• How can i show correct last login date time in website?

  Hi All, I have created a asp.net website, that we are going to deploy at India. All client of this website would be from SWEDEN. This site have option (last login date time) at user's dashboard after successfull login. Now my problem is that if application is deploy at India and user loggedin from SWEDEN then user is able to show only server date time which is of India. My Steps are as following 1. User logged into site first time at 10 AM(server time), surfing starts... 2. Logged out at 10:30 (server time) 3. Application store server datetime in database. 4. Next time user come, application will store same date and time from database as last loggin datetime. How can i store SWEDEN date time in database when user logged out from site, it will in future grow to other country also. Please help?

What is the approx minimum yearly cost for a single EC2 windows small instance? I wnat to deploy a simple Online quiz application (ASP.net based) on Amazon Cloud which at a time can have maximum of 500 users only. • Click-Once deployment is leaving multiple versions (yes, more than 2)

  I've got a click once application that is leaving all old versions on my disk. It's an internal corporate application that gets frequent updates, so this is a disaster for rapidly inflating our backup size. According to the docs and other SO questions, it is supposed to only leave the current and previous versions on disk. However, each time I deploy the project and upgrade a client, I get another copy of all exe/dll/data files. I'm making no changes whatsoever to the application, just pushing deploy again in Visual Studio. Any ideas? Updates: The problem seems to happen on both Windows 7 and XP. 64 bit windows and 32. I've done a diff of the folders where the version is installed and the following files are different: MyApp.exe.manifest MyApp.exe.cdf-ms MyDll1.cdf-ms MyDll2.cdf-ms No actual executable files are different, nor the MyApp.manifest, MyDll1.manifest, etc.

• Error 2908 when installing assemblies into GAC

  Hi, I'm receiving 2908 (0x80131047: The given assembly name or code-base is invalid) error when running my MSI package. The problem occures when the MSI tries to deploy a component with .NET assembly into a GAC. NOTE: only assemblies with dependencies fail. The MSI is created with IS 2010. I am able to deploy the assembly manually with GACUTIL. I verified .NET Framework (all versions upto 3,5)is installed. I verified assembly properties are identical with MsiAssemblyName table properties. However, somehow I had made the installation working fine before. But when the product was moved to Visual Studio 2008 and .NET 3.0 I started facing the problem. Do you guys have any thought on this. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks much!

• Capistrano SSH::AuthenticationFailed, not prompting for password

  I've been using capistrano successfully for a while now and all of a sudden in every project I've lost the ability to deploy. Environment: os X (Mavericks) ruby 1.9.3p194 rvm (locally, not on server) rails 3.2 and up RubyGems 1.8.25 I'm not using rsa_keys or anything I want capistrano to prompt for user and password. Suddenly it has decided not to ask for a password, but does ask for user. Then it rolls back and gives me the following error. [deploy:update_code] exception while rolling back: Capistrano::ConnectionError, connection failed for: sub.example.com (Net::SSH::AuthenticationFailed: Authentication failed for user [email protected]) connection failed for: sub.example.com (Net::SSH::AuthenticationFailed: Authentication failed for user [email protected]) This has occurred on my personal laptop and my iMac at work. It occurs when deploying to two different servers (both linux) I'm completely at a loss here. Any ideas?

• How can I setup Eclipse for better Android Widget development?

  I'm trying to develop a widget for Android. I'm using Eclipse but I can't get the view editor setup to match what I'm going to see when I deploy to my phone. I'm creating a 4x1 widget. I've gone through and tried setting up a new "Device" so that I can preview what the widget will look like before I deploy. I said the device is landscape, setup a 240dpi for the x and y on the device and set the dimensions to 294x72 (also tried 72x294 but that didn't work any better). I've done some googling and I can't seem to find any guides for setting up Eclipse. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

• Automate publishing of a WCF library using MSBuild

  I searched and couldn't find anything releated to this topic. When using Visual Studio 2010 for a WCF library, you can right-click it and publish the WCF Library, which generates/creates the .svc and web.config file as well as deploys it. I have been trying to mimic this in msbuild and have had no success. Is this possible? I have build scripts to deploy a WCF application, website, and have had no luck using these scripts to successfully deploy a WCF library. When i do use them, it compiles the Dll's but not the .svc or web.config file. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

