kernel version, but I get some udev error, so I was hoping I could get it working with the newer kernel version. I figured SO was the best place for this question, as it seems more developer related.

  sorry for my noob question, I'm currently writing a perl web application with sqlite database behind it. I would like to be able to show in my app query results which might get thousands of rows - these should be split in pages - routing should be like /webapp/N - where N is the page number. what is the correct way to query the sqlite db using DBI, in order to fetch only the relavent rows. for instance, if I show 25 rows per page so I want to query the db for 1-25 rows in the first page, 26-50 in the second page etc.... What I would like to do with this data is create a new table with Dates and prior 7-day revenue numbers. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. • Using Google to find programming answers (does locale matter)?

  I have overseas developers working for me, and sometimes I am surprised they can't find the same resources online that I do. They are in a South America country... and Google defaults to their language/locale. What do you think about this, when using it to solve computer programs? There is very little software development done in their country (as compared to the US). Is Google skewing their results for articles in their language or posted on sites that are local to them? Should I insist that they bypass their local Google search and have them use the US version?

  is it possible to load only the latest associated record of an associated table? an example: class author attr_accessible :first_name, :last_name, :birthday has_many :books end class book attr_accessible :pages, :date of publication, :title belongs_to :author end Is there a way to generate a scope to load only the newest released book the author wrote? Or the book with the most pages? I know, that I could include or join all books. But I don't know if its possible to load only a specific book for each author. I'm trying to wrap my head around why init_bubblesort no longer as access to it's instance's variables.

  Python neophyte here. I was wondering if someone could help with the KeyError I am getting when using a dictionary for string interpolation in str.format. dictionary = {'key1': 'val1', '1': 'val2'} string1 = 'Interpolating {0[key1]}'.format(dictionary) print string1 The above works fine and yields: Interpolating val1 However doing the following: dictionary = {'key1': 'val1', '1': 'val2'} string2 = 'Interpolating {0[1]}'.format(dictionary) print string2 results in: Traceback (most recent call last): File "test.py", line 3, in <module> string2 = 'Interpolating {0[1]}'.format(dictionary) KeyError: 1L So the problem seems to be in the interpretation of the numeric key as a list index, IMHO. Is there any way to work around this? (i.e. convey that this is instead a dictionary key) TIA and apologies if this question has been asked before(couldn't find anything relevant with my search-fu).

  Do I have to create an index on columns referenced in Joins? E.g. SELECT * FROM left_table INNER JOIN right_table ON left_table.foo = right_table.bar WHERE ... Should I create indexes on left_table(foo), right_table(bar), or both? I noticed different results when I used EXPLAIN (Postgresql) with and without indexes and switching around the order of the comparison (right_table.bar = left_table.foo) I know for sure that indexes are used for the left of the WHERE clause but I am wondering whether I need indexes for columns listed in ON clauses.

• About the leading newline in Visual Studio solution files.

  Sometimes, for unknown reasons, VS 2008 creates solution files led by a newline. Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 10.00 # Visual Studio 2008 [...] This happened on various machines, and I have no idea why this is. A Google search did not yield any useful results. Now, why do I worry about this? Because I can't open these solutions in Windows Explorer. I have to open VS, select File - Open - Solution and it works fine. But to open solutions from within Explorer, I have to edit the sln file and remove the leading newline. Edit: After Leom's suggestion I tested a few times and found that the issue is solely dependent on the leading newline.

• How do you combine a Move and Rotate effect in Flex 3?

  I realize you can make one of each effect, set the same target, and hit .play();, but this produces weird results (acknowledged by Adobe, fixed in Flex 4). I'm trying to have an object move from the top of the screen to the bottom while it rotates around it's own center. When called independently, both of these effects work perfectly. When called together, the object always rotates around the top left corner. I even tried putting them both inside a <Parallel> tag with no success. Has anyone come up with a workaround?

• Mongo: Finding from multiple queries

  New to Mongo here. I'm using the PHP lib and trying to work out how I can find in a collection from multiple queries. I could do this by repeating the query with a different query, but I wondered if it can be done in one. I.e. $idsToLookFor = array(2124,4241,5553); $query = $db->thisCollection->find(array('id' => $idsToLookFor)); That's what I'd like to do. However it doesn't work. What I'm trying to do is find a set of results for all the id's at one time. Possible or just do a findOne on each with a foreach/for?

