  Hello. I am working for an intranet application. Therefore I have some control on the client machines. The Java Script library I am using is somewhat big in size. I would like to pre-install OR pre-load OR cache the Java Script library on each machine (each browser as well) so that it does not travel for each request. I know that browsers do cache a Java Script library for subsequent requests but I would like the library to be cached once so all subsequent requests, sessions and users. What is the best mechanism to achieve this?

• Can't get Xdebug to work on Windows 7

  I installed the latest XAMPP package which includes PHP 5.3.0. I am trying to enable Xdebug, but it just won't work. Here's what I changed in the php.ini shipped with XAMPP: ; uncommented zend_extension = "X:\xampp\php\ext\php_xdebug.dll" ; added the following lines: xdebug.remote_enable=true xdebug.remote_host=localhost xdebug.remote_port=9000 xdebug.remote_handler=dbgp Apache starts fine, but when I open http://localhost/ in my browser, I get the following error If I click the Close the program button, the error message will reappear in a second as if it was in an infinite loop. I'd greatly appreciate any help in getting this to work. I am running a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. • Simple image server

  I have a bunch of images that I need others to browse via a web browser in pretty much the same way as Apache-Gallery. I'd be able to dump all my images in a directory so that users hitting: http://server:port/directory would see small thumbnails and selecting an image would load it full size on a page with options to browse the previous or next image. I'm looking for a non Apache solution, much like the wonderfull Python simple http server, that can be launched anywhere with minimal configuration & fuss e.g. python -m SimpleHTTPServer 8000 In fact, the python solution above is pretty much want I want except it doesn't thumbnail the images but just a simple directory listing. Happy to use an app written in any common language so long as it is self contained and can run on linux on a custom port (and to re-iterate, not an Apache module).

• Passing complex objects to javascript via IScriptControl

  I'm playing around with a asp.net page that's using the IScriptControl interface to pass data from the code-behind to the custom javascript object running on the browser. I'm passing a number of properties via IScriptControl.GetScriptDescriptors(), and they're all working fine, except for one. That one is a class derived from System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary<. And even that one has been working for me, so long as the elements in the collection were scalars - ints, doubles, and strings. But when I tried to pass a member of a class, it showed up as a null object in the javascript. The class in question is marked [Serializable]. I changed it to a struct, and got the same behavior. It looks as if the serializer used in IScriptControl does a shallow copy. I need a deep copy. Any ideas?

  Hi, I am creating a lightweight, single-file database administration tool and I would like to bundle some small icons with it. What is the best way to embed images in a HTML/PHP file? I know a method using PHP where I would call the same file with a GET parameter that would output hardcoded binary data with the correct header, but that seems a bit complicated. Can I use something to pass the image directly in a CSS background-image declaration? This would allow me to utilize the CSS sprite technique. Browser support isn't an issue here, so more exotic methods are welcome also. EDIT Does someone have a link/example to how to generate Data URL's properly with PHP? I'd figure echo 'data:image/png;base64,'.base64_encode(file_get_contents('image.png')) would suffice but I could be wrong.

  YSlow has suggested that I use HTTP compression to improve the performance of my site. However, as noted by Yahoo that are some problems. There are known issues with browsers and proxies that may cause a mismatch in what the browser expects and what it receives with regard to compressed content. Fortunately, these edge cases are dwindling as the use of older browsers drops off. The Apache modules help out by adding appropriate Vary response headers automatically. I understand that the most common problem occurs with IE6 behind a proxy. But how common are these problems today? To quantify it, roughly what percentage of web users experience bugs with HTTP compression?

  in the following code <html> <body> <div style="height:400px; width:400px; -moz-border-radius:100px; -webkit-border-radius:100px; border:3px solid #500; background-color:#a00; overflow:hidden;"> Why is this getting cut at the beginning??? </div> </body> </html> Why isn't the browser wrapping the text around the rounded corners. In webkit browsers(i tested both chrome and safari) the overflow hidden cuts the text outside the border. Firefox just renders text outside the border. I also tried this without overflow:hidden; but again the text just rendered outside the border.

• IE8 won't load JavaScript file in "Compatibility View."

