• Strange bug with PHP on Windows 7

  This is the configuration: Windows 7 Home Premium, XAMPP 1.7.3 (Apache 2.2.14 , PHP 5.3.1), Firefox 3.6 This is the PHP-code in a file named 'test.php' in htdocs: <?php echo('04556-8978765'); ?> On http://localhost/test.php I would expect to see the string 04556-8978765 in the browser. This is not what happens, though. The string appears for a short time and then it disappears altogether. Firebug shows an empty body-tag. However, when I look at page source, the string is there alright. When I change the string in the echo-statement to e.g. 4556-8978765, everything is fine. Internet Explorer 8 does not show this strange behavior. I could not reproduce this with the same Apache/PHP/Firefox configuration on Windows XP. '04556-8978765' is by no means unique. The couple '02065-96047' and '02065-9604' behave exactly the same. Can anybody reproduce this and offer an explanation as to what is going on? • NSMagedObjectContext, threads and NSFechedResultsController

  Dear iphone developers, Core Data newbie speaking here. In my application I have two NSManagedObjectContext that refer to that same NSPersistentStorageController. One ManagedObjectContext (c1) is in the main thread --created when I create a NSFetchedResultsController -- and the second ManagedObjectContext (c2) created in a second thread, running in the background, detached from the main thread. In the background thread I pull some data off a website and insert the entities created for the pulled data in the thread's ManagedObjectContext (c2). In the meanwhile, the main thread sits doing nothing and displaying a UITableView whose data do be display should be provided by the NSFetchedResultsController. When the background thread has finished pulling the data and inserting entities in c2, c2 saves, and the background thread notifies the main thread that the processing has finished before it exiting. As a matter of fact, the entities that I have inserted in c2 are know by c1 because it can ask it about one particular entity with [c1 existingObjectWithID:ObjectID error:&error]; I would expect at this point, if I call on my tableview reloadData to see some rows showing up with the data I pulled from the web in the background thread thanks to the NSFetchedResults controller which should react to the modifications of its ManagedObjectContext (c1). But nothing is happening! Only if I restart the application I see what I have previously pulled from the web! Where am I doing things wrong? Thank you in advance!

  Is there a way of changing/adding to the windows Open/Save common dialog to add extra functionality? At work we have an area on a server with hundreds of 'jobfolders'- just ordinary windows folders created/managed automatically by the database application to house information about a job (emails/scanned faxes/Word docs/Spreadsheets/Photos etc) The folders are named by the job Number. I would like to expand the standard open/save dialog with a combobox which searches for jobfolders based on tags from the database, so that whatever my users are doing they can easily find their way to the correct jobfolder to find/save their work Connecting to the database and providing the functionality to search is no problem, but is there a way to add a combobox control (ideally with a keypress/keydown event) to the dialog? Or Create my own dialog and have it called/used in place of the standard one? i.e. from ANY app my dialog would be called allowing easy access to the jobfolders. If they are in outlook they can find a jobfolder quickly, if there are using Notepad they can still find the folder easily. This would mean a new unified way of finding jobfolders from any app. Ideally someone would know a way using VB/VB.net/C# but I'm guessing, if its possible, its probably going to be C++.

  I'm trying to make a function that merges arrays. The reason is, I have a function that supposed to get the settings of an entity, and merge them with the global defaults. //So for example, let's say globalOptions is something like this var globalOptions={opt1:'foo',opt2:'something'}; //and this is entityOptions var entityOptions={opt1:'foofoo',opt2:null}; The only difference is it has objects in objects and objects in objects in objects, so what I made was a function that loops through all objects, thinking I would later, easily be able to loop through it all. Please ignore the array thing. • Can I automate a loop query based on category with the page's title?

