  I am porting an old 32-bit COM component that was written in VB6 for the purpose of reading and writing to an Active Directory server. The new solution will be in C# and will use SQL CLR user functions. The assembly that I am trying to deploy to SQL Server contains a reference to System.DirectoryServices. The project does compile without any errors but I am unable to deploy the assembly to the SQL Server because of the following error: Error: Assembly 'system.directoryservices, version=2.0.0.0, culture=neutral, publickeytoken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a.' was not found in the SQL catalog. What are the correct steps for registering System.DirectoryServices on SQL Server?

• Installing Enclosure with Netbeans

  Hi all, I am having trouble installing Enclosure and getting it to work. I have followed this guide http://www.enclojure.org/gettingstarted and successfully installed Enclosure (I think). However, when I try to build the sample application (labrepl) I get a bunch of errors and a failed build. I haven't used Java in a long time and I've never used Netbeans, and the error doesn't seem very helpful with my limited knowledge of this domain. I'm using the latest Netbeans and the Enclosure URL from the guide. Since I am on Windows, I can't use git to clone the repo, so I'm not sure what to do from here. • Refresh backend in GWT development

  I am developing a GWT application that uses EJB and other Java EE 6 technology as the backend. I am currently using the GWT 2.0 plugin for Safari. When I change my GWT client side code and save in my IDE (NetBeans), all that's required is a simple reload in the browser for the changes to become active. That works great! However, often I work on the server-side (the EJBs, GWT server code, etc) and then something in on the GWT client side. Any changes done to the server-side do not appear to incrementally deploy to the Glassfish V3 server. Currently I close the GWT Development Mode application, and then recompile the EJBs, and then go back into GWT Development mode. That is tedious. Any better way of doing this? I tried the "deploy on save" option in NetBeans but it does not seem to do the trick.

• Modify installed SharePoint feature

  I have written a sequential workflow in SharePoint on our development environment. After testing, we decided to deploy this workflow as a feature on the staging environment. We did the following: copied the strongly named assembly to the GAC using gacutil copied feature.xml and workflow.xml to WebServerExtensions/12/templates/features/someFolder installed feature (stsadm command) activated feature (stsadm command) All worked exactly as planned and the workflow behaved correctly. The problem was, we decided to change something in the code (a message was not very self explanatory), so on the development machine we updated the message as requested and rebuilt the project. The problem is, we cannot seem to find a way to correctly get rid of the previous version of this workflow/feature. To deploy the upgrade, we: deactivated and uninstalled the feature (stsadm commands), removed also from GAC. increased the version of the assembly performed steps 1 to 4 from above. When using the workflow we are still getting the first message, we cannot find a way to get the new message to be displayed. What are we missing?

The server and database is stored on my local harddrive and I would like to learn to scale this up to having multiple users in our office access the application which I will i deploy on a server. For now the database will stay on my pc until I am ready to put it on a dedicated server for myself but for now how do I allow the application still to access my database. • How to update individual files in a war file

  Hi guys, I am doing some research in the way i can deploy an application efficiently using a war file. What i currently do is i deliver the war file everytime there is a release. This means everytime there is a change no matter how small the change is i have to build and deliver all files that make up the application. I am thinking that maybe this is not the correct way to do this. For example if there is a change to a css file i have to rebuild the war file which will include all file. This includes recompiling all *.java files as well. In the above example, is it possible to build a war file with just the css file and deploy it to the tomcat server and have Tomcat just replace the css file and leave everything else as is?

  Is it possible to develop a web-app in ASP.NET (framework is not a constraint), to have a sandbox architecture, and deploy widgets without disturbing the parent application? I expect both the parent application and the widget to be developed using .NET. EDIT: To elaborate, I want to have an web-app, say App1, and widgets (say wid1 and wid2). wid1 and wid2 should be like a plugin into App1, only difference is that, if I make any changes to wid1, I want to be able to deploy it without disturbing App1 or Wid2. The widgets can be something similar to a flash object, only that it needs to be developed on .net.

