  • converting Date object to TimeWithZone

    - by avaynshtok
    I need to convert a Date object into a TimeWithZone object representing the beginning of that day in a given time zone. The following approach works, but seems too convoluted as it requires me to convert the date to a string: ?> date = Date.parse("2010-02-17") => Wed, 17 Feb 2010 >> ActiveSupport::TimeZone['Eastern Time (US & Canada)'].parse(date.to_s) => Wed, 17 Feb 2010 00:00:00 EST -05:00 >> ActiveSupport::TimeZone['UTC'].parse(date.to_s) => Wed, 17 Feb 2010 00:00:00 UTC 00:00 Is there a better way I'm missing?

  • Storing date and time as epoch vs native datetime format in the database

    - by zakovyrya
    For most of my tasks I find it much easier to work with date and time in the epoch format: it's trivial to calculate timespan or determine if some event happened before or after another, I don't have to deal with time-zone issues if the data comes from different geographical sources, in case of scripting languages what I usually get from database when I request a datetime-typed column is a string that I need to parse in order to work with it. This list can go on, but for me in order to keep my code portable that's enough to ditch database's native datetime format and store date and time as integer. What do you guys think?

  • Different NSTimeZone names being returned

    - by Michael Waterfall
    I've noticed that on some devices the NSTimeZone's name method for a particular timezone can return different values. When testing the Brisbane time zone, my device returns @"Australia/Brisbane" whereas another user's device returns "Etc/GMT-10". Both iPhone's are running 3.1.2. The Date and Time Programming Guide for Cocoa states that: timeZoneWithName: The name passed to this method may be in any of the formats understood by the system, for example EST, Etc/GMT-2, America/Argentina/Buenos_Aires, Europe/Monaco, or US/Pacific, as shown in the following code fragment. I'd just like to know what could determine which value is used? The device? The language?

  • Sqlite: CURRENT_TIMESTAMP is in GMT, not the timezone of the machine

    - by BrianH
    I have a sqlite (v3) table with this column definition: "timestamp" DATETIME DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP The server that this database lives on is in the CST time zone. When I insert into my table without including the timestamp column, sqlite automatically populates that field with the current timestamp in GMT, not CST. Is there a way to modify my insert statement to force the stored timestamp to be in CST? On the other hand, it is probably better to store it in GMT (in case the database gets moved to a different timezone, for example), so is there a way I can modify my select SQL to convert the stored timestamp to CST when I extract it from the table? Thanks in advance!

  • taskbar-free window manager

    - by 7vies
    I'm looking for a window manager that is not based on the "standard" taskbar (which I find a poor idea and I'm completely tired of). I'm aware of tiling window managers and improvements in last versions of operating systems, but I can't find what I need. I suppose that any window takes the whole screen (or can be tiled), and I imagine switching between windows like that: on a hotkey or mouse hot zone the screen becomes a task switcher where tasks are organized in a somewhat convenient manner. Well, it's a bit like a taskbar with autohide, but I think there could be some more convenient ideas than simply stacking icons and descriptions... It is also supposed to be lightweight enough, for example to run on a netbook. Any suggestions?

  • Algorithm: How to tell if an array is a permutation in O(n)?

    - by Iulian Serbanoiu
    Hello, Input: A read-only array of N elements containing integer values from 1 to N. And a memory zone of a fixed size (10, 100, 1000 etc - not depending on N). How to tell in O(n) if the array represents a permutation? --What I achieved so far:-- I use the limited memory area to store the sum and the product of the array. I compare the sum with N*(N+1)/2 and the product with N! I know that if condition (2) is true I might have a permutation. I'm wondering if there's a way to prove that condition (2) is sufficient to tell if I have a permutation. So far I haven't figured this out ... Thanks, Iulian

