• Pushwoosh SDK Notification Issue

  I have integrated the Pushwoosh SDK in my Android Application and it is working fine. I have done the Cross Platform Setting to run the Android Application on my Blackberry Z10 device, the application is running finely but I am not able to receive the Notification on my Blackberry Z10 device as Android. So far, I've done the following: Create a new project; an iPhone OS window based app. Go to target info- under packaging, change the wrapper extension from app to framework Go to Action-new build phase - copy headers. Change roles of headers to 'public' From my application, I add the framework to the frameworks group.

• Xaml not WPF

  I am interested in using Xaml with expression blend for creating user interfaces in an application. However, because of the limitations of the target architecture, I cannot use WPF or C#. So, what I am interested in is in any examples / existing projects or advice from anyone who has experiance of this technology on the use of Xaml in it's "Pure" form as a specification language not tied to WPF. Specific questions: 1) Is it possible to use Blend + Xaml without the WPF elements, or without C# backing classes? 2) Are there any other implementations of Xaml parsers etc. which use different architectures, and can they work with blend or similar tools. 3) Are there alternative editor / designer tools which can help in this situation? I am aware of the MyXaml and MycroXaml projects, and have found a lot of resources on the web about Xaml, but 99% of it relates directly to WPF. This is fine for understanding the concepts of Xaml, but doesn't help with the implimentation I need. Many thanks!

• Creating BlackBerry method stubs using wscompile on WSDL from ColdFusion

  I have been working on a BlackBerry application that consumes web services from ColdFusion 7. The Java ME SDK and the Java Wireless Toolkit both require that the generated WSDL be of the document/literal type. Fortunately, I have input on the web service development so I tried setting 'style="document"' in the cfcomponent tag. This generated a document/literal style WSDL but now wscompile generates the following errors in several places: Found unknown simple type: javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement Found unknown simple type: java.util.Calendar Any ideas why this is happening? The WSDL does get parsed correctly by the JWSDP tool but the stubs use namespaces that are not available in the J2ME platform. I would have thought ColdFusion WSDL would work more easily with other products in the Java family.

• Can I mark an Email as "High Importance" for Outlook using System.Net.Mail?

  Part of the application I'm working on for my client involves sending emails for events. Sometimes these are highly important. My client, and most of my client's clients, use Outlook, which has the ability to mark a mail message as High Importance. Now, I know it is callous to assume that all end users will be using the same interface, sp I am not. But considering you can send email from Outlook as High Importance even if the target is not necessarily reading through Outlook, that means that there is basically some data stored... somehow... that lets Outlook know if a particular message was assigned as High Importance. That's my interpretation, at least. The application currently uses System.Net.Mail to send out emails, using System.Net.Mail.MailMessages for writing them and System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient to send them. Is it possible to set this "High Importance" setting with System.Net.Mail's abilities? If not, is there any assembly available which can configure this setting?

• Distribute CouchDB as part of a Rails app?

  I am working on a Rails project and the Architect has asked me to investigate bundling CouchDB into to application so that it can be deployed by Capistrano across multiple platforms and managed by Rake. My expectation was that I could set up the Erlang VM on the various environments and then distribute the CouchDB application with Capistrano. However I can't find any option to download CouchDB without the Erlang runtime. I can, however see an option to build CouchDB from source which I assume is platform dependent. I am new to Erlang and CouchBD, am I missing something? Is there a way to bundle CouchDB into a Rails app and distribute it across multiple platforms?

• What is your favourite Windbg tip/trick?

  I have come to realize that Windbg is a very powerful debugger for the Windows platform & I learn something new about it once in a while. Can fellow Windbg users share some of their mad skills? ps: I am not looking for a nifty command, those can be found in the documentation. How about sharing tips on doing something that one couldn't otherwise imagine could be done with windbg? e.g. Some way to generate statistics about memory allocations when a process is run under windbg.

• Windows Azure Table Storage LINQ Operators

  Currently Table Storage supports From, Where, Take, and First. Are there plans to support any of the other 29 operators? If we have to code for these ourselves, how much of a performance difference are we looking at to something similar via SQL and SQL Server? Do you see it being somewhat comparable or will it be far far slower if I need to do a Count or Sum or Group By over a gigantic dataset? I like the Azure platform and the idea of cloud based storage. I like Windows Azure for the amount of data it can store and the schema-less nature of table storage. SQL Azure just won't work due to the high cost to storage space.

  Hello, I've downloaded Eclipse Classic 3.5 Galileo, the last version of Android SDK, downloaded and installed Eclipse Android 1.6 platform. I've created first (and the only) AVD with Android 1.6 and the default skin. The log may show more: I've filtered only neccessary messages (warnings, errors). -http://www.clipboard.cz/63c As you can see, my new AVD has started in 16:17 and it was still loading in 17:35... • SWT Filedialog Open into home folder

  I want to open a FileDialog window into the user home folder (i.e. /home/user or /Users/unsername) I read the user home folder, using System.getProperty: String homefolder = System.getProperty(user.home); And the variable containts the correct home folder. But when i set the filterpath in FileDialog, it opens (in linux) only the /home level not entering into the user home dir. • Using a Filter to serve a specific page?

