Write down a Name for the virtual Machine a proceed to select a Operating System and Version. (In this case it is a Linux (Oracle Enterprise Linux or RedHat)Click Next5. Select the memory amount base for the Virtual Machine(Minimal 1280 for our case) - Click Next6. Select the Disk 11GR2_OEL5_32GB.vdi it was added in the virtual media manager in the step 2.Dont forget let selected Boot hard Disk (Primary Master) . Given it is the only disk assigned to the virtual machine.Click Next7. Click Finish8. This step is important. Once you have click on the settings Button. 9. On General option click the advanced settings. Here you must change the default directory to save your Snapshots; my recommendation set it to the same directory where the .Vdi file is. Otherwise you can have the same Virtual Machine and its snapshots in different paths.10. Now Click on System, and proceed to assign the correct memory (If you did not before)Note: Enable "Enable IO APIC" if you are planning to assign more than one CPU to the Virtual Machine.Define the processors for the Virtual machine. If you processor is dual core choose 211. Select the video memory amount you want to assign to the Virtual Machine12. Associated more storage disk to the Virtual machine, if you have more VDI files.(Not our case)The disk must be selected as IDE Primary Master.13. Well you can verify the other options, but with these changes you will be able to start the VM.Note: Sometime the VM owner may share some instructions, if so follow his instructions.14. Finally Start the Virtual Machine (Click > Start)

• What Would a CyberWar Do To Your Business?

  In mid-February the Bipartisan Policy Center in the United States hosted Cyber ShockWave, a simulation of how the country might respond to a catastrophic cyber event. An attack takes place, they can't isolate where it came from or who did it, simulated press reports and market impacts...and the participants in the exercise have to brief the President and advise him/her on what to do. Last week, Former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff who participated in the exercise summarized his findings in Federal Computer Weekly. The article, given FCW's readership and the topic is obviously focused on the public sector and US Federal policies. However, it touches on some broader issues that impact the private sector as well--which are applicable to any government and country/region-- such as: · How would the US (or any) government collaborate to identify and defeat such an attack? Chertoff calls this out as a current gap. How do the public and private sector collaborate today? How would the massive and disparate collection of agencies and companies act together in a crunch? · What would the impact on industries and global economies be? Chertoff, and a companion article in Government Computer News, only touch briefly on the subject--focusing on the impact on capital markets. "There's no question this has a disastrous impact on the economy," said Stephen Friedman, former director of the National Economic Council under President George W. Bush who played the role of treasury secretary. "You have financial markets shut down at this point, ordinary transactions are dramatically depleted, there's no question that this has a major impact on consumer confidence." That Got Me Thinking · How would it impact Oracle's customers? I know they have business continuity plans--is this one of their scenarios? What if it's not? How would it impact manufacturing lines, ATM networks, customer call centers... · How would it impact me and the companies I rely on? The supermarket down the street, my Internet Service Provider, the service station where I bought gas last night. I sure don't have any answers, and neither do Chertoff or the participants in the exercise. "I have to tell you that ... we are operating in a bit of unchartered territory." said Jamie Gorelick, a former deputy attorney general who played the role of attorney general in the exercise. But it is a good thing that governments and businesses are considering this scenario and doing what they can to prevent it from happening.

• Tuning B2B Server Engine Threads in SOA Suite 11g

  Background B2B 11g has a number of parameters that can be tweaked to tune the engine for handling high volumes of messages. These parameters are also known as B2B server properties and managed via the EM console.  This note highlights one aspect of the tuning exercise and describes the different threads, that can be configured to tune the performance of a B2B server. Symptoms The most common indicator of a B2B engine in need of a tuning is reflected in the constant build-up of messages in an internal JMS queue within the B2B server. It is called B2B_EVENT_QUEUE and can be monitored via the Weblogic server console. Whenever such a behaviour is seen, it usually results in general degradation of performance. Remedy There could be many contributing factors behind a B2B server's degradation of performance. However, one of the first places to tune the server from the out-of-the-box, default configuration is to change the number of internal engine threads allocated within the B2B server. Usually the default configuration for the B2B server engine threads is not suitable for high-volume of messaging loads. So, it is necessary to increase the counts for 3 types of such threads, by specifying the appropriate B2B server properties via the EM console, namely, Inbound - b2b.inboundThreadCount Outbound - b2b.outboundThreadCount Default - b2b.defaultThreadCount The function of these threads are fairly self-explanatory. In other words, the inbound threads process the inbound messages that are coming into the B2B server from an external endpoint. Similarly, the outbound threads processes the messages that are sent out from the B2B server. The default threads are responsible for certain B2B server-specific special tasks. In case the inbound and outbound thread counts are not specified, the default thread count also dictates the total number of inbound and outbound threads. As found in any tuning exercise, the optimisation of these threads is usually reached via an iterative process. The best working combination of the thread counts are directly related to the system infrastructure, traffic load and several other environmental factors.

