  I'm imagining a situation where you are creating an F# module in a purely functional style. This means objects do not have mutable fields and are not modified in place. I'm assuming for simplicity that there is no need to use .NET objects or other kinds of objects. There are two possible ways of implementing an object-oriented kind of solution: the first is to use type classes and the second to use records which have fields of functional type, to implement methods. I imagine you'd use classes when you want to use inheritance but that otherwise records would be adequate, if perhaps clumsier to express. Or do you find classes more convenient than records in any case?

• Ubuntu: Move fsbackup backups to Amazon S3

  I have a legacy server (Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic x86), where previous admin set up backups with fsbackup. This server lives in a VPS (under some kind of Xen), and it is low on HDD space (16 GB total). Now it came to a point, where fsbackup backups take more space than the rest of data in the system. The filesystem is 100% filled, and I already cleaned up all that I could, aside from actual backups. I do not have any experience managing fsbackup, and I do not want to break or lose the backups. Googling fsbackup gives surprisingly low quality results... • AD LDS High availability

  We are currently using CAS for multiple directory authentication. AD for internal users, AD LDS for external users. I've read that NLB is a possible solution, but wondering if this is possible with SRV records, and how about you would correctly configure that. With our AD directory, I can bind with olddomain.local, and hit any of the DCs in the domain. We don't want to hardcode servernames into CAS, so the end goal is to bind with LDSdomain.gov. nslookup -type=srv _ldap._tcp.LDSdomain.gov returns _ldap._tcp.LDSdomain.gov SRV service location: priority = 0 weight = 100 port = 1025 svr hostname = server01 _ldap._tcp.LDSdomain.gov SRV service location: priority = 0 weight = 200 port = 1025 svr hostname = server02

• How can I setup my local Nginx server so I can edit the files?

  I have my local development machine running Arch Linux, Nginx, PHP-FPM and MySQL. In order for the websites I am working on to run the files need to be owned by the http user. The files are currently located in folders like this: /srv/http/site1/ /srv/http/site2/ When I use the following chown command on the http folder the sites work fine, but I cannot edit the files with my user: chown -R http.users /srv/http When I do this the sites do not work, but I can edit the files: chown -R shane.http /srv/http How can I make it so that my user can edit the files, and the web server can run them at the same time? Any ideas?

• Comparing RPG to C# and SQL.

  In an RPG program (One of IBM's languages on the AS/400) I can "chain" out to a file to see if a record (say, a certain customer record) exists in the file. If it does, then I can update that record instantly with new data. If the record doesn't exist, I can write a new record. The code would look like this: Customer Chain CustFile 71 ;turn on indicator 71 if not found if *in71 ;if 71 is "on" eval CustID = Customer; eval CustCredit = 10000; write CustRecord else ;71 not on, record found. CustCredit = 10000; update CustRecord endif Not being real familiar with SQL/C#, I'm wondering if there is a way to do a random retrieval from a file (which is what "chain" does in RPG). Basically I want to see if a record exists. If it does, update the record with some new information. If it does not, then I want to write a new record. I'm sure it's possible, but not quite sure how to go about doing it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi, i started to try reverse debugging with gdb 7, followin the tutorial: http://www.sourceware.org/gdb/wiki/ProcessRecord/Tutorial and I thought, great! Then I started to debug a real program which gives an error at the end. So I run it with gdb, and I put a breakpoint just before the place I think the error appears. Then I type "record" in order to start to recrd actions for future reverse-debugging. But after some steps I get Process record doesn't support instruction 0xf0d at address 0x2aaaab4c4b4e. Process record: failed to record execution log. Program received signal SIGTRAP, Trace/breakpoint trap. 0x00002aaaab4c4b4e in memcpy () from /lib64/libc.so.6 (gdb) n Single stepping until exit from function memcpy, which has no line number information. Process record doesn't support instruction 0xf0d at address 0x2aaaab4c4b4e. Process record: failed to record execution log. Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted. 0x00002aaaab4c4b4e in memcpy () from /lib64/libc.so.6 Before I look at in in detail, I wonder if this feature is still buggy, or if I should start to record from the beginning. • Dynamically generate client-side HTML form control using JavaScript and server-side Python code in Google App Engine

  I have the following client-side front-end HTML using Jinja2 template engine: {% for record in result %} <textarea name="remark">{{ record.remark }}</textarea> <input type="submit" name="approve" value="Approve" /> {% endfor %} Thus the HTML may show more than 1 set of textarea and submit button. The back-end Python code retrieves a variable number of records from a gql query using the model, and pass this to the Jinja2 template in result. When a submit button is clicked, it triggers the post method to update the record: def post(self): if self.request.get('approve'): updated_remark = self.request.get('remark') record.remark = db.Text(updated_remark) record.put() However, in some instances, the record updated is NOT the one that correspond to the submit button clicked (eg if a user clicks on record 1 submit, record 2 remark gets updated, but not record 1). I gather that this is due to the duplicate attribute name remark. I can possibly use JavaScript/jQuery to generate different attribute names. The question is, how do I code the back-end Python to get the (variable number of) names generated by the JavaScript? Thanks.

