  I have installed Adobe Livecycle in order to convert MSWORD files to PDF from a web-app. Specifically, I use the DocConverter tool. Previously I have used OpenOffice UNO SDK, but I have found some problems with particular documents. Now, the conversion is ok, but the conversion time is huge. These are the times to convert documents of different sizes via Openoffice and via Livecycle. Could you suggest anything? • Using Accelerometer in Wiimote for Physics Practicals

  I have to develop some software in my school to utilize the accelerometer in the Wiimote for recording data from experiments, for example finding the acceleration and velocity of a moving object. I understand how the accelerometer values will be used but I am sort of stuck on the programming front. There is a set of things that I would like to do: Live streaming of data from the Wiimote via bluetooth Use the accelerometer values to find velocity and displacment via integration Plot a set of results Avoid the use of the infrared sensor on the Wiimote Please can anyone give me their thoughts on how to go about this. Also it would be great if people could direct me to existing projects that utizlise the wiimote. Also can someone suggest what would be the best programming language to use for this. My current bet is on using Visual basic. Any sort of help is greatly appretiated.

  How can I best implement a system for send keystrokes/commands via an iPhone and/or Droid to a desktop or laptop computer via WiFi or bluetooth? There are apps for VLC, Keynote and other applications that do this, so I know it's possible but don't know what technology base to use. The implementation is probably different on Windows and OS X, but if they could be similar that'd be a big win. If VNC-type technology is used, that'd be fine but I only need to send key commands and mouse clicks—I don't need to be able to navigate the screen space.

• Cakephp, i18n, Retrieve translation records for associated models

  Quoting from the cakephp Book (ver 1.3): Note that only fields of the model you are directly doing find on will be translated. Models attached via associations won't be translated because triggering callbacks on associated models is currently not supported. Has anyone come up with a solution for this??? If not could you give me some pointers concerning the following simple scenario. I have 2 models: Project, Category. Project HABTM Category I have properly set up i18n table and I have a few entries in the db, all translated. When I retrieve a project it does retrieve the translation but not the translated category because as it says in the cakephp book models attached via associations won't be translated.   In one of our projects, we've built a Publisher - Subscriber Engine on Oracle Service Bus. The functionality being a series of events are published and subscribers (JMS queues) receive these whenever a new event is published. We are facing some technical issues now, performance-wise and hence an architectural review is underway. Now for my questions: Architecturally the ESB has to publish events into a DB and read from the DB which users wish to be notified, then push the event onto their respective queues. There is a high amount of DB interaction and the question is whether ESB should be having such high amount of interaction with the DB in the first place? Or should there have been some alternate component responsible for doing this. Alternately is there any non-DB approach in which we can store the events and subscribers? Where else can this application data be held within the ESB context?

  As a developer, I often ssh right into my local database, just to test my application before pushing my code. However, I find that every time I want to access Postgres, I have to type in postgres@ubuntu:~$ /usr/local/pgsql/bin/psql test whereas on my work machine, all I have to do is type postgres@ubuntu:~$ psql --dbname=test --username=user I tried creating a symlink, which was successful, but whenever I try connecting to it through this shortcut, I get the following error message: psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5432"? How do I get this to work? In case it makes any difference, I'm using a self-compiled version of the 9.1.x series.

  I have to create a form dynamically via javascript (yeah, that sounds ugly, but read this for the reason) and wants to make its submission CSRF proof. Usually, I use the @csrf_protect decorator in my views, and the {% csrf_token %} tag in my templates, as recommanded in the doc. But what should I do with a client-side generated form ? If I add a '/get_token/' view to generate a token on the server and obtain its value (say, via JSONP), then that means that I'm creating a backdoor an attacker could use to bypass the protection. Kinda head-scratching. What would you recommand ?

• PHP/Apache: Permission settings for uploaded JPEG image files not correct.

  I just setup a LAMP development server and am still trouble-shooting some things. The server is installed on one computer and I use a Windows laptop to write my code and test the site via the web browser. My file uploading script works in that JPEG image files are successfully uploaded to the server, but when I try to view the images in the web browser, permission is denied. I check the permissions on the file via the server and they are 600. I can fix the issue by chmod 777 theimage.jpg, but this doesn't seem like a good solution at all. Does the solution have something to do with Apache configuration? Or is there something else I should be doing. Thank-you, Mike

• xerces serialization in Java 6

  In Java 6, the entire xerces XML parser/serializer implementation is now in the Java runtime (rt.jar). The packages have been moved under the com.sun.* namespace, which places them off-limits for explicit reference within client code. This is not a problem when using the parser, which is instantiated via javax API-defined factories. However, our code also uses xerces serialization (org.apache.xml.serialize.* ). AFAICT, there are no javax.xml API-defined factories for creating instances of Serializer and OutputFormat. This seems to imply that the only way to get one is to explicitly call the com.sun.org.apache.xml.serialize.* APIs. I've found the serialization classes in javax.xml.stream, but they don't seem to provide any output-formatting control like the xerces OutputFormat class. Question: Is there a way to access the xerces serialization functionality (which is in rt.jar) via a javax standard API, without including xerces.jar and also without explicitly instantiating com.sun.* classes? If not, is there an javax API-compliant way to achieve the same effect?

• SFTP transfer file and move file to folder

  Hi all, This is my first post so please excuse my ignorance. I am using a vbscript to zip all .csv type files in a particular folder. After some google searches, I have found a workable vbscript to do this and have enabled a scheduled task to automate this. What I need to do next is to transfer the zip file via sftp and then "move" that zip file into another folder. I believe the former can be achieved using pscp.exe via command line but can someone show me how to do the latter? Basically the zipping will be done twice a day and so it will have a timestamp similar to yyyymmdd0900.zip (for 9am schedule) and yyyymmdd1800.zip (for 6pm schedule). After the transfer, I want to move (not copy) the zip file generated into another folder. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

  I have a Java class like this: public class Foo { public static int counter = 0; public void bar(int counter) { Foo.counter = counter; } } FindBugs warns me about writing to the static field counter via the instance method bar. However, if I change the code to: public class Foo { public static int counter = 0; public static void setCounter(int counter) { Foo.counter = counter; } public void bar(int counter) { setCounter(counter); } } Then FindBugs won't complain. Isn't that wrong? I'm still writing to a static field from an instance method, just via a static method - no?

  I have an ACER ASPIRE ONE AO756-Series, equipped with A wifi controller Atheros Communications Inc. AR9462 Everything worked fine on 12.04, but when I upgraded to 12.10 I experimented some issues : * wifi does work ! * still, the wifi icon/menu does not react normally : 1) it is always grey, hence not indicating if connected or not, 2) It does not react to me clicking on it (disconnect, change the network, desactive wifi, etc) So it's not a critical issue because I can change the active wifi connection through control pannel, but it is very annoying. Do you know of an solution around this issue ? thanks a lot antoine

  I am wondering if there is a framework out there for .NET to help me with sending messages to users. I would love to be able to write all my messages to a single repository. I would then like to be able to send these messages out to a user based on preferences that they set. e.g. I would like to be able to send a Notification A out to user A via email and text message and send Notification B to user B via SMS and IM. Any thoughts on if something like this exists or would I need to write it?
