  • Make is more OOPey - good structure?

    Hi, I just want advice on whether I could improve structure around a particular class which handles all disk access functions The structure of my program is that I have a class called Disk which gets data from flatfiles and databases on a, you guessed it, hard disk drive. I have functions like LoadTextFileToStringList, WriteStringToTextFile, DeleteLineInTextFile etc which are kind of "generic methods" In the same class I also have some more specific methods such as GetXFromDisk where X might be a particular field in a database table/query. Should I separate out the generic methods from the specialised. Should I make another class which inherits the generic methods. At the moment my class is static as there is no need to have an internal state of the class. I'm not really OOPing am I? Thanks Thomas

  • How do I destruct data associated with an object after the object no longer exists?

    I'm creating a class (say, C) that associates data (say, D) with an object (say, O). When O is destructed, O will notify C that it soon will no longer exist :( ... Later, when C feels it is the right time, C will let go of what belonged to O, namely D. If D can be any type of object, what's the best way for C to be able to execute "delete D;"? And what if D is an array of objects? My solution is to have D derive from a base class that C has knowledge of. When the time comes, C calls delete on a pointer to the base class. I've also considered storing void pointers and calling delete, but I found out that's undefined behavior and doesn't call D's destructor. I considered that templates could be a novel solution, but I couldn't work that idea out. Here's what I have so far for C, minus some details: // This class is C in the above description.     Hi all I need to implemente a Java class which uses JNI to control a fiscal printer in XUbuntu 8.10 with sun-java6-jdk installed. The structure is the following: EpsonDriver.java loads libEpson.so libEpson is linked dynamically with EpsonFiscalProtocol.so ( provided by Epson, no source available ) and pthread I use javah to generate the header file, and the code compiles. Then I put the libEpson.so in $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/i386, and EpsonDriver.java uses an static initializar System.loadLibrary("libEpson") That part works, however, when I try to use any of the methods I get an unsatisfiedLinkError exception.   • Android OnClick in ListView calling parent function

    I have an Android application with a ListView in it, the ListView will setup fine but now I want a image in the ListView to be clickable. I do this by using 2 classes, the Activity class (parent) and an ArrayAdapter to fill the list. In the ArrayAdapter I implement a OnClickListener for the image in the list that I want to be clickable. So far it all works. But now I want to run a function from the activity class when the onClick, for the image in the list, is run but I do not know how. Below are the 2 classes that I use.     I have set up my mapping file and classes as suggested by many articles class A { ... IList BBag {get;set;} ... } class B { ... A aObject {get;set;} ... } <class name="A">...<bag name="BBag" table="B" inverse="true" lazy="false"><key column="A_ID" /><one-to-many class="B" /></bag>... <class name="B">...<many-to-one name="aObject" class="A" column="A_ID" />... I added a set of A's to the A table and a set of B's to the B table, all the data is stored as expected. However if I try and access aInstance.BBag.Count I get a null reference exception. I think I missing some key knowledge on how an bag gets instantiated. Thanks

    I want to display a basic html table with controls to toggle showing/hiding of additional columns: <table id="mytable"> <tr> <th>Column 1</th> <th class="col1">1a</th> <th class="col1">1b</th> <th>Column 2</th> <th class="col2">2a</th> <th class="col2">2b</th> </tr> <tr> <td>100</td> <td class="col1">40</td> <td class="col1">60</td> <td>200</td> <td class="col2">110</td> <td class="col2">90</td> </tr> </table> So Column 1 and Column 2 will be the only columns displayed by default - but when you click on the Column 1 I want 1a and 1b to toggle, and same with Column 2 with 2a and 2b. I may end up with more columns and lots of rows - so any javascript looping approaches have been too slow to work with when I tested. The only approach that seems to be fast enough is to set up some css like this: table.hide1 .col1 { display: none; } table.hide2 .col2 { display: none; } table.hide3 .col3 { display: none; } table.show1 .col1 { display: table-cell; } table.show2 .col2 { display: table-cell; } table.show3 .col3 { display: table-cell; } And then set up onClick function calls on the table header cells that will trigger a toggle - and determine which css class to set "mytable" to that will create the toggle effect that I'm looking for. Is there an easy way to set this up so that the code can work for n # of columns?

    I'm new to Python... and coming from a mostly Java background, if that accounts for anything. I'm trying to understand polymorphism in Python. Maybe the problem is that I'm expecting the concepts I already know to project into Python. But I put together the following test code: class animal(object): "empty animal class" class dog(animal): "empty dog class" myDog = dog() print myDog.__class__ is animal print myDog.__class__ is dog From the polymorphism I'm used to (e.g. java's instanceof), I would expect both of these statements to print true, as an instance of dog is an animal and also is a dog. But my output is: False True What am I missing?

I want any calls like: new A($$$any string$$$).check() returns a dummy string "test". I tried: A a = mock(A.class); when(a.check()).thenReturn("test"); String test = a.check(); // to this point, everything works. test shows as "tests" whenNew(A.class).withArguments(Matchers.anyString()).thenReturn(rk); // also tried: //whenNew(A.class).withParameterTypes(String.class).withArguments(Matchers.anyString()).thenReturn(rk); new A("random string").check(); // this doesn't work But it doesn't seem to be working. new A($$$any string$$$).check() is still going through the constructor logic instead of fetch the mocked object of A.

I've setup the corresponding Model classes and Fluent NHibernate Mapping classes, all that is working fine. Here's where I'm getting stuck. I need to write a query which will return the sections a student is enrolled in based on the student's UserId and the dates of the class. Here's what I've tried so far: 1. var sections = (from s in this.Session.Linq<Sections>() where s.Class.StartDate <= DateTime.UtcNow && s.Class.EndDate > DateTime.UtcNow && s.Students.First(f => f.UserId == userId) != null select s); 2. var sections = (from s in this.Session.Linq<Sections>() where s.Class.StartDate <= DateTime.UtcNow && s.Class.EndDate > DateTime.UtcNow && s.Students.Where(w => w.UserId == userId).FirstOrDefault().Id == userId select s); Obviously, 2 above will fail miserably if there are no students matching userId for classes the current date between it's start and end dates...but I just wanted to try. The filters for the Class StartDate and EndDate work fine, but the many-to-many relation with Students is proving to be difficult. Everytime I try running the query I get an ArgumentNullException with the message: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: session I've considered going down the path of making the SectionStudents relation a Model class with a reference to Section and a reference to Student instead of a many-to-many.     I'm trying to define my own (very simple) exception class in Python 2.6, but no matter how I do it I get some warning. First, the simplest way: class MyException(Exception): pass This works, but prints out a warning at runtime: DeprecationWarning: BaseException.message has been deprecated as of Python 2.6 OK, so that's not the way. I then tried: class MyException(Exception): def __init__(self, message): self.message = message This also works, but PyLint reports a warning: W0231: MyException.__init__: __init__ method from base class 'Exception' is not called. So I tried calling it: class MyException(Exception): def __init__(self, message): super(Exception, self).__init__(message) self.message = message This works, too! But now PyLint reports an error: E1003: MyException.__init__: Bad first argument 'Exception' given to super class How the hell do I do such a simple thing without any warnings?

Also I have tried fnAddTr but I keep receiving an error saying my object does not have the method "getelementsByTagName" again, is there a function that will allow me to add a string of "" to a datatable?