  Here's my JS insert: <script type="text/javascript" src="include/profile.js"></script> In IE8 with "Compatibility View," the file never loads. The first line in the file is a simple alert() call, so that I know it loaded. Change the browser to Standards View, and it loads fine. Also, if I add: <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=100" > It forces to Standards View and it loads fine. Any idea why this would be the case? I've not been able to test against IE7, but I know the JS file also does not load in IE6. Right now the tag is in the section of the file.

• Options for non-native form inputs for the web?

  I'm wondering if there are any good non-native form inputs for web development? I am currently using the built in <input> controls. They work just fine, but for my application they are too big (especially on OS X). I am wondering if there are any libraries that I can drop in as replacements. I am especially interested in ones that: Are a close to native control behavior as possible. Support for tabbing, highlighting current textbox, pressing up/down in <select>, etc. Have something that replicates <select> Look good and are compact I am aware that you can use CSS for some styling, but it's pretty minimal and looks different depending on the browser.   Hello I am looking into authenticating via google. I dont understand how it works:http://code.google.com/apis/accounts/docs/OpenID.html#Samples If i do that 2nd request by entering the data as one url with params into browser i get back XML file. Should i not get back sample response nr3? Can somebody explain this to me? The problem is, that im trying to sort through some third party app that uses google openid authentication and its not recieving authenticated users e-mail back, like in sample response 3.   I'm running a curl request on an eXist database through php. The dataset is very large, and as a result, the database consistently takes a long amount of time to return an XML response. • Determining full XHR request URL on a Google Chrome XHR Breakpoint

  I am initiating a jQuery ajax ($.ajax) post, within the Google Chrome browser. I have setup a XHR breakpoint in the "XHR Breakpoints" section of the "Scripts" tab within the Developer Tools. The criteria of the breakpoint is "get" ie. I want the debugger to break on all XHR requests which contain the word "get" in them (somePage.asmx/getListOfAnimals) is an example. The breakpoint is being correctly hit, however I am unable to determine what the exact URL that is being requested. I realize I can remove the breakpoint and see what URL is being requested from the "Network" tab, but I want to know this at the time the breakpoint is hit. I have tried stepping through the XHR request once it has been hit in Chrome, but I must be missing a Javascript object/property which contains the fully requested URL. Google Chrome has detected that the XHR requested URL contains "get" but how do I get to this URL from within the debug session before the request is made?

• Firefox Upload Form Issue

  Ive created an uplaod script in php that takes a file, resizes it, and creates a cropped square thumbnail. The script itself seems to work fine. However, when i tried to upload an image through firefox, on clicking the submit button the browser shows the loading animation, but it never calls the script, it just stays on the current page. If dont upload an image, then the script can be found and is run. I tried in safari, and i dont get the same problem, i can upload an image from the form, it will process it and take me the correct page. Ive tired just calling a basic script from the form, it just prints out the $_POST and $_FILES, and i get the same result, if an image is present, it wont get to the script, if no image is present, it runs fine. Im just wondering if anyone has any idea whats going on?

• Debugging feature activation in SharePoint 2007

  I have a SharePoint feature that is activated under 'Site Collection Features' that is having some issues being activated. I've activated it through the stsadm as well as the SharePoint UI, both unsuccessful. The feature toggles from deactivated to activated, but the result that should be there is not. The result is some pages that should be created. So my question is does anyone know of a way to step through the activation of features process? I'd like to be able to attach Visual Studio 2008 to the browser and step through a few breakpoints that I've set.   Hi, We have a application which is triggered from browser. This application consumes around 800 mb of memory. This works perfectly when invoked from any browsers in windows OS. The same application when triggered from MacOS throws an out of memory exception which occurs when the application is short of memory. Is there any way to increase the memory allocated for apps running in mac os environment. Also please let me know how JVM arguments can be passed to apps started through java webstart in macOS. I build a parameterized command, execute it and attempt to retrieve the auto generated keys as follows: String sql = "INSERT IGNORE INTO `users` (`email`, `pass-hash`) VALUES (?, ?)"; Connection conn = SQLAccess.getConnection(); PreparedStatement ps = conn.prepareStatement(sql); ps.setString(1, login); ps.setString(2, passHash); int count = ps.executeUpdate(); if (count == 1) { ResultSet rs = ps.getGeneratedKeys(); rs.next(); //some more stuff... } For some reason, I get the following SQLException on the line containing ResultSet rs = ps.getGeneratedKeys();: !Statement.Generated Keys Not Requested! • Styling a hr for internet explorer