• Alternative to 'publish' in visual studio

  I am working on an app with configurable files. When i publish i notice 1) I get an installer which i dont think i can opt out of 2) I dont know where the install path is and if i change the config files the application will not install (maybe not run either if i edit them in the right place?) So what alternatives do i have? I would like some event i can run which builds in release mode then copies the release.exe and any config/media file and move it to path/deploy/prj/ so i can zip it or share it instead of a path in my sensitive path/src area (bonus is i can share deploy if i want all projects to be available (and no source)) Using visual studio 2010 -edit- also i need some data in src/relatedprj/bin/*, to be copied into the root

• Why Solr admin query page interprets UTF-8 as ISO-8859-1

  I deploy a war to my Tomcat 6.0.35 on Win7 64bit and when I use full-interface query page (I mean form.jsp) in Solr Admin to query 2 Chinese character (say it's C1C2) , the debug info shows: <lst name="debug"> <str name="rawquerystring">æ°è</str> <str name="querystring">æ°è</str> <str name="parsedquery">NEWSID:æ°è</str> <str name="parsedquery_toString">NEWSID:æ°è</str> ... You can see C1C2 becomes æ°è. I deploy same war file to Tomcat on Linux or on another Win7 64bit of my colleagues' computer, the encoding acts well.   Does anyone use Phing to deploy PHP applications, and if so how do you use it? We currently have a hand-written "setup" script that we run whenever we deploy a new instance of our project. We just checkout from SVN and run it. It sets some basic configuration variables, installs or reloads the database, and generates a v-host for the site instance. I have often thought that maybe we should be using Phing. I haven't used ant much, so I don't have a real sense of what Phing is supposed to do other than script the copying of files from one place to another much as our setup script does. What are some more advanced uses that you can give examples of to help me understand why we would or would not want to integrate Phing into our process.

  Hi All! I have asp.net application, using LINQ to connecto to SQL Server 2008 R2 databse. My connection string: Data Source=[SqlServerIp];Initial Catalog=[databaseName]User Id=newLogin;Password=newPassword; When I deploy application on my local IIS (which is not the same machine as database server) it works fine, but when I deploy application on other IIS (the same machine as sqlServer) it throws an exception: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. Anyone knows how to fix it? Maybe it is due to some bad configuration of IIS? Please help.

• Is it possible to talk to the iPhone simulator/device.

  I need to automate the build/deploy process for my iphone applications from a script. I can use xcodebuild to build the project, then use Applescript to deploy and debug/run the application. Assuming the application will stop by itself after a while, I need to collect the generated logs for verification. But the problem is I have no way to know when the application ended from outside of the application itself. If the running time is fixed, I can again use Applescript to stop the application (Cmd+Shift+Enter). So there has to be a way to connect to the device/simulator and wait on the application somehow.

  I had media files require in the project so i did this + set built action to content Now here are my problems I would like my app to check for .NET and to check for other installs which is fine now that i made a prerequisite I would like to copy media files when i publish One of these files is a config file i like the user to edit Problem is after doing 1 which gives me a publish folder with a setup.exe + files i have no idea where my installed files are and if i modify the file.ext.deploy i get an error about the hash of the file modified. Is there a way i can have plain non deploy files or distribute the bin/release folder as i normally do but add something to check my prerequisite?

I really don't like to have the gaesessions and geo in my root, but their namespace are by root. I would like to have a structure like this: ProjectName -src -python -thirdParty -gaesessions -geo -app -static_files is this possible? or even better would be to make them as a library. this would be the best thing, but how to do this in eclipse and then when deploy my app, to deploy with those files too? thanks

• How can I use a pre-populated core data DB on my device.