  To explain further, I need to get a page to display posts from a specific category. I want to automate this process so I don't have to make a template for each category. How would I do that? (keep in mind the person I'm building this is for has no coding experience.) The only way I could think off from the top of my head is to use the title or slug. So if the category is named the same thing as the slug, could I filter by category using the slug? Maybe this isn't the best way... what should I do? • Optimize Duplicate Detection

  Background This is an optimization problem. Oracle Forms XML files have elements such as: <Trigger TriggerName="name" TriggerText="SELECT * FROM DUAL" ... /> Where the TriggerText is arbitrary SQL code. Each SQL statement has been extracted into uniquely named files such as: sql/module=DIAL_ACCESS+trigger=KEY-LISTVAL+filename=d_access.fmb.sql sql/module=REP_PAT_SEEN+trigger=KEY-LISTVAL+filename=rep_pat_seen.fmb.sql I wrote a script to generate a list of exact duplicates using a brute force approach. Problem There are 37,497 files to compare against each other; it takes 8 minutes to compare one file against all the others. Logically, if A = B and A = C, then there is no need to check if B = C. So the problem is: how do you eliminate the redundant comparisons? The script will complete in approximately 208 days. • What considerations should be made when creating a reporting framework for a business?

  It's a pretty classic problem. The company I work for has numerous business reports that are used to track sales, data feeds, and various other metrics. Of course this also means that there is a conglomerate of disparate frameworks, ASP.net pages, and areas where these reports can be found. There have been some attempts at consolidating these into a single entity, but nothing has stuck yet. Since this is a common problem, and I am sure solved innumerable times, I wanted to see what others have done. For the most part these can be boiled down to the following pieces: A SQL query against our database to gather data A presentation of data, generally in a data grid Filtering that can vary based on data types and the business needs Some way to organize the reports, a single drop down gets long and unmanageable quickly A method to download data to alter further, perhaps a csv file My first thought was to create a framework in Silverlight with Linq to Sql. Mainly just because I like it and want to play with it which probably is not the best reason. I also thought the controls grant a lot of functionality like sorting, dragging columns, etc. I was also curious about the printing in Silverlight 4. Which brings me around to my original question, what is the best way to do this? Is there a package out there I can just buy that will do it for me? The Silverlight approach seems pretty easy, after it's setup and templated, but maybe it's a bad idea and I can learn from someone else?

• How would I sort files to directories based on filenames?

  I have a huge number of files to sort all named in some terrible convention. Here are some examples: (4)_mr__mcloughlin____.txt 12__sir_john_farr____.txt (b)mr__chope____.txt dame_elaine_kellett-bowman____.txt dr__blackburn______.txt These names are supposed to be a different person (speaker) each. Someone in another IT department produced these from a ton of XML files using some script but the naming is unfathomably stupid as you can see. I need to sort literally tens of thousands of these files with multiple files of text for each person; each with something stupid making the filename different, be it more underscores or some random number. They need to be sorted by speaker. This would be easier with a script to do most of the work then I could just go back and merge folders that should be under the same name or whatever. There are a number of ways I was thinking about doing this. parse the names from each file and sort them into folders for each unique name. get a list of all the unique names from the filenames, then look through this simplified list of unique names for similar ones and ask me whether they are the same, and once it has determined this it will sort them all accordingly. I plan on using Perl, but I can try a new language if it's worth it. I'm not sure how to go about reading in each filename in a directory one at a time into a string for parsing into an actual name. I'm not completely sure how to parse with regex in perl either, but that might be googleable. For the sorting, I was just gonna use the shell command: `cp filename.txt /example/destination/filename.txt` but just cause that's all I know so it's easiest. I dont even have a pseudocode idea of what im going to do either so if someone knows the best sequence of actions, im all ears. I guess I am looking for a lot of help, I am open to any suggestions.   Hi, this is just a question to discuss - what is the best way to make a view/edit control in WPF? E.g. we have an entity object Person, that has some props (name, surname, address, phone etc.). One presentation of the control would be a read-only view. And the other would have the edit view for this same person.   Let's say I have some objects: ArrayList<SomeObject> list = new ArrayList<SomeObject>(); SomeObject A = new SomeObject(); SomeObject B = new SomeObject(); SomeObject C = new SomeObject(); SomeObject D = new SomeObject(); These constructors automatically add each object to the ArrayList so I can iterate over them but still maintain the variable names for direct access: public SomeObject(){ // init stuff here list.add(this); } But then, let's say I want to output some debug info, and iterate through list and print out the NAME of each object? How can I do that? Essentially, when "SomeObject A = new SomeObject();" is executed, I want to use reflection (if possible) to determine that this variable's name is "A" (a String) and either store that in the object when the constructor executes, or determine it dynamically through reflection when referencing this object with the variable named "A". Does that make sense? How can I do this? Thanks!