  • Repeating Group Messages in Quickfix C++

    - by Mark Jackson
    We cannot seem to process some group messages with QuickFix. I am trying to set up a connection with the ICE exchange using QuickFix (C++). I have created a custom data dictionary to handle ICE's non-standard messages. The first message to handle is a SecurityDefinition. The message contains about 13000 entries broken into blocks of 100. I attached the message below (the first two entries with CR/LF added for clarity). My question is in the data dictionary, I defined a group as part of the entry with all the fields they specify in the group. Yet the message is rejected before it gets to the cracker as having an invalid tag (tag = 305). Message 2 Rejected: Tag not defined for this message type:305 Does this dictionary entry look correct. Is there any documentation anywhere on how to handle group messages? Dictionary entry <message name='SecurityDefinition' msgcat='app' msgtype='d'> <field name='SecurityResponseID' required='Y' /> <field name='SecurityResponseType' required='Y' /> <field name='SecurityReqID' required='Y' /> <field name='TotNoRelatedSym' required='N' /> <field name='NoRpts' required='N' /> <field name='ListSeqNo' required='N' /> <group name='NoUnderlyings' required='N'> <field name='UnderlyingSymbol' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingSecurityID' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingSecurityIDSource' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingCFICode' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingSecurityDesc' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingMaturityDate' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingContractMultiplier' required='N' /> <field name='IncrementPrice' required='N' /> <field name='IncrementQty' required='N' /> <field name='LotSize' required='N' /> <field name='NumofCycles' required='N' /> <field name='LotSizeMultiplier' required='N' /> <field name='Clearable' required='N' /> <field name='StripId' required='N' /> <field name='StripType' required='N' /> <field name='StripName' required='N' /> <field name='HubId' required='N' /> <field name='HubName' required='N' /> <field name='HubAlias' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingUnitOfMeasure' required='N' /> <field name='PriceDenomination' required='N' /> <field name='PriceUnit' required='N' /> <field name='Granularity' required='N' /> <field name='NumOfDecimalPrice' required='N' /> <field name='NumOfDecimalQty' required='N' /> <field name='ProductId' required='N' /> <field name='ProductName' required='N' /> <field name='ProductDescription' required='N' /> <field name='TickValue' required='N' /> <field name='ImpliedType' required='N' /> <field name='PrimaryLegSymbol' required='N' /> <field name='SecondaryLegSymbol' required='N' /> <field name='IncrementStrike' required='N' /> <field name='MinStrike' required='N' /> <field name='MaxStrike' required='N' /> </group> </message> The actual message is 8=FIX.4.49=5004335=d49=ICE34=252=20121017-00:39:41.38556=600357=23322=3924323=4320=1393=1310382=13267=1711=100 311=1705282309=TEB SMG0013-TFL SMG0013305=8463=FXXXXX307=NG Basis Futures Spr - TETCO-ELA/TGP-500L - Feb13542=20130131436=1.09013=0.00059014=2500.09017=25009022=289024=19025=Y916=20130201917=201302289201=11969200=129202=Feb139300=60589301=Texas Eastern Transmission Corp. - East Louisiana Zone/Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. - Zone L, 500 Leg Pool9302=TETCO-ELA/TGP-500L998=MMBtus9100=USD9101=USD / MMBtu9085=daily9083=49084=09061=4909062=NG Basis Futures Spr9063=Natural Gas Basis Futures Spread9032=1.259004=17051939005=1353778 311=1714677309=PGE SQF0014.H0014-SCB SQF0014.H0014305=8463=FXXXXX307=NG Basis Futures Spr - PG&E-Citygate/Socal-Citygate - Q1 14542=20131231436=1.09013=0.00059014=2500.09017=25009022=909024=19025=Y916=20140101917=201403319201=12339200=159202=Q1 149300=59979301=PG&E - Citygate/Socal - Citygate9302=PG&E-Citygate/Socal-Citygate998=MMBtus9100=USD9101=USD / MMBtu9085=daily9083=49084=09061=4909062=NG Basis Futures Spr9063=Natural Gas Basis Futures Spread9032=1.259004=13430529005=1344660