  Hi all, I have developed my app using core data. It works fine in the simulator. When I deploy it to the device the DB is empty. It is 49k where it should be 484k. Basically it is not populated. Since I don't write to the DB when the app is running I need to provide a populated DB to the App. So I copied the populated DB from the simulator to resources and then deploy. Still no luck. the populated DB is in MyApp.app and the AppDelegate is reading from the Documents directory. How do I either get it in the documents directory or get the app delegate to look in the app? Thanks in advance, Andrew

  Hi there. I am a rookie to SQL and here is my questions. I have some CLR sql functions and procedures. When I deploy the 1st one, everything is fine. But after the 2nd one deployed, the first one will disappear. Anyone can help me out? Thanks a lot Actually, I simply create a new SQL project in VS, adding a new function or stored procedure, click deploy, and I can see the new function in my SQL instance. Then I close that project and open a new one, repeat the above steps, OK, the 2nd function is there i my instance but the 1st one disappeared or be replaced and no longer queryable for use. Thank you for your reply. All these clr functions and procedures are in the same instance of the database.

  I'm trying to set up a batch file to automatically deploy a php app to a web server. Basically, what I want is an entirely automated process: I would just give it a revision number from the repository and it would then export the files, upload via ftp and then update deployment info at the repo host (codebase). However, I'm starting from scratch here. How would I set up a batch file to accept a variable when it was run? For example, the command myfile.bat /revision 42 should deploy revision 42 to my server. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

• Can a SQL Server 2008 database support both a REST and SOAP web services within two different endpoints?

  Say you have a SQL Server 2008 database. You build a SOAP web service. You then deploy or publish this using Visual Studio 2010 in one website. Now, using the same database, you build a REST web service, in a different solution. You deploy this on another website. Can you consume the endpoints and/or .svc file of both the SOAP and REST web services, though they reference the same SQL Server 2008 database? I don't see why not, but before I go down this path and spend days I'd like to make sure. Also if there's a performance hit to the database if it is running both SOAP and REST at the same time--again, I don't see why it would matter, but I must make sure. Thanks.

• How to publish an ASP.NET MVC application to a free host

  Hi, I'm using a free web host (0000free) which supports ASP.NET MVC, but it uses Mono. This is the first time I deploy an MVC application, so I'm a little confused as to where I need to deploy it. I have Visual Studio 2010 and I used its Publish Feature (i.e. right click on the project name and click publish) and I tried several things: Publish method: FTP to the root folder. Publish method: FTP to the publich_html folder. Publish method: File System to the root folder. Publish method: File System to the publich_html folder. Publish method: File System to a local directory on my computer and then FTP to root and also tried the public_html folder. I went into the cPanel (control panel) to try and see if ASP.NET has to be added/enabled for my web site, but I didn't see anything there. I can't browse to Index.aspx nor can I redirect to it from index.html (as suggested from other posts on the host forum), right now I have a link from index.html to Index.aspx but it's not working either (see http://www.mydevarmy.com) I've also tried renaming Index.aspx to Default.aspx, but that doesn't work either. • Using Upstart to manage Unicorn w/ rbenv + bundler binstubs w/ ruby-local-exec shebang

  Alright, this is melting my brain. It might have something to do with the fact that I don't understand Upstart as well as I should. Sorry in advance for the long question. I'm trying to use Upstart to manage a Rails app's Unicorn master process. Here is my current /etc/init/app.conf: description "app" start on runlevel [2] stop on runlevel [016] console owner # expect daemon script APP_ROOT=/home/deploy/app PATH=/home/deploy/.rbenv/shims:/home/deploy/.rbenv/bin:$PATH $APP_ROOT/bin/unicorn -c $APP_ROOT/config/unicorn.rb -E production # >> /tmp/upstart.log 2>&1 end script # respawn That works just fine - the Unicorns start up great. What's not great is that the PID detected is not of the Unicorn master, it's of an sh process. That in and of itself isn't so bad, either - if I wasn't using the automagical Unicorn zero-downtime deployment strategy. Because shortly after I send -USR2 to my Unicorn master, a new master spawns up, and the old one dies...and so does the sh process. So Upstart thinks my job has died, and I can no longer restart it with restart or stop it with stop if I want. I've played around with the config file, trying to add -D to the Unicorn line (like this: $APP_ROOT/bin/unicorn -c $APP_ROOT/config/unicorn.rb -E production -D) to daemonize Unicorn, and I added the expect daemon line, but that didn't work either. I've tried expect fork as well. Various combinations of all of those things can cause start and stop to hang, and then Upstart gets really confused about the state of the job. Then I have to restart the machine to fix it. I think Upstart is having problems detecting when/if Unicorn is forking because I'm using rbenv + the ruby-local-exec shebang in my $APP_ROOT/bin/unicorn script. When you run the scripts, they'll use the project-specified # Ruby version, regardless of what directory they're run from. Useful # for e.g. running project tasks in cron scripts without needing to # `cd` into the project first. set -e export RBENV_DIR="${1%/*}" exec ruby "$@" So there's an exec in there that I'm worried about. It fires up a Ruby process, which fires up Unicorn, which may or may not daemonize itself, which all happens from an sh process in the first place...which makes me seriously doubt the ability of Upstart to track all of this nonsense. Is what I'm trying to do even possible? From what I understand, the expect stanza in Upstart can only be told (via daemon or fork) to expect a maximum of two forks.

