  • Iterator blocks and inheritance.

    - by Dave Van den Eynde
Given a base class with the following interface: public class Base { public virtual IEnumerable<string> GetListOfStuff() { yield return "First"; yield return "Second"; yield return "Third"; } } I want to make a derived class that overrides the method, and adds its own stuff, like so: public class Derived : Base { public override IEnumerable<string> GetListOfStuff() { foreach (string s in base.GetListOfStuff()) { yield return s; } yield return "Fourth"; yield return "Fifth"; } } However, I'm greeted with a warning that "access to a member through a base keyword from an iterator cannot be verified". What's the accepted solution to this problem then?

  • Access ConfigurationSection from ConfigurationElement

    - by shivesh
I have a configuration class that maps web.config, something like that: public class SiteConfigurationSection : ConfigurationSection { [ConfigurationProperty("defaultConnectionStringName", DefaultValue = "LocalSqlServer")] public string DefaultConnectionStringName { get { return (string)base["defaultConnectionStringName"]; } set { base["defaultConnectionStringName"] = value; } } [ConfigurationProperty("Module", IsRequired = true)] public ModuleElement Module { get { return (ModuleElement)base["Module"]; } } } public class ModuleElement : ConfigurationElement { [ConfigurationProperty("connectionStringName")] public string ConnectionStringName { get { return (string)base["connectionStringName"]; } set { base["connectionStringName"] = value; } } public string ConnectionString { get { string str; if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(this.ConnectionStringName)) { str =//GET THE DefaultConnectionStringName from SiteConfigurationSection; } else str = this.ConnectionStringName; return WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[str].ConnectionString; } } } Meaning if connection string name value is missing in Module section in web.config file, the value should be read from configurationsection. How to do that?

  • Django Template Inheritance -- Missing Images?

    - by user367817
Howdy, I have got the following file heirarchy: project   other stuff   templates       images           images for site       app1           templates for app1       registration           login template       base.html (base for entire site)       style.css (for base.html) In the login template, I am extending 'base.html.' 'base.html' uses 'style.css' along with all of the images in the 'templates/images' directory. For some reason, none of the CSS styles or images will show up in the login template, even though I'm extending it. Does this missing image issue have something to do with screwed up "media" settings somewhere? I never understood those, but this is a major roadblock in my proof-of-concept, so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Running a method after the constructor of any derived class

    - by Alexey Romanov
Let's say I have a Java class abstract class Base { abstract void init(); ... } and I know every derived class will have to call init() after it's constructed. I could, of course, simply call it in the derived classes' constructors: class Derived1 extends Base { Derived1() { ... init(); } } class Derived2 extends Base { Derived2() { ... init(); } } but this breaks "don't repeat yourself" principle rather badly (and there are going to be many subclasses of Base). Of course, the init() call can't go into the Base() constructor, since it would be executed too early. Any ideas how to bypass this problem? I would be quite happy to see a Scala solution, too.

  • Custom Control Overriding Command Button

    - by pm_2
I am trying to create a custom command button that defaults width and height to specific settings. I have the following code: public partial class myCommandButton : Button { public magCommandButton() { InitializeComponent(); } [DefaultValue(840)] public override int Width { get { return base.Width; } set { base.Width = value; } } [DefaultValue(340)] public override int Height { get { return base.Height; } set { base.Height = value; } } protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs pe) { base.OnPaint(pe); } } However, it won't compile because it tells me that I can not override Width or Height. Can anyone tell me if I'm approaching this wrongly, or if there's a way around this?

  • Javascript adding two numbers incorrectly

    - by Scott
Global.alert("base: " + base + ", upfront: " + upfront + ", both: " + (base + upfront)); This code above outputs this: base: 15000, upfront: 36, both: 1500036 Why is it joining the two numbers instead of adding them up? I eventually want to set the value of another field to this amount using this: mainPanel.feesPanel.initialLoanAmount.setValue(Ext.util.Format.number((base + upfront), '$0,000.00')); ...and when I try that now it turns the number into the millions instead of 15,036.00. I have no idea why. Any ideas?