  • Excel Question: I need a date and time formula to convert between time zones

    - by Harold Nottingham
    Hello, I am trying to find a way to calculate a duration in days between my, time zone (Central), and (Pacific; Mountain; Eastern). Just do not know where to start. My criteria would be as follows: Cell C5:C100 would be the timestamps in this format:3/18/2010 23:45 but for different dates and times. Cell D5:D100 would be the corresponding timezone in text form: Pacific; Mountain; Eastern; Central. Cell F5 would be where the duration in days would need to be. Just not sure how to write the formula to give me what I am looking for. I appreciate any assistance in advance. Thanks

  • How Can I Automatically Execute A Link In Internet Explorer

    - by Martin
    I am trying to create an application to print documents over the web. I have created my document, and made a web page with a meta refresh tag, along the lines of this: <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="3;http://example.com/download.epl2" /> I specify that the document has a content-type of application/x-epl2, and I have associated .epl2 files on my computer with a program that silently sends them to the printer. I have put the website into my trusted sites zone. Currently Internet Explorer pops up the "Open, Save, Cancel" dialog box with no option to automatically open the file. Is there a setting in IE6/7/8 that I can use to have IE just open the file without prompting?

  • Sign in as different user when using Integrated Windows Authentication

    - by Sam
    I have restricted access to a site by using Integrated Windows Authentication and turning off anonymous access. This way I can then show them their real name (from looking up on Active Directory and using the server variable LOGON_USER) and do other related Active Directory tasks. How can I then prompt again for their user credentials, through a 'sign in as other user' link , showing the browser prompt (like you would get on a browser like Chrome or Firefox, or if the site was not in the 'Intranet' zone in IE) rather than a Web Form? Since SharePoint offers this functionality, I assume there is a way to do this through code, but I don't know what code can do this (using C#). I can send a 401 header which makes the prompt appear, but how do you then confirm if they are logged in?

  • Wunderground and UTC Offset

    - by Brandon
    I am consuming the international weather forecasts via Wunderground's XML API: http://wiki.wunderground.com/index.php/API_-_XML Looking at an output for Kabul, Afghanistan for instance: http://api.wunderground.com/auto/wui/geo/ForecastXML/index.xml?query=OAKB I notice that there is no UTC offset. The closest that I can see is this: <tz_short>AFT</tz_short> Which identifies the current TimeZone is AFT. The problem I see is that there is no universally accepted time zone abbreviations, so I cannot take these abbreviations and look up and offset from C#'s TimeZoneInfo objects. Is there a listing of Wunderground's Time Zones abbreviations/names/offsets so I can map their Time Zones to the TimeZoneInfo objects, or is there a better way to get this information? I will need to use the TimeZoneInfo so I can calculate daylight savings time for different locations internationally.

  • How to avoid timestamp issue in a long query?

    - by pingi
    Hi, I have the following 2 tables: items: id int primary key bla text events: id_items int num int when timestamp without time zone ble text composite primary key: id_items, num and want to select to each item the most recent event (the newest 'when'). I wrote an request, but I don't know if it could be written more efficiently. Also on PostgreSQL there is a issue with comparing Timestamp objects: 2010-05-08T10:00:00.123 == 2010-05-08T10:00:00.321 so I select with 'MAX(num)' Any thoughts how to make it better? Thanks. SELECT i.*, ea.* FROM items AS i JOIN ( SELECT t.s AS t_s, t.c AS t_c, max(e.num) AS o FROM events AS e JOIN ( SELECT DISTINCT id_item AS s, MAX(when) AS c FROM events GROUP BY s ORDER BY c ) AS t ON t.s = e.id_item AND e.when = t.c GROUP BY t.s, t.c ) AS tt ON tt.t_s = i.id JOIN events AS ea ON ea.id_item = tt.t_s AND ea.cas = tt.t_c AND ea.num = tt.o;