  I'm creating a temp image always named 1.png under specific folder and once i read the image_contents and process, i use unlink() to delete that specific image from that folder. But sometimes the image file is not deleted and the same image is file is read and processed. That script is working otherwise fine... There is no permission related issues , as the files are deleted sometimes... Will there be any issue when the script is repeatedly called and the image with the name is already present and not deleted etc.. ??? • Rails - HABTM Relationship -- How Can I Find A Record Based On An Attribute Of The Associated Model

  I have setup this HABTM relationship in the past and its worked before....Now it isnt and I'm at my wits end trying to figure out whats wrong. I've looking through the rails guides all day and cant seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong, so help would really be appreciated. I have 2 models connected through a join model and I'm trying to find records based an attribute of the associated model. Event.rb has_and_belongs_to_many :interests Interest.rb has_and_belongs_to_many :events and a join table migration that was created like create_table 'events_interests', :id => false do |t| t.column :event_id, :integer t.column :interest_id, :integer end I tried @events = Event.all(:include => :interest, :conditions => [" interest.id = ?", 4 ] ) But got the error "Association named 'interest' was not found; perhaps you misspelled it?"... which I didnt of course I tried @events = Event.interests.find(:all, :conditions => [" interest.id = ?", 4 ] ) but got the error "undefined method `interests' for #Class:0x4383348" How can I find the Events that have an interest id of 4....I'm definitely going bald from this lol

• Storing same type but still getting an ArrayStoreException

  I have strange problem. I have three classes. Book ( abstract ), and two subclasses ( Fiction, Nonfiction). I have created array of Book references. That array can hold both subclasse's objects. I checked java documentation and it says that this exception is thrown when i'm trying to store different objects in array ( like String and Int ), but in this case they are all the same objects. Both classes are children of superclass, that means, they are of the same type. I'm confsued. A little help here please?

• How to move positions within an array?

  A program that simply moves array elements. Two variables: userInputVariable and blankSpaceVariable. I have a 2D array named table. Defined as table[userInputVariable + 1][6] I am printing out this array in a table format, and the far left column is numbered by whatever number the user entered at the beginning of the program. I then ask the user where they would like to enter a blank space within the array. This blank space acts like a divider for all the other information in the array. For example, if the user enters 10 at the start for the userInputVariable, and then enters 5 for the blank space. Once printed, the numbers should go like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, --, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. My plan has been to create a for loop and try to move all the numbers in the array back a position starting from the blank space variable. What I currently have, but does not work: for (int i = blankSpaceVariable; i < table.length - 1; i++) { table[i] = table[i + 1]; } table[blankSpaceVariable] = "--"; With my current code, the numbers go like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 Tried completing this a few different ways also, but the other info within my 2D array didn't move with the numbers. So I thought that this approach can hopefully move all the info within my 2D array down, and make way for a blank section. All help is greatly appreciated!

  Ultimately I'm going to convert this into a Hibernate/JPA design. But I wanted to start out from purely a database perspective. We have various tables containing data that is future-effective-dated. Take an employee table with the following pseudo-definition: employee id INT AUTO_INCREMENT ... data fields ... effectiveFrom DATE effectiveTo DATE employee_reviews id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id Very simplistic. But let's say Employee A has id = 1, effectiveFrom = 1/1/2011, effectiveTo = 1/1/2099. That employee is going to be changing jobs in the future, which would in theory create a new row, id = 2 with effectiveFrom = 7/1/2011, effectiveTo = 1/1/2099, and id = 1's effectiveTo updated to 6/30/2011. But now, my program would have to go through any table that has a FK relationship to employee every night, and update those FK to reference the newly-effective employee entry. I have seen various postings in both pure SQL and Hibernate forums that I should have a separate employee_versions table, which is where I would have all effective-dated data stored, resulting in the updated pseudo-definition below: employee id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_versions id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id ... data fields ... effectiveFrom DATE effectiveTo DATE employee_reviews id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id Then to get any actual data, one would have to actually select from employee_versions with the proper employee_id and date range. This feels rather unnatural to have this secondary "versions" table for each versioned entity. Anyone have any opinions, suggestions from your own prior work, etc? Like I said, I'm taking this purely from a general SQL design standpoint first before layering in Hibernate on top. Thanks!