• MySql Union not getting executed in a view

  Hi, I am trying to create a view for a UNION of 2 select statements that I have created. The UNION is working fine when executed individually But the problem is only the 1st part of the UNION is getting executed when I am executing it as a view. The query I am using is as below SELECT DISTINCT products.pid AS id, products.pname AS name, products.p_desc AS description, products.p_loc AS location, products.p_uid AS userid, products.isaproduct AS whatisit FROM products UNION SELECT DISTINCT services.s_id AS id, services.s_name AS name, services.s_desc AS description, services.s_uid AS userid, services.s_location AS location, services.isaservice AS whatisit FROM services WHERE services.s_name The above works fine when i execute it separately. But when I use it as a view, it does not give me the results of the services part. Could someone please help me with this?

  I am wonder why after creating a very simple DataTable and then setting it to null why Garbage Collection does not clear out all the memory used by that DataTable. Here is an example. The variable Before should be equal to Removed but it is not. { long Before = 0, After = 0, Removed = 0, Collected = 0; Before = GC.GetTotalMemory(true); DataTable dt = GetSomeDataTableFromSql(); After = GC.GetTotalMemory(true); dt = null; Removed = GC.GetTotalMemory(true); GC.Collect(); Collected = GC.GetTotalMemory(true); } Gives the following results.   Hi! I have a "super entity" SuperEntity and three entities ChildEntity1, ..., ChildEntity3 which extends the super class. It's easy to search for all entities in the database, i.e. we could use session.createCriteria(SuperEntity.class); It's no problem to search for one specific entity type, too, just replace the SuperEntity with any of the children to look for entities of that type. But I have a problem when allowing 'multiple choice' for the types. I.e., it could be neccessary to search all entities of type 1 and 2, but not of type 3. A first idea was to create two independent queries and join the results in a final list - but that would destroy the paging which uses offset and limit functionality of the database... Is there a possibility in Criteria to join two different queries in one single result list? Kind regards, RoCMe

  What is the idea behind Grasp's Controller pattern? My current interpretation is that sometimes you want to achieve something that needs to use a couple of classes but none of those classes could or has access to the information needed to do it, so you create a new class that does the job, having references to all the needed classes(this is, could be the information expert). Is this a correct view of what Grasp's Controller is about? Generally when googling or SO'ing controller, I just get results about MVC's (and whatnot) which are topics that I don't understand about, so I'd like answers that don't assume I know ASP.NET's MVC or something :( Thanks

  I received a SSL cert to use for a Tomcat 6.0 server, ready to use. I configured Tomcat to use it with the following in server.xml: <Connector port="8443" maxThreads="200" scheme="https" secure="true" SSLEnabled="true" keystoreFile="C:\Tomcat 6.0\ssl\cert" keystorePass="*****" clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS"/> I started Tomcat using the command prompt so I could see any error message as they happened. There were none. The results for accessing different URLS: http://localhost - normal page loads fine https://localhost - browser claims page cannot be found https://localhost:8443 - page cannot be found http://localhost:8443 - offers a certificate, after accepted redirects to https://localhost (I suspect the https:// urls initially offer the certificate which is automatically accepted by the browser, as it was issued by Verisign) How to fix? Edit: I've also tried port="443". Same result.

  I'm just looking in to the new .NET 4.0 features. With that, I'm attempting a simple calculation using Parallel.For and a normal for(x;x;x) loop. However, I'm getting different results about 50% of the time. long sum = 0; Parallel.For(1, 10000, y => { sum += y; } ); Console.WriteLine(sum.ToString()); sum = 0; for (int y = 1; y < 10000; y++) { sum += y; } Console.WriteLine(sum.ToString()); My guess is that the threads are trying to update "sum" at the same time. Is there an obvious way around it?

  I have these two tables: SQL> SELECT * FROM TAB_A; MYDATE P4 D1 D2 P5 P6 --------- ---------- ---------- ----------- ----------- ----------- 30-OCT-12 949,324 4,437,654 10,203,116 25,303,632 13,900,078 SQL> SELECT * FROM TAB_B; MYDATE P4 D1 D2 P5 P6 --------- ---------- ---------- ----------- ----------- ----------- 30-OCT-12 937,796 4,388,477 10,091,811 25,028,402 13,755,882 I need to subtract their respective columns and store the results into a third table like so: SQL> INSERT INTO TAB_C (MYDATE, P4) SELECT SYSDATE,A.P4-B.P4 FROM TAB_A A,TAB_B B WHERE A.MYDATE=B.MYDATE; SQL> SELECT * FROM TAB_C; MYDATE P4 D1 D2 P5 P6 --------- ---------- ---------- ----------- ----------- ----------- 30-OCT-12 926,268 The result is wrong. Basic math: 949324-937796=11528. Numeric values are stored as number datatypes. What am I missing here?
