    I'm trying to simply send an email using my google apps account with php. I am able to send an email in a .net application using the port 587 host smtp.googlemail.com and SSL enabled.     Hello I have a setup of exim4 on domain1 in front of other server, domain2 (with sendmail). Second server have no direct access to internet, so domain1 is MX for domain2. And domain2 is set as hubbed_host in the exim4 on domain1. When spammer sends message for no_such_user@domain2, its sendmail do a reject: 550 5.1.1 <no_such_user@domain2>... User unknown Then, exim4 at domain1 do an auto-reply like this: This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: no_such_user@domain2 SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<no_such_user@domain2>: host 10.0.0.1 [10.0.0.1]: 550 5.1.1 <no_such_user@domain2>... User unknown The spammers uses fake "from" field, and such generated messages are frozen by exim for a long time. How can I disable some or all autoreplies from exim4? Ideally, I want a filter, if message was not delivered with error "User unknown" than don't generate any autoreply from mailer-daemon. Thanks!

  • SOGo installation on Mail Server

    We run a normal mail server on cPanel for web-based email. We've just got a request to add Calendar, address book, tasks functions; mobile capabilities (I'm guessing acces via a mobile client/app); public folders etc. On the client-side, we have some people using webmail, some use MS Outlook and some others use Mozilla Thunderbird. Having looked around, I zeroed in on SOGo, Citadel and kolab as options for this. I read through SOGo's official install guide and also checked here and here. However, I see most of the HowTo's ask installation of MySQL/PgSQL, LDAP, Samba etc. While I can manage installation of Samba (if required), I have no idea if installing LDAP, MySQL etc is really required. Also, any guidance as to how to install on a regular mail server would be appreciated. Sorry if this sounds vague. If any more information is required, I'll be happy to give it. Thanks in advance. Edit: This server in question has always been governed via cPanel (to install PHP, MySQL, configure DNS etc). So I am confused if really need LDAP.

    I asked this over on stackoverflow. They pointed me here. I would love to be able to test php webapps that require emailing registration info etc. on my mac. I downloaded a version of CommuniGate Pro. I need to mail either to an account inside or outside (whichever is best) of the localhost. Again this would be used for testing purposes to verify and debug my code prior to uploading to a hosting service. Any ideas, help and/or examples would be very much appreciated. If it would be easier I could go over to Windows XP. That would just mean setting up wamp and transfering my files over from the mac side via dropbox. I got the local mailserver to work so I can send emails between accounts. However, I cannot seem to get the php code to work. I know that I am missing something. I see where this has been asked before. I want to add that I am using xampp. In Mac OS 10.6.8.   • Setting up Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server as a mail exchange server

    I am a Unix/Linux/Windows Server noob. So, keep that in mind before you throw your stones at my glass house. :P I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine that's acting as domain controller, Server A. It's also running a DNS server. I have a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.3, Server B that is intended for mail server. In order for the mail delivery to happen, I understand that I have to set an MX record on Server A and point it to Server B. Well, I did. I manually added a host name on Server A and pointed to Server B's IP address. Then I added an MX record and pointed it to the host name. That didn't do the trick. After taking the above steps, I used the "dig" command on Server B to lookup the MX record coming back from Server A and it wasn't what I was expecting. What am I doing wrong here? I have noticed that... my Windows machines that are joined to the domain (Server A) are listed under the host names. The machines that are not joined to the domain are not list. This is fine, I am not worried about this. What does concern me, do I have to join the Server B to domain in order for Server A to recognize as a valid host and forward the MX properly? If so, some simple steps on how to join Server B to the domain would also help.

  • Using 1and1.com Servers, SMTP Mail is Limited - Local XAMPP Server Works As Expected

    I'm starting to not like 1and1.com that much. I've used them for years, but mainly for simple sites without much need for configuration. I know there are better hosting companies out and I may go seeking them. The problem here is that on my Local XAMPP server (sitting on a network with Comcast ISP), I have a PHP script that uses PEAR::Mail to send mail using MIME. The script works find locally with either smtp.1and1.com and corresponding credentials and smtp.gmail.com with corresponding credentials, using appropriate ports, etc. 1and1 tells me that I have to change the MX record on the domain where this script runs in order to make this work. This doesn't make sense to me. Now I'm pretty new to all this, but how is it that this is the case? Why can my local server work just fine, out of the box, but their servers not? I have asked them these questions, but they are very vague and I cannot get any good answers from them. Versions: PEAR Version: 1.5.0 PHP Version: 4.4.9 Zend Engine Version: 1.3.0 My apologies in advance for my ignorance. Thanks for the help in advance.

