  • C++ Using a class from a header within a class

    - by Kotsuzui
    I'm having a bit of trouble with classes used within classes, from header files. I have an class time in time.h: class Time { private: int hour, second, minute; public: . . . int getHour(int h); etc. setHour(); etc. void print24hour(); // Prints time in 24 hour format } And then, main.cpp: #include "time.h" class Class { private: string name; double grade; Time startTime; Time endTime; public: Class(); ~Class(); void setName(); void setGrade(); etc. } int main() { //Need to print time in 24 hour format, but I don't know how. class[i].startTime.print24(getStartTime()); // ??? I'm rather lost } I get quite a few "hour, second, minute, etc." are private errors, I'm guessing I'm doing something simple in a rather wrong way. Please help.

  • Passing Data to Multi Threads

    - by alaamh
    I study this code from some book: #include <pthread.h> #include <stdio.h> /* Parameters to print_function. */ struct char_print_parms { /* The character to print. */ char character; /* The number of times to print it. */ int count; }; /* Prints a number of characters to stderr, as given by PARAMETERS, which is a pointer to a struct char_print_parms. */ void* char_print(void* parameters) { /* Cast the cookie pointer to the right type. */ struct char_print_parms* p = (struct char_print_parms*) parameters; int i; for (i = 0; i < p->count; ++i) fputc(p->character, stderr); return NULL; } /* The main program. */ int main() { pthread_t thread1_id; pthread_t thread2_id; struct char_print_parms thread1_args; struct char_print_parms thread2_args; /* Create a new thread to print 30,000 ’x’s. */ thread1_args.character = 'x'; thread1_args.count = 30000; pthread_create(&thread1_id, NULL, &char_print, &thread1_args); /* Create a new thread to print 20,000 o’s. */ thread2_args.character = 'o'; thread2_args.count = 20000; pthread_create(&thread2_id, NULL, &char_print, &thread2_args); usleep(20); return 0; } after running this code, I see different result each time. and some time corrupted result. what is wrong and what the correct way to do that?

  • wxWidgets/wxPython: Do two identical events cause two handlings?

    - by cool-RR
    When there are two identical events in the event loop, will wxPython handle both of them, or will it call the handler only once for them both? I mean, in my widget I want to have an event like EVT_NEED_TO_RECALCULATE_X. I want this event to be posted in all kinds of different circumstances that require x to be recalculated. However, even if there are two different reasons to recalculate x, only one recalculation needs to be done. How do I do this?

  • why doesnt this program print?

    - by Alex
    What I'm trying to do is to print my two-dimensional array but i'm lost. The first function is running perfect, the problem is the second or maybe the way I'm passing it to the "Print" function. #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #define ROW 2 #define COL 2 //Memory allocation and values input void func(int **arr) { int i, j; arr = (int**)calloc(ROW,sizeof(int*)); for(i=0; i < ROW; i++) arr[i] = (int*)calloc(COL,sizeof(int)); printf("Input: \n"); for(i=0; i<ROW; i++) for(j=0; j<COL; j++) scanf_s("%d", &arr[i][j]); } //This is where the problem begins or maybe it's in the main void print(int **arr) { int i, j; for(i=0; i<ROW; i++) { for(j=0; j<COL; j++) printf("%5d", arr[i][j]); printf("\n"); } } void main() { int *arr; func(&arr); print(&arr); //maybe I'm not passing the arr right ? }

  • How to dispose BackgroundWorkers the right way

    - by radbyx
    I've got a Windows Service that runs BackgroundWorker's, and I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing when I stop my Windows Service. Is it enough to: Let the BackgroundWorker1_DoWork method complete (I have a while loop in it now, doing some tasks) Set the variable that holds the reference to the BackgroundWorker, to null Is there some kind of Dispose() method I need to call (In the same way the Timer class has Timer.Dispose();)?