  I'm trying to deploy my WCF RIA services application to our in-house server for testing. I am running the version of the exe that I found inside of C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.21006 There is also C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.0\Windows Communication Foundation that has (what I assume is) the same exe in it, and I can use it just fine. I've tried to un-install the 3.0 version before installing the 4.0 version, but I am still getting the same warning and failure. Has anyone successfully done this with .net 4.0?

• capistrano put() and upload() both failing

  With capistrano, I am deploying a Rails application from Mac OS X 10.5 to CentOS 5.2 Note that deploy.rb and the server environment have not changed in over a year. There is a task within our deploy.rb file called upload: put(File.read( file ),"#{shared_path}/#{filename}", :via => :scp) This fails each and every time with the following exception: No such file or directory - /srv/ourapp/releases/20100104194410/config/database.yml My local copy of config/database.yml is failing to upload properly. I've verified it's not our internet connection, as this happens on three different connections and two different systems. I've also tried to swap out put() for upload() but get the same result; also, dropping :via = :scp, and/or trying to force :sftp instead similarly fails. Relevant info: $ cap -V Capistrano v2.5.10 $ ruby -v ruby 1.8.7 (2008-08-11 patchlevel 72) [i686-darwin9.6.0]

• "Initializing - Busy - Stopping" LOOP issue in Azure deployement

  Hi folks, I am trying to deploy an azure cloud application on Windows Azure. Application specifications are -- It has one WebRole - ASP.Net MVC Application (ASP.Net charting control is used in this MVC application) It does not contain any worker role. Third party references are set with property "copy Local" to "true"(MVC,ASP Charting control & ASP Provider DLLs) There is no DiagnosticsConnectionString in service configuration file It uses ASP provider for session state management. This application runs successfully on local dev fabric but when I try to deploy it on Windows Azure it gets stuck in a loop with status being changed between Initializing, Busy, Stopping states. It never goes into READY state. It seems that there are no ERROR logs for conveying the deployment issues to user. So is there any way to diagnose deployment issues ? Is there any way to get deployment ERROR logs ? Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks, Kushal

I have this problem - Everytime i deploy the app to the cloud, I'm having to hardcode the IP address of the server into the ActionScript/MXML files (http://72.93.48.39:8080/xxx/abc/) and for certain reasons, i am forced to choose a different IP everytime. and i think its really not the right way to deploy the application. I would like to know what other people do in such scenarios? On thinking about it, i thought i could make it pickup values from the HTMLVars of the HTML wrapper. but that again has to be edited everytime again and again. will it be possible to be able to supply these values : server's ip address, server's port number(in case its not 8080 on some machine) at build time? if so can anyone give me a barbones sample build.xml just as an example?

• Missing safe control entry

  I've got a working hello-world like webpart for my SPS3.0 I can compile, pack and deploy it using VS2008, makecab.exe and stsadm. So I know the theory of deploying sharepoint webparts. My problem: After I inserted an additional .webpart file, an elements.xml and a feature.xml to deploy the .webpart file and get knowledge about adding features to my webpart, the deployed webpart is missing its safe control entry in the web.config. But the dll can be found in the gac and my features are also deployed to the right folders. I didn't change anything in my manifest.xml especially not in it's -tag, because it definitely worked before i added my additional feature files. Can anybody help me? Should i provide you some code snippets? Thanks Stefan

  In the list of new features in Silverlight 4 you will find following: Webcam and microphone to allow sharing of video and audio for instance for chat or customer service applications. Silverlight captures an audio stream as raw pcm. So how would you realize for example audio/video chat or client/server audio recording application without any encoding on the client side, where there is no APIs in Silverlight available? Much less in a Silverlight you cannot use an unmanaged dll. You can use a com automation (a new feature of the Silverlight 4, I think only for Windows) but only if it was already installed on the client side (do you know any encoding COM servers that are installed with the windows). Otherwise, how would you deploy a custom COM server within you Silverlight application? The only way I found is either to deploy a command-line encoding and use it with COM AutomationFactory.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") or to implement an encoding to use it in your own AudioSink.