  • Excel - "send to Mail recipient" creates 2nd copy of EMail in Inbox

    When sending Excel sheets using the menu item "File" - "Sent To" - "Mail recipient (as attachment)" I get additional copies of the email in the Inbox. When I press "send" then I get 2 copies of the email in Outlook - as expected one in the Outbox (which moves into the Sent folder as soon it is sent off) and an additional one in the Inbox. How do I stop the copy message appearing in the Inbox? System: Excel 2000, Outlook 2000, Windows XP. Antivirus is AVG Free 2011. I know this is a very old system, but it is not my PC and there isn't any chance to get it replaced in the near future yet. SOme further details: The copy in the inbox appears at the same time as the normal copy goes into the Outbox (i.e. as soon I press send). It doesn't contain anything in the From field (i.e. there is no sender, just the recipient of the mail). It has a different icon in Outlook to the other emails - the icon is the one for "saved or unsent message". I tried it with a few different spreadsheets and it happens with all of them. It happens with every recipient, and it only happens if sending from within Excel (i.e. using the Send to menu item). I can delete the attachment before sending and it will still create a copy. If I create a new message in Outlook and then add the Excel document as attachment then I don't get the copy of the message in the inbox, it only happens when using the send to item in Excel. It only started doing this recently. Around that time the Antivirus (AVG Free) was upgraded to the latest version (from the previous version - 2010? - to version 2011), but this might not be related. I thought I know Excel really well but have never seen this happening before, and I can't find any setting in Excel or Outlook that is causing this. Any ideas?

    Hello I'm trying to substitute citadel on my Virtual Private Server with something more simple. I dislike their documentation and the webmail client. I don't need any groupware feature. I need only an MTA with a nice looking web interface, SPAM and VIRUS check. I recently found the lamson project from Zed Shaw. Is that production ready? Do you had any real and good experience with It? On the latest-news page I see that the last release dates december 2009. Sorry for my lack of knowledge, I'm really new to mail servers but I have to find a solution to manage sending and receiving mail on my VPS. I would accept also to build my VPS email server using a linux system like exim, postfix or whatever but I have really small needs and they will not grow in at least a year and i will be the only one user. I'm searching for something that I could build and manage easily, as I'm a novice linux sysadmin. Having also some good documentation or at least a robust step by step guide would be a plus.

  • Preferred mail system/server for a company?

    Say you are responsible for setting up an email solution at a company. Which would be your choice? I know of the following options, but many of them not well: Gordano Mail System Exchange Exim Postfix Qmail Zimbra For having used it a little over two years, I really, really like Gordano Mail System. They offer a whole bunch of things, like calendaring, anti-spam, anti-virus, extremely complete and filterable logging options, aliases, a customizable webmail interface... And their software can be installed on both a Windows or Linux OS. In addition, their support is top-notch, their knowledgebase comprehensive (and, I will admit with a touch of pride, I have contributed, with my questions, to the addition of a few articles in there). Of course, they're not free, which can be a problem, but they're not Exchange, and they do offer pretty much everything that Exchange offers -- which is great if you want to stay away from that, but need all the features. Although, if you need a Blackberry Exchange Server, or something similar, I'm not sure what you should go for. So.. What would your choice be? Why? I've never played with a more DIY email solution, but I'm sure many people here have and wouldn't trade their setup for the world :)

