• Application crashing in the iPad but working fine in iPad simulator.

  Hi, I am writing a game in cocos2d. In the iPad Simulator the application is running good. While I am running the application in the iPad. But it was crashing by giving the following message in terminal. I am using 2048x2048 CCSpriteSheets in my code. I used instruments tool there is sudden increase in memory to 32MB before crashing. It is crashing at CCSpriteFrameCache . • Learning C++ from scratch in Visual Studio?

  I need to get up to speed with C++ quite quickly (I've never used it previously) - is learning through Visual Studio (i.e. Managed C++) going to be any use? Or will I end up learning the extensions and idiosyncracies of C++ in VS, rather then the language itself? If learning in VS is not recommended, what platform / IDE do you guys suggest? Edit: Can anyone elaborate on what VS will hide or manage for me when coding unmanaged C++? I really need to be learning things like pointers, garbage collection and all the nuts and bolts of the low level language.. does VS abstract or hide any of this kind of stuff from you? • msbuild/clickonce publish files generated during the build

  As a part of my build process I generate some files that should be included when creating a clickonce deployment. Here is a blog post of someone telling you how to include items that's not part of the project. However, as someone mentions in the comments of that blogpost, it won't update the deploymentmanifest when you do it in the "BeforePublish" task and the files won't get downloaded - it works fine if you do it in the "BeforeBuild" task though. This gives me a chicken and egg problem as I have to perform the build first to generate the files I want included.. Does anyone have a solution for this ? (p.s. at the moment generating the clickonce deployment using mage.exe is not an option, it have to be done using the Publish target)

  hi there, I have developed a windows application using C# VS 2008 and Sql 2005 express, i have testes the application on my machine and it works fine, my machine is win32 bit, when i tried the application on windows 64bit it keeps giving me an error message on the start of the application,although i installed the sql express on that machine but should i install .NETframwork3.5sp1 64 bit also? , the target machine is widows 7 64bit, also is there a technology or a way to make the application work in the following sequence: 1- the CD is auto run 2- the setup checks for the installed prerequists and install any necessery one without the interference of the user. one last question,should i rebuild the application on an 64 bit machine to make it work on 64 bit machine? thankx

  Hi, im quite new to HTML, and am trying to create a proffessional looking TreeView. I can not use the in built treeview in ASP.Net as i need to point the target of the selection to another frame (I have tried, and this doesn't seem possible). My treeview is built up as follows: Folder1 ChildOne ChildTwo ChildThree Folder2 ChildOne ChildTwo ChildThree I have the collapsing of the folders working, but would like to know how to format this treeview so it has dotted lines down to the child nodes (as most treeviews tend to have). After the datarow is read (match the target type), it will be deleted. However, the row is deleted immediately after .Delete() execute, so the location of the next row (by i) is incorrect. For example, if TargetType is A. When i=0, the "Peter" row is deleted after .Delete executed. Then when i=1, I suppose it will locate the "Sam" row but it actually located "John" row because "Peter" row is deleted. Is there any problem in my codes?

• iPhone filesystem POSIX-compliant?

  Hi all, I'm trying to pass some files from one app to another. I communicate the path (via a custom URL). The target application cannot read the file, citing errno 13 (permission denied). I've checked the permissions on file - they're 0644 (O+R), the permissions on directories all the way up to the root are 755 (O+RX). From a POSIX perspective, the file should be readable to any process and any user. Yet it's not. Any ideas, please? I can think of some workarounds. I could use a Web service (upload, get a cookie, communicate the cookie to the other app, other app downloads). I could also pass the actual file data in the URL - unelegant, and probably subject to length limitations. Clipboard is not supported on iPhone OS 2 IIRC.

  Hello all, I'm writing a CLI for a music-media-platform. One of the features is going to be that you can directly play YouTube videos from the CLI. I don't really have an idea to do it but this one sounded the most reasonable: I'm going to use of those sites where you can download music from YouTube, e.g. http://keepvid.com/ - then I directly stream & play this -- but I have one problem. • Quickbooks integration: IPP/IDS: can these by used for actual data exchange?

  Poking around options for integrating an online app with Quickbooks, I've made a lot of headway with QBWC, but it's fairly ugly. From an end user perspective the usability of QBWC is pretty low. Intuit is now pushing Intuit Partner Platform (IPP) and Intuit Data Services (IDS). I can't quite figure out what these are about: Is IPP limited to using Flex, or can it work with existing web apps? Are there APIs for actual data exchange? Is it possible to interact with desktop Quickbooks using IPP or IDS? If there is sample code, particularly in Python, some pointers would be great.

• Wicket app in embedded Jetty causes UnsupportedClassVersionError

Switching the target class version for my app (1.6 - 1.5) did not help. I use Sun JDK 1.6.0_17, Wicket 1.4.8, Jetty 6.1.24. I tried to debug, but the JRE classes have no debug data. The stacktrace is of no use as it happens when loading the classes into JVM. Any ideas what could be wrong? How can I find which class is causing this? Thanks, Ondra

• Why do external Java libraries paths have to be refreshed in eclipse between starts?