  Hi, I am using a class which implements Filter for my jsp stuff. It looks like this: public class MyFilter implements Filter { public void doFilter(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response, FilterChain chain) throws IOException, ServletException { request.getRequestDispatcher("mypage.jsp").forward(request, response); } } So the target, "mypage.jsp", is just sitting in my top-level directory. The filter works fine if I'm entering urls like: http://www.mysite.com/foo http://www.mysite.com/boo but if I enter a trailing slash, I'll get a 404: http://www.mysite.com/foo/ http://www.mysite.com/boo/ HTTP ERROR: 404 /foo/mypage.jsp RequestURI=/foo/mypage.jsp it seems if I enter the trailing slash, then the filter thinks I want it to look for mypage.jsp in subfolder foo or boo, but I really always want it to just find it at: http://www.mysite.com/mypage.jsp how can I do that? • Prevent batch file in CMD from closing without using Pause

  Currently I want to run a batch file that fires a command and show me that log. After that I need to be able to commit and view the status so this prompt may not disappear after a key press. I've searched the net and the only answer people have is pause which close the prompt after a keypress. Does anyone have the solution for me? • Issue with converting PDF pages to images with ImageMagick's convert (and PHP)

  I'm trying to create a small web service to convert PDF files to a series of images. When I run convert /full/path/to/source.pdf full/path/to/target.jpg when connected to the (shared hosting, Linux) server via ssh, everything works correctly. When executing the same command through PHP's exec() function, only the first few pages of the PDF file get converted. Sometimes the remaining pages are 0-length jpg files, sometimes they don't appear at all. Also, the bottom area of the first pages is sometimes black, as if convert stopped half-way on the page. What could be causing this problem?

• Can I use android.os.* libraries in a standalone project?

  I'm trying to develop an external library (not sure if that's the right term) to provide prepackaged functionality in Android projects. Working in Eclipse, I've added the appropriate android.jar file to the build path, and everything is happy both while editing and upon compilation. However, when I use Android's Handler and Message classes (android.os.Handler, android.os.Message) for inter-thread communication, I get exceptions unless I'm running within an Android app, on the emulator or a device. I can no longer test my library in a "standalone" way without having to go through a running Android target. Is there any way for me to include these two Android classes and still be able to test my library standalone? Do I need to have the Android source available? Or would it require some sort of conditional compilation hand-waving?

• Choosing MooTools over Google closure?

  I am in a process to select javascript library for our new web application. This app is not very UI heavy but has forms, reports, search, calendars, tabs and target multiple countries like most web apps. We are a tiny team. Biggest concern is maintainability and readability of the code. We are Python programmers. After evaluating many other javascript frameworks we have narrowed down to mootools and google-closure. We loved mootools syntax. It took us no time to learn. It's like Python. On other hand we were stumped seeing private/public in google closure. It's tempting to go for mootools however, I would love to hear from you about specific advantages these frameworks offer over each other.

  Is there a way to tag open graph actions so as to target certain recipients and not others? For example, if my app talks about new coffee shop openings in various cities, is there a way to publish the 'opening' action to the graph, perhaps with location / coordinates, such that this is only seen by friends in that locality? I really don't want to spam my friends in London about an opening I'm excited about in Portland. How can I help facebook with the feed relevance in these cases? I noticed that there is a "place" property on open graph objects - could this somehow be used?

• Rewinding std::cout to go back to the beginning of a line

  I'm writing a command-line tool for Mac OS X that processes a bunch of files. I would like to show the user the current file being processed, but do not want a bazillion files polluting the terminal window. Instead I would like to use a single line to output the file path, then reuse that line for the next file. Is there a character (or some other code) to output to std::cout to accomplish this? Also, if I wanted to re-target this tool for Windows, would the solution be the same for both platforms?

  I have been loading an assembly via Assembly.LoadFrom(@"path"); and then doing Type t = asm.GetType("Test.Test"); test = Activator.CreateInstance(t, new Object[] { ... }); and it was working fine, but now I moved the dll I am getting the following System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. --- System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissons.SecurityPermission, etc .. For the sake of brevity it seems the demand was for an PermissionSet that allowed ControlAppDomain and it's not getting it. My question is how can I create this permissionset and pass it to the instance or assembly? I've been googling for hours to no avail.

• Semantic stuff (RDF, OWL) on mobile phones - is it possible?

  I'm thinking about using semantic (web) technogies like RDF and OWL in an application on mobile devices. Currently I'm targeting android, but I'd also be interested in the possibilities on the iPhone and on J2ME. I would like to use a lib instead of implementing everything from scratch. I know that there are some libraries and frameworks like Jena, Redland, Protégé but they don't state on which platforms they are known to work. Having a dynamic object model and parsing from and to XML are must-haves for me. I'd also like to use reasoning, but I've been told it was rather computing-intensive, so that's only a nice-to-have. For all platforms mentioned, the question can be interpreted as Is it possible in theory (especially for J2ME I'm not sure) Are there libs that are known to work on those platforms? Is the performance on a mobile platform good enough for real world usage?