  • Custom ASP.Net MVC 2 ModelMetadataProvider for using custom view model attributes

    - by SeanMcAlinden
There are a number of ways of implementing a pattern for using custom view model attributes, the following is similar to something I’m using at work which works pretty well. The classes I’m going to create are really simple: 1. Abstract base attribute 2. Custom ModelMetadata provider which will derive from the DataAnnotationsModelMetadataProvider   Base Attribute MetadataAttribute using System; using System.Web.Mvc; namespace Mvc2Templates.Attributes {     /// <summary>     /// Base class for custom MetadataAttributes.     /// </summary>     public abstract class MetadataAttribute : Attribute     {         /// <summary>         /// Method for processing custom attribute data.         /// </summary>         /// <param name="modelMetaData">A ModelMetaData instance.</param>         public abstract void Process(ModelMetadata modelMetaData);     } } As you can see, the class simple has one method – Process. Process accepts the ModelMetaData which will allow any derived custom attributes to set properties on the model meta data and add items to its AdditionalValues collection.   Custom Model Metadata Provider For a quick explanation of the Model Metadata and how it fits in to the MVC 2 framework, it is basically a set of properties that are usually set via attributes placed above properties on a view model, for example the ReadOnly and HiddenInput attributes. When EditorForModel, DisplayForModel or any of the other EditorFor/DisplayFor methods are called, the ModelMetadata information is used to determine how to display the properties. All of the information available within the model metadata is also available through ViewData.ModelMetadata. The following class derives from the DataAnnotationsModelMetadataProvider built into the mvc 2 framework. I’ve overridden the CreateMetadata method in order to process any custom attributes that may have been placed above a property in a view model.   CustomModelMetadataProvider using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web.Mvc; using Mvc2Templates.Attributes; namespace Mvc2Templates.Providers {     public class CustomModelMetadataProvider : DataAnnotationsModelMetadataProvider     {         protected override ModelMetadata CreateMetadata(             IEnumerable<Attribute> attributes,             Type containerType,             Func<object> modelAccessor,             Type modelType,             string propertyName)         {             var modelMetadata = base.CreateMetadata(attributes, containerType, modelAccessor, modelType, propertyName);               attributes.OfType<MetadataAttribute>().ToList().ForEach(x => x.Process(modelMetadata));               return modelMetadata;         }     } } As you can see, once the model metadata is created through the base method, a check for any attributes deriving from our new abstract base attribute MetadataAttribute is made, the Process method is then called on any existing custom attributes with the model meta data for the property passed in.   Hooking it up The last thing you need to do to hook it up is set the new CustomModelMetadataProvider as the current ModelMetadataProvider, this is done within the Global.asax Application_Start method. Global.asax protected void Application_Start()         {             AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas();               RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes);               ModelMetadataProviders.Current = new CustomModelMetadataProvider();         }   In my next post, I’m going to demonstrate a cool custom attribute that turns a textbox into an ajax driven AutoComplete text box. Hope this is useful. Kind Regards, Sean McAlinden.

  • October 2012 Critical Patch Update and Critical Patch Update for Java SE Released

    - by Eric P. Maurice
Hi, this is Eric Maurice. Oracle has just released the October 2012 Critical Patch Update and the October 2012 Critical Patch Update for Java SE.  As a reminder, the release of security patches for Java SE continues to be on a different schedule than for other Oracle products due to commitments made to customers prior to the Oracle acquisition of Sun Microsystems.  We do however expect to ultimately bring Java SE in line with the regular Critical Patch Update schedule, thus increasing the frequency of scheduled security releases for Java SE to 4 times a year (as opposed to the current 3 yearly releases).  The schedules for the “normal” Critical Patch Update and the Critical Patch Update for Java SE are posted online on the Critical Patch Updates and Security Alerts page. The October 2012 Critical Patch Update provides a total of 109 new security fixes across a number of product families including: Oracle Database Server, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle E-Business Suite, Supply Chain Products Suite, Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise, Oracle Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Oracle Industry Applications, Oracle FLEXCUBE, Oracle Sun products suite, Oracle Linux and Virtualization, and Oracle MySQL. Out of these 109 new vulnerabilities, 5 affect Oracle Database Server.  The most severe of these Database vulnerabilities has received a CVSS Base Score of 10.0 on Windows platforms and 7.5 on Linux and Unix platforms.  This vulnerability (CVE-2012-3137) is related to the “Cryptographic flaws in Oracle Database authentication protocol” disclosed at the Ekoparty Conference.  Because of timing considerations (proximity to the release date of the October 2012 Critical Patch Update) and the need to extensively test the fixes for this vulnerability to ensure compatibility across the products stack, the fixes for this vulnerability were not released through a Security Alert, but instead mitigation instructions were provided prior to the release of the fixes in this Critical Patch Update in My Oracle Support Note 1492721.1.  Because of the severity of these vulnerabilities, Oracle recommends that this Critical Patch Update be installed as soon as possible. Another 26 vulnerabilities fixed in this Critical Patch Update affect Oracle Fusion Middleware.  The most severe of these Fusion Middleware vulnerabilities has received a CVSS Base Score of 10.0; it affects Oracle JRockit and is related to Java vulnerabilities fixed in the Critical Patch Update for Java SE.  The Oracle Sun products suite gets 18 new security fixes with this Critical Patch Update.  Note also that Oracle MySQL has received 14 new security fixes; the most severe of these MySQL vulnerabilities has received a CVSS Base Score of 9.0. Today’s Critical Patch Update for Java SE provides 30 new security fixes.  The most severe CVSS Base Score for these Java SE vulnerabilities is 10.0 and this score affects 10 vulnerabilities.  As usual, Oracle reports the most severe CVSS Base Score, and these CVSS 10.0s assume that the user running a Java Applet or Java Web Start application has administrator privileges (as is typical on Windows XP). However, when the user does not run with administrator privileges (as is typical on Solaris and Linux), the corresponding CVSS impact scores for Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability are "Partial" instead of "Complete", typically lowering the CVSS Base Score to 7.5 denoting that the compromise does not extend to the underlying Operating System.  Also, as is typical in the Critical Patch Update for Java SE, most of the vulnerabilities affect Java and Java FX client deployments only.  Only 2 of the Java SE vulnerabilities fixed in this Critical Patch Update affect client and server deployments of Java SE, and only one affects server deployments of JSSE.  This reflects the fact that Java running on servers operate in a more secure and controlled environment.  As discussed during a number of sessions at JavaOne, Oracle is considering security enhancements for Java in desktop and browser environments.  Finally, note that the Critical Patch Update for Java SE is cumulative, in other words it includes all previously released security fixes, including the fix provided through Security Alert CVE-2012-4681, which was released on August 30, 2012. For More Information: The October 2012 Critical Patch Update advisory is located at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/cpuoct2012-1515893.html The October 2012 Critical Patch Update for Java SE advisory is located at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/javacpuoct2012-1515924.html.  An online video about the importance of keeping up with Java releases and the use of the Java auto update is located at http://medianetwork.oracle.com/video/player/1218969104001 More information about Oracle Software Security Assurance is located at http://www.oracle.com/us/support/assurance/index.html

