    I need to populate the first box with the items from a db table. Users would choose from the first box, and either drag value(items) to the second for selection, or would select items, and then click a button to move them over to the 2nd box. After that I need to update the db with the selected values/items.

  • Comparison tool with easy line insertion

    Back in good old days I used to use a tool for file comparison with one incredible feature -- you open file1, file2, see a difference, no magic here. But then you could insert an empty line(s) into file1 with one keyboard combo and into file2 with another keyboard combo. So you could easily adjust how are C / asm function aligned in case diff engine failed to recognize similar stuff. Of course, after the adjust (insertion / removal of one or more lines in either file) whole diff was "recalculated". I fail to find similar feature in diff, KDiff, ... I'd prefer Linux app but I'm OK with Windows app as last resort... Thanks for any hint!

    Hi everyone, I've been reading a lot about threading in C#, WPF and Silverlight but can't get it to work. My main problem is I have the _load (_Initialized) action and it has a lot of object creation and along with that I have timers working doing different things, this causes the startup time of the program to be very slow and obviously causes the UI to hang and it isn't a good thing for deploying to a lot of users. My timers change values of labels and textfields but having them do that on another thread is an obvious no go. So can someone give me some examples on how to achieve what I need to do? Thanks

    function addOption(selectbox, val, txt){ ...... } addOption(list, "Cars", "Cars"); I need to add this in front of the text of the function: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; So that there is space coming in before the option text...Never mind what it is for, it is just confusing... I just don't know how to insert it into the js code. If I do it like this: addOption(list, "Cars", "&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Cars"); Then the &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; comes into the text, so it gets displayed for the users. However I need it to be interpreted as "space"... If you don't understand let me know... How can I do this? Quotes, double quotes etc? Thanks

    I am aware of array_walk() and array_map(). However when using the former like so (on an old project) it failed array_walk($_POST, 'mysql_real_escape_string'); Warning: mysql_real_escape_string() expects parameter 2 to be resource, string given. So I went with this slightly more ugly version foreach($_POST as $key => $value) { $_POST[$key] = mysql_real_escape_string($value); } So why didn't the first way work? What is the best way to map values of an array to a function?

  • Need help with jquery json data transfer from php file

    Hey guys I am trying to return the latest 10 results of a query from a php file, through json format, to a jquery getjson function that prints results. I am getting weird problems though. For example I am only getting 8 entries returned, and some are disordered, and sometimes nothing is returned. I am not really sure what I am doing wrong, so if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.   • Is programming too easy if compared to other fields?

    I have been programming since some years and I won't say its a piece of cake but in this field, you know how to do things. You can always google up resources, tutorials. There are tons of already written code to help you with - frameworks, libraries but if you compare it to other innovation fields like "Electronics". Its not too easy to get started with, the community might not be too large on the internet, getting the things right plus lets not forget there is nothing to tell you where the error might be. I have wanted many times but not be able to get into, like, building some kind of robot because I don't know how to start. So my question is that, does programming tends to be easy compared rest of the fields or is it just my intrest that makes it easy?

    Our company ships a range of desktop products for Windows and lots of Linux users complain on forums that we should have been written versions of our products for Linux years ago and the reason why we don't do that is we're a greedy corporation all our technical specialists are underqualified idiots Our average product is something like 3 million lines of C++ code. My and my colleagues analysis is the following: writing cross-platform C++ code is not that easy preparing a lot of distribution packages and maintaining them for all widespread versions of Linux takes time our estimate is that Linux market is something like 5-15% of all users and those users will likely not want to pay for our effort when this is brought up the response is again that we're greedy underqualified idiots and that when everything is done right all this is easy and painless. How reasonable are our evaluations of the fact that writing cross-platform code and maintaining numerous ditribution packages takes lots of effort? Where can we find some easy yet detailed analysis with real life stories that show beyond the shadow of a doubt what amount of effort exactly it takes?

MAX_READ_SIZE : bytesLeft; evbuffer_add_file(databuff, fd, offset, bytesToRead); offset += bytesToRead; evhttp_send_reply_chunk(request, databuff); // send it evbuffer_free(databuff); // destroy it } evhttp_send_reply_end(request); fclose(fptr); Problem is with this I have a feeling the add_file is asynchronous so the 3rd or so evhttp_send_reply_chunk gives me an error (or something similar): [warn] evhttp_send_chain Closed(45): Bad file descriptor I set MAX_READ_SIZE to be 8 to actually test out chunked transfer encoding. I noticed there was a evhttp_request_set_chunked_cb (struct evhttp_request *, void(*cb)(struct evhttp_request *, void *)) method I could use but could not find any examples on how to use. For instance, how could I pass an argument to the callback? The argument seems to be the same argument that was passed to the request handler which is not what I want, because I want to create an object that holds the file descriptor and the file offset I am sending out.   • transferring binary files between systems

    Hi guys I'm trying to transfer my files between 2 UNIX clusters, the data is pure numeric (vectors of double) in binary form. Unfortunately one of the systems is IBM ppc997 and the other is AMD Opteron, It seems the format of binary numbers in these systems are different. I have tried 3 ways till now: 1- Changed my files to ASCII format (i.e. saved a number at each line in a text file), sent them to the destination and changed them again to binary on the target system (they both are UNIX, no end of line character difference??!) 2- Sent pure binaries to the destination 3- used uuencode sent them to the destination and decoded them Unfortunately any of these methods does not work (my code in the destination system generates garbage, while it works on the first system, I'm 100% sure the code itself is portable). I don't know what else I can do? Do you have any idea? I'm not a professional, please don't use computer scientists terminology! And: my codes are in C, so by binary I mean a one to one mapping between memory and hard disk. Thanks

    When I install PIL using easy_install or buildout it installs in such way, that I must do 'import Image', not 'from PIL import Image'. However, if I do "apt-get install python-imaging" or use "pip -E test_pil install PIL", all work fine. Here are examples of how I trying to install PIL using virtualenv: # virtualenv --no-site-packages test_pil # test_pil/bin/easy_install PIL # test_pil/bin/python Python 2.5.1 (r251:54863, Feb 6 2009, 19:02:12) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5465)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import PIL Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: No module named PIL I see, that easy_install pack PIL into the Egg, and PIP does not.   • UINavigationController back button half works in iPad landscape orientation

    In an iPad application with a UINavigationController, everything works in portrait mode but in landscape mode the back button sometimes only goes back half a level. That is to say, on the first press the title bar animates as if it was popping a controller, and on the second press it animates the content popping. Has anyone found a solution to this? The contradictory solution in this question did not help.   • Installing psycopg2 (postgresql) in virtualenv on windows

    I installed psycopg2 in virtualenv using easy_install psycopg2. I did not see any errors and looks like installation went fine.. there is an egg file created in the site-packages dir for psycopg2.. but when I run import psycopg2 in the interpreter, I am getting following error.. any clue? How can I fix it.. any other way to install psycopg2 in virtualenv..     When I easy_install some python modules, warnings such as: <some module>: module references __file__ <some module>: module references __path__ <some module>: module MAY be using inspect.trace <some module>: module MAY be using inspect.getsourcefile sometimes get emitted. Where (what package / source file) do these messages come from? Why is referencing __file__ or __path__ considered a bad thing?
