  • Horizontal scrolling site

    Hi I have a horizontal scrolling site that uses jquery to reverse the mouse axis on the scroll wheel on the mouse. This works fine on every browser apart from safari.     I'm having difficultly adding querystring parameters to link_to UrlHelper. I have an Index view, for example, that has UI elements for sorting, filtering, and pagination (via will_paginate). The will_paginate plugin manages the intra-page persistence of querystring parameters correctly. Is there an automatic mechanism to add the querystring parameters to a give named route, or do I need to do so manually? A great deal of research on this seemingly simple construct has left me clueless.

  • C# Begin/EndReceive - how do I read large data?

    When reading data in chunks of say, 1024, how do I continue to read from a socket that receives a message bigger than 1024 bytes until there is no data left? Should I just use BeginReceive to read a packet's length prefix only, and then once that is retrieved, use Receive() (in the async thread) to read the rest of the packet? Or is there another way? edit: I thought Jon Skeet's link had the solution, but there is a bit of a speedbump with that code. The reason for this is if the buffer gets filled on a read it is assumed there is more data; but the same problem happens as before. A 2 byte buffer, for exmaple, gets filled twice on a 4 byte packet, and assumes there is more data. It then blocks because there is nothing left to read. The problem is that the receive function doesn't know when the end of the packet is. This got me thinking to two possible solutions: I could either have an end-of-packet delimiter or I could read the packet header to find the length and then receive exactly that amount (as I originally suggested). There's problems with each of these, though. I don't like the idea of using a delimiter, as a user could somehow work that into a packet in an input string from the app and screw it up. It also just seems kinda sloppy to me. The length header sounds ok, but I'm planning on using protocol buffers - I don't know the format of the data. Is there a length header? How many bytes is it? Would this be something I implement myself? Etc.. What should I do?

  • Java / Tomcat memory leak in RedHat Linux?

    Hi, I've got a Red Hat box with 6G memory running Tomcat and I'm trying to figure out how much memory I have left on the box. Problem is, top & jconsole is showing one figure (around 200M), and system monitor is showing a different figure (around 2G). Does anybody know what the difference is? I'm not sure if there is a memory leak happenning here, but the highest memory consumer is a tomcat process that's taking 2.2G of memory. Screenshots below:

  • Adding UIView animation mysteriously changes starting frame

    I'm working on an app that shows a thumbnail of a photo taken by the user. In order to show a seemless transition from the full-screen image shown in the UIImagePickerController to the thumbnail, I set the frame on my copy of the image to [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds] and then change the frame to match the frame of an invisible button. (The button allows users to re-take their photo by tapping the thumbnail image.) The trouble is that the starting x-origin of my UIImageView (imageView) is mysteriously starting nearly offscreen to the left: As you can see from the alert, the imageView purports to be located at (0,0), yet it's displaying at something like (-255,0). Update — Other weirdness worth mentioning in case it's relevant: It turns out the offset changes depending on the orientation of the camera when the photo was taken. If I take the picture with the phone upside-down, for instance, then the image gets offset vertically as well as horizontally. The picker seems to be filling the image's imageOrientation incorrectly: I have to hold the phone sideways, Home button on the left, to get an image with UIImageOrientationUp. At one point I experimented with setting imageView.clipsToBounds = YES;, which revealed that my image view's frame is in fact correct. Rather, it's the UIImage's placement within the UIImageView that gets offset. Fwiw, the image view's contentMode is the default, UIViewContentModeScaleToFill.

    What is wrong with this and how could I fix it. I have css menu (horizontal) that I want the background and font to be changed when one of the items is selected. I found another post that gave me some jquery code to help make it work, and I thought I had it coded right, but when I click on an item to change its class it adds the class, but the background and font stay the same?   • Autoresize textbox control vertically

    In a C# form, i have a panel anchored all sides, and inside, a textbox, anchored top/left/right. When text gets loaded into the textbox, i want it to auto expand itself vertically so that i don't need to scroll the textbox (scroll the panel at most, if there is more text that doesn't fit the panel). is there any way to do this with a textbox? (i'm not constrained to use this control so if there's another control that fits the description, feel free to mention it)

    Hi, While using new SQL Server 2008 Reporting Service 2008 the page margins that I specify in Report Properties Page Setup do not seem to flow through to Excel when exported? They always seem to be set to Top & Bottom: 2.5cm, Left & Right: 1.9cm, no matter what I set them to in the report. This was working perfect in 2005 version. Any help would be much appreciated.   • Detecting iPhone camera orientation

    I'm getting inconsistent results depending on whether I get the image directly from the camera in the callback or choosing it from the camera roll. In the UIImagePickerControllerDelegate callback method, the UIImage.imageOrientation comes up as UIImageOrientationRight no matter how the photo is taken. When reading it off the Camera Roll, a landscape shot (turned left) comes up UIImageOrientationUp while a portrait shot comes up UIImageOrientationRight. How can I reliably get the camera orientation in both situations?

    I'm replicating a small piece of Sugarscape agent simulation model in Python 3. I found the performance of my code is ~3 times slower than that of NetLogo. Is it likely the problem with my code, or can it be the inherent limitation of Python? Obviously, this is just a fragment of the code, but that's where Python spends two-thirds of the run-time.