  Hey, in my quest to create as image light a site as possible, I'm looking to create two tone hr's. I've achieved this in modern browsers, but want to achieve the same effect in ie6 and 7. The current code I am using is hr { border-bottom:1px solid #FFFFFF; border-top:1px solid #dcdcdc; clear:both; height:0; border-left:0px; border-right:0px; } I've tried, with no success to make this work in ie6 and 7 without having to target the browsers specifically.   Hi, My XHR POST REQUEST is cut off. When I try to reload my page information is missing. Firebugs sends following message: ... Firebug request size limit has been reached by Firebug. ... My question is: What are my options? Would it work if I declare the content.length in the header? I added a line to my apache config file and restarted it: LimitRequestBody 0 I increased the size of transfer files in mysql config file Or it is a browser issue? The only solution I could think of was to cut the data in pieces and transmit the array one by one but I don't like this idea. The content length is 91691 according to firebug. Any suggestions?

• Where do Java Applets live?

  I'm trying to figure out where java Applets that I run from the browser live. I'm using Firefox 3.0 on Windows XP with Java 1.6 if that makes any difference. From the Java Control Panel on the toolbar, I can access "Temporary Internet Files - Settings" to find the Java cache. From there I can show the resources and see a file called "dws2010066.dat". Does this resource correspond to a file on disk? I did a search in the Java cache/my whole computer and came up empty handed.

  I am just beginning design work on a problem that I'm sure has been solved before. In a web based application, I need to: a) present a map b) place a set of points (map-pins) on the map c) allow the user at his browser to draw a simple closed curve on the map with his mouse d) send the path of that curve back to the server e) on the server, select from the set of points those that are within the closed curve. What are the best API's to use for this problem? (I know I can and will do more research with Google, but I'm figuring there is probably someone who has done this that can give me some pointers to narrow my search space.) Thanks.

What should I modify in order for the server to serve something else (a static page, or a page dynamically generated through a headless browser like HTML Unit)? I'm guessing it could be the web.xml file, but I'm not sure. (Note: I thought of checking the Showcase app provided with the GWT SDK, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to support serving static files on _escaped_fragment_ and it doesn't use the #! token..)

• BigDecimal precision not persisted with javax.persistence annotations

  I am using the javax.persistence API and Hibernate to create annotations and persist entities and their attributes in an Oracle 11g Express database. I have the following attribute in an entity: @Column(precision = 12, scale = 9) private BigDecimal weightedScore; The goal is to persist a decimal value with a maximum of 12 digits and a maximum of 9 of those digits to the right of the decimal place. After calculating the weightedScore, the result is 0.1234, but once I commit the entity with the Oracle database, the value displays as 0.12. I can see this by either by using an EntityManager object to query the entry or by viewing it directly in the Oracle Application Express (Apex) interface in a web browser. How should I annotate my BigDecimal attribute so that the precision is persisted correctly? Note: We use an in-memory HSQL database to run our unit tests, and it does not experience the issue with the lack of precision, with or without the @Column annotation.

• Using comet with PHP?

  I was thinking of implementing real time chat using a PHP backend, but I ran across this comment on a site discussing comet: My understanding is that PHP is a terrible language for Comet, because Comet requires you to keep a persistent connection open to each browser client. Using mod_php this means tying up an Apache child full-time for each client which doesn’t scale at all. The people I know doing Comet stuff are mostly using Twisted Python which is designed to handle hundreds or thousands of simultaneous connections. Is this true? Or is it something that can be configured around?

• Detecting Requests from Mobile Browsers in ASP.NET

  I have an existing web site and I would like to create a mobile version of it that is more suitable. For instance, the main site uses drop-down menus and we all know those are quite the fail on mobile devices. I would like to redirect to my mobile version (it will be a subdomain of the current site) if I detect a request from a mobile browser. So when they Google something and come to my site, they will automatically see the mobile version (just like Wikipedia). Does ASP.NET provide an easy way of doing this? If not, how can I do it?