• OSB 11g & SAP – Single Channel/Program ID for Multiple IDOCs

  Background This note is a supplement to the blog entry, SOA 11g & SAP – Single Channel/Program ID for Multiple IDOCs by Greg Mally. Greg has shown how a single SOA Suite composite can be used with iWay Adapters to receive multiple IDOC types via a single channel in the adapter, corresponding to a single programID on the SAP system. We will try to address the same requirements within the OSB framework here. Project Built - Design Time The basic build of an OSB project with iWay SAP Adapter, as seen in another entry in this blog, consists of working in OSB Design console and Application Explorer. OSB Design Time - Part 1 We will create a placeholder project first in OSB with a proper directory structure, so that we can export the WSDL, XSD and the JCA binding information from Application Explorer directly into this project. Application Explorer - iWay Design Time Tool Receiving IDOCs is classified as an inbound event within Application Explorer. For setting up events, a channel is first defined (e.g. iDoc_Channel) using the same PROGRAMID (RFC destination), as defined within SAP for the OSB server. Next, the same channel is used to export the JCA Inbound Event artifacts for the candidate IDOC, e.g. DEBMAS06 directly to the pre-created OSB project. Note that the validation for schema has been turned off. As a result, this will allow the adapter, at runtime, to use a single channel to receive multiple IDOC types from SAP and pass them on to the OSB runtime engine without any validation. In other words, we do not have to repeat the above step for each IDOC type. OSB Design Time - Part 2 Create 2 simple XML based Business Services to write to a file, e.g.  SAP_DEBMAS_File and SAP_MATMAS_File. Next, generate a Proxy Service using the JCA binding file exported from Application Explorer in the previous section. In the generated proxy service, edit the message flow and add a route node. Add a routing table in the route node with the following routing function. fn:local-name-from-QName(fn:node-name($body/*[1])) This function takes advantage of the fact that the XML payload at runtime, after translation by adapter, has the IDOC type as the top element. With the routing function in place, build the routing table to add 2 branches to route the IDOCs to the appropriate Business Service for writing the XML payload to files in separate directories. This completes the build of the OSB project. Testing - Run-Time After deployment and activation, the SAP adapter will wait to receive multiple types of IDOCs sent from the SAP system using a single channel. Upon receipt of the IDOCs, the OSB project will route them appropriately to save the corresponding XML payloads for different IDOC types in different directories.

  As i occasionally work on Oracle ADF, i've decided to write tips on this Framework. Previous version of adf (10g) had a <afh:body> component to represent the body of your page which allowed to specify javascript events like onload or onunload. In ADF RC, the body (as well as html and head) is geneated by a single <af:document>. To implement the onXXXXX events you embed an <af:clientListener> within this <af:document> and specify property type="load" with the method to trigger.   Problem is that onunload property is not supported by th af:clientListener. So how do i do ? Well, a solution is to add this event during page load.   First step : Embed in your <af:document> the following : <af:clientListener type="load" method="addOnUnload()"/>   Second step : Add your unload event using this kind of script : <af:document>     <f:facet name="metaContainer">     <f:verbatim>     <script type="text/javascript">                 function addOnUnload(evt) {                       window.onunload=function()                               {                                   alert('Goodbye Word');                              }                    }     </script>     </f:verbatim>   When closing browser your event will be triggered as expected.

