  Using Microsoft Spy++, I can see that the following windows that belong to a process: Process XYZ window handles, displayed in tree form just like Spy++ gives me: A B C D E F G H I J K I can get the process, and the MainWindowHandle property points to the handle for window F. If I enumerate the child windows using I can get a list of window handles for G through K, but I can't figure out how to find the window handles for A through D. How can I enumerate windows that are not children of the handle specified by MainWindowHandle of the Process object? • Find what unknown function does in C using gdb

  Hi, I have a function m(int i, char c) which takes and returns a char between "-abc...xyz" and also takes an integer i. Basically I have no way to see the source code of the function but can call it and get the return value. Using gdb/C, what's the best way to decipher what the function actually does? I've tried looking for patterns using consecutive chars and integer inputs but have come up with nothing yet.   I am building certain GUI in C# for a content manager and looking for the tools or code snippets or open libraries ( code ideally in C# ) which allow me the following : 1. For table A in database X (test ) and table A in database Y (production) and for a simple filter ( e.g. listname = "XYZ" ) I need to show additions/deletions/updates in some way. which might be side-by-side or just 2 record added table with some fields 2 record deleted table with some fields Considering that this task is very common, I guess, certain components should exist ? Components either return some collections from parameters given for further visualizing or just produce for e.g. html report. 2. I need to push changes for the filter I mentioned in 1 and update table in production database for this filter only ( ie for the particular list approved by content person). Again probably there are certain SQL code generators - components in addition to diffs or standalone.

• PerformanceCounterCategory.Exists is very slow if category doesn't exists

  I have kind of library which uses a bunch of its own perf counters. But I want my library works fine even if that perf counters weren't installed. So I've created wrappers aroung PerformanceCounter and on the first use check if PerfCounter exists or not. If they exists then I'm using native PerformanceCounter instead I'm using a wrapper which do nothing. So to check perf counter existence I use PerformanceCounterCategory.Exists The problem is that if there isn't such category then PerformanceCounterCategory.Exists call takes (on my machine) about 10 seconds! Needless to say it's too slow. What can I do?   i wonder why backspace character in common linux terminals does not actually erase the characters, when printed (which normally works when typed).. this works as expected: $ echo -e "abc\b\b\bxyz" xyz (\b evaluates to backspace, can be inserted also as ctrl-v ctrl-h - rendered as ^H (0x08)) but when there are less characters after the backspaces, the strange behavior is revealed: $ echo -e "abc\b\b\bx" xbc is behaves like left arrow keys instead of backspace: $ echo -e "abc\e[D\e[D\e[Dx" xbc erase line back works normally: $ echo -e "abc\e[1Kx" x in fact, when i type ctrl-v <BS> in terminal, ^? (0x7f) is yielded instead of ^H, this is DEL ascii character, but ctrl-v <DEL> produces <ESC>[3~, but it is another story.. so can someone explain why printed backspace character does not erase the characters? (my environment it xterm linux and some other terminal emulators, $TERM == xterm, tried vt100, linux as well)

• Subversion: svn protocol with HTTP/HTTPS proxy

  Hi all, I need to do a svn checkout,say svn checkout svn://XYZ.com/trunk. I am using the svn client from behind the proxy. I had accessed other repositries using the http protocol in past but with svn protocol,it fails with "Connection Refused", reason I think being the port not allowed by the proxy.Nonetheless, the HTTP protocol is not supported on the server. However, svn+ssh gets connected but it prompts for an account at that server which I don't have? Is there any way out other than requesting for an account? Note that I can't affect the settings of the proxy server.