  • Receiving "expected expression before" Error When Using A Struct

    - by Zach Dziura
    I'm in the process of creating a simple 2D game engine in C with a group of friends at school. I'd like to write this engine in an Object-Oriented way, using structs as classes, function pointers as methods, etc. To emulate standard OOP syntax, I created a create() function which allocates space in memory for the object. I'm in the process of testing it out, and I'm receiving an error. Here is my code for two files that I'm using to test: test.c: #include <stdio.h> int main() { typedef struct { int i; } Class; Class *test = (Class*) create(Class); test->i = 1; printf("The value of \"test\" is: %i\n", test->i); return 0; } utils.c: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include "utils.h" void* create(const void* class) { void *obj = (void*) malloc(sizeof(class)); if (obj == 0) { printf("Error allocating memory.\n"); return (int*) -1; } else { return obj; } } void destroy(void* object) { free(object); } The utils.h file simply holds prototypes for the create() and destroy() functions. When I execute gcc test.c utils.c -o test, I'm receiving this error message: test.c: In function 'main': test.c:10:32: error: expected expression before 'Class' I know it has something to do with my typedef at the beginning, and how I'm probably not using proper syntax. But I have no idea what that proper syntax is. Can anyone help?

  • Strange compilation error on reference passing argument to function

    - by Grewdrewgoo Goobergabbsoen
    Here's the code: #include <iostream> using namespace std; void mysize(int &size, int size2); int main() { int *p; int val; p = &val; cout << p; mysize(&val, 20); // Error is pointed here! } void mysize(int &size, int size2) { cout << sizeof(size); size2 = size2 + 6000; cout << size2; } Here's the error output from GCC: In function 'int main()': Line 10: error: invalid initialization of non-const reference of type 'int&' from a temporary of type 'int*' compilation terminated due to -Wfatal-errors. What does that imply? I do not understand the error message ... invalid initialization of a non-constant? I declared the prototype function above with two parameters to take, one a reference of an integer and one just an integer value itself. I passed the reference of the int (see line 10), yet this error keeps being thrown at me. What is the issue?

  • Which is more efficient in mysql, a big join or multiple queries of single table?

    - by Tom Greenpoint
    I have a mysql database like this Post – 500,000 rows (Postid,Userid) Photo – 200,000 rows (Photoid,Postid) About 50,000 posts have photos, average 4 each, most posts do not have photos. I need to get a feed of all posts with photos for a userid, average 50 posts each. Which approach would be more efficient? 1: Big Join select * from post left join photo on post.postid=photo.postid where post.userid=123 2: Multiple queries select * from post where userid=123 while (loop through rows) { select * from photo where postid=row[postid] }

  • SQL Reporting Services: Finding the folder a report is in

    - by Bob
    Hi there, If I have the report name how can I programmatically get the name of the project/folder the report is in? So for example if I have a report like so http://server/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=/ReportProject1/ReportName Given "ReportName" how can I figure out that the report is in the folder "ReportProject1"? So I guess is there a function where I can pass int he report name and get it's details or else query the report server for a list of its report folders and I can loop through these and check some how that the report is inside?

  • java.awt.Desktop.open doesn’t work with PDF files?

    - by Jason S
    It looks like I cannot use Desktop.open() on PDF files regardless of location. Here's a small test program: package com.example.bugs; import java.awt.Desktop; import java.io.File; import java.io.IOException; public class DesktopOpenBug { static public void main(String[] args) { try { Desktop desktop = null; // Before more Desktop API is used, first check // whether the API is supported by this particular // virtual machine (VM) on this particular host. if (Desktop.isDesktopSupported()) { desktop = Desktop.getDesktop(); for (String path : args) { File file = new File(path); System.out.println("Opening "+file); desktop.open(file); } } } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } If I run DesktopOpenBug with arguments c:\tmp\zz1.txt c:\tmp\zz.xml c:\tmp\ss.pdf (3 files I happen to have lying around) I get this result: (the .txt and .xml files open up fine) Opening c:\tmp\zz1.txt Opening c:\tmp\zz.xml Opening c:\tmp\ss.pdf java.io.IOException: Failed to open file:/c:/tmp/ss.pdf. Error message: The parameter is incorrect. at sun.awt.windows.WDesktopPeer.ShellExecute(Unknown Source) at sun.awt.windows.WDesktopPeer.open(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Desktop.open(Unknown Source) at com.example.bugs.DesktopOpenBug.main(DesktopOpenBug.java:21) What the heck is going on? I'm running WinXP, I can type "c:\tmp\ss.pdf" at the command prompt and it opens up just fine. edit: if this is an example of Sun Java bug #6764271 please help by voting for it. What a pain. :(