Until now I found Terrarium 2.0 (http://terrarium2.codeplex.com/). In principle this is what I need: the ability to create some creature/agent and deploy it into a simulation framework where it will interact with other agents. • Script.PostDeployment.sql not executing in CI build VS 2010

  I have a database project in VS 2010 (SQL 2008). The local Deploy Solution action works and executes all of the SQL in the Script.PostDeployment.sql file. When I check changes in, the Build Definition for the continuous integration server executes. The database is deployed into the CI environment, but the PostDeployment script doesn't get executed. I wasn't able to find anything specific to this particular scenario. I also expect I'll need to provide additional information unless this is a trivial problem that I missed somewhere. Additional Information: The build is executing vsdbcmd.exe to deploy. The deployment manifest references the PostDeployment.sql file and it's present in the path with the rest of the files. • How do I prevent capistrano from overwriting files uploaded by users in their own folders?

  I'm using Capistrano and git to deploy a RoR app. I have a folder under which each user has their own folder. When a user uploads or saves a file, it is saved in their own folder. When I deploy new versions of the code to the server, the user files and folders are overwritten with what's on my dev machine. Is there a way to ignore some folders in capistrano, like we do in git? This post - http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/97539 - suggests using symlinks and storing the user files in a shared folder. But it's an old post, so I'm wondering if there is a better way to do it now. Also, does anyone know of any good screencasts/tutorials to recommend for using RoR+git+capistrano? Thanks.

  Hi. Im looking to deploy a web application on a build server. It is a very small web app and so far i have written a nice little console app that checks out from SVN and then calls msbuild on the .sln file. This of course is not the same as publishing a web app and so far have not found a programatic way of publishing. So my question is this.. After msbuild has run can i simply delete all .cs and .vb files and then deploy? or Should i really try and find a way to publish programatically?

• Integrate ClickOnce update in a setup

  As recent decision in my team we decided to deploy a software we develop for some time now in ClickOnce. Previously it was deployed with a merge module in a setup project. We had in mind to actually deploy the ClickOnce setup/updater in the web server setup. The problem here would not exactly to integrate it but to make sure to limit the human work to integrate it. Normally I guess it would be necessary to "add - file" and select the folder containing the setup.exe + publish.htm + application files + .application, but I fear that for each time we publish a new version to the hard drive we have to update the setup project as well. Would someone have some insight to help that ? (especially to not have to add the program_[version] folder inside application files that is created each time a new publish is done).

• Web page with embedded .NET control in IBM WebSphere 6.1

  Hello, I have very simple web page with embedded .NET control in it via the <object> tag. The problem is that when I deploy it to an IIS server it works fine (the .NET control is shown). The same is for the Apache server. But when I deploy it to the WebSphere server I get the html but the .NET control does not appear. Probably it is some kind of a server configuration issue, but I cannot figure it out. I would appreciate any suggestions. Best regards!

  How do you manage your sql server database build/deploy/migrate for visual studio projects? We have a product that includes a reasonable database part (~100 tables, ~500 procs/functions/views), so we need to be able to deploy new databases of the current version as well as upgrade older databases up to the current version. Currently we maintain separate scripts for creation of new databases and migration between versions. Clearly not ideal, but how is anyone else dealing with this? This is complicated for us by having many customers who each have their own db instance, rather than say just having dev/test/live instances on our own web servers, but the processes around managing dev/test/live for others must be similar.

  Hi, I am facing problem in creating an mvc application as sub-application of the asp.net application. My Mvc application is doing fine in development environment and even when it is deployed normally. However whenever I tried to deploy it as a sub-application of an asp.net application like http://mainapplication/mvcsubapplication I got an error The view 'Index' or its master could not be found. The following locations were searched: ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx ~/Views/Home/Index.ascx ~/Views/Shared/Index.aspx ~/Views/Shared/Index.ascx There is no problem in view naming since application is well tested in development environment. • I'm having a problem redeploying an applications using Drools and Tomcat 6

  I have a spring application that uses JBoss Drools 5. It works fine except for when I attempt to redeploy (i.e. hot deploy) the application after I make a change during development. It appears that tomcat keeps a lock on 2 drools jar files, drools-compiler-5.0.1.jar and drools-core-5.0.1.jar. Since they can't be deleted the new war file does not get deployed. If my application does not make any Drools logic calls, then the hot deploy works. Does anyone have any ideas?
