    I'm looking for a server software product that: Allows my users to share large files with: The general public securely to 1 or more people (notification via email, optionally with a token that gives them x period of time to download) Allows anyone in the general public to share files with my users. Perhaps by invitation. Has to be user friendly enough to allow my users to use this with out having to bug me as the admin. It needs to be a system that we can install on our own server (we don't want shared data sitting on anyone else's server) A web based solution. Using some kind or secure comms channel would be good too, eg, ssh Files to share could be over 1 GB. I found the question below. WebDav does not sound user friendly enough: http://serverfault.com/questions/86878/recommendations-for-a-secure-and-simple-dropbox-system I've done a lot of searching, but I can't get the search terms right. There are too many services that provide this, but I want something we can install on our own server. A last resort would be to roll my own. Any ideas appreciated. Glen EDIT Sorry Tom and Jeff but Glen specifically says that he's looking for a 'product' so given that I specialise in this field thought that my expertise in this area may have been of use to him. I don't see how him writing services is going to be easy for him to maintain going forward (large IT admin overhead) or simple for his users and the general public to work with.

  • Easy GUI way to auto scale EC2 and RDS: aws console, scalr, ylastic...?

    I am managing all my instances with the AWS Management Console (the GUI web console) but now I want to use Auto Scale and it seems that this can not be done with that console. Yes, there is CloudWatch but I can only create alarms (e-mail notifications), it seems that CouldWatch needs you to add the auto scale policy in some other place (by command line console?). I would like to use some easy GUI interface. Ylastic and Scalr seems to be a good option. Which one do you think is better? Regarding Scalr, is there any difference between the open source software Scalr and the service Scalr.net? I mean, is the GUI interface the same? I like the idea of the Scalr because I do not need to give my Secret Access Key to a third party (like in Ylastic or in Scalr.net) One question about the Scalr software, it has to be installed in the instances or it must be installed in another machine? Do I need to setup again all my security permissions, AMIs, snapshots, etc. or I can use AWS Management Console for everything and Scalr just to auto scale.

With disk utility I can see that Ubuntu can recognize something, that as a peripheral device named rockchip usbdisk user and rockchip usbdisk sd, and i can plug and play other devices, and only this mp3/mp4 do not connect to the computer with ubuntu and the device as no problem working disconnected to computer I try to see if work on Windows and it does! I can see the device and transfer files to the MP3/MP4 dane-elec folder device and use FAT32. So why can not do on Ubuntu!? What can I do and why does not work on Ubuntu? What is wrong with it?   • WCF SSL secure transfer or large payloads without changing firewall.

    I need to transfer small amounts of data intermittently from clients to our server in a secure fashion and pull down large binary files from the server ocassionally. It's important for all this to be reliable. I'm anticipating 100,000 clients. I control both ends, but I want to deliver a solution that doesn't require changing the firewall for the majority of customers. A lag of one or two minutes before the information migrates to the server or comes down seems to be acceptable at this time. We need to make the connection secure, so was thinking about SSL, but open to suggestions. Basically, what is the best binding to use in this situation so that we have a secure transmission and the system handles the stress and load in a way that works for 95% of clients out of the box (firewalls will not block in majority of firewall configurations).

  • JDBC connections: How to specify the port for data-transfer?

    I wanto to run my JDBC-connection (either Oracle or MSSQL) through a proxy-server. Reason for this is to have additional controls of the traffic, especially for developing. I know, I could specify the proxy, which runs on my machine, and the port in the connection-string. But the specified connection-settings are only taken as some kind of handshake to agree on which port the data is finally transferred. And this is defenitly not the port which I have under proxy-control. So, does anybody have an idea, how to specify the port for the data-transfer? I would prefer if this could be done in the connection-string. The same issue applies for Oracle and MSSQL. Thx LeO

    I am aware of passing data between jsp in spring web flow. Is it possible to transfer data between html pages driven by spring web flow. I don't want to use the HTML5 local storage capabilities. Example: Page 1: Search box for an employee id. Page 2: Search result for the employee details. Two ways that I could think: Get the employee details in page 1 by ajax and pass the result to the page two. Pass the employee id to page 2 and get the result by ajax in onload. I can partially store it in a temp table and store last readed position, so when connection is reestablished I can request continue uploading of file from this position.   • how to make it easy for users to register at my site?

    I want to make it dirt simple for users coming to my site to register so they can post comments, vote on things, etc. I would like for them to be able to use their facebook id, twitter id, yahoo mail id, gmail id, AIM id, msn id, or whatever else people are likely to have (not necessarily all of those, but the more the better). I want my mom to be able to do it in 30 seconds or less. (that is, no "enter your open id url here" type thing that would confuse her). I prefer they not have to pick a unique name, as that gets annoying as the site gets more users and it gets hard to find one that is unique. What is the best option here? I'm not quite sure about OpenId vs. OAuth, and whether there are other options. And I'd like it to be as simple for me, the developer, as possible (of course!). I don't want to spend forever learning some protocol, nor have to structure my whole app around this. It would be great if there was a site with sample code that is pretty easy to drop in. BTW, StackOverflow is a good example of a site that was easy for me to register for.