  The default WordPress categories widget does not allow excluding named categories. I've created a plugin which creates adds a Customized category widget to the "Available Widgets" listing which gives me some control over the items I want to exclude. I'd also like to give the user the options to specify the title of the categories listing (just as they can do in the default categories widget). btw, I'm using id 1 which is the default "uncategorized" category and assigning items to that category that I don't want to appear in the listing. Any help much appreciated! :)

• Parsing an XML string containing "&#x20;" (which must be preserved)

  I have code that is passed a string containing XML. This XML may contain one or more instances of &#x20; (an entity reference for the blank space character). I have a requirement that these references should not be resolved (i.e. they should not be replaced with an actual space character). Is there any way for me to achieve this? Basically, given a string containing the XML: <pattern value="[A-Z0-9&#x20;]" /> I do not want it to be converted to: <pattern value="[A-Z0-9 ]" /> (What I am actually trying to achieve is to simply take an XML string and write it to a "pretty-printed" file. This is having the side-effect of resolving occurrences of &#x20; in the string to a single space character, which need to be preserved. The reason for this requirement is that the written XML document must conform to an externally-defined specification.) I have tried creating a sub-class of XmlTextReader to read from the XML string and overriding the ResolveEntity() method, but this isn't called. I have also tried assigning a custom XmlResolver.

  I'm basically a front end designer and new to PHP and MySQL but I want a user to be able to store multiple names and there meanings in a MySQL database table named names using PHP I will dynamically create form fields with JQuery every time a user clicks on a link so a user can enter 1 to 1,000,000 different names and there meanings which will be stored in a table called names. All I want to know is how can I store multiple names and there meanings in a database and then display them back to the user for them to edit or delete using PHP MySQL? I created the MySQL table already. • Recommendation for using equals in Entities and avoiding LazyInitializationExceptions?

  In the beginning there is a problem that wants to be solved. In my case i got an LazyInitializationException while using indexof in a Collection to retrieve an Object for manipulation. Here i start to think about using equals in EntityBeans (OR-Mapper at all). I know there are some discussions about overriding equals in association with OR-Mapper as hibernate like [1] Entities equals(), hashCode() and toString(). How to correctly implement them? [2] To equals and hashcode or not on entity classes, that is the question. [3] Overriding equals and hashCode in Java I currently have some entities which implements the equals but inside the code i could not use equals several times because of the LazyInitializationExceptions. So i had to workaround and use eg. the name property of the object to identify it's equality. From my point of view the whole 'LazyInitializationException-thing' is not really mentioned in this questions. I'd like to know have you got some good patterns or real live recommendations how to avoid such exception in an equal-Method. Shall i use some helper Methodes to distinguish if a Object of a class is already initialized (4) or should i apdicate the use of equals and use helper classes instead (2)? And what is about catching LazyInitializationExceptions in the equals? [Edit]: If you put equals in context with the initialization of the Object then it will gain importance. Sometimes it is nessesary to have the Object fully initialized but sometimes you don't want to. Because you just need the Object itself (name, id, ...) not its Collection-Properties. So just for equalization you have to reattach the Object and load the whole bunch you don't realy need? Are there any other solutions for such a problem?

• Pointers to a typed variable in C#: Interfase, Generic, object or Class? (Boxing/Unboxing)

  First of all, I apologize if this has been asked a thousand times. I read my C# book, I googled it, but I can't seem to find the answer I am looking for, or I am missing the point big time. I am very confused with the whole boxing/unboxing issue. Say I have fields of different classes, all returning typed variables (e.g. 'double') and I would like to have a variable point to any of these fields. In plain old C I would do something like: double * newVar; newVar = &oldVar; newVar = &anotherVar; ... In C#, it seems I could do an interfase, but would require that all fields be properties and named the same. Breaks apart when one of the properties doesn't have the same name or is not a property. I could also create a generic class returning double, but seems a bit absurd to create a class to represent a 'double', when a 'double' class already exists. If I am not mistaken, it doesn't even need to be generic, could be a simple class returning double. I could create an object and box the typed variable to the newly created object, but then I would have to cast every time I use it. Of course, I always have the unsafe option... but afraid of getting to unknown memory space, divide by zero and bring an end to this world. None of these seem to be the same as the old simple 'double * variable'. Am I missing something here?