  • How can I check if an object has a specific method?

    - by Ghommey
    I want to use a method of an object. Like $myObject->helloWorld(). However there are a couple of methods so I loop through an array of method names and call the method like this: my $methodName ="helloWorld"; $myObject->$methodNames; This works quite nice but some objects don't have all methods. How can I tell whether $myObject has a method called helloWorld or not?

  • remove 2 subviews in one go.

    - by Pavan
    hi, I am trying to remove two viewcontrollers (that have been added on top of each other) with one method. I have made the views in interfacebuilder. they all have their own .h and .m files to go with it. Scenario I am in: I have a main menu which has the view2 header file imported. In a method I add the second view on top of the superview like so view2ViewController * view2 = [[view2ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"view2ViewController" bundle:nil]; [self.view addSubview:view2.view]; then in view 2 I have added the view 3 header file so i can add view 3 as a subview ontop of view2. i have another method which is connected again to interface builder to a UIButton so upon button press a method gets called in view2 which adds view 3 on top in exactly the same way like so: view3ViewController * view3 = [[view3ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"view3ViewController" bundle:nil]; [self.view addSubview:view3.view]; What im trying to solve: I have a button in view 3 which should remove view 3.... and then it should also remove view 2 aswell so the main screen is visible. How can this be achieved? What I have so far: [self.view removeFromSuperview]; This however only removes View 3... but leaves view 2 in place. What needs to be modified so that i can remove view 2 as well?? Any help is appreciated.

  • fill an array with Int like a Char; C++, cin object

    - by Duknov007
    This is a pretty simple question; first time poster and long time looker. Here is my binary to decimal converter I wrote: #include <iostream> #include <cmath> using namespace std; const int MAX = 6; int conv(int z[MAX], int l[6], int MAX); int main() { int zelda[MAX]; const int d = 6; int link[d]; cout << "Enter a binary number: \n"; int i = 0; while (i < MAX && (cin >> zelda[i]).get()) //input loop { ++i; } cout << conv(zelda, link, MAX); cin.get(); return 0; } int conv(int zelda[MAX], int link[6], int MAX) { int sum = 0; for (int t = 0; t < MAX; t++) { long int h, i; for (int h = 5, i = 0; h >= 0; --h, ++i) if (zelda[t] == 1) link[h] = pow(2.0, i); else link[h] = 0; sum += link[t]; } return sum; } With the way the input loop is being handled, I have to press enter after each input of a number. I haven't added any error correction yet either (and some of my variables are vague), but would like to enter a binary say 111111 instead of 1 enter, 1 enter, 1 enter, etc to fill the array. I am open to any technique and other suggestions. Maybe input it as a string and convert it to an int? I will keep researching. Thanks.

  • Hot to set class variable to be visible to its public static methods?

    - by RCola
    Why I can noy access my variable p in mull form iterate method? How to resolve a problem? Hot to set class variable to be visible to its public static methods? public class mull { public static void main(String[] args) throws InterruptedException { final JPanel p = createAndShowGUI(); Timer timer = new Timer(1000, new MyTimerActionListener()); timer.start(); try { Thread.sleep(10000); } catch (InterruptedException e) { } timer.stop(); public static void iterate(){ for (int i = 0; i < 55; i++){ // "p cannot be resolved" p.moveSquare(i*10, i*10); p.setParamsRing(i*5, i*7, 200, 200); // p.repaint(); } } } class MyPanel extends JPanel { .... } How to access variable set in another method (in this example main())? Why Eclipse forces me to use this ((MyPanel) p).setParamsRing(i*5, i*7, 200, 200); instead of this p.setParamsRing(i*5, i*7, 200, 200);?

