  • Custom Class to store the properties and passing the class object across the pages - ASP.NEt

    Hello I've a requirement where i need to pass some objects across the pages. So i created a custom class with all the properties required and created a instance of it and assigned all the properties appropriately. I then put that object in the session and took it the other page. The problem is that even when i set the properties values to the class it is coming as null. I set a breakpoint in the getter-setter and saw that the value itself is coming as null.   • Accessing different connection strings at runtime in ASP.NET MVC 1

    I'm trying to implement integration testing in my ASP.NET MVC 1.0 solution. The technologies in use are LINQ-to-SQL, NUnit and WatiN. I recently discovered a pattern that will allow me to create a testing version of the database on the fly without modifying the development version of the database. I needed this behavior in order to run my user interface tests in WatiN that may modify the database. The plan is to modify the connection string in the Web.config file, and pass that new connection string to the DataContext constructor. This way, I don't have to add routes or modify my URLs in order to perform the integration testing. I've set up the project so that the test setup can modify the connection string to point to the test database when the tests are running. The connection string is stored in web.config. The problem I'm having is that when I try to run the tests, I get a NullReferenceException when trying to access the HTTPContext. From everything that I have read so far, the HTTPContext is only available within the context of a controller. Here is the code for the property that is supposed to give me the reference to the Web.config file: private System.Configuration.Configuration WebConfig { get { ExeConfigurationFileMap fileMap = new ExeConfigurationFileMap(); // NullReferenceException occurs on this line. fileMap.ExeConfigFilename = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~\\web.config"); System.Configuration.Configuration config = ConfigurationManager.OpenMappedExeConfiguration(fileMap, ConfigurationUserLevel.None); return config; } } Is there something that I am missing in order to make this work? Is there a better way to accomplish what I'm trying to achieve? UPDATE: I decided to abandon the modification of Web.config in lieu of a "request-scoped DataContext" pattern that I found here. From the looks of it, I believe it should give me the results I'm looking for. However, during the TextFixtureSetUp, I try to create a new copy of the database for testing purposes, and it fails silently. When I get to the tests, the repository still uses the production database connection string to load data.

  • Turning off ASP.Net WebForms authentication for one sub-directory

    I have a large enterprise application containing both WebForms and MVC pages. It has existing authentication and authorisation settings that I don't want to change. The WebForms authentication is configured in the web.config: <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms blah... blah... blah /> </authentication> <authorization> <deny users="?" /> </authorization> Fairly standard so far. I have a REST service that is part of this big application and I want to use HTTP authentication instead for this one service. So, when a user attempts to get JSON data from the REST service it returns an HTTP 401 status and a WWW-Authenticate header. If they respond with a correctly formed HTTP Authorization response it lets them in. The problem is that WebForms overrides this at a low level - if you return 401 (Unauthorised) it overrides that with a 302 (redirection to login page). That's fine in the browser but useless for a REST service. I want to turn off the authentication setting in the web.config: <location path="rest"> <system.web> <authentication mode="None" /> <authorization><allow users="?" /></authorization> </system.web> </location> The authorisation bit works fine, but when I try to change the authentication I get an exception: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. I'm configuring this at application level though - it's in the root web.config How do I override the authentication so that all of the rest of the site uses WebForms authentication and this one directory uses none? This is similar to another question: 401 response code for json requests with ASP.NET MVC, but I'm not looking for the same solution - I don't want to just remove the WebForms authentication and add new custom code globally, there's far to much risk and work involved. I want to change just the one directory in configuration.

But when posting, something happens, and my model is considered invalid, and it cannot insert.     How can I gain access to Core Data objects from Javascript/WebKit on Mac OS X? I've made custom subclasses of NSManagedObject for each of my tables, with accessors defined using @property/@dynamic for each attribute, but neither isSelectorExcludedFromWebScript: or isKeyExcludedFromWebScript: is called for any of them, so Javascript just stops when I try to access any of the attributes. It returns 'undefined' if I access it as a property (eg business.name ) and javascript execution stops if I access it as a function (eg business.name() ).