  • I want my logs sent to my mail with logrotate

    Not strictly a question about programming as such, more of a log handling question. Anyway. My company has multiple clients, and each of these clients have a set of logs that I'd rather much want to get sent to by e-mail to me. Now, another prerequisite is that they're hilighted by simple HTML. All that is very well, I've managed to make a hilighter for the given log types. So, what I do is I use logrotate's prerotate stuff to send the logs as an e-mail message. Example: /var/log/a.log /var/log/b.log { daily missingok copytruncate prerotate /usr/bin/python /home/foo/hilight_logs /var/log/{a,b}.log | /usr/sbin/sendmail -FLog\ mailer [email protected] [email protected] endscript } The problem with this approach is basically that logrotate sucks: it'll run the command for every log file specified in the specifier, and to my knowledge there's no way to know which of the log files is being handled. (Which wouldn't really help anyway.) Short of repeating the exact same logrotate up to 10 times on different machines, the only thing I can do is just to get bogged down with log spam every night. And I grew tired of it today, so I ask.

  • Is it possible to dynamically adjust the priority of outgoing emails?

    This is more of a theoretical question, but is it possible to dynamically, and on an ongoing basis, adjust the priority of emails in the mail queue? For example, for all mail, set it's priority (p) to 1 (meaning send immediately). If N emails in the last M share similar or identical content, adjust the priority of this email such that it's priority is in the range [0..1] so that p is equal to 1 - N/M and other email can get sent before the similar/identical stuff. Or, if you have another idea or standard what is it? Some background: Someone put a mail() call in an infinite loop... And now we have to wait for the mail queue to catch up before anyone can send or receive mail again.

  • Postfix relay all mail through SES except for one sending domain / address

    I'm thinking this is really really super simple, but I can't figure out what I need to do. I don't mess with Postfix much (Just let it run and do its thing) so I've got no idea where to even start with this. We have postfix currently configured to relay all mail out through SES using the code below. We need to modify this so that emails sent from one of our domains (domain.com) DO NOT go through SES. Everything else should continue to flow out through the SES connection. I'm assuming this is like a one line thing but my google skills are not helping me at all. relayhost = email-smtp.us-east-1.amazonaws.com:25 smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd smtp_use_tls = yes smtp_tls_security_level = encrypt smtp_tls_note_starttls_offer = yes smtp_tls_CAfile = /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt smtp_destination_concurrency_limit = 450 Update I have created sender_transport file in /etc/postfix. In it is @domain.com smtp: I then ran this through postmap and placed sender_dependent_default_transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sender_transport above the above block of code and restarted postfix, but still all email is going out through SES.   • Convert raw IMAP server data into local folders, then upload partial dataset to new IMAP server?

    I am transitioning a company with about 30 IMAP accounts, loaded with data (about 77GB total), to a new email host. The majority of the data will be converted into a local archive and distributed to the company computers as a static reference data set. The server side folders the users absolutely cannot do without being on the server will be uploaded back to the new server. I used Mac OS X Mail (Snow Leopard 10.6.6) to download the content. I notice some messages have the name [xxx].partial.emlx, which leads me to believe they have not been downloaded all the way. I have root access to the mail server data and could download the IMAP server data via FTP. I am not sure what utility to use to convert that data to local Mail.app mailboxes. Furthermore, I would appreciate any input on the best way to upload a portion of the data to the new server (GoDaddy), preserving the original dates of the messages. edit OK - forget the raw server data. I found a script that apparently does pretty good archiving IMAP folders to local mbx files. My main quest now is to batch upload a mailbox hierarchy to the new IMAP server without having to start-stop and deal with similar issues. Anyone know of a utility (hopefully for OS X, but if not, I'll fire up my XP virtual system...) that would be capable of this? Thanks, M

    Thunderbird does not delete messages from the POP server. I am a Yahoo Plus user and I can download messages from the inbox in Thunderbird from the Yahoo POP3 server. However, I want to delete read messages directly on the email client rather than go to Yahoo mail. OK, boys and girls, here is the way to do it. Go to Options- Advanced - Config Editor find the Name 'mail . pop3 . deleteFromServerOnMove' Set it to True True: Delete the copy of the message on the POP3 server if you move or delete the message. False(default): Only delete the copy of the message on the POP3 server if you delete the message. That's it, restart Thunderbird. You need to press 'Get Mail' everytime you want to sync with the email server, in order for you to make sure messages in the application is in sync with the email server.**