  • Google maps spatial reference system

    - by JavaRocky
    What is Google map's spatial reference system using when you enter a lat, long into the maps search bar? I've found hints that it might be WGS84 but after converting to that coordinate system, nothing shows up when i paste the coordinates into the google maps search box. I am converting from GDA MGA 56. Sample: Input MGA56 coords: 336301, 6253363 Expected WGS86 coords: -33.8473340793201, 151.230631835944 I get: 16834916.928327594 -4008321.1020318186 Spatial coord systems: EPSG:28356 for MGA56 EPSG:900913 for WGS86 (google maps) I am using geotools to do the transform: CoordinateReferenceSystem crsMga56 = CRS.parseWKT(mga56); CoordinateReferenceSystem crsGmaps = CRS.parseWKT(gmaps); Coordinate coordinate = new Coordinate(336301, 6253363); Point point = new GeometryFactory().createPoint(coordinate); MathTransform transform = CRS.findMathTransform(crsMga56, crsGmaps); Geometry geometry = JTS.transform(point, transform); I know the transform is not correct, as when i use an online tool it gives me the correct coords. http://www.environment.gov.au/cgi-bin/transform/mga2geo%5Fgda.pl?east=336301&north=6253363&zone=56

  • Building a professional company website

    - by Sphynx
    Hi fellows, I want to create a professional website for my company. I'm not a designer. I know some html/css, but I don't have much experience making up advanced pages and layouts. I'd expect public area, with various articles, and a "customer zone", accessible via username and password, where clients will be able to track their orders and download files. It needs to look very modern. I don't want to use website templates, because they're too simple. I know some Wordpress, but that's mostly for blogs, and anyways you need to find a right theme besides the CMS itself... Is there any alternative solution, some kind of framework for building such portals? Preferably a system that doesn't require designer skills. Thanks!

  • IHTMLTxtRange.execCommand("Copy",false,null) fails due to IE settings

    - by srirambalaji-s
    We have a .Net application that is used for editing/rendering customized HTML documents. It is hosted in IE using the AxSHDocVw.AxWebBrowser controls. We proceed with navigating to "about:blank" page initially then we change the Document by writing our custom values into it. The problem we are facing is the call to IHTMLTxtRange.execCommand("Copy",false,null) is failing if we don't enable the IE Security Settings in the Internet Security zone (Scripting-Allow Programmatic Access to Clipboard ). In order to bypass the security setting ,I tried to point to a local html file initially while navigating. But this fails as soon as I modify the Document. I want to use the IHTMLTxtRange.execCommand("Copy",false,null) command so that I can customize our Copy/Paste operations. Is there any other way I can do this. Please share your ideas inorder to overcome this situation. Thanks. Sriram

  • Dojo slider: update value dynamically

    - by xApple
    I am building an application where the user browses certain objects by scrolling and zooming. To change the zoom level I have successfully implemented a "dijit.form.HorizontalSlider" object. Every time the user changes the position of the silder, I can catch the "onChange" call and do something with that. However, the user can also zoom-in by double clicking inside the view zone, at which point the slider should change position automatically to reflect the new zoom level. My question is the following: what function or method should I call in my javascript to update the position of a dojo silder ? Here is the code that creates the silder object: var zoomSlider = new dijit.form.HorizontalSlider({ name: "zoom_slider", id: "zoom_slider", value: 0, minimum: 0, maximum: 19, discreteValues: 20, intermediateChanges: false, style: "width: 160px;", onChange: function(value) { brwsr.view.zoomTo(value); } }, "zoom_slider"); navbox_silder.appendChild(zoomSlider.domNode);

  • In java getting different value for TimeZone.getDefault().getID() on different system

    - by Deepak Chaudhry
    I am getting different value for TimeZone.getDefault().getID() on different systems. For example, in case of Indian standard time, On one of the system we are getting "GMT+5:30": while on another we are getting "Asia/Calcutta". We are expected to get "Asia/calcutta" strings on all machines. Why is there an inconsistency for such behavior? Is there any way to get consistent behavior across different systems windows/MAC? What is the best way to get client time zone programmatically using Java?

