• MVC2 JSON action, if I want to be RESTful should I allow GET, POST, or Both?

  The project I'm currently working has a whole bunch of JSON actions in order to populate cascading dropdowns via ajax calls. Since they're technically Select queries and we're trying to be RESTful, we've been marking these actions with the HttpGet attributes. However by default, JsonResultdoes not allow to return results via a GET. So we've had to explicitly call Json(data, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet). What I'm wondering is, is this bad practice? Should we only be allowing Post requests to our Json actions? If it makes a difference, this is an enterprise application, that requires a log in to a particular environment before it can be accessed.

  The MSDN gives this code example in the article on the Func Generic Delegate: Func<String, int, bool> predicate = ( str, index) => str.Length == index; String[] words = { "orange", "apple", "Article", "elephant", "star", "and" }; IEnumerable<String> aWords = words.Where(predicate).Select(str => str); foreach (String word in aWords) Console.WriteLine(word); I understand what all this is doing. What I don't understand is the Select(str => str) bit. Surely that's not needed? If you leave it out and just have IEnumerable<String> aWords = words.Where(predicate); then you still get an IEnumerable back that contains the same results, and the code prints the same thing. Am I missing something, or is the example misleading?

• When debugging in VS 2008 why does the debugger land on a second return statement?

  When debugging the following console program: class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { Console.WriteLine(DoIt(false)); Console.WriteLine(DoIt(true)); } private static Boolean DoIt(Boolean abort) { try { throw new InvalidOperationException(); } catch(Exception ex) { if (abort) { return true; } Console.WriteLine("Got here"); return false; } } } Why does the IDE land on the second return statement during the second call to DoIt()? The results of the execution is correct but the debugging experience is misleading. Is this a known issue? Is the behavior in VS 2010 the same?

• Why are some programs writing on stderr instead of stdout their output?

  I've recently added to my .bashrc file an ssh-add command. I found that ssh-add $HOME/.ssh/id_rsa_github > /dev/null results on a message "identity added and something else" every time I open a shell. While ssh-add $HOME/.ssh/id_rsa_github > /dev/null 2>&1 did the trick and my shell is now 'clean'. Reading on internet, I found that other command do it, (for example time). Could you please explain why it's done?

• Identifying when there is more than 1 in a group based on grouped field

  Sorry for the bad description it is tough to explain in one sentence. I have a dataset that has Cause field (RootCause) and an ID field (GroupID). Both can be many things but I need to identify where a GroupID has a multiple different rootcauses. for example: RootCause GrpId AAA 111 BBB 222 CCC 111 I am looking to be able to identify that GrpId 111 has two different RootCauses. This is what I have so far: Select [RootCause], GrpId, Count(GrpID) as CntGrpId From DB.dbo.Table Where DatatypeField <> '' Group BY [RootCause],GrpId This results set visualy gives me enough information to identify what I am looking for, but i need something better. I am looking to return only the ones that have multiples. Any ideas? Thanks

• Selecting a portion of a JSON array and applying variables in javascript or jquery

  I am retrieving a JSON file that returns its results like what you see below. The JSON has 365 days worth of data. I would like to create "views" of this JSON using javascript, one which pulls the last 10 days, then 1 month, 6 months, etc. After the getJSON function I am doing this to get a string as JSON, then turn it into an object and will then graph it. So I would like each "view" to be an object for the specified timeframe (using the one JSON). • Force a page cache of Ajax content

  I have a page that is an search where the results are loaded via ajax. It then lists products on a page and you can click to view each product. I'd like to change this page where after you view a product if you click "back" on your browser it'll load the cache instead of forcing the user to search again. How can I achieve this?   H ow can i get 123 out of ::123:: in a sentence then store it in a variable. for example : hi i am john ::123::. It will look for :::: tags and get 123 from the it and strip off other words in the sentence. • How can I decrease time opening myisam table in an "union all" of the same table??