  I've currently got textures loading using CreateWICTextureFromFile however I'd like a little more control over it, and I'd like to store images in their byte form in a resource loader. Below is just two sets of test code that return two separate results and I'm looking for any insight into a possible solution. • TryUpdateModel is not working for new Record on ASP.NET MVC Page?

  Hi I have a customer Registartion page using ASP.NET MVC with fields like FirstName, LastName, Address from AddressDetail Table. When i create a new object for CustomerMaster and trying to update the fields using TryUpdateModel, it is not updating. But the TryUpdateModel is working fine on the Edit Profile Page and that particular record is referenced. CODE on Registartion Page: AddressDetail add = new AddressDetail(); bool status = TryUpdateModel<AddressDetail>(add, "addr", new[] { "FirstName", "LastName", "Address_1", "Address_2", "ZipCode", "City", "Phone", "Fax" }, formData); CODE on Edit Profile Page: AddressDetail addr = (from a in miEntity.AddressDetail where a.AD_Id == 20 select a).First(); bool rc = TryUpdateModel<AddressDetail>(addr, "addr", new[] { "FirstName", "LastName", "Address_1", "Address_2", "ZipCode", "City", "Phone", "Fax" }, formData); Does anybody run into same issue with TryUpdateModel? Doesn't it update the Model for New Record? Thanks

  I have Source Connector Type as 'File Reader' which is reading HL7 files and Destination Connector Type as 'Database Writer'. My database table has two columns Participant_Information SPR_Information I want to transform a single HL7 file into two XML files one for Participant_Information column and other for SPR_Information column and need to insert both as a single record into the database table. I'm able to insert one XML at a time but not able to find the way to insert both the XMLs as a single record into the database table. Any help is really greatly appreciated!

  I have to import data from excel to SQL database. Excel data contains various parameters and there value like P1,P1,P4,P5 etc. I have to apply business rules Like if( P1 100 and P1 < 200) then insert the record in database. Similarly in some cases string values are also validated. Can I have any open source rule engine that contains UI to change , add , delete the rules. Am using C# to read the excel and and insert the records One more thing which is best approach: Read excel first and store every record as an object in a collection, then iterate through the collection, apply business rules on every object and then insert record in the database Or Read one record from excel apply business rule and then insert record in the database. Repeat the process for whole excel.

  I am starting to use memcache more frequently to avoid having to recalculate things between page requests. When the memcache periodically clears, as it is designed to do, I have to start all over rebuilding various items that I have placed in memcache. What I would like to do is create a very simple model that enables me to periodically save the items that I put into memcache based on the memcache keys that I'm using along with a datetime that is related to the data being memcached. What is the best way to do this?   I have to create a code in PHP that will allow me to keep the history of record updates in MySQL database so I can find by date an old revision.   in vs2008, Tools, Macros, Record TemporaryMacro keyboard shortcut toggle is Ctrl+Shift+R; Run TemporaryMacro keyboard shorcut is Ctrl+Shift+P for playback. I've used them before, but they've stopped working. If I open Tools, Options, Keyboard, then navigate to a command like Tools.Run that has no assigned keyboard shortcut, I can experiment by pretending to assign a keyboard shorcut: I simply click inside the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox and try different keystroke combinations. Examples: Ctrl+p: currently assigned to File.Print Ctrl+r: currently assigned to various uses Ctrl+Shift+Q: available Ctrl+Shift+B: currently assigned to Build.BuildSolution BUT vs2008 will not even allow me to type either of Ctrl+Shift+P or Ctrl+Shift+R in the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox. When I type those combinations, nothing appears in the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox. Please note: I can record and playback a temporary macro by using the menu commands, however, the mouse is like a turtle when compared to the keyboard. Does the previous value of ID ie 99 (Suppose) is stored somewhere in some variable/file in the ORM layer or before inserting this value a query was fired to know about the last inserted value or database is itself doing that or anything else???