  • Rails: Multiple "has_many through" for the two same models?

    - by neezer
Can't wrap my head around this... class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :fantasies, :through => :fantasizings has_many :fantasizings, :dependent => :destroy end class Fantasy < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :users, :through => :fantasizings has_many :fantasizings, :dependent => :destroy end class Fantasizing < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :fantasy end ... which works fine for my primary relationship, in that a User can have many Fantasies, and that a Fantasy can belong to many Users. However, I need to add another relationship for liking (as in, a User "likes" a Fantasy rather than "has" it... think of Facebook and how you can "like" a wall-post, even though it doesn't "belong" to you... in fact, the Facebook example is almost exactly what I'm aiming for). I gathered that I should make another association, but I'm kinda confused as to how I might use it, or if this is even the right approach. I started by adding the following: class Fantasy < ActiveRecord::Base ... has_many :users, :through => :approvals has_many :approvals, :dependent => :destroy end class User < ActiveRecord::Base ... has_many :fantasies, :through => :approvals has_many :approvals, :dependent => :destroy end class Approval < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :fantasy end ... but how do I create the association through Approval rather than through Fantasizing? If someone could set me straight on this, I'd be much obliged!

    Okay so I was just starting this rails app and generated my first model ruby script/generate model Grid req:string class:string ctitle:string credits:float grade:string pass:boolean created my table rake db:migrate (in C:/Users/Michael/InstantRails/rails_apps/studentGrid) == CreateGrids: migrating ==================================================== -- create_table(:grids) - 0.0150s == CreateGrids: migrated (0.0150s) =========================================== and went to the console to add some data to my table Grid = Grid(id: integer, req: string, class: string, ctitle: string, credits: float, grade: string, pass: boolean, created_at: datetime, updated_at: datetime) Grid.create(:req="Math Elective", :class="Math 111", :ctitle="Calculus I", :credits=3.0) Pretty standard I thought, but then I get this error and I don't understand why NoMethodError: undefined method 'generated_methods' for nil:NilClass from C:/Users/Michael/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activesup port-2.3.5/lib/active_support/whiny_nil.rb:52:inmethod_missing' from C:/Users/Michael/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerec ord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/attribute_methods.rb:352:in respond_to?' from C:/Users/Michael/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerec ord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:2746:inattributes=' from C:/Users/Michael/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerec ord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:2742:in each' from C:/Users/Michael/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerec ord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:2742:inattributes=' from C:/Users/Michael/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerec ord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:2438:in initialize' from C:/Users/Michael/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerec ord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:721:innew' from C:/Users/Michael/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerec ord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:721:in `create' from (irb):2 from :0