  I need to store some data that looks a little like this: xyz 123 abc 456 hij 678 rer 838 Now I would just store it as a traditional string and integer model, and put in the datastore. But the data changes regularly, and is ONLY relevant when looked at as a COLLECTION. So it needs to be store as either a list of lists, or a list of objects, both of which can't really be done without pickling as far as I know. Can anyone help? Even storing it as a text file may work :S

  There are lots of questions about how to force the browser to cache or not to cache any image. But, I am facing slightly different situation. In several places of my web page, I am using following code for the images. <img title="<%= Html.Encode(Model.title)%>" src="<%= Url.Action(MVC.FrontEnd.Actions.RetrieveImage(Model.SystemId))%>"/> So, in the generated HTML it is like <img title="blahblah" src="http://xyz.com/FrontEnd/Actions/RetrieveImage?imageId=X"> Where X is some integer. I have seen that though the browser (IE or Mozilla) caches images by default, it is not caching images generated by above method. Is there any way I can tell browser to cache images of above type?   I have been playing around with php-gtk recently and in the past I have experimented with Java to make GUI 'hello world' apps. However both these types of applications have had a bit of a clunky (almost childish) look and feel to them. I cannot deny that they are handy for making apps for in-house use (and I totally respect the amount of community effort that goes into these projects). But I would not necessarily be proud to sell it as a commercial application with a price tag of, say, £450 or £1,000. If I wanted to make an application that had the look and feel of, say, Firefox for Windows, or Adobe xyz, what GUI/language should I use? Is the 'professional sheen' or smart look and feel down to the designer or is it the case that, no matter how good a designer is, picking the right GUI framework is essential to get that look?

  What Unix program generates "diff"s between text files (or INSERT/UPDATE/DELETEs for databases) in such a way that the order that the "diff"s are applied in is irrelevant, and the result is the same regardless of order. Etherpad used to do something like this. Example (for a given document or database): % Adam makes a change X, then Bob makes a change Y, then Adam makes another change Z. % However, because of network latency, Adam sees the changes in this order: XZY, while Bob sees them in this order: YXZ. % However, the code/changes are written so that XYZ and YXZ yield the same result. Note: ideally, this can be done without having to do X/Y/Z inverse at any point.   I have a directory /tmp/dir with two types of file names /tmp/dir/abc-something-server.log /tmp/dir/xyz-something-server.log .. .. and /tmp/dir/something-client.log I need append a few lines (these lines are constant) to files end with "client.log" line 1 line 2 line 3 line 4 append these four lines to files end with "client.log" and For files end with "server.log" I needed to append after a keyword say "After-this". "server.log " file has multiple entries of "After-this" I need to find the first entry of "After-this" and append above said four lines keep the remaining file as it is. • Prototype Ajax.Updater Response OK, but not showing up in FF. working in Safari!

  Hi, I've got a quite strange problem here. I'm calling some simple code via Ajax.Updater: new Ajax.Updater('load','http://myurl.com/demo.pl?key=demokey&param1=xyz&param2=abc',{ method:'get', onComplete:function(transport){ alert(transport.responseText) } }); which gets some code like this: <img id="2009_04_15_1239786246" src='../pv/100/2009_04_15_1239786246-01.jpg' border="1"> <img id="2009_04_15_1239786066" src='../pv/100/2009_04_15_1239786066-01.jpg' border="1"> ... and so on This code shows up in my firebug console as my server response, so everything should be fine. No errors here at all. Works fine in Safari. Firefox, according to Firebug, knows there is a response, but it won't show a thing in my div 'load' and the alert(transport.responseText) is also empty. I have no idea what could be the problem here.

E.g. if debug don't compress XYZ.JS or don't minify ABC.CSS Caching In the end, it should help offer the best YSLOW score. If you know of any other assemblies out there, please list them also.

• Documents/links on preventing HTML form fiddling?

  Hi everyone, I'm using ASP.Net but my question is a little more general than that. I'm interested in reading about strategies to prevent users from fooling with their HTML form values and links in an attempt to update records that don't belong to them. For instance, if my application dealt with used cars and had links to add/remove inventory, which included as part of the URL the userid, what can I do to intercept attempts to munge the link and put someone else's ID in there? In this limited instance I can always run a check at the server to ensure that userid XYZ actually has rights to car ABC, but I was curious what other strategies are out there to keep the clever at bay. (Doing a checksum of the page, perhaps? Not sure.) Thanks for your input.