  For my school projects, I use the joda-time API for generating timestamps that are used for file names and logging. Getting eclipse to recognize the library is no problem. However, when I start eclipse between reboots, I get the red X in the project tree because the external API cannot be found, even though the file path has not changed. So each time, I have to go to the Libraries tab in Build Path to re-target the API. Frankly, this is getting to be a PIMA. So is there any way to have the path be permanent, so I don't have to do the Build Path rigmarole all the time?

• IE8 no honoring display:none

  I have the following markup on a page and unfortunately I do not have direct access to it. . This page is opened in an iframe. There is other code on the page but it is not relevant so I have not posted it. The only access to target the code in via css. I want to not display the close button so I added this to the css file img[alt='Close'] {display:none !important;} this is the markup <td align="center"><a href='javascript:window.close()'><img src='v/vspfiles/templates/100/images/buttons/btn_close.gif' alt='Close' border=0></a></td> It works as expected in all browsers that i have tested (firefox, Opera, Safari) but in IE8 it seems to ignore this css and shows the button. Not sure if it doesn't like the selector or perhaps I have a syntax error. Not sure where to go from here.

• Netlink user-space and kernel-space communication

  Hi, I am learning programming in embedded systems using Linux as my main platform. And I want to create a Device Event Management Service. This service is a user-space application/daemon that will detect if a connected hardware module triggered an event. But my problem is I don't know where should I start. I read about Netlink implementation for userspace-kernelspace communication and it seems its a good idea but not sure if it is the best solution. But I read that the UDEV device manager uses Netlink to wait a "uevent" from the kernel space but it is not clear for me how to do that. I read about polling sysfs but it seems it is not a good idea to poll filesystem. What do you think the implementation that should I use in my service? Should I use netlink(hard/no clue how to) or just polling the sysfs(not sure if it works)? Thanks

• Casting between classes that share the same interface

  I have two interfaces IHeaderRow, and IDetailRow I then have an object that implements both RawRow:IHeaderRow, IDetailRow I then need to cast it to HeaderRow which implements IHeaderRow. But when I try, it ends up being null or giving an exception. I can cast ObjectRawRow to either interface IHeaderRow, or IDetailRow var ObjectIHeaderRow = ObjectRawRow as IHeaderRow; var ObjectIDetailRow = ObjectRawRow as IDetailRow; But I can not cast ObjectRawRow to HeaderRow , or ObjectIHeaderRow to HeaderRow. It throws the error Cannot convert source type 'IA' to target type 'A' I need to cast it into the actual class HeaderRow. Thoughts?

• How to retrieve a bigint from a database and place it into an Int64 in SSIS

  I ran into this problem a couple years back and am hoping there has been a fix and I just don't know about it. I am using an 'Execute SQL Task' in the Control Flow of an SSIS package to retrieve a 'bigint' ID value. The task is supposed to place this in an Int64 SSIS variable but I getting the error: "The type of the value being assigned to variable "User::AuditID" differs from the current variable type. Variables may not change type during execution. Variable types are strict, except for variables of type Object." When I brought this to MS' attention a couple years back they stated that I had to 'work around' this by placing the bigint into an SSIS object variable and then converting the value to Int64 as needed. • Do you use Scimore SQL database ?

  There's a database engine that looks amazing for a free tool and that is Scimore. Have you had much experience with it? If so, how does it rate..particularly against Firebird? How resilient/self reliant is it? (Meaning how much downtime/maintenance is expected?) The scale out capabilities also look very interesting. I just downloaded it and have been playing around and so far it looks good. I had been looking for an easy to deploy single-user type embedded database (which Scimore has an option) and was toying with MS SQL Compact Edition and SQLite and remembered this database from a trial a few years ago. (Windows platform) I was about ready to settle in on SQLite but started thinking about other projects which are multi-user and wanted to stick with a single solution...which is why I started looking at Firebird as well.

• Has anyone managed to get jdotnetservices working on Android ?

  I am trying to use jdotnetservices (http://www.jdotnetservices.com/), which is a java SDK for Windows Azure AppFabric, in an Android application. I have had to make some tweaks but only minor ones because jdotnetservices is written to target Java 1.6 and Android uses 1.5. I can get it to compile and run OK but I'm getting errors when I try to access the service bus ACS. Specifically, if I try to get a token from the service bus ACS I get this : Hostname mysolution-sb.accesscontrol.windows.net was not verified. Can anyone give me some pointers as to why this might be ? I can browse to the url of the ACS from Android : https://mysolution-sb.accesscontrol.windows.net/wrapv0.9 which gives me a certificate error, could this be why ? Any way round this ?

• Does the Frontier Kernel have a future?

  Whatever you think about Dave Winer, Frontier is an incredible piece of software. It includes quite a few advances that have yet to be surpassed: the object database, the database viewer, the scripting environment, the hierarchical-including website generation scheme, the elegant scripting language, the mixing of scripts and compilation, rapid prototyping, built in web server, simple debugger, cross-platform, simple UI, etc. My question: Dave turned Frontier over to open source and there is a Frontier Kernel project. However it is fairly quiet. Does Frontier have a future from here?