  • How to make your more experienced and authoritative teammates not to create 'fast temporary solution

    - by Roman
    I'm currently working on a small short-lived project. But despite the size it's complicated enough with very unclear logic. That's why it was started by more experienced developers. They work on it from time to time because it's not their main project. They made some code drafts with numerous places which 'would be rewritten in the nearest future'. After that they added several another 'temporary pieces'. And then again.. So, now the project is a mess of 'half-working' pieces of code with some hardcoded values, like file names or some constants which 'will be replaced latter with working parts'. The API is awful (nobody thinks about it actually). And it's really, really hard to do development now (for me it's the main and only project). I caught myself thinking that I spent about an hour every day just to understand again all that tricky 'temporary' things and API weaknesses. And after that hour my brain melts. I can't just say that "guys, your code smells like a trash dump". What's the correct way?

  • How to handle exceptions from an image-generating Servlet?

    - by ssahmed555
    I have a simple (Servlet, JSP, and JSTL) web app whose main functionality is displaying images retrieved from a back-end server. The controller servlet forwards the user to a JSP that in turn uses another Servlet to display the resulting image on that same JSP. Further down, the JSP has a line similar to: <a href="<c:out value='${imageURL}'/>"><img src="<c:out value='${imageURL}'/>" alt="image view" border="1"></a> which invokes a GET request on the image-generating servlet causing it to generate the image. My question is: how do I handle Exceptions thrown by this image-generating servlet? I already have an error page defined (in web.xml) to handle ServletException within my web app but this doesn't work for this image-generating Servlet, and results in the following errors showing up in my Tomcat server logs: SEVERE: Exception Processing ErrorPage[exceptionType=javax.servlet.ServletException, location=/WEB-INF/ExceptionPage.jsp] java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot reset buffer after response has been committed What's my recourse in this situation? I'd like to be able to handle Exceptions thrown from this image-generating Servlet, and display some error on the main UI or forward the user to another error page.

  • ASP.NET MVC model state as text

    - by David Moorhouse
    Is there an easy way to get a summary string of the errors that have been added to a controller's modelstate? I'm looking to return this in an Ajax method and want the validation errors etc to be returned to the client (i.e. the view does not exist for this method call). Or do I have to loop through the modelstate and look at each object and extract the error text manually?

  • Saving Data to Relational Database (Entity Framework)

    - by sheefy
    I'm having a little bit of trouble saving data to a database. Basically, I have a main table that has associations to other tables (Example Below). Tbl_Listing ID UserID - Associated to ID in User Table CategoryID - Associated to ID in Category Table LevelID - Associated to ID in Level Table. Name Address Normally, it's easy for me to add data to the DB (using Entity Framework). However, I'm not sure how to add data to the fields with associations. The numerous ID fields just need to hold an int value that corresponds with the ID in the associated table. For example; when I try to access the column in the following manner I get a "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." error. Listing NewListing = new Listing(); NewListing.Tbl_User.ID = 1; NewListing.Tbl_Category.ID = 2; ... DBEntities.AddToListingSet(NewListing); DBEntities.SaveChanges(); I am using NewListing.Tbl_User.ID instead of NewListing.UserID because the UserID field is not available through intellisense. If I try and create an object for each related field I get a "The relationship between the two objects cannot be defined because they are attached to different ObjectContext objects." error. With this method, I am trying to add the object without the .ID shown above - example NewListing.User = UserObject. I know this should be simple as I just want to reference the ID from the associated table in the main Listing's table. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, -S