• Running Built-In Test Simulator with SOA Suite Healthcare 11g in PS4 and PS5

  Background SOA Suite for Healthcare Integration pack comes with a pre-installed simulator that can be used as an external endpoint to generate inbound and outbound HL7 traffic on specified MLLP ports. This is a command-line utility that can be very handy when trying to build a complete end-to-end demo within a standalone, closed environment. The ant-based utility accepts the name of a configuration file as the command-line input argument. The format of this configuration file has changed between PS4 and PS5. In PS4, the configuration file was XML based and in PS5, it is name-value property based. The rest of this note highlights these differences and provides samples that can be used to run the first scenario from the product samples set. PS4 - Configuration File The sample configuration file for PS4 is shown below. The configuration file contains information about the following items: Directory for incoming and outgoing files for the host running SOA Suite Healthcare Polling Interval for the directory External Endpoint Logical Names External Endpoint Server Host Name and Ports Message throughput to be simulated for generating outbound messages Documents to be handled by different endpoints A copy of this file can be downloaded from here. PS5 - Configuration File The corresponding sample configuration file for PS5 is shown below. The configuration file contains similar information about the sample scenario but is not in XML format. It has name-value pairs specified in the form of a properties file. This sample file can be downloaded from here. Simulator Configuration Before running the simulator, the environment has to be set by defining the proper ANT_HOME and JAVA_HOME. The following extract is taken from a working sample shell script to set the environment: Also, as a part of setting the environment, template jndi.properties and logging.properties can be generated by using the following ant command: ant -f ant-b2bsimulator-util.xml b2bsimulator-prop Sample jndi.properties and logging.properties are shown below and can be modified, as needed. The jndi.properties contains information about connectivity to the local Weblogic Managed Server instance and the logging.properties file controls the amount of logging that can be generated from the running simulator process. Simulator Usage - Start and Stop The command syntax to launch the simulator via ant is the same in PS4 and PS5. Only the appropriate configuration file has to be supplied as the command-line argument, for example: ant -f ant-b2bsimulator-util.xml b2bsimulatorstart -Dargs="simulator1.hl7-config.xml" This will start the simulator and will keep running to provide an active external endpoint for SOA Healthcare Integration engine. To stop the simulator, a similar ant command can be used, for example: ant -f ant-b2bsimulator-util.xml b2bsimulatorstop

You buy technology solutions like Oracle Applications but you're a business person--trying to close the quarter, get performance reviews processed, negotiate a new sourcing contract, etc. When "standards" come up in presentations and discussions do you: - Nod your head politely - Tune out and check your smart phone - Turn to your IT counterpart and say "Bob's all over this standards thing, right Bob?" Here's why standards matter. My wife wants new external doors downstairs, ones that would get more light into the rooms. Am I OK with that? "Uhh, sure...it's a little dark in the kitchen." - 24 hours ago - wife calls to tell me that she's going to the hardware store and may look at doors - 20 hours ago - wife pulls into driveway, informs me that two doors are in the back of her station wagon, ready for me to carry - 19 hours ago - I re-discovered the fact that it's not fun to carry a solid wood door by myself - 5 hours ago - Local handyman, who was at our house anyway, tells me that the doors we bought will likely cost 2-3x the material cost in installation time and labor...the doors are standard but our doorways aren't We could have done more research. I could be more handy. Sure. But the fact is, my 1951 house wasn't built with me in mind. They built what worked and called it a day. The same holds true with a lot of business applications. They were designed and architected for one-time use with one use-case in mind. Today's business climate is different. If you're going to use your processes and technology to differentiate your business you should have at least a working knowledge of: - How standards can benefit your business - Your IT organization's philosophy around standards - Your vendor's track-record around standards...and watch for those who pay lip-service to standards but don't follow through The rallying cry in most IT organizations today is "learn more about the business, drop the acronyms." I'm not advocating that you go out and learn how to code in Java. But I do believe it will help your business and your decision-making process if you meet IT ½...even ¼ of the way there. Epilogue: The door project has been put on hold and yours truly has to return the doors to the hardware store tomorrow.