  I have a myisam table with 2.5M rows, I use an union all to get my results as following: (SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=1 LIMIT 10) UNION ALL (SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=2 LIMIT 10) ... UNION ALL (SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=25 LIMIT 10) the time to opening the table t is about 6ms. With a single request: SELECT t.id FROM t WHERE type=1 LIMIT 10 the time is about 1ms. What I don't understand is why mysql spend more time to the same table in union all. It should recognize that is the same table and so just opening at the first union. Does anybody can help me to decrease the time for opening table in a "union all"? Thanks in advance!

When i fetch, i get 10 results, all the same word...   I have a notifications table which contains different types of notifications for different events. Inside the table is a notifications_type:string column that contains the type of notification, i.e. "foo" or "bar" or "oof" I want the user to be able to select what notifications they want to display, so there are checkboxes below the result that correspond to prefs_display_foo:boolean, prefs_display_bar:boolean in the User model. What is an elegant way for me to set the :conditions in the find to properly display the sorted results? Also, currently I have it as a method in the user, but how would I do it as a has_many :notifications, :conditions = .....

  I have a table with over 100,000 rows that contain the following columns: ID, Time, and Boolean. The time column tracks time down to the second. I need a query that will find all instances of Boolean = 1 for every 5 minute interval of time from the start of the table to the end, then group the count by time interval. The table represents 4 hours of data, so I should get 48 rows of results. I'm using MS SQL Server. I've tried a few approaches, but the time interval logic is giving me a hard time.

I need the syntax that selects records created within the last hour. thought it would be: and DATEDIFF("hh", datePart(hh, myTime), DatePart(hh, GETDATE()) < 1 where datediff 1) looks for hours; 2) looks at the hours portion of the data in myTime as starting; 3) looks at the hours portion of now for ending 3) produces an int that gets compared to '1' the results i'm getting are clearly way, way off base cuz umm...clearly...i don't know what i'm doing. help? thx

  I would like to use the IEnumerable function Intersect() to combine a few list and get the similar integers from each list. The problem I'm faced with is that I don't know how many list I will need to compare. Here is an example: A{1,2,3,4} B{1,2,3} C{1,2} results = A.Intersect(B).Intersect(C) This works great, but the next time around I may have a D{1,2} next time I come across the function. I'd like to use the Intersect method, but I'm open to new ideas as well.

• How come the [L] flag isn't working in my .htaccess file?

  Here are the rules: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^$ index.php?action=home [L] RewriteRule ^[\w\W]*$ error.php [L] When a page matches the first one, it is supposed to ignore any other further rules. Yet accessing / results in error.php being invoked. Commenting out the second rule works as intended - the page redirects to index.php. What am I doing wrong? Also: is there a better way to write the last line? It's basically a catch-all.

In ClassA, I want to have an property which maps to that something of SuperclassA. How could I do that? I want to make absolutely sure that any access to myBetterProperty results in accessing what's behind something. Assigning an value to myBetterProperty should result in assigning one to something, and vice versa. How to? Pointers set up in init? How would that look like? *self.myBetterProperty = &something; ? • How to test my outgoing emails in MS Outlook?

  Some people are complaining my html emails are showing up as plain text with html mark ups and others are complaining about unusual characters like 0=D 3=D. They appear to be using MS Outlook. I just installed MS Outlook and configured the imap settings to work with my gmail account. All my emails appear fine. So I suspect I need my MS Outlook to work with an MS Exchange server in order to produce the results my other Outlook recipients are seeing. But I'm not sure how to get access to an MS Exchange server (assuming that is the case). Can anyone recommend how I can reproduce the same email environment as my recipients such that I can get the same bugs they get? Thanks

• Need guidance for my first Android application: how many activities should I use?

  Hi, I'm starting Android doing an application for searching restaurants, and some guidance would be welcome! On the first screen I'd like to have a search field with a submit button (I get the data from a web service), and below a list with the results of the search. When clicking on one of the items of the list it will show a screen with the restaurant details as well as a map showing its location. My questions are: Can I do everything in one single activity or should I do an activity for the search, one for the result list, one for the restaurant description, and another for the map? Would doing one single activity make the application more responsive? How can I use a list and a map within a normal activity (without ListActivity and MapActivity)?