    I'm trying out asp.net mvc for a new project, and I ran across something odd. When I use the MVC UI helpers for textboxes, the values get persisted between calls. But, when I use a series of radio buttons, the checked state doesn't get persisted. Here's an example from my view. <li> <%=Html.RadioButton("providerType","1")%><label>Hospital</label> <%=Html.RadioButton("providerType","2")%><label>Facility</label> <%=Html.RadioButton("providerType","3")%><label>Physician</label> </li> When the form gets posted back, I build up an object with "ProviderType" as one of it's properties. The value on the object is getting set, and then I RedirectToAction with the provider as a argument. All is well, and I end up at a URL like "http://localhost/Provider/List?ProviderType=1" with ProviderType showing. The value gets persisted to the URL, but the UI helper isn't picking up the checked state. I'm having this problem with listbox, dropdownlist, and radiobutton. Textboxes pick up the values just fine. Do you see something I'm doing wrong? I'm assuming that the helpers will do this for me, but maybe I'll just have to take care of this on my own. I'm just feeling my way through this, so your input is appreciated. Edit: I just found the override for the SelectList constructor that takes a selected value. That took care of my dropdown issue I mentioned above. Edit #2: I found something that works, but it pains me to do it this way.     With Twitter turning off the API 1.0 faucet on 6/11/2013, we have several sites that now fail to display timelines. I've been looking for an "If you did that, now do this" example. I don't have 4 or 5 hours to delve into that, or into this disheveled FAQ (https://dev.twitter.com/docs/faq#17750). Then I found this API documentation regarding the user timeline. So I changed the URL again as shown below. https://dev.twitter.com/docs/api/1.1/get/statuses/user_timeline <script type="text/javascript" src="https://api.twitter.com/1.1/statuses/user_timeline.json?screen_name=companytwitterhandle&amp;count=1"></script> That did not work. Using jQuery or C# ASP.NET MVC, how can I transition that interface from Twitter API 1.0 to Twitter API 1.1? My first preference would be for a browser client side implementation if that is possible. When grid is rendered it loads very first page on the screen and then there are number of pages in the grid header. I scrap first page, and now i want to move on to the next page. I know there is a trick to navigate through the grid pages. I used it but it did not work on this page. the trick is, you can pass __EVENTTARGET and __EVENTARGUMENT in query string to navigate through the gird but it does not work on this website. I am desperately searching a way, how to cope with this website. i really want this done. i do not want any code but a way to nevigate throgh the grid using query string if it does work.   • Static IP for dynamic IP

    I have a dynamic IP address. I would like to have a static IP, but Virgin Media don't allow static IPs for residential broadband services, even if you ask them really nicely and offer to pay for it without switching to a business tariff. I am already registered with a dynamic DNS service which is updated by my router eg me.example.com will always resolve to my dynamic IP. This is fine for some circumstances, but not if you can only enter an IP address into configuration files/hardware etc like firewalls, subversion services etc etc. Is there a way I can have a static IP address 'forwarding' to my dynamic IP? Would a possible solution involve tunnelling? Setting up a private proxy? Please note the following: I am able to buy an IP address from my web host. I have access to a webserver and I am able to create custom DNS zones. I'm happy to have a webserver running at home if necessary also. I do not wish to change broadband providers. I have zero control over the services that require the IP address entering so I cannot tackle the problem that way round (services I need to access are at work). PS I've tried googling this issue, but it is very difficult to search for as most results are related to dynamic dns (which I already have set up and isnt quite what I'm after)

  • Unable to load type error in ASP.NET 4 application on Windows Server 2003 / IIS6 -- only happens after first worker process recycle

    I'm running an ASP.NET 4.0 web application on IIS6 (Windows Server 2003 x64). This app is one of many running on this server under the Default Web Site -- but is alone on it's own application pool because the other sites are all running ASP.NET 2.0 still. When I deploy my application, it works just fine until the application pool recycles or kills its worker process (by default 2 hours or 20 minutes with no activity). After this, I get the error: "Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information.     I keep getting the error code 80072EFE and windows is not installing 11 important updates. Also .NET framework 3.5 is not getting installed it keeps saying that its not able to download. My internet connection is working fine and I am able to browse over the entire internet. I have not changed any of the settings and I am running on Windows 8. The error code I get for .NET is 0x800F0906. Windows live essential are also not getting downloaded. Is there some issue with the Microsoft servers these days?

That works fine, as long as the Model of the collection items does not contain another collection.     Hello, I am so close to get this project done. I need to retrieve the password and passwordSalt from my Membership table to compare it to my 'OldPasswords' table. The problem is the Membership provider does not let me use the GetPassword method because the password is hashed. And I can not retrieve it in a normal sqlConnection because the UserID is hashed also. Does anyone know how to hash the UserID so I can put it in my where clause? Or maybe there is a different way to get to that data? Any help is appreciated. Thank you, Steve

    Is it possible to bind a foreign key relationship on my model to a form input? Say I have a one-to-many relationship between Car and Manufacturer. I want to have a form for updating Car that includes a select input for setting Manufacturer. I was hoping to be able to do this using the built-in model binding, but I'm starting to think I'll have to do it myself. My action method signature looks like this: public JsonResult Save(int id, [Bind(Include="Name, Description, Manufacturer")]Car car) The form posts the values Name, Description and Manufacturer, where Manufacturer is a primary key of type int. Name and Description get set properly, but not Manufacturer, which makes sense since the model binder has no idea what the PK field is. Does that mean I would have to write a custom IModelBinder that it aware of this? I'm not sure how that would work since my data access repositories are loaded through an IoC container on each Controller constructor.