• Is the Cloud ready for an Enterprise Java web application? Seeking a JEE hosting advice.

  Greetings to all the smart people around here! I'd like to ask whether it is feasible or a good idea at all to deploy a Java enterprise web application to a Cloud such as Amazon EC2. More exactly, I'm looking for infrastructure options for an application that shall handle few hundred users with long but neither CPU nor memory intensive sessions. I'm considering dedicated servers, virtual private servers (VPSs) and EC2. I've noticed that there is a project called JBoss Cloud so people are working on enabling such a deployment, on the other hand it doesn't seem to be mature yet and I'm not sure that the cloud is ready for this kind of applications, which differs from the typical cloud-based applications like Twitter. Would you recommend to deploy it to the cloud? What are the pros and cons? The application is a Java EE 5 web application whose main function is to enable users to compose their own customized Product by combining the available Parts. It uses stateless and stateful session beans and JPA for persistence of entities to a RDBMS and fetches information about Parts from the company's inventory system via a web service. Aside of external users it's used also by few internal ones, who are authenticated against the company's LDAP. The application should handle around 300-400 concurrent users building their product and should be reasonably scalable and available though these qualities are only of a medium importance at this stage. I've proposed an architecture consisting of a firewall (FW) and load balancer supporting sticky sessions and https (in the Cloud this would be replaced with EC2's Elastic Load Balancing service and FW on the app. servers, in a physical architecture the load-balancer would be a HW), then two physical clustered application servers combined with web servers (so that if one fails, a user doesn't loose his/her long built product) and finally a database server. The DB server would need a slave backup instance that can replace the master instance if it fails. This should provide reasonable availability and fault tolerance and provide good scalability as long as a single RDBMS can keep with the load, which should be OK for quite a while because most of the operations are done in the memory using a stateful bean and only occasionally stored or retrieved from the DB and the amount of data is low too. A problematic part could be the dependency on the remote inventory system webservice but with good caching of its outputs in the application it should be OK too. Unfortunately I've only vague idea of the system resources (memory size, number and speed of CPUs/cores) that such an "average Java EE application" for few hundred users needs. My rough and mostly unfounded estimate based on actual Amazon offerings is that 1.7GB and a single, 2-core "modern CPU" with speed around 2.5GHz (the High-CPU Medium Instance) should be sufficient for any of the two application servers (since we can handle higher load by provisioning more of them). Alternatively I would consider using the Large instance (64b, 7.5GB RAM, 2 cores at 1GHz) So my question is whether such a deployment to the cloud is technically and financially feasible or whether dedicated/VPS servers would be a better option and whether there are some real-world experiences with something similar. • SQL Server 2008 uses half the CPU’s

  I recently got my hands on a couple of 4 socket servers with Intel E7-4870's (10 cores per cpu) and with hyper threading enabled that gave me 80 logical CPU's. The server has Windows 2008 R2 SP1 along with SQL 2008 (Currently we can not deploy SQL 2008 R2 for the application being hosted). When SQL Server started I noticed only 2 NUMA nodes were configured and 40 logical cores where there should have been 4 NUMA nodes and 80 logical cores (see below).