  • Best evidence to offer a sandboxed appdomain for a C# evaluator.

    - by scope-creep
    I have a c# evaluator which uses the (I think) the .Net 4 new simplified sandboxed appdomain model to host the c# assembly, with remoting doing the rest. The call to create the appdomain is Evidence ev = new Evidence(); ev.AddHostEvidence(new Zone(SecurityZone.Trusted)); PermissionSet pset = SecurityManager.GetStandardSandbox(ev); AppDomainSetup ads = new AppDomainSetup(); ads.ApplicationBase = "C:\\Sandbox"; // Create the sandboxed domain. AppDomain sandbox = AppDomain.CreateDomain( "Sandboxed Domain", ev, ads, pset, null); The c# eval is embedded in a server app, but I don't want give the sandbox to much control unless it bo bo's the caller. What i'm looking for is regarding some clarification as to what to provide as Evidence from the caller. I'm looking for advice and guidance. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Meaning of tA tC and tP

    - by Greg Wiley
    If this is a duplicate I appoligize, but looking for two-letter strings is quite hard in any search. I'm looking for the meaning of tA tC and tP in the context of a mysql query. And in the spirit of "teaching a man how to fish" it would be great if you could point me in the right direction of where to find this info in the future. Edit: The Query $wpdb->get_row($wpdb->prepare("SELECT tA.* FROM ".AMYLITE_ADS." tA, ".AMYLITE_ADS_CAMPAIGNS." tC, ".AMYLITE_PACKAGES." tP WHERE tA.id=tC.ad_id AND tC.campaign_id=tP.campaign_id AND tP.zone_id=%d AND tP.date_end>CURDATE() GROUP BY tA.id ORDER BY RAND()", $zone->id));

Pandas is returning the DataFrame properly but the underlying timestamp column in my database is being returned as a generic "object" type in Pandas. • Problem with running a program from flashdrive

    - by rajivpradeep
    I have a USB drive with two partitions in it, one hidden and one normal. I have an application which swaps the memory and runs the flash application in hidden zone. The problem is that the application works fine on Windows 7 and when run on Win XP, it swaps the partitions but doesn't run the flash applications but just keeps running in the background. I can see it in task manager. But, when I copy the application to desktop and run, it runs with no glitch. I was facing the same problem on Win 7 too, but it was running as required when I ran it using "Run in XP mode" and then I applied a SHIM and is running since then as required. The application is built using VC++ 2008. What might be the problem?

  • Storing datetime in database?

    - by Curtis White
    I'm working on a blog and want to show my posts in eastern time zone. i figured that storing everything UTC would be the proper way. This creates a few challenges though: I have to convert all times from UTC to Eastern. This is not a biggie but adds a lot of code. And the "biggie" is that I use a short-date time to reference the posts by passing in a query, ala blogger. The problem is that there is no way to convert the short date time to the proper UTC date because I'm lacking the posted time info. Hmm, any problem to just storing all dates in eastern time? This would certainly make it easier for the rest of the application but if I needed to change time zones everything would be stored wrong.

  • Overcoming Inertia - How to Just Get Going on Stuff

    - by kronoz
    I wondered whether you guys could help me - I have a big problem with overcoming inertia, i.e. how to just get started on a project/work when you simply feel the inertia of not being in the right 'zone' to do work such that it really becomes pretty damn tough to actually get on with what you want to do. Forgive me quoting my blog post where I try to express the problem as best I can:- The problem is that it feels so damned difficult to exert the force required to shift from one mode to another, so much so that you find it almost inconceivable to do so at the time. You need to force yourself somehow, or at least find some sort of hack to trick yourself into it. Do you guys have any ideas/hacks as to how to overcome this? Thanks in advance, and hopefully the community feel this question is valid for stack overflow (I have set it community wiki due to its fairly subjective nature.)