• Best Practices for High Volume CPA Import Operations with ebXML in B2B 11g

  Background B2B 11g supports ebXML messaging protocol, where multiple CPAs can be imported via command-line utilities.  This note highlights one aspect of the best practices for import of CPA, when large numbers of CPAs in the excess of several hundreds are required to be maintained within the B2B repository. Symptoms The import of CPA usually is a 2-step process, namely creating a soa.zip file using b2bcpaimport utility based on a CPA properties file and then using b2bimport to import the b2b repository.  The commands are provided below: ant -f ant-b2b-util.xml b2bcpaimport -Dpropfile="<Path to cpp_cpa.properties>" -Dstandard=true ant -f ant-b2b-util.xml b2bimport -Dlocalfile=true -Dexportfile="<Path to soa.zip>" -Doverwrite=true Usually the first command completes fairly quickly regardless of the number of CPAs in the repository. However, as the number of trading partners within the repository goes up, the time to complete the second command could go up to ~30 secs per operation. So, this could add up to a significant amount, if there is a need to import hundreds of CPA in a production system within a limited downtime, maintenance window.  Remedy In situations, where there is a large number of entries to be imported, it is best to setup a staging environment and go through the import operation of each individual CPA in an empty repository. Since, this will be done in an empty repository, the time taken for completion should be reasonable.  After all the partner profiles have been imported, a full repository export can be taken to capture the metadata for all the entries in one file.  If this single file with all the partner entries is imported in a loaded repository, the total time taken for import of all the CPAs should see a dramatic reduction. Results Let us take a look at the numbers to see the benefit of this approach. With a pre-loaded repository of ~400 partners, the individual import time for each entry takes ~30 secs. So, if we had to import another 100 partners, the individual entries will take ~50 minutes (100 times ~30 secs). On the other hand, if we prepare the repository export file of the same 100 partners from a staging environment earlier, the import takes about ~5 mins. The total processing time for the loading of metadata, specially in a production environment, can thus be shortened by almost a factor of 10.   Hi at all, I'm having a issue trying to get working a JPA nativeQuery. I'm having a org.hibernate.MappingException: No Dialect mapping for JDBC type: 2002 when a try to do a nativeQuery and get a geometry field type. I use oracle and org.hibernatespatial.oracle.OracleSpatial10gDialect.   A situation has arisen where I need to perform a base 36 to base 10 conversion, in the context of a SQL statement. There doesn't appear to be anything built into Oracle 9, or Oracle 10 to address this sort of thing. My Google-Fu, and AskTom suggest creating a pl/sql function to deal with the task. That is not an option for me at this point. I am looking for suggestions on an approach to take that might help me solve this issue. To put this into a visual form... • ORA-01019 error only as an administrator

  I'm having a strange problem. I've installed the Oracle 10g client on a terminal server running Windows Server 2008R2. When I try to connect to Oracle, using, say, Toad, I receive the error "ORA-01019 unable to allocate memory in the user side". But this only happens if I'm logged in as an administrator. If I connect as a normal user, I can connect without issue. Also -- if a normal user is connected, I can then connect without a problem as an administrator. Any thoughts?

  Is it possible to store the credentials that I use to connect to my Team Foundation Server directly in Visual Studio 2010? I would like to avoid to insert them at every VS launch. The problem is that the machine that host TFS is not in the domain and I am conneting using the credentials of a user created on that machine. Suppose that the machine name is TOOLS and the user is Marco, I need to insert every time User name: TOOLS\Marco Password: * Can you suggest a possible fix, if exists?

We are going to use .NET 3.5, and I wish to known if there are any know bugs or perfomance issues that could give weird behaviour for my project? I'm reading some things about EFv4 and all they say is that EFv3.5 have too many problems. After all, what's the best and fastest way, ADO.NET Entities or extract the data from my DB directly to a DataReader? The EF Oracle provider is stable? The project will be .NET 3.5 and Oracle.

• How to avoid this very heavy query that slows down the application?

  Hi, We have a web application running in a production enviroment and at some point the client complained about how slow the application got. When we checked what was going on with the application and the database we discover this "precious" query that was being executed by several users at the same time (thus inflicting an extremely high load on the database server): SELECT NULL AS table_cat, o.owner AS table_schem, o.object_name AS table_name, o.object_type AS table_type, NULL AS remarks FROM all_objects o WHERE o.owner LIKE :1 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_0" AND o.object_name LIKE :2 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_1" AND o.object_type IN(:"SYS_B_2", :"SYS_B_3") ORDER BY table_type, table_schem, table_name Our application does not execute this query, I believe it is an Hibernate internal query. I've found little information on why Hibernate does this extremely heavy query, so any help in how to avoid it very much appreciated! The production enviroment information: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 (Tikanga), JDK 1.5, web container OC4J (whitin Oracle Application Server), Oracle Database 10.1.0.4, JDBC Driver for JDK 1.2 and 1.3, Hibernate version 3.2.6.ga, connection pool library C3P0 version 0.9.1.   I have a j2ee application hosted on jboss and linux platform. When I try to access the application , I see following error in server.log file. • Database server: Small quick RAM or large slow RAM?

  We are currently designing our new database servers, and have come up with a trade off I'm not entirely sure of how to answer. These are our options: 48GB 1333MHz, or 96GB 1066MHz. My thinking is that RAM should be plentiful for a Database Server (we have plenty and plenty of data, and some very large queries) rather than as quick as it could be. Apparently we can't get 16GB chips at 1333MHz, hence the choices above. So, should we get lots of slower RAM, or less faster RAM? Extra Info: Number of DIMM Slots Available: 6 Servers: Dell Blades CPU: 6 core (only single socket due to Oracle licensing).
